[Bug 45786] Re: Problem with sound

2008-02-23 Thread Marios Papamichael
Hi i have installed Ubuntu yesterday and i have problems with my sound.
I wrote this command sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and the bottom line
is options snd-cmipci mpu_port=0x330 fm_port=0x388. I have an intel sound
card so i think i have to add this line in options snd-intel8x0 ac97_quirk=3.
Everytime i add this line then i cant save the changes. I typed sudo
update-modules
in another terminal to update the alsa-base but still it says modified.
What do i have to do about that? Thnx!

It doesn't the solve the problem where you delete files off a storage

[Bug 26394] Re: Web browser button on top panel should open preferred application, rather than firefox/evolution

2008-02-23 Thread InsClusoe
Hi,

I would like to take up this task. But I wonder what the bug is or if it
does not exist anymore.

The top panel icon is a Firefox launcher only. In the current default
setup of gnome, the browser_launcher and email_launcher are empty. But
if I set preferred browser to Epiphany and click on a link in GAIM, it
is opened using Epiphany.

So, I don't know what needs fixing. Please correct me if I am wrong. I
am new to all this.

Thanks.

For the MOTU Maintainers,

This may be fixed in a newer version of Unison. Apparently, the version
available through the universe servers has not been updated since Dapper
(most recent is 2.13.16-6ubuntu1). According to the manual
http://www.cis.upenn.edu/~bcpierce/unison/download/releases/stable
/unison-manual.html the most recent version is 2.27.57. I would love to
see this update available on the universe servers at least for the hardy
release.

Best,

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 16722 ***

Hmm. Resurrecting this bug, sorry ;)

CD Reading OK, can't verify CD writing (no CD-Rs or CD-RWs here!).
But the DVD's (DVD, DVD+RW) just won't mount.
Everything worked fine yesterday. I've listened to two DVDs. I've listened to a
CD. I've put back one of the two DVDs in the drive: nothing.
I've tried another DVD and nothing too. The DVDs were not mounting. Rebooting
haven't solved anything, ubuntu is still acting like there's *no* DVD in the
drive.

The sudo mount command in the terminal just freezes. sudo eject too.
So, briefly: Ubuntu just ate my Rammstein DVD.

I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) on a P3 866.
My CD/DVD drive is a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4160B

~$ uname -a
Linux A99-LeDechaine 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 23:05:12 GMT 2007 i686
GNU/Linux

The DVD drive worked flawlessly under windows for 3-4 years (or even more).
The DVD disk is a brand new DVD I bought 3-4 days ago.
So I guess the problem is in Ubuntu.

[Bug 108527] Re: X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards

2008-02-23 Thread luis
I was actually going to open a new bug report, but even though I can't possibly
be certain it's the same bug, it's darn nearly the same. So, I got a radeon
X800 card, with the open source driver, when I enable compiz it freezes
randomly after about one hour, mouse moves but X is in deep freeze otherwise, I
have to reboot, I can't kill X. I did follow the instructions on how debug the
crash, that is, I installed the debug package for everything related with xorg,
restarted the system and attached to Xorg using a laptop (via a serial cable,
actually). After about 8 hours, with compiz enabled, while moving a window, the
screen froze. Gotcha! I thought. Went to the laptop, and gdb had stopped
because it caught a signal (broken pipe). Got the backtrace anyway and typed
cont, and X continued fine, with the window missing, but otherwise functional.
Actually I'm typing in that same session. Did installing the debug packages
somehow helped, or unning under gdb make the signal handler behave differently?
I meant, but didn't, add the NoTrapSignals option.
Mind you that I couldn't find xserver-xorg-core-dbgsym, apt-get install failed
with:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  xserver-xorg-core-dbgsym: Depends: xserver-xorg-core (=
2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8) but 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8.3 is to be installed
So it was trying to install the debug symbols for an earlier version. I noticed
that most packages had a -dbg sibling, and that's what I installed.

I'm attaching the backtrace, but as I'm not sure it's the same problem
since the system now seems much more stable. Are the -dbg packages and
-dbgsym packages equivalent, or is the code in the -dbg packages
actually changed from the released code? It seems that, really, a
watched pot never boils.

[Bug 82594] Re: Akregrator starts automatically in Feisty

OK, if I have the icon showing set in my configs, then yes, I can
confirm the icon shows up after logging back in. However, setting it to
not check doesn't fire akregator for me, it will not check until I click
on one of the buttons. I even ran ps and top to see if it started up and
it didn't, not until I clicked the download button did I briefly see
akregator fire in both top and with a quick ps. Need to locate an
upstream report and hope this gets fixed for KDE 4.1 as they stopped all
work on the KDE 3 branch of Akregator unless of course it is a CRASH
bug.
