[Bug 38512] Re: Window close should close, not quit

2008-03-01 Thread Simone Tolotti
I'm impressed by the blindness of rhythmbox developers.
It's about 1 year that it's been discussed.
Don't you think that this worth an option to choose if you want to close or
minimize to tray, when you click window's close button?
I think this should be true for every app that has a reason to live in the
background.
In the meantime I've now learned to click on the tray icon to minimize
rhythmbox...

[Bug 197410] Re: Paste data from Firefox don't work after you close Firefox

2008-03-01 Thread kripkenstein
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 11334 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/11334

Hi Fred,

I feel your pain regarding this bug, it is indeed annoying. Hopefully
something will be done about it, but as you mention in your comments in
the main bug, it has been a long time and sadly this seems a low
priority for upstream devs.

Let me just say, as constructive criticism, that while I personally
understand where you are coming from, other people might be offended by
your tone ("Fix this", etc.). We all get seriously annoyed by bugs
sometimes, but venting our anger at each other generally doesn't help.

Note that this is a general bug, not just firefox related. That's why I
marked it a duplicate of the main bug.

[Bug 26198] Re: Nautilus Thumbnail creation freeze system

2008-03-01 Thread Clovis Peruchi Scotti

Ok, it got better but the "bug" is still there.

A few moments ago I started to download (using btdownloadcurses) a video (.avi)
to Desktop..
Nautilus started to use 100% of my CPU undefinetely.. no response for
anything.. needed to disable ALL thumbnail generation (since i didn't found,
after searching kinda hard, the option to disable just video thumbnails) and
then KILL nautilus.. after the kill it just reloaded nicely and everything.

The real "bug" I see here is that nautilus entered a infinite (BUSY) loop
trying to find a thumbnail for a .avi file that didn't had nothing more than a
fez Ks.
Of course there were no "possible" thumbnails to be found but it kept
searching.. and searchin..

At first I tought I should wait for the download to end (10 hours) to see it
nautilus could finally find its thumbnail..
I quickly abandoned that idea..

So, ain't it possible to detect that the video (or image) doesn't provide a
thumbnail. and then GIVE UP!

[Bug 134061] Re: brasero hangs on calculating size when burning audio

2008-03-01 Thread Saïvann Carignan
Barry de Graaff : Thanks for these detailed informations. From what you
say, you don't seem to describe the same symptoms as the initial bug
report. Does brasero crash during the burning process or during the
importation of files? Since brasero crash with a segmentation fault, I
think that you should open another bug report describing that issue with
a lot of details including exactly what you did to reproduce the bug. I
may also follows directions here to create a backtrace and a valgrind
which will greatly help developers to fix the issue :
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash

Concerning this bug report, can you try with just 4-10 mp3 files to see
if the initial bug can be reproduced? The initial bug was brasero that
waited infinitively during the burning process when the fluendo codec is
installed. Thanks for the time you take to improve brasero and ubuntu!

[Bug 196790] Re: User Interface Preferences do not change gadgets much

2008-03-01 Thread Mario Limonciello
In tracking down where this came from, it's a remenant of when we did
openbox. Thank goodness those days are over. You won't see it fixed
until the release after alpha3 (those disks were mastered with the
problem in them). If anyone else comes across this bug, just nuke
~/.gtkrc-2.0 or /root/.gtkrc-2.0 and you will be able to modify themes
as expected.

[Bug 197201] Workaround

2008-03-01 Thread TheGZeus
Install language-selector, run:
$ sudo gnome-language-selector
select english as the system language, apply, restart
run System Settings again, select english, apply

I still have several applications in japanese, though I've gone the extra step
of uninstalling japanese language packs(don't want to take the risk...)
I hope a reset later solves that.

Re: [Bug 197522] Re: desktop-7.10-amd64 Hangs on CD boot

2008-03-01 Thread jbrad4
I went into the PhoenixBIOS and there is nowhere to turn off
the Bluetooth on any of the 5 BIOS screens.

I hit F1 right after the Ubuntu logo came up with no change.

The last two lines on the screen are:

* Starting DHCP D-Bus daemon dhcdbd [OK]
* Starting Bluetooth services

The cursor just blinks on the right end of the Bluetooth line.
I thought maybe it would time out, but after ten minutes I
did a ctrl-alt-delete to shut it down.

I have have Fedora 9 Alpha running on the machine.
It goes right past Starting Bluetooth while booting.
Fedora 9 is using the latest 2.26 kernel. Maybe the
problem is with the older kernel used by Ubuntu.
The new release of Ubuntu in April may fix the problem.

Thanks for your bug submission. One thing to try: Go into BIOS and
turn off bluetooth. Then try the Live CD. Also, hit F1 once the Ubuntu
graphical logo comes up. Watch the text scroll by and post those
bluetooth messages.

[Bug 197545] [NEW] colorfilter missing colorblind simulations

2008-03-01 Thread Justin Dugger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz-fusion-plugins-main

Colorfilter is missing several of the filters from compiz git from
before hardy was branched. In particular, protanopia and deuteranopia
provide filters to provide normal sighted people insights to how a
colorblind person might percieve the screen. In other words, these
filters can help everyone test interfaces for colorblind suitability.
I've tested these filters and neither of them appear to affect compiz
stability.

[Bug 197543] [NEW] Rhythmbox closes randomly with no error.

2008-03-01 Thread nathan42100
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Not sure if this is because of a corrupted file or what (which I don't
think so, I just tried to reproduce with the same file), but it just
randomly closes with no error (except for the terminal output below when
run through a terminal) on Ubuntu 7.10. No error on re-running from
console, only on crash. A second time crash I got the terminal output
below (separated by the ~'s)

And when I try to play any audio file, the terminal says: sh: jackd: not
found

*** glibc detected *** rhythmbox: corrupted double-linked list: 0x08841ac0 ***

[Bug 72341] Re: [network-admin] setting domain name changes localhost alias only for the first time

2008-03-01 Thread Unifier
Shawn, could you walk me through your modifications? Is that what your
dhclient.conf file actually looks like or are the pluses and minuses
supposed to represent additions or removals from the file? Here's what
mine looks like (it should also be worth mentioning that I can't trigger
my bug with sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart, only with an actual
reboot):

# and a more comprehensive list of the parameters understood by
# dhclient.

# not leave anything out (like the domain name, for example), then
# few changes must be made to this file, if any.

[Bug 197404] Re: Kubuntu-kde4 application integration

2008-03-01 Thread The Blotch
Cool, I'm glad you guys agree with me. Yeah, Gimp is working fine (it's
just like any other GTK app, so I'm not sure why it wouldn't work for
you). I attached a screenshot of me with an image open in Gimp for you
to see (just so you know, the scrollbars and generic backgrounds for
things like the Firefox Google search bar and file managers are a little
messed up right now (the scrollbars look different and the backgrounds
are grey instead of white) (probably because of something I did), but
it's not a problem with Gimp, it's in all my GTK apps (under normal
conditions Gimp looks normal)).

As a side note, I figured out a fix to my problem of not being able to run any
KDE4 apps as root: 'sudo ln -s /usr/lib/kde4/bin/* /usr/bin/', but then I guess
you'd have to do that every time you install a KDE4 app you plan on running as
root.
I guess /usr/lib/kde4/bin/ isn't in $PATH for root or something like that.
Anyways, I'll post a bug report of this if it hasn't already been reported to
bring more attention to the problem (maybe either everything could be placed in
/usr/bin and then that folder could be linked to /usr/lib/kde4/bin/ if
necessary, the packages themselves could link from /usr/lib/kde4/bin/ to
/usr/bin as part of the install script, or /usr/lib/kde4/bin/ could be added to
root's $PATH (if that's even the problem)).

[Bug 197542] [NEW] [hardy] dell d410 Volume keys not working

2008-03-01 Thread naught101
Public bug reported:

Volume keys are not working for me in hardy, on my dell d410 laptop.
neither the vol up/down/mute buttons, nor Fn+pgup/pgdn/end work.
Fn+up/down adjusts screen brightness correctly.

Xev reports no symbol. I've tried "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" twice,
no joy. worked fine in gutsy.

I am running kubuntu hardy, latest update 2008-02-02.

[Bug 197537] Re: Can't read PDF file with Japanese text

2008-03-01 Thread shanen (Shannon Jacobs)
Not sure what this test file is supposed to look like... There is some
Japanese that does appear when look at the file, but other parts are
almost surely garbled and missing text. I'll try to test both of them on
another machine later, but it will probably take me a couple of days.
This Sharp is kind of iffy on Ubuntu anyway. (I'm even afraid to note
that I note that I haven't seen the white screen of death for several
days for fear of invoking another one...)

[Bug 188540] Re: firefox-3.0 crashed with SIGSEGV in g_slice_alloc()

2008-03-01 Thread RedHeron
Hardy Heron 8.04 development branch on an AMD64 here... and what I did
was to update a theme for the browser at the same time I was updating my
window preferences under xfce. From the other comments here, I'd guess
it was the crappy nVidia drivers doing it (if only they'd release a
standard!).

[Bug 197496] Re: Moving item to trash opens home folder

I also am experiencing this bug on Hardy Alpha 5.
Running dmesg confirms that nautilus is crashing with a segfault.
Additionally, the segfault entry is preceded by the following line:
"VMBlock warning: DentryOpRevalidate: invalid args from kernel"

[Bug 195658] Re: Status icon shows AC power and full battery when logging in while on battery power

2008-03-01 Thread Felix Kuehling
I just dist-upgraded to version 2.21.92-0ubuntu1. Now the symptoms are
different. In a way it's misbehaving more consistently, because
unplugging and replugging the AC power doesn't change the situation.

When the AC is plugged in it shows the battery icon without a power cord
and the tooltip says

Computer is running on AC power
Laptop batteries discharging (xx%)
Battery discharge time is currently unknown

However, the charge percentage is going up as expected with the power is
plugged in.

Unplugging the power and plugging it back in doesn't make a difference.

I guess this bug report can be closed and I'll check if this new problem
is described in another report. If not, I'll open a new bug.

[Bug 195768] Re: Bad battery runtime in Ubuntu

2008-03-01 Thread Andrew Fenn
It's important to note that if you have two laptops, one running XP, one
running Ubuntu and you let them run down doing nothing. Although the XP
laptop will report a longer battery time, it in fact runs down at the
same time as the Ubuntu laptop.

I have noticed the times get closer and closer together as the time runs
out, until both had the same time.

Please test this out using a stopwatch as this is what has happened in
my tests, on different laptops.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please attach your X server configuration file
(/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the
bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the
"Attachment:" box below. Could you please also try to run without any
/etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg autodetect your display and video card?
Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt. Thanks in
advance.

[Bug 197537] Re: Can't read PDF file with Japanese text

2008-03-01 Thread Emmet Hikory
I believe the display of Japanese PDF by evince is now working in hardy,
as long as multiverse poppler-data package is installed. Could you
please check to see if
http://tokyodebian.alioth.debian.org/pdf/debianmeetingresume200803.pdf
causes the same display issues as the PDF from your bank?

If the behaviour is the same, please test the bank PDF against a Hardy
Alpha liveCD, after installing the poppler-data package from multiverse
to see if this bug may be closed.
