[Bug 90434] Re: please enable dontzap by default
Perhaps... but I don't think there is an easy solution to this that will make everyone satisfied. I could imagine those who support keeping the shortcut would dislike it no longer working immediately, whereas people who don't want to have X exit from inadvertent keystrokes may prefer to see the function disabled entirely, not just delayed. (But I could be wrong.) I suspect the best solution will be involve including a gui checkbox control someplace, and a script to turn it on/off in xorg.conf, perhaps a Hardy+1/+2 sort of thing. But lets see what ideas develop consensus in the specification first. -- please enable dontzap by default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/90434 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 199030] Re: Can't close SCIM
This bug has been resolved in the latest scim, scim-bridge and language-selector packages. Also, the current daily live CD image is fine. This bug only affects those folks who are using Hardy for a longer time already and updated frequently. The proper way to disable scim is: 1. System -> Administration -> Language Support 2. uncheck the 'Enable support to enter complex characters' checkbox 3. restart your X session by logout/re-login or if this doesn't do the trick, reboot. If this still does not do the trick, the following will definitely do: Open a terminal window and type: sudo im-switch -z all_ALL -s none After that, restart your X session. Explanation: scim is running as daemon under the control of im-switch. To allow scim to grab the keyboard input, a bunch of environment variables need to be set within the X session. Toggeling the checkbox in Language Support will set/unset those variables. To get the changes into effect, a restart of the running X session is required. Background: For scim to work correctly in Ubuntu, the combination of im-switch, scim and language-selector is required, as well as several optional scim-modules for the actual input methods. Before Hardy, the im-switch package was not seeded into the default desktop (and therefor into the live CD), which made it impossible to get scim working on the live CD without installing the language support packages for one of the CJK languages. As scim is also used by many other non-CJK users who don't have appropriate keyboard layouts available for their desired languages, we decided to seed im-switch, so that it can be used on the Live CD as well. Some time in the past (during the Hardy development cycle), the function in Language Support to set/unset he environment variables, stopped working correctly and the environment variables got enabled by default for everyone. With the seeding of im-switch, this led to the behaviour which you experienced, but which was not intentional. As we cannot detect who intentionally enabled scim support in their non-CJK locales and who didn't, we cannot solve this by script and manual interaction is required to disable scim support for those who don't want it. And a comment to the 'Close' function in the scim gtk frontend: This one only works when scim is started as a foreground process, but has no effect when scim is running in daemon mode. And one more comment: As this is a development version, such breakage may occur. For those of you who need a stable and reliable system, please use the current stable release. ** Changed in: scim (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Fix Released -- Can't close SCIM https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199030 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 200875] [NEW] firefox 3 + compiz window decoration oddities
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz I'm not sure if this is a Firefox 3 or compiz issue so I won't set the package just yet. As I move to different pages in Firefox 3 on the latest up to date Hardy (as of March 11 at 2:29 AM EST), the top title bar/window decoration does a few weird things from time to time. A gray stripe will sometimes blank out the top of the window decoration, with the lower half acting normally, and sometimes the entire top window decoration turns gray as if the window lost focus, but the title bar text is also gone. This seems to be compiz related but I'm not positive. Other applications don't seem to be having the issue, so it may also have some Firefox 3 roots. I'm not positive but this looks like it might only happen while in full screen. Also of important note is that I'm using twinview on a nvidia 6600 with moderate desktop effects enabled via the Appearance tab. [Bug 200873] [NEW] firefox 3.0 png rendering on localhost vs. server
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 PNG rendering is inconsistent on localhost vs. live server. With the attached png for instance, I can see it as it should be on the localhost just fine at 77x77px, but when I upload to a server, the png renders differently, as if scaled by 8px, 4 on each side - resulting in an image of size 85x85px. I've used other browsers (IceWeasel) and confirmed this is not a server problem on my side, but a Firefox specific bug.. [Bug 200874] [NEW] Sound Card disabled in BIOS being used
Public bug reported: I have disabled my on-board VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 60) on my KT600 motherboard, yet it's still showing up on lspci and is selected as the default device despite my PCI C-Media CM8738 being the one I need to use. Windows does not pick up on the sound device when I disable it via the BIOS, Linux really shouldn't either. This might be an upstream problem, but this is a very potentially confusing issue for those with a disabled sound card. I had to fix this by manually setting sound card indexes in a configuration file on Gutsy, but that's not something a typical user should have to do, as it's counter to bug #1. [Bug 200872] [NEW] gnome-screenshot has no lower panel or alt+tab entry
Public bug reported: The Gnome "Screenshot" application, gnome-screenshot, doesn't show an entry in the lower task bar and isn't reachable via ALT+TAB. While this may be done in some way to prevent the entry from being shown in screenshots, it does introduce a usability problem. If I open the screenshot app, switch back to my full-screen app to make an adjustment, and want to get back to gnome-screenshot, there is no way to do so without moving windows. Some users may open up another instance of gnome-screenshot, which isn't ideal. This is more of a usability issue than anything. That would mean make sure it is not defined in /etc/hosts, and that your DNS server has no reverse resolution for 192.168.1.16. I would suggest getting rid of any forward resolution if you want to be extra sure. Make sure there are no caching DNS data tables laying about on the client machine. Basically you want this command % host 192.168.1.16 to return Host 16.1.186.192.in-addr.arpa not found: 3(NXDOMAIN) on the client machine. restart cupsys on the client machine. [Bug 145887] Re: Gutsy Beta: Tablet Notebook's Stylus Not Working
Upstream's input-hotplug+HAL was not stable enough for Hardy so we've postponed the work until Hardy+1. Additionally, I'm not certain the wacom driver was updated to take advantage of input hotplug anyway. Anyway, this bug cannot be solved for hardy, so we need to postpone it. If wacom input-hotplug is still not ready in hardy+1, an alternative would be to create an xorg.conf modification utility (similar to displayconfig-gtk but for general changes including input devices). [Bug 153118] Re: Feature request: zoom picture to fit screen
Can I confirm that you still would like to see this improvement? If so, does the following summarise your idea? In Preferences -> Viewer tab ; Then in section: "After loading an Image" -> would like the additional option "Fit to Window if Larger or Smaller". Now, as you would be aware if the image is substantially smaller this would produce a pixilated result. The first thing a developer will ask is why would someone want this? We need to be able to provide a good argument if we want to encourage action on this. [Bug 200867] [NEW] After Hardy Alpha5 upgrade lvm partitions fail to mount
Public bug reported: I have now seen this bug on 3 different computers. After the upgrade to alpha5, the system reboots and checks each filesystem. The system then stops and drops the user into maintenance mode to fix a file system that could not be checked. In my case the filesystem is /opt and hardly crucial. A college of mine had this happen to his /opt and /home filesystems. Common in each case i've seen is LVM and reiserfs. Below is the dmesg output when trying to mount the /opt filesystem manually. To fix the problem, I have tried to reformat that partition with reiserfs - but on a reboot, it is broken again. To solve the problem permanently on one laptop, i formatted the partition with ext3 and haven't seen the problem since. [Bug 200857] Re: I was having issues updating
Thank you for filing the bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. As far as I can see from the apt outputs you have pasted, you seem to miss out the sudo part a lot of times when issuing the command. For using apt-get or dpkg you always need to issue with sudo preceding it. At the same time, you need not become root to do it, 'sudo' is available for you to get super user permissions to do certain tasks. Also, you have to make sure another service is not trying to do the same thing, like synaptic or aptitude running when you are trying to issue apt-get command. Regarding bug #158099, which you have mentioned, it is already marked to have been fixed in Hardy (Ubuntu 8.04) which is now in alpha 6 and soon to be released as LTS. Hence, it is closed as invalid. Even if this bug is a duplicate of bug #158099, then it is also invalid. Considering both the cases, this bug is marked as invalid but feel free to open it again if you have more information to provide or confirm this bug. Also, when providing output from any process or crash provide them as individual attachments to the bug report rather than pasting them as text into the bug report.
