2008-04-04 Thread jadipietro
Final Report from the Buggee (Bug 211174)

After this morning's Ubuntu/Adobe update, Firefox
video and sound is working well. Also, for the first
time the System-Preferences-Sound tests work on this
PC (Dell Dim 4650). Once I installed the Pulseaudio
driver, Firefox used either Gnash or Flash with no
problem. Opera (9.50 Beta 1,Build 1643) also worked,
It is using the gxine 0.5.901, etc for streamed film
and the Mozilla Flash plug-in for flash video clip.
Opera does not seem to detect Mozilla Gnash plug-in.

I inspected the file oslib.py and it seems the problem arises because the

Any suggestion?

[Bug 211627] Re: nautilus constantly crashing and using 100% resources

2008-04-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

2008-04-04 Thread Rudd-O
Guys, the latest iproute2 package (which I compiled from source by hand,
by the way) fixes this issue. However, the wondershaper burst sizes
need to grow (in my case, I had to set burst to 15k in the ingress
policer rule) otherwise the shaping goes bonkers.

Please upgrade to the latest release candidate for iproute2 ASAP.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Hardy Heron. It would help us greatly if you could
test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of
Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at

2008-04-04 Thread frog_pilot
Problem remains with new kernel 2.6.24-14-powerpc-smp

** Description changed:

1.) Hardy Heron powerpc latest build
- 2.) maybe yaboot or xserver or gdm (if this is started in single-user mode)
-
- 4.) When I type Linux single on yaboot stage 2 bootprompt, the system
- should boot in single-user mode (without gui) until the command prompt
- appears.
+ 2.) maybe kernel (2.6.24-14-powerpc-smp)
+ 4.) When I type Linux single on yaboot stage 2 bootprompt, the system
should boot in single-user mode (without gui) until the command prompt appears.

5.) After typing in Linux single the system boots as usual until it
comes to the (usplash?) progress-bar when it should switch to the
command line, there appear some colored spaces in typical colors of a
command-line-gui as you know from midnight commander or partimage (blue
background, red foreground, white as a selected lines) but there ar eno
letters and no prompt or anything else to figure out what the matter is.

How to trigger the bug:
1. Import a folder containing audio-files on another computer using sftp. Path
example: sftp://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/home/user/mymusic.
2. Start to play an audio-file from this folder and pause it during playback.
3. Leave it on pause for a while. 1-2 hours should be suficcient.

[Bug 104512] Re: [Package Request] sun-java6-plugin on AMD64?

2008-04-04 Thread Evgeny Kuznetsov
It was somehow possible to install Sun Java browser plugin onto 7.10
without tinkering with chroot'ed environment (I know the plugin was
actually 32-bit, but it was easily accessible on 64-bit systems). Is it
entirely impossible to provide a similar solution for Hardy?

I have the same problem. It works for current logged user but not for

command line or from kde menu (e.g synaptic) does not matter.

Hi Stephan,

I just now tried by first removing the packages and then reinstalling
hplip and hplip-gui. But the dependency is still not resolved.

I'll give it another try in about an hour or two to see if maybe mirror I'm
using doesn't have all packages available yet, and I'll let you know how it
went.
Thanks for the speedy reply and action, very nice to see such responsive

[Bug 211762] [NEW] System RAM not properly recognised

2008-04-04 Thread Henri Cook
Public bug reported:

Hi all, I have a quad core xeon with 8GB of RAM running the latest hardy

My `free -m` output:

Mem: 6003407 5595 0 34159
-/+ buffers/cache:214 5788

Only 6GB, although strangely in 'xentop':

Mem: 8322620k total, 8318588k used, 4032k freeCPUs: 4 @ 2126MHz

Something seems wrong.

[Bug 204676] Re: fb_lock_mgr crashed with SIGSEGV in __libc_start_main()

2008-04-04 Thread Alex Peshkoff
Lock manager process tries to exit, which should not happen on FB 2.0, except
when using gds_drop.
In theory this may happen due to setting lock manager exit flag in shared
memory (normally done by gds_drop), but to test for it, I need a reproducible
test case.

[Bug 195009] Re: [Hardy] synaptic touchpad not detected

2008-04-04 Thread Ed S.
I'm afraid I've tried all of theses suggestions, with no results. Put
in the psmouse.proto=imps as a boot-time edit on the grub selection
menu, and it was echoed properly, but didn't work. The rmmod/modprobe
of psmouse was confirmed (both ways - in/out) with an lsmod | grep mouse
with no results. This was done from a terminal window in Xwin (no
restart) -- was that correct? I've read and worked through the trouble-
shooting.txt file days ago (no joy). I was hoping for a much more
detailed document. Perhaps the kernel is still changing too rapidly to
make that type of documentation effort effective. I could send you more
hard technical info, but I suspect that you've just seen it all before
and your time is probably better spent swatting this deep in the code.
I'm afraid I'm too new at this to be competent at that level.

Please upgrade to the latest release candidate for iproute2 ASAP.

[Bug 196778] Re: Provide likewise-open-gui and likewise-open binaries rather than domainjoin-gui and domainjoin-cli

2008-04-04 Thread Emilio Pozuelo Monfort
Hi Nicolas,

Two comments for your debdiff:
- You have totally broken the clean target. The clean target in your debdiff
does nothing. You don't need to comment this things:
# dh_testdir
# dh_testroot
# rm -f build-stamp configure-stamp
# $(MAKE) clean
# dh_clean

- I think adding another .desktop file only for KDE is suboptimal...
Another way would be to patch the desktop file to use su-to-root.
Although that would add a dependency on menu, so let's leave your
change, which is good too. I hope we have a su-to-root freedesktop
wrapper provided in xdg-utils.

[Bug 83553] Re: redundant updating of packages

2008-04-04 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
Yes, of a sort. I still get lots of KDE packages updated only because of
small changes in one component, although this is mitigated somewhat by
my removing most of KDE by hand.

If I understand the updating process correctly, this is caused by the
fact that KDE comes in a big fat source package, and a single update
requires re-compiling everything else. So it's not something that can be
solved at update (aptitude) level. AFAIK the only fix would be splitting
the big KDE source package in several smaller source packages, a bit
like gnome does. I'm not sure how realistic that is.
