Same problem with Hauppauge HVR-1100 (also saa7134).

[Bug 212526] [NEW] monitor/video garbage (out of sync) even in a console (ALT+F2)

2008-04-05 Thread kimus
Public bug reported:

Sometime I just see garbage on my monitor (maybe a out of sync) even when I go
to a console (ALT+F2) the monitor doesn't display correctly.
Work around is to suspend my laptop and wake it up. After going back up all
it's fine again!?

This problem happens sometimes and in a random way :-S didn't found any
way to reproduce the problem.

I've got a Dell Precision M90 Laptop with the latest BIOS and it has a
NVidia video adapter.

I'm almost sure I had the same problem in Gutsy one or two weeks before
I upgraded to Hardy. Maybe it's a problem with the latest nvidia
drivers.

Please help me where to get some information on troubleshoot (i.e: logs)
this problem.

[Bug 212521] [NEW] [hardy] installation fails even if openjdk-6-jdk is installed

2008-04-05 Thread jablko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomcat5.5

I just installed tomcat5.5 from Hardy. It installed openjdk-6-jre, so
the init script failed at line 48 because openjdk-6-jre does not include
bin/jdb

As bug #179447 explains, bin/jdb is part of a -jdk vs. a -jre package,
and tomcat5.5's dependencies should ensure one is installed. It seems to
me this could be achieved by depending on "java2-sdk" instead of
"java2-runtime". I added this comment to Debian bug #458412, however I
admittedly know little about the Java packaging policy...

In the meantime, I installed openjdk-6-jdk, but the tomcat5.5 init
script still fails because line 40 does not include
"/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk":

[/etc/init.d/tomcat5.5 line 40]
JDK_DIRS="/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun
/usr/lib/j2sdk1.5-sun /usr/lib/j2sdk1.5-ibm /usr/lib/j2sdk1.4-sun
/usr/lib/j2sdk1.4-blackdown /usr/lib/j2se/1.4 /usr/lib/j2sdk1.4-ibm
/usr/lib/j2sdk1.3-sun /usr/lib/j2sdk1.3-blackdown /usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj
/usr/lib/kaffe"

# Look for the right JVM to use
for jdir in $JDK_DIRS; do
[...]

Perhaps a more maintainable way to find the right JVM would be to:

for jdir in /usr/lib/jvm/*; do
[...]

- or perhaps JAVA_HOME=/usr would work, since /usr contains bin/java and
bin/jdb. This would keep the default JAVA_HOME consistent with
/etc/alternatives

Again, I confess to knowing little about the Java packaging policy.

Thanks for maintaining Tomcat, Jack

[Bug 212308] Re: Freeze after flipping display 180deg (8.04b)

2008-04-05 Thread eoin09
Now that things are working again, here are more details.
After logging in in GNOME Safe mode, then back out and in via usual login, the
system ran fine with the display no longer inverted. However oddly the top and
bottom desktop panels had switched places of their own accord (all had been
right in safe mode). They would not change back, until I checked "expand" in
properties once more. I then moved them and unchecked expand when I had
everything where I wanted. The panels still will not move around with expand
unchecked.
As a result of my experiences so far there would appear to be an issue with
both inverting the display, and a minor one regarding panel movement. The
latter could be a system wide issue but the former is clearly purely to do with
user settings as the login screen at all times was not inverted, only after
login. Upon reflection, whilst that itself is not a bug, is a redesign an idea?
If someone did have a setup requiring inversion I doubt they would want to have
to login upside down every time, which is what would happen right now even with
no bugs present.
I have been running the system in its default configuration always up to date,
edits have only been visual via menus. If you would like any more information
just comment below and I'll gladly fill any gaps.

[Bug 212514] [NEW] [hardy] backlight turns off when charging

2008-04-05 Thread BC7333
Public bug reported:

Fairly often, usually when posting to forum posts, (typing), the
backlight will turn off, the caps light will turn on and I have to do a
hard shutdown and restart.

Ctrl Alt backspace has no affect.

Only happens when my laptop (Flybook V5) is charging.

When this happens, restart leaving the power cord plugged in will not be
successful.

Have to disconnect power and then restart.

the setting it's not applied; Also network profiles still suck (as in
they do not work at all at remembering combinations of wired/wireless

[Bug 207184] Re: compiz: artifacts when transforming videos

2008-04-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
Okay thanks, that pinpoints what patch caused the problem, to the
overlay patch. Unfortunately, that one is necessary to avoid some even
worse bugs on some people's hardware, so we cannot easily drop it.
Maybe in the future we'll have some better solutions, but meanwhile I
hope the workarounds (no-xv, TexturedVideo, etc.) give you some
alternative options.

The good news is that there is a *lot* of work going on upstream in this
area, and I expect once Intrepid opens and we can pull in the newest X
stuff in a couple months we'll have some new approaches to solving this.
For now, I'll move this over to a wishlist since I think there isn't
much we can do (other than forcing one of the workarounds - which as you
noted are not that great either.)

[Bug 177895] Re: Kernel 2.6.24-2 causing ~1000 wakeups by "Rescheduling Interrupts"

2008-04-05 Thread Barteq
@Colin King

It isn't made by any kind of software.. It's a pure kernel/hardware issue..
Please look here http://www.bughost.org/pipermail/power/2008-March/001327.html
I've subbmited this problem on powertop mailing list, but there are no
conclusions.. The only thing that was noticed is that I have about 20k spooky
wakeups without ANY software running on init 1 with all unloadable modules
removed...

Please take a look exactly here -
http://www.bughost.org/pipermail/power/2008-March/001327.html
No software running, no modules and only c2 state and 26 Watts!!! It's horrible.

Of course sometimes there are no stragne wakeups, sometimes there is plenty of
these...
For example now I have 'only' 30584 wakeups from idle... (2.6.24-15-generic)

[Bug 210780] Re: X slower after upgrade to 4GB RAM

2008-04-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
Actually that's good to know - upstream will be interested that the
issue still exists in recent git versions, since it'll be something they
need to investigate more deeply. It would be good for you to report
that to them directly, and attach the new log; seeing proof you're
subscribed couldn't hurt either. ;-)

Anyway, agreed, none of the diff looks relevant; nothing changed about
the write combining range. Thanks for doing the additional testing.

[Bug 212396] Re: Hardy Graphical Bug

2008-04-05 Thread FA22RaptorX
Compiz is pre-installed with Hardy, as well as with gutsy. To enable
the fire plugin:

sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

Then go to preferences and click advanced desktop settings, like the
second choice down.

Go find the fire plugin and enable it. As well as desktop cube and
rotation. When you rotate the cube you will see the bug ive been
talking about.

Thanks.

[Bug 212503] [NEW] drops into busybox when install the Hardy beta CDs

2008-04-05 Thread Jay Finger
Public bug reported:

I have tried the Ubuntu Hardy Beta i386 desktop CD (and Kubuntu...) and
am running happily on several systems. I have checked the CDs with
md5sum and all files are OK.

On one of my computers all install options will lead to a busybox prompt
(whether I do the install, try the live cd, or ask it to check the disc
for defects). Doesn't matter whether using the ubuntu or kubuntu disc.

I would be happy to post more information about this, but I'm not sure
what would be useful, or how to do any further troubleshooting.

The computer where the installer fails to boot is currently running
Gutsy, so if there are gutsy tools that I can run to give a useful
summary of the hardware, please let me know. Otherwise, what comes to
mind here:

[Bug 47388] Re: gksuexec doesn't work in dapper !

2008-04-05 Thread Darren Warner
I'm not actually running anything from an application. My use case is
that I have two accounts (one for work, one for personal use).
Occasionally, I'm in one session and want to run a program as my other
account.

It seems that the -u option neither works in gksu, or gksudo.

I'm now running Hardy beta. Running gksudo with -u resulted in the
following output after asking me for my password:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gksu -u warnerd thunderbird

(thunderbird-bin:10508): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

Then running gksudo came straight back to the command prompt (though it
looks like an application window popped up for an instant). Running gksu
again results in the same behaviour. Running gksu or gksudo without -u
works Ok.

[Bug 212501] [NEW] Please sync netatalk 2.0.3-9 from Debian(Unstable)

2008-04-05 Thread Stefan Ebner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: netatalk

A lot of handy fixes.

 netatalk (2.0.3-9) unstable; urgency=low

   * Update zeroconf patch (found in Gentoo bug#133575):
+ Enable zeroconf only if srvloc is not enabled.
+ Use Avahis threaded poll implementation only for Avahi >= 0.6.4,
and fallback to handling it internally.
   * Add patch 113 to add LSB dependency info to sysV script, and leave
shutdown process to core sendsigs routine. Closes: bug#459442.
   * Add patch 114 to fix macusers ps parsing bug. Closes: bug#462186.
   * Disable zeroconf support (enable by rebuilding with
 DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=zeroconf).  Closes: bug#462082, #463544.
   * Packaging moved to collab-maint Git at Alioth. Update VCS-* hints.
   * Update local cdbs snippets:
+ Major improvements to copyright-check, including new versioned
   build-dependency on devscripts. Update debian/copyright_hints.
+ Drop wget options broken with recent versions of wget in
   update-tarball.mk.
 + Update debian/README.cdbs-tweaks.
   * Semi-auto-update debian/control to apply changes contained in the above:
 DEB_AUTO_UPDATE_DEBIAN_CONTROL=yes fakeroot debian/rules clean

 -- Jonas Smedegaard <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Fri, 04 Apr 2008 23:08:59 +0200

netatalk (2.0.3-8) unstable; urgency=medium

   * Add patch 001 to sync with upstream CVS as of today.
   * Add rule to generate CVS snapshot patch.
   * Reduce patch 110 and unfuzz other patches to adapt to CVS snapshot.
   * Add patch 111 extending autotools macro resolving BerkeleyDB libs to
check newest versions first, and check versions 4.5 and 4.6 too.
   * Explicitly disable SLP support and build-conflict against libavahi-
compat-libdnssd-dev to not clash with AVAHI-based Zeroconf support.
Closes: bug#459395, thanks to Gregory Oschwald.
   * Add patch 112 to fix assertion in zeroconf patch. Closes:
 bug#457246, thanks to Omar Siam.
   * Set urgency=medium as lack of the above zeroconf fix silently broke
 netatalk completely in some situations.
   * Update cdbs tweaks:
 + Support zip in upstream-tarball.mk
+ Use ~ as repackaging delimiter in upstream-tarball.mk to make room
for point releases and cleaned up rerelease
+ Rename top srcdir in repackaged tarball to $pkg-$ver.orig to
   comply with Developers Reference 6.7.8.2.
+ Support mangling upstream version string in upstream-tarball.mk
 + Drop buildcore.mk override (set DEB_AUTO_UPDATE_DEBIAN_CONTROL
   manually when needed instead)
(none of the above affect this package currently)
+ Add (and use) new variables DEB_COPYRIGHT_CHECK_IGNORE and
   DEB_COPYRIGHT_CHECK_IGNORE_REGEX to copyright-check.mk.
   * Fix safety check in debian/rules for compiling official packages
 with SSL support.
   * Update section in README.Debian on recompiling with SSL support.

[Bug 212502] [NEW] Old mountpoints are no longer removed

2008-04-05 Thread Janek Thomaschewski
Public bug reported:

Since some updates of my Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy beta installation old
mountpoints of automounted USB UMS devices are no longer deleted. That's
not the same as described in #119633, because it has nothing todo with
the charsets in the device name. It's the same with SD cards, external
hard disks or USB sticks. It does not work to set a static mountpoint
with user rights in the "Rightclick/Preferences" menu of the devices so
it can be only bypassed by manually adding the drives to the fstab (Not
tested but should work).

I have my music library on my external drive and setted the static path
to it in Rhythmbox with the enabled watching option - now I'm unable to
really use my library in Rhythmbox...

Would be nice to see this fixed.

[Bug 212500] [NEW] spamassassin remote tests mangled

2008-04-05 Thread arturj
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hello,

after installing spamassassin and enabling its support in evolution I
noticed that spamassasin filtered only few spams (about 10% or even
less). I played with the commandline and found spamassassin to work very
well on CLI. It managed to filter nearly all of my spams without any CLI
options - just all default. So where is the difference? Which
configuration (files) are used by evolution?

After playing around with the "additional remote test (in german
"ferntests") option under evolution->preferences->mail-options->spam I
found spamassassin to filter much more spams (more than 90%) when this
option is DISABLED!!! Question: did some developer messed up the check-
box and reverted its function? When disabled spam processing is also
much slower which again points to a reverted check-box.

[Bug 212206] Re: [Hardy] digital output driver (SDVO) sets wrong resolution on GM965

2008-04-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
7oby, nothing seems obvious to me what's wrong, and you've provided all
necessary info that I know of, so I've gone ahead and forwarded the bug
upstream. Can you please also subscribe to that bug, in case they wish
for more info?

  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15370

One other thing that may be useful would be to test against a newer or
older version of the driver, to see if it is either fixed upstream
already, or a regression from a past version. Upstream often will ask
you to do these tests. I have some Ubuntu debs of newer and older
snapshots of the -intel driver from upstream's repository available here
if you'd like to go ahead and test them:

[Bug 212494] [NEW] mrxvt breaks vim

2008-04-05 Thread Evan Klitzke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vim

When i enter vim from mrxvt, the first command acts like it was prefixed
with 'c'. That is, if I type a movement command (e.g. j, G) it causes
part of the buffer to be deleted and I am entered into insert mode. This
is the same problem as http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=457048

When i asked about this on #vim someone told me:

13:50 < godlygeek> evan_: upgrade to a newer vim. it's a known bug that
was fixed in a (relatively) recent patch.

so maybe vim just needs to be bumped.

[Bug 103929] Re: Bash prompt string looks for xterm-color, gnome terminal identifies as xterm

2008-04-05 Thread Micah Cowan
Well, right: because, as the bug indicates, gnome-terminal advertises
itself as xterm rather than xterm-color.

So, for some terminals (xterm itself, perhaps?), color will be on by
default, while in others it will be off. Better to make it consistently
one way or the other for _all_ color-capable term emulators.

If you'd like to apply the patch, but comment _out_ the whole block of
code, that seems fine (might irk a few non-gnome-terminal users that had
been used to it, but I kind of doubt it: they can just uncomment it, and
anyway they've hopefully already customized their .bashrc the way they
like it, so wouldn't be affected by /etc/skel).

Do you run Wireshark as root or as your normal user? Does the
bookmarks problem occur when you run it as your everyday user? It is
best to close all Firefox windows before performing each part of the
tests. If you are unsure what is the difference between running it as
root and as a normal user, please tell me and I'll explain what that
means and how to tell.

If the problem persists when you run Wireshark as your everyday user,
can you please attach a screenshot of Firefox when the bookmarks are
hidden by Wireshark help and another screenshot of Firefox when
everything is OK and the bookmarks are not hidden?

[Bug 201527] Re: gnome-appearance-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_theme_get_frame_style()

2008-04-05 Thread Balaam's Miracle
I was a bit too hasty with pressing the "save changes" button.
Here is what i did when i got the crash:

- Open gnome-appearance-properties
- On theme tab, choose a theme.
- Click "Customize..." button
- Select a different set of controls on the "Controls" tab (thumbs are not
created, but that's a different bug, but for all i know, could be related) .
- Close "Customize" window.
- Close gnome-appearance-properties.
At this point Apport notified me of the crash.

The problem though, is that it's utterly unpredictable. I did the exact same
thing as when i got the first crash, but couldn't reproduce the problem this
time.
Please take a really close look at the routine that crashed.

Ok here goes. Apparently for each keystroke entered on the text-based
location bar after an FTP connection has been made, gvfsd-ftp spawns a

Nautilus handles changes on the text-based location bar. Here is the
output of the attached gdb after typing a few letters on the location
bar (e.g adding 'public_html' to 'ftp://ftp.server.net/')

[Bug 212206] Re: [Hardy] digital output driver (SDVO) sets wrong resolution on GM965

2008-04-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
In looking at the logs, I notice a few interesting details, but nothing
to explain the issue.

This error is only appears in the digital log, and sounds very suspicious (I
don't know what it means though):
(EE) intel(0): Unable to write to SDVOCTRL_E for SDVOB Slave 0x70.

Also, I see that TMDS-1 is disconnected with VGA but connected with
digital; I wouldn't think that would make a difference but it's an
interesting data point.

The DPI's are also set to different values on each output - this may be
why your display seems fuzzy; perhaps temporarily you can force it by
hard-coding your DPI's to 96 or whatever.

There's other differences in warnings for pipe B, drm devices, and so
on, but I suspect those are not relevant here.

[Bug 212492] [NEW] cell/mobile phone has to be added as an input device to be used as a Bluetooth remote control

2008-04-05 Thread Simon Ruggier
Public bug reported:

I've managed to get my cellular phone (a Sony-Ericsson z520) working as a
remote input device, but in order to get it working, I had to:
Open Bluetooth preferences
Select the service tab
Select the input service
Click the add button under the list of input devices
Click on the "show all devices checkbox"
Select my phone to be added

Once this is done, I can successfully initiate a remote control session
from the phone's UI. If I remove my phone from the list of input
devices, then attempt to initiate a session, the phone says it is
connecting, then that it's "connecting remote control", and then it
fails there. It would be better if this worked without needing to add
the phone to a list of input devices before making an attempt.
