[Bug 212521] [NEW] [hardy] installation fails even if openjdk-6-jdk is installed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: tomcat5.5 I just installed tomcat5.5 from Hardy. It installed openjdk-6-jre, so the init script failed at line 48 because openjdk-6-jre does not include bin/jdb As bug #179447 explains, bin/jdb is part of a -jdk vs. a -jre package, and tomcat5.5's dependencies should ensure one is installed. It seems to me this could be achieved by depending on "java2-sdk" instead of "java2-runtime". I added this comment to Debian bug #458412, however I admittedly know little about the Java packaging policy... In the meantime, I installed openjdk-6-jdk, but the tomcat5.5 init script still fails because line 40 does not include "/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk": [/etc/init.d/tomcat5.5 line 40] JDK_DIRS="/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun /usr/lib/j2sdk1.5-sun /usr/lib/j2sdk1.5-ibm /usr/lib/j2sdk1.4-sun /usr/lib/j2sdk1.4-blackdown /usr/lib/j2se/1.4 /usr/lib/j2sdk1.4-ibm /usr/lib/j2sdk1.3-sun /usr/lib/j2sdk1.3-blackdown /usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj /usr/lib/kaffe" # Look for the right JVM to use for jdir in $JDK_DIRS; do [...] Perhaps a more maintainable way to find the right JVM would be to: for jdir in /usr/lib/jvm/*; do [...] - or perhaps JAVA_HOME=/usr would work, since /usr contains bin/java and bin/jdb. [Bug 212308] Re: Freeze after flipping display 180deg (8.04b)
Now that things are working again, here are more details. After logging in in GNOME Safe mode, then back out and in via usual login, the system ran fine with the display no longer inverted. However oddly the top and bottom desktop panels had switched places of their own accord (all had been right in safe mode). They would not change back, until I checked "expand" in properties once more. I then moved them and unchecked expand when I had everything where I wanted. The panels still will not move around with expand unchecked. As a result of my experiences so far there would appear to be an issue with both inverting the display, and a minor one regarding panel movement. The latter could be a system wide issue but the former is clearly purely to do with user settings as the login screen at all times was not inverted, only after login. Upon reflection, whilst that itself is not a bug, is a redesign an idea? If someone did have a setup requiring inversion I doubt they would want to have to login upside down every time, which is what would happen right now even with no bugs present. I have been running the system in its default configuration always up to date, edits have only been visual via menus. [Bug 207184] Re: compiz: artifacts when transforming videos
Okay thanks, that pinpoints what patch caused the problem, to the overlay patch. Unfortunately, that one is necessary to avoid some even worse bugs on some people's hardware, so we cannot easily drop it. Maybe in the future we'll have some better solutions, but meanwhile I hope the workarounds (no-xv, TexturedVideo, etc.) give you some alternative options. The good news is that there is a *lot* of work going on upstream in this area, and I expect once Intrepid opens and we can pull in the newest X stuff in a couple months we'll have some new approaches to solving this. For now, I'll move this over to a wishlist since I think there isn't much we can do (other than forcing one of the workarounds - which as you noted are not that great either.) ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Low => Wishlist -- compiz: artifacts when transforming videos https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207184 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 47388] Re: gksuexec doesn't work in dapper !
I'm not actually running anything from an application. My use case is that I have two accounts (one for work, one for personal use). Occasionally, I'm in one session and want to run a program as my other account. It seems that the -u option neither works in gksu, or gksudo. I'm now running Hardy beta. Running gksudo with -u resulted in the following output after asking me for my password: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gksu -u warnerd thunderbird (thunderbird-bin:10508): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ Then running gksudo came straight back to the command prompt (though it looks like an application window popped up for an instant). [Bug 212500] [NEW] spamassassin remote tests mangled
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Hello, after installing spamassassin and enabling its support in evolution I noticed that spamassasin filtered only few spams (about 10% or even less). I played with the commandline and found spamassassin to work very well on CLI. It managed to filter nearly all of my spams without any CLI options - just all default. So where is the difference? Which configuration (files) are used by evolution? After playing around with the "additional remote test (in german "ferntests") option under evolution->preferences->mail-options->spam I found spamassassin to filter much more spams (more than 90%) when this option is DISABLED!!! Question: did some developer messed up the check- box and reverted its function? When disabled spam processing is also much slower which again points to a reverted check-box. [Bug 103929] Re: Bash prompt string looks for xterm-color, gnome terminal identifies as xterm
Well, right: because, as the bug indicates, gnome-terminal advertises itself as xterm rather than xterm-color. So, for some terminals (xterm itself, perhaps?), color will be on by default, while in others it will be off. Better to make it consistently one way or the other for _all_ color-capable term emulators. If you'd like to apply the patch, but comment _out_ the whole block of code, that seems fine (might irk a few non-gnome-terminal users that had been used to it, but I kind of doubt it: they can just uncomment it, and anyway they've hopefully already customized their .bashrc the way they like it, so wouldn't be affected by /etc/skel). -- Bash prompt string looks for xterm-color, gnome terminal identifies as xterm https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103929 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I was a bit too hasty with pressing the "save changes" button. Here is what i did when i got the crash: - Open gnome-appearance-properties - On theme tab, choose a theme. - Click "Customize..." button - Select a different set of controls on the "Controls" tab (thumbs are not created, but that's a different bug, but for all i know, could be related) . - Close "Customize" window. - Close gnome-appearance-properties. I did the exact same thing as when i got the first crash, but couldn't reproduce the problem this time. i have not been able to reproduce this. it was with 2.6.24-12.22. i can't see anything in the changlog that looks related. -- disk corruption ext3_free_blocks_sb: bit already cleared for block 232785 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209346 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 209355] Re: Cannot navigate to FTP location (gvfs) using text-based location bar
Ok here goes. Apparently for each keystroke entered on the text-based location bar after an FTP connection has been made, gvfsd-ftp spawns a new thread. This seems to be a Nautilus bug having to do with how Nautilus handles changes on the text-based location bar. Here is the output of the attached gdb after typing a few letters on the location bar (e.g adding 'public_html' to 'ftp://ftp.server.net/') (gdb) c Continuing. () For each character a new thread was spawned leading to the SIGABRT a few seconds later. I believe this should be sufficient to complete this bug report. If someone could triage the findings and confirm that'd be great. As it stands right now, FTPing from Nautilus is badly broken. -- Cannot navigate to FTP location (gvfs) using text-based location bar https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209355 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 212206] Re: [Hardy] digital output driver (SDVO) sets wrong resolution on GM965
In looking at the logs, I notice a few interesting details, but nothing to explain the issue. This error is only appears in the digital log, and sounds very suspicious (I don't know what it means though): (EE) intel(0): Unable to write to SDVOCTRL_E for SDVOB Slave 0x70. Also, I see that TMDS-1 is disconnected with VGA but connected with digital; I wouldn't think that would make a difference but it's an interesting data point. The DPI's are also set to different values on each output - this may be why your display seems fuzzy; perhaps temporarily you can force it by hard-coding your DPI's to 96 or whatever. There's other differences in warnings for pipe B, drm devices, and so on, but I suspect those are not relevant here. -- [Hardy] digital output driver (SDVO) sets wrong resolution on GM965 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/212206 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 212491] [NEW] Live CD, first screen, Hebrew not correctly displayed
Public bug reported: When booting from the live cd of Ubuntu 8.04, a menu with all available languages appear. Choosing Hebrew switches the language to Hebrew, but displays it mirrored. It seems to be only an ltr=>rtl issue, but I am not an expert... I will attach a screenshot, if needed. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Live CD, first screen, Hebrew not correctly displayed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/212491 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 212492] [NEW] cell/mobile phone has to be added as an input device to be used as a Bluetooth remote control
Public bug reported: I've managed to get my cellular phone (a Sony-Ericsson z520) working as a remote input device, but in order to get it working, I had to: Open Bluetooth preferences Select the service tab Select the input service Click the add button under the list of input devices Click on the "show all devices checkbox" Select my phone to be added Once this is done, I can successfully initiate a remote control session from the phone's UI. If I remove my phone from the list of input devices, then attempt to initiate a session, the phone says it is connecting, then that it's "connecting remote control", and then it fails there. It would be better if this worked without needing to add the phone to a list of input devices before making an attempt. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- cell/mobile phone has to be added as an input device to be used as a Bluetooth remote control https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/212492 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
