[Bug 222939] Re: Driver nVidia GeForce 8400M GS (rev a1) Fails in Hardy
Hi agarwaen, Thanks for your update, I might give that a shot, but as of this morning a new update was rolled out, so I'm going to try that. I'd like to avoid installing the Nvidia one as it was like this in Fiesty, Gutsy fixed it, I'm hoping not to take backwards steps... I'll update with how I get on, maybe this update will fix our problems ! [Bug 195079] Re: BibleTime in Hardy alpha5 crashes with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
I too am somewhat frustrated by the [well] known bugs and can confirm that the open bugs affecting bibletime 1.6.4 are still there in Hardy Heron final. Please include 1.6.5 in the Hardy repos. As a side note: I did try to install Bibletime 1.6.5 from ftp://ftp.mepis.com/mepis/dists/mepis-7.0/main/binary-i386/ but there were dependency problems: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/Downloads$ sudo dpkg -i bibletime_1.6.5_i386.deb (Reading database ... 181784 files and directories currently installed.) [Bug 226025] [NEW] Duplicate icons in menu with kde4 and kde3
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kubuntu-kde4-desktop I'm using Hardy with ubuntu-desktop, kubuntu-dekstop and kubuntu- kde4-desktop packages installed. The main menu in Gnome has two entries for KDE packages - two Kate entries, two Konqueror entries and so on. Instead of one pointing to the kde3 version and the other to kde4 one, both are duplicates of each other and fire up kde3 apps when selected. The same thing happens for every application; whenever both the kde3 and kde4 versions are installed, eg. yakuake and yakuake-kde4 But if only the kde4 versoin is installed, a menu entry is added to gnome that points to nowhere. ** Affects: kubuntu-kde4-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Duplicate icons in menu with kde4 and kde3 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226025 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 226026] [NEW] Internet connection times out/not working
Public bug reported: Using a wired Ethernet card for connectivity. When booting the computer, Network Manager detects the card and I get an IP address, and the Internet works very briefly. After a couple of second's use of the Internet connection, the connection apparently "times out" or at least expires; during normal browsing, I'm typically able to read the first page I load but not the second. When reading mail, it usually manages to download only about half my mail before the connection dies. I can then right click Network Manager, uncheck "Enable Networking", wait a sec, check "Enable Networking" once again, which makes it connect and get the computer an IP address, etc ... whereuopn I once again have a few second's worth of Internet connection. So what did I do? Nothing, as far as I know; the system comes from a clean Gutsy install dating from November, recently (after release) upgraded to Hardy by the Upgrade Manager. The day it went wrong I installed some KVM extensions, found out KVM can't run on my CPU as it doesn't support virtualization optimization, and ended up simulating a Debian-derived system in Qemu instead. AFAIK that's the only things I've done the last days which might affect the kernel and its drivers. Nothing appears to be wrong with the hardware - if I boot into windows, wired networking works just fine. Here is some sample output from ifconfig: "eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:17:53:10:5f inet addr:84.238.94.107 Bcast:84.238.94.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::216:17ff:fe53:105f/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:2304 errors:0 dropped:2 overruns:0 frame:2 TX packets:1672 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:1275408 (1.2 MB) TX bytes:198555 (193.9 KB) Interrupt:17 Base address:0xe000 loLink encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:4143 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:4143 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:213215 (208.2 KB) TX bytes:213215 (208.2 KB)" Here is the Ethernet card's entry from lspci: 04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. [Bug 226022] [NEW] Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron - System locks up when returning from standby
Public bug reported: Hi, I have noticed a problem with Hardy Heron. I am not sure exactly how to describe this problem, but I will do my best. I apologize in advance if I am not clear. This problem seems to occur whenever I bring my system back up after a long standby period. The OS boots up fine and I can log in, but I cannot start any of my applications. For example, earlier today I was trying to check my bank account balance so I tried to open up firefox. The system appeared to be active for a few seconds but firefox never started. I looked in the system monitor and found firefox listed under the process tab and its status said sleeping. I tried to start firefox a second time and once again there was another entry in the system monitor, but its status also said sleeping. I ended both processes and attempted to start firefox again but the same thing happened. The same problem also occurred with the evolution mail program. I was also unable to log out or shutdown the machine. It seems that any processes started prior to the long standby period continue to function, but no new processes can be started. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron - System locks up when returning from standby https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226022 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It is a pity that these tools are missing. While perhaps only 'alpha' quality, the official vmware tools are currently broken on hardy, whereas the open tools work. [Bug 226014] [NEW] blacklisted e1000 module still loading
Public bug reported: My Intel motherboard has onboard intel GBE. I am also using an intel pro 1000 PT card. Both should be using the e1000e driver, but the latter loads the e1000 module by default (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/222831), so lsmod shows both the e1000 and e1000e modules loaded on a fresh boot. I added a line "blacklist e1000" to the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, but after a reboot e1000 is loaded again for the pro 1000 pt. This can be corrected by doing "rmmod e1000e && rmmod e1000 && modprobe e1000e && /etc/init.d/networking restart". I started bug #225480. It is a duplicate of this and have marked it as such, but I did have something else to add to this: I tried to play around with the "Custom Location" service type and now I know there is something wrong. Here's what I found when I put in various URIs: http://xx.com/users/myaccount -> Firefox opens and asks for authentication, followed by web interface. https://xx.com/users/myaccount -> Same behavior as http dav://xx.com/users/myaccount -> "Can't display location "dav://xx.com/users/myaccount" HTTP Error: Moved Temporarily" davs://xx.com/users/myaccount -> Nautilius prompts for User/Pass, then says "Can't display location "dav://xx.com/users/myaccount" HTTP Error:Not Found" BUT! a network folder is mounted (appears on desktop and under places in Nautilus) named "WebDAV on xx.com" and clicking on it opens a properly usable net folder. -- Option to connect to "secure webdav" network locations missing in nautilus https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/222532 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The devices will resume working (which never used to on earlier kernels) after doing this: umount drive Power cycle drive mount drive. here is my /var/log/messages from when I was getting the drive back online: May 3 11:16:39 cesspit kernel: [155646.665581] usb 2-4: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 10 May 3 11:16:42 cesspit kernel: [155650.930383] usb 2-4: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 10 May 3 11:16:42 cesspit kernel: [155651.218163] usb 2-4: device firmware changed May 3 11:16:42 cesspit kernel: [155651.218198] usb 2-4: USB disconnect, address 10 May 3 11:16:42 cesspit kernel: [155651.218594] sd 6:0:0:0: [sde] Result: hostbyte=DID_ERROR driverbyte=DRIVER_OK,SUGGEST_OK May 3 11:16:42 cesspit kernel: [155651.218803] sd 6:0:0:0: [sde] Result: hostbyte=DID_ERROR driverbyte=DRIVER_OK,SUGGEST_OK May 3 11:16:42 cesspit kernel: [155651.321842] usb 2-5: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 11 May 3 11:16:43 cesspit kernel: [155651.474080] usb 2-5: device firmware changed May 3 11:16:43 cesspit kernel: [155651.474080] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdf] Result: hostbyte=DID_ERROR driverbyte=DRIVER_OK,SUGGEST_OK May 3 11:16:43 cesspit kernel: [155651.474249] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdf] Result: hostbyte=DID_ERROR driverbyte=DRIVER_OK,SUGGEST_OK May 3 11:16:43 cesspit kernel: [155651.549534] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdf] Result: hostbyte=DID_ERROR driverbyte=DRIVER_OK,SUGGEST_OK May 3 11:16:43 cesspit kernel: [155651.582133] usb 2-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 16 May 3 11:16:43 cesspit kernel: [155651.613836] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdf] Result: hostbyte=DID_ERROR driverbyte=DRIVER_OK,SUGGEST_OK May 3 11:16:43 cesspit kernel: [155651.660971] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdf] Result: hostbyte=DID_ERROR driverbyte=DRIVER_OK,SUGGEST_OK May 3 11:16:43 cesspit kernel: [155652.130060] usb 2-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 17 May 3 11:16:44 cesspit kernel: [155652.699106] usb 2-4: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice May 3 11:16:44 cesspit kernel: [155652.751997] scsi10 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices May 3 11:16:44 cesspit kernel: [155652.811351] usb 2-5: USB disconnect, address 11 May 3 11:16:44 cesspit kernel: [155652.811351] lost page write due to I/O error on sdf1 May 3 11:16:44 cesspit kernel: [155652.969331] usb 2-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 18 May 3 11:16:44 cesspit kernel: [155653.105750] usb 2-5: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice May 3 11:16:44 cesspit kernel: [155653.117219] scsi11 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices May 3 11:16:49 cesspit kernel: [155658.678815] scsi 10:0:0:0: Direct-Access WDC WD30 00JB-00KFA0 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2 CCS May 3 11:16:49 cesspit kernel: [155658.687351] sd 10:0:0:0: [sdc] 586070255 512-byte hardware sectors (300068 MB) May 3 11:16:49 cesspit kernel: [155658.688338] sd 10:0:0:0: [sdc] Write Protect is off May 3 11:16:49 cesspit kernel: [155658.690078] sd 10:0:0:0: [sdc] 586070255 512-byte hardware sectors (300068 MB) May 3 11:16:49 cesspit kernel: [155658.691086] sd 10:0:0:0: [sdc] Write Protect is off May 3 11:16:49 cesspit kernel: [155658.691101] sdc:<7>usb-storage: device scan complete May 3 11:16:49 cesspit kernel: [155659.020803] scsi 11:0:0:0: Direct-Access WDC WD20 00JB-00GVC0 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0 May 3 11:16:50 cesspit kernel: [155659.720107] sdc1 May 3 11:16:50 cesspit kernel: [155659.720107] sd 10:0:0:0: [sdc] Attached SCSI disk May 3 11:16:50 cesspit kernel: [155659.720107] sd 10:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg1 type 0 May 3 11:16:50 cesspit kernel: [155659.720107] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdd] 390721968 512-byte hardware sectors (200050 MB) May 3 11:16:50 cesspit kernel: [155659.721120] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdd] Write Protect is off May 3 11:16:50 cesspit kernel: [155659.723127] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdd] 390721968 512-byte hardware sectors (200050 MB) May 3 11:16:50 cesspit kernel: [155659.725148] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdd] Write Protect is off May 3 11:16:50 cesspit kernel: [155659.725174] sdd: sdd1 May 3 11:16:50 cesspit kernel: [155659.741298] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdd] Attached SCSI disk May 3 11:16:50 cesspit kernel: [155659.741366] sd 11:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0 May 3 11:17:47 cesspit kernel: [155726.433030] xfs_force_shutdown(sdb1,0x1) called from line 420 of file fs/xfs/xfs_rw.c. [Bug 225998] [NEW] Screenshot shows transparency instead of other monitor
Public bug reported: I'm using gnome, two monitors configured with xinerama by the nvidia drivers. When "Take Screenshot" program attempts to take a screenshot, it only is taking a screenshot of my left (primary) monitor -- and filling the area where the right monitor should be, with transparency. (As can be seen by attached screenshot) The screenshot should be of both monitors - or preferably give the option of what to choose. But definitely shouldn't only show 1 monitor with the rest transparent. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Screenshot shows transparency instead of other monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/225998 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 222278] Re: upgrade hangs in checkViewDepends()
We've tried to recreate this bug report and been unsuccessful. You could really help us out as there some other reports like this by gathering some more information about why it fails. Could you follow the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Strace and add the strace log file to your bug report? I'll leave the bug open here for the time being. This is either a bug in the documenation, or the implementation of iproute.
