[Bug 45728] Re: "Media file could not be played." when P key kept pressed

2008-05-08 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Totem (in 7.10) goes a little bit funny when using the reproduction
steps. Keep P held down until the time bar stops moving from left to
right (this seems to happen after about 6 seconds on my system). When
you next unpause the seekbar will not move and the sound will never
start playing. totem no longer locks up though. Should this go into a
new bug report?

Hi,

I am relatively new to linux. I am having problems getting the updated

by step guide can be found. I don't want to post my problems here if

Thanks

[Bug 218334] Re: lockup on mac mini 945GM [8086:27a2]

2008-05-08 Thread Smurphy
as Dmitry pointed out - you can almost eliminate these effects by:
a. Disable Display power Management completely. Do this as Administrator AND
User.
b. Completely disable kpowersaved

Disabling a just as user didn't stop these effects to happen. Since I
also disabled it as Administrator - I barely had a black screen anymore
!

[Bug 228550] [NEW] aspect ratio crop tool hangs

2008-05-08 Thread tzara
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: digikam

After some kde packages upgraded (about 1 week ago ~ may 4) when choosing
aspect ratio crop tool X hangs.
I tried it with xorg and xgl too. In both cases X became non-responsive.
(alt+ctrl+1 multiple times brings up console).
The system recovers after a while (about 3 minutes). For that time X uses 100%
of CPU.
In the Xorg log I see a lots of lines like this:
-- cut --
mieqEnequeue: out-of-order valuator event; dropping.
tossed event which came in late
-- cut --
When the system recovers the aspect ratio crop appears and works as normally.

Packages:

[Bug 228534] Re: Does not wrap *at() functions which makes fakechroot fail badly with Hardy

2008-05-08 Thread Martin Pitt
Proposed debdiff for hardy-proposed. Tested on i386 and amd64,
debootstrapping hardy now works fine.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: fakechroot

Using fakechroot to debootstrap and work with Ubuntu had worked fine
until Gutsy. With Hardy it breaks completely, scripts fail with all
sorts of weird errors, such as rm claiming that /etc/shells.tmp does not
  exist (although it does).

The reason is that Hardy's glibc and coreutils started to use the new
*at() family of system calls, such as fxstatat(), openat(), etc., but
fakechroot does not handle them at all. Thus paths are not converted to
  the fakechroot environment.

  TEST CASE:
sudo apt-get install fakechroot fakeroot
mkdir /tmp/c
cd /tmp/c
mkdir bin lib
cp /lib/*.so lib
cp /bin/{bash,cp,rm,mkdir,echo,ls} bin
fakeroot fakechroot chroot /tmp/c

Now try some commands in the chroot and see how many break with absolute path
names:
$ mkdir /test
$ echo hello > /test/foo
$ ls /test/foo
/test/foo
$ rm /test/foo
rm: cannot remove `/test/foo': No such file or directory
$ rm -r /test
rm: cannot remove `/test': No such file or directory

They do work with relative paths:
$ rm test/foo
$ rm -r test

With the updated version of fakechroot, the ones with absolute path
  names work.

If you do not mind downloading some MB from the net, you can/should test
  debootstrapping:

 sudo apt-get install debootstrap
-fakeroot fakechroot debootstrap hardy /tmp/hardy
http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu
+fakeroot fakechroot debootstrap --variant=fakechroot hardy /tmp/hardy
http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu

(use your local mirror). This fails horribly with the fakechroot in
hardy final, but should work with the hardy-proposed version.

[Bug 228547] [NEW] [usability] Make shortcut for trash:/// in "Places > Trash"

2008-05-08 Thread brettalton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I don't know what has happened here in Hardy (or to my computer) but all
of sudden, my Trash applet in gnome-panel has disappeared.

I've ran:
$ killall gnome-panel

and tried to re-add "Trash" from "Add to Panel..." and even rebooted.

I'm not complaining about that bug (I will file a separate report for
that). What I am stating here is that there needs to be a secondary
method to find the user's trash bin. In GNOME 2.22, the Trash is no
longer found at ~/.Trash, but (by default) ~/.local/share/Trash (which
is harder to find for a regular desktop user (if they even know how to
view hidden files)) and I'm sure most don't know about 'trash:///' in
Nautilus.

Thus I'm proposing to have the Trash bin in "Places > Trash" as a
fallback (In case something happens to the Trash applet) and a usable
shortcut (highly usable and visible in the main menu).

What's the current procedure for a regular user if they accidentally
removed their Trash icon/applet or a bug has occurred and it has
disappeared?

[Bug 228534] Re: Does not wrap *at() functions which makes fakechroot fail badly with Hardy

2008-05-08 Thread Martin Pitt

+
+ TEST CASE:
+ sudo apt-get install fakechroot fakeroot
+ mkdir /tmp/c
+ cd /tmp/c
+ mkdir bin lib
+ cp /lib/*.so lib
+ cp /bin/{bash,cp,rm,mkdir,echo,ls} bin
+ fakeroot fakechroot chroot /tmp/c
+
+ Now try some commands in the chroot and see how many break with absolute path
names:
+ $ mkdir /test
+ $ echo hello > /test/foo
+ $ ls /test/foo
+ /test/foo
+ $ rm /test/foo
+ rm: cannot remove `/test/foo': No such file or directory
+ $ rm -r /test
+ rm: cannot remove `/test': No such file or directory
+
+ They do work with relative paths:
+ $ rm test/foo
+ $ rm -r test
+
+ With the updated version of fakechroot, the ones with absolute path
+ names work.
+
+ If you do not mind downloading some MB from the net, you can/should test
+ debootstrapping:
+
+sudo apt-get install debootstrap
+fakeroot fakechroot debootstrap hardy /tmp/hardy
http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu
+
+ (use your local mirror). This fails horribly with the fakechroot in
+ hardy final, but should work with the hardy-proposed version.

[Bug 228534] Re: Does not wrap *at() functions which makes fakechroot fail badly with Hardy

2008-05-08 Thread Martin Pitt
Fixed in Intrepid yesterday:

fakechroot (2.6-1.3ubuntu2) intrepid; urgency=low

  * src/libfakechroot.c:
- Define openat(), to unbreak rm -r.
- Define fchmodat(), to unbreak chmod.
- Define fchownat(), to unbreak chown.
This fixes everything which broke debootstrapping Hardy.
  * test/fakechroot.sh: Add cp, mkdir, chmod.

 -- Martin Pitt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Thu, 08 May 2008 22:13:43
+0200

fakechroot (2.6-1.3ubuntu1) intrepid; urgency=low

  * src/libfakechroot.c: Provide wrapping of unlinkat(), __fxstatat(), and
__fxstatat64() to unbreak rm'ing absolute directories. This extends the
original patch from Daniel Kahn Gillmor in Debian #473682. Still
incomplete, since other *at() functions are still missing, but those are
the most pressing which cause the Apport retracers to fail so badly.
  * test/fakechroot.sh: Add /bin/rm, and call bash instead of sh.

[Bug 228539] [NEW] diff -c0 reports change instead of delete

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: diff

Using Ubuntu 7.04
version reported with apt-cache policy diff
diff:
  Installed: 2.8.1-11ubuntu4

When the command diff -c0 A B is used to compare the two separate text
files (with contents listed below), shouldn't diff report the test2 line
as "deleted" by preceding it with a minus sign in the diff output?
Instead diff reports the test2 line as a changed line by preceding it
with an exclamation point in the diff output. This behavior is triggered
by having the line "This is a test3" contain a change in file B. Diff
functions as expected if the test3 line is the same in file A and B.

file A

file B

Duh... it's late, sorry folks. I'm done. Obviously the patch is valid
since the interface actually *did* change. And, I'm running 2.3 now,
against a build of the libqof from Debian Sid, and everything is working
just fine. I bet that the original crash I had would not have happened

2008-05-08 Thread Darryl Grennan
exploder:

I've done all of the updates to Hardy and I can't report the positive
outcome that you have. This bug seems rather elusive but not uncommon.
I've read multiple threads on ubuntuforums.org which report the same
issue.

There's a bunch of people that I would like to upgrade to Hardy but I
simply can't because I will get numerous calls about their system being
"broken" if they see this crap every time they shutdown their computer.

Even if there was a workaround, I could live with that. But I've tried
a few proposed methods to eradicate this issue and nothing has helped.

[Bug 228534] [NEW] Does not wrap *at() functions which makes fakechroot fail badly with Hardy

2008-05-08 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fakechroot

Using fakechroot to debootstrap and work with Ubuntu had worked fine
until Gutsy. With Hardy it breaks completely, scripts fail with all
sorts of weird errors, such as rm claiming that /etc/shells.tmp does not
exist (although it does).

The reason is that Hardy's glibc and coreutils started to use the new
*at() family of system calls, such as fxstatat(), openat(), etc., but
fakechroot does not handle them at all. Thus paths are not converted to
the fakechroot environment.

Thanks Jake,

I followed the link and installed the two debs. It now works without crashing
as with the
reported bugs in 1.6.4.

When will 1.6.5 make it into the repos?

Blessings,

Nigel

[Bug 228532] [NEW] Evolution having trouble with AT&T SSL Encrypted E-mail

2008-05-08 Thread David
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This might be an interesting clue for the developers of Evolution.

I had been using AT&T/Yahoo! with SSL connections (using the default
port 465 for SMTP and 995 for POP) for about a year with no problem. I
was/am using my sbcglobal.net e-mail address as my username, but in both
Evolution and Outlook 2003, I used my college alumni e-mail address as
my "Email Address" in the "Required Information" section of the "Account
Editor", "Identity" tab.

Recently both Evolution and Microsoft Outlook 2003 (running on Windows
XP) developed a problem that required attempting multiple times to send
e-mails before they were finally transmitted. The SMTP server sent back
an error indicating that the from e-mail address had not been verified,
and to go to
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/manage/sendfrom-07.html
for directions on what to do to fix the problem. I followed the
described procedure, and Outlook works flawlessley, but Evolution
continued to have problems.

The solution with Evolution was to enter into the "Reply-To" email
address in the "Optional Information" the same e-mail address as the
"E-Mail Address", i.e., my college alumni account. However, now every
e-mail I send contains "Reply-To" e-mail information in the header that
is duplicative of the "From" e-mail address. Outlook did not require
that I define a "Reply-To" address, and there is no "Reply-To"
information in the e-mails it sends.

My question is whether Evolution's SMTP client is not sending something
that it should be sending.

Hope this helps.

David

[Bug 114810] Re: pugasus usb network problems

2008-05-08 Thread Chris Ostler
I'm not sure what activity was expected - I had posted what information
I thought might be useful, and never received a response.

Unfortunately, now that it is a year later, I have since had to revert
back to a Windows install. If time permits, I may be able to set up a
virtual machine and try to recreate the issue in that environment. If I
am able to do so I will report back.

[Bug 145658] Re: xfce4-terminal graphical corruption

2008-05-08 Thread Greg Toombs
Sorry about the delay. In Gutsy, this problem seems to be caused by a
bug in fglrx, and only when compositing is enabled. There are a host of
other rendering glitches that also occur when compositing is enabled.
xfce compositing works "most of the time", but some windows often show
garbage video memory. In Hardy none of these problems occur anymore, so
I would mark this as 'fixed' rather than 'invalid'.

In case you're curious, I've also attached my xorg log.

Yes, that's what I am looking for -- I was aware of the diff you mention, since

Well, in bug #197950 it seems to be related to the "filedialog" thing of
Trolltech.conf -- but there's no sign of it in your Trolltech.conf. Don't
hesitate to post a diff if it evolves.

Yet, our two bugs need not be duplicates in order to be related...

Maybe Peitschie has something else with his Trolltech.conf?

[Bug 228530] [NEW] GLscreensaver freezes and stops system clock

2008-05-08 Thread burgwinkel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Screensaver (skyrockets) freezes after running for about an hour,
sometimes longer. This occurs every time the screensaver is left to
run without keyboard or mouse input, eventually the animation freezes.
Moving the mouse clears the screensaver and the normal desktop
reappears, but always the system clock has stopped at about the same
time as the screensaver froze. System time must be reset manually.

I was able to ssh into the system while the screensaver was frozen and
htop (top would not run via ssh) showed 'nan' for every instance of cpu%
listed. The newest (highest pid) process was artsd, and attempting to
kill it via htop broke the ssh connection.

Both top and htop worked via ssh when the screensaver was running
normally, both showing normal processor activity. Computer sleep and
display sleep are both set to 'never' in power management.

System is AMD64 with nVidia. Will attach lspci. lsb_release returns:
Description:Ubuntu 8.04
Release:8.04

[Bug 227327] Re: [clamav] several open CVE issues

2008-05-08 Thread Scott Kitterman
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 217256 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/217256

CVE 2008-1837 does refer to code not present in the Debian/Ubuntu
package. The others are all fixed in 0.92.1~dfsg2-1.1. The fixes were
backported from 0.93 shortly after 0.93's release. Progress of these
fixes (these new CVE numbers seem duplicative ) is being tracked in Bug
#217256.

[Bug 107668] Re: Setting an invalid mount point can make a removeable media unaccessible

2008-05-08 Thread cdaringe
Hi fellers,

To baby those who are onlookers in desperate search of a solution (i'm
running Hardy)...

open a terminal.
type "gconf-editor"
click your way to "/system/storage/volumes/_org_freedesktop_Hal_devices_..."
you should now see mount point, and its value

You can do something here and get your drive to work, yes. However, if
you have programs with calls to that drive before you got a bunch of
wacko underscores (_), you'd probably like to return your drive to its
original mount point. If you dont, click the value field, and just
erase the text. Plug your drive back in and you are golden. exit out
of your terminal and rock on. if you do want to get things back to
their original state...

In my /media directory existed:
/CDback
/CDback_
/CDback__
/Mint
/Mint_
/Mint__

In my drive, I have two partitions. I would like to see them always
mount to /CDback and /Mint.

Be careful here. I did a quick "gksudo thunar" (or gksudo nautilus),
and erased ONLY those mount directories which were related to my drive.
you dont want to erase your standard hard drive's mounting point, or
your CD-ROM etc etc etc (sda,hda,cdrom,cdrom0,etc). Many a folk will
likely scold me for even mentioning doing this.a sudo rm MOUNT-
DIRECTORY would suffice for each sloppy underscored directory as well.
return to gconf-editor and remove the text from the 'value' field.

exit, plug back in...BAM! brilliant.

Thank these brainiacs above.
