Re: [Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2008-05-21 Thread thanos
Hi

Seems to me that you're referring to another bug. What I've observed is that
the "Network" is working but not "predictably". For example, if you login
and go to nautilus -> network, it is empty. If you leave things as they are
for 5-10 minutes, then try again, there are some things appearing. I dont
browse the network, I usually map the drives directly with smbfs. However, I
did notice this behavior so maybe you should watch out for it - leave it as
it is for 5-10 minutes, then open Nautilus -> Network again

Maybe it is dependent on the number of machines on the network? For us it is
more than 200...

[Bug 232485] Re: Vinagre impossible to uses de F1 and F9 keys o the remote computer

2008-05-21 Thread Scott Severance
Probably the best thing would be to use a popup like vncviewer; in
vncviewer, hitting F8 pops up a menu with the various settings,
including an option to send F8. Furthermore, F8 is vncviewer's *only*
keyboard shortcut, AFAIK.

A VNC client is a bit like a terminal app. Its job is to stay out of
your way so you can forget it exists. Just like gnome-terminal needs no
chrome (no menubar, no scrollbar, no statusbar, etc.), a VNC viewer
should have the bare minimum chrome (except for an F8 menu or equivalent
and a way to connect) so that it stays out of the way.

How to reproduce:
I have a share setup as follows:

path = /massive/devel
public = yes
printable = no
guest ok = yes
write list = steve
browsable = yes

I no longer get asked for credentials (hardy 8.04) when I browse to the

would allow me to write. It seems the write list is ignored...

[Bug 233853] Re: [intrepid]: nmbd fails to start

2008-05-21 Thread Steve Langasek
I don't see any way that this is a question of incorrect maintainer
script handling. This diff:

@@ -49,7 +49,8 @@
 # The specific set of interfaces / networks to bind to
 # This can be either the interface name or an IP address/netmask;
 # interface names are normally preferred
-; interfaces = 127.0.0.0/8 eth0
+# interfaces = 127.0.0.0/8 eth0
+ interfaces = 127.0.0.0/8

 # Only bind to the named interfaces and/or networks; you must use the
 # 'interfaces' option above to use this.

cannot be a result of the maintainer script changing anything, you must
have already had this 'interfaces' line manually set in smb.conf.

And therefore this is a configuration error, because it is not
meaningful to run nmbd on non-broadcast interfaces, and you haven't
listed any other interfaces that are broadcast interfaces on your
'interfaces' line.

Whta do you mean update to Firefox-3 is this an upgrade from gutsy to
hardy that you are seeing this? Hardy default browser is Firefox-3.0.
Does it fix itself after a restart or after running killall gnome-panel

[Bug 199059] Re: [Hardy] Thinkpad X31 (ATI Radeon M6) suspend backlight on

2008-05-21 Thread sten
thanks for the link.

I discovered this one, from the one you posted:
http://people.freedesktop.org/~hughsient/quirk/quirk-suspend-debug.html

"sudo pm-suspend --quirk-dpms-suspend" works the best yet. If this very
basic behaviour was implemented as the HAL and GNOME default, plus a
locked screen, then every would work perfectly for me...

Unfortunately there's still that "Policy timeout" error, and a bit of
messy pixels at the top of the screen (red), while resuming the GNOME
way, rather than this pm-suspend way. They garbled bits disappear after
the gnome/xscreensaver locked screen appears, but now I know that they
don't *need* to be there, because pm-suspend works perfectly

[Bug 233913] [NEW] Gnome launcher drops http ?parameters

2008-05-21 Thread Dick Dunbar
Public bug reported:

A Gnome desktop launcher set up with a web location requiring parameters fails
to send those parameters in Hardy official release. Worked fine in Gutsy and
earlier.
Example: link in launcher contains>
http://www.towboatgallery.com/ardvark/ardgbeX.php?where=89CentN120
Link actually used is> http://www.towboatgallery.com/ardvark/ardgbeX.php

The command you ran only tells you if its in the repos and what they
are. You would need a command like locate compiz or dpkg -l conpiz
So can you please paste the output from dpkg -l compiz, I wont need the
locate command. That is just refferal if ever needed.

Can you both answer the following questions?
Budly, can you please only answer the questions taht are not added to
your first post on bug.
1. what are the steps to reproduce this bug?
2. Do you have compiz enabled? to check please go to System >
preferences > appearance > Desktop-Effects.
3. If it is enabled can you reproduce this with it disabled and after a
restart?
4 What version of Ubuntu is this on?
5.What version of firefox are you seeing this?
6. I am unable to reproduce this with Firefox 3b5 and without compiz. So
please list exact steps you take to see this happen.
This sounds more like a Compiz issue but lets decide that after i get
the answers needed and if i think of more after your responces ill let

[Bug 199522] Re: Dim on idle does not brighten with activity

2008-05-21 Thread BandD
I have the same issue as pelle.k:

"Same here. Everytime it goes back up from "dim", it decreases until it hits
some magic bottom. I've got a brightness range of 0-8. I adjust it to 7. then,
let me illustrate;
idle > 7
dim > 4
idle > 6
dim > 4
idle > 5
dim > 4
idle > 5
dim > 4
idle > 5"

I ran a debug script and basically, when it is, boiled down it's the
same issue (full version attached for anyone interested). After each
dim, the resulting default restore brightness is diminished one level.
I can change the brightness to value "7" again (100%) via the brightness
applet, but something in gpm is causing the 'restore' brightness level
to decrease by "1" level each dim/undim cycle.

Instead of downloading it why not just install it with atp or adept or
synaptic since its in repos. This package should end up in security
repos but so far as far as i can tell its only been uploaded to Intrepid

[Bug 19775] Re: Missing hostname in /etc/hosts causes sudo to fail

2008-05-21 Thread Frank_C
I'm a little late to this conversation, but here is my problem, my fix and my
comment...
I updated from Guitsy to 8.04 LTS on my desktop I could not hook up with
my XP laptop in Gutsy (shared files could not be displayed on either computer)
but when i upgraded, i could instantly see all shares from each computer on the
other BUT, no apps needing Administrative password would work!!

etc/hosts: 127.0.0.1 localhost
 127.0.1.1 frank-desktop.mshome

After searching many web sites, i found some fixes... the on that
worked was deleting the .mshome from thw second line using network
tools/hosts...

now, all works well and i can still "network" fully!! WIERD!!!

[Bug 186499] Re: Special key to launch the browser does not work (Toshiba Satellite M70-249)

2008-05-21 Thread Antonio C. Costantino
I experience the same weirdness also in Kubuntu Hardy, with the omnibook
module and hotkey-setup 0.1-17ubuntu21.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: hotkey-setup

I don't know why, but the special key to supposed to launch the internet
browser does not work on my Toshiba Satellite M70-249 (as it is the only
one, I think it is not too bad at the end ;). All other keys just work
after I installed the omnibook module and configured the hotkeys
  configuration files:

  /usr/share/hotkey-setup/default.hk

  # Non-matched laptops
  setkeycodes e013 $KEY_WWW
  setkeycodes e014 226
  setkeycodes e077 164
  setkeycodes e012 166
  setkeycodes e039 163
  setkeycodes e074 165

  and

  /usr/share/hotkey-setup/generic.hk

  # All laptops
  # Particular settings for my Toshiba
  setkeycodes e013 $KEY_WWW
  setkeycodes e014 226
  setkeycodes e077 164
  setkeycodes e012 166
  setkeycodes e039 163
  setkeycodes e074 165

The strange thing is that when I change function to the e013 key it
works: I tried to open Amarok with the same key and it worked. Then I
tried to open the browser with the other keys, and it didn't work. I
- tried with both Firefox and Konqueror as default browser. I don't, but
- it seems that the only function that hotkey cannot call is $KEY_WWW (or
- the alternative 150, that I tried too).
+ tried with both Firefox and Konqueror as default browser. I don't know,
+ but it seems that the only function that hotkey cannot call is $KEY_WWW
+ (or the alternative 150, that I tried too).

The version I use is hotkey-setup 0.1-17ubuntu20 with kubuntu 7.10.

Hope this is helpful to solve the issue.

  Thanks,

  Antonio

[Bug 230890] Re: system freezes

2008-05-21 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I also facing the same problem. I also made some further
investigations.

1. login into the system and run the system monitor only. You will
notice that the available memory will slowly decrease as the time goes
by.

2. Boot up your system and do not login and wait for 3 or 4 hours, most
likely your keyboard and mouse will be frozen.

These phenomina indicate that somewhere the system has memory leak. I
think, this bug is critical need immediate attention.

[Bug 233903] [NEW] Cannot print after running out of paper

2008-05-21 Thread BillM
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cupsys

Once the printer (USB-connected HP PSC 950) runs out of paper and paper
is replenished, "out of paper" status is never updated. No further
printing is possible until Ubuntu (Gutsy) is restarted. The file
printingbuginfo (output from printingbuginfo script) is attached.

1. Release: Ubuntu 7.10
2. Package version: Don't know
2. Expected result: Get an error message, but be able to resume the job by
adding paper, setting the printer on-line and clicking retry somewhere
3. Actual result: It is only possible to print anything with a full restart of
Ubuntu

[Bug 233902] [NEW] Open App Moves Up And Down

2008-05-21 Thread OldeFoxx
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 8.04 with current updates.
Installed kbasic 1.69 Trial and VirtualBox, commercial version

This problem only occurs rarely, but has impacted both applications
above.

If an app is displayed full screen, covering all the desktop except the
top and bottom toolbars, I have found on some occasions that the app
becomes unstable. If I try to click on the display controls or close
the app by clicking on the icons in the upper right corner, the app will
abruptly move up, with the top portion slipping behind the top toolbar.
Use the left mouse button to click again, and it jumps back down to
where the app border is again displayed below the top toolbar. The
click of the left mouse button acts as a toggle to make the app window
move up and down repeatedly with each click.

This happened with kbasic and display settings of 1024x768. It happened
with Win98 running on VirtualBox with the display settings at 960x600.
I could only close each app using the button on the lower toolbar, as
the upper left controls were apparently only detectable when up and
behind the upper toolbar.

[Bug 218434] Re: gnome-keyring-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in location_manager_hal_init()

2008-05-21 Thread Wenzhuo Zhang
The proposed update seems to have fixed the problem for me. I haven't
seen gnome-keyring-daemon segfaults ever since yesterday afternoon when
I enabled the hardy-proposed channel and applied all the updates
therein.

Hardy is installed on an IDE disk, which is attached to the following

Prior to the proposed update, gnome-keyring-daemon often segfaulted upon
gnome login. I was able to login gnome though.

[Bug 205895] Re: [Hardy] Wine 100% cpu usage

2008-05-21 Thread wiz
I'm using wine from proposed to launch EVE online. On [fairly recent]
laptop CPU usage goes up to 100% and stays after exit. But on desktop
which is 3 years old it climbs to about 60-70% and drops right after
game closed. Both systems are 8.04 from scratch, but desktop is made
apt-by-apt from base system install with 'recommended' disabled.

I'm updated my client machine to proposed kernel. It fees much better,
but still not as good as in 7.10 - mouse sometimes lags a bit, keyboard
messes up typed symbols in alternate (russian) layout when i type quick.

[Bug 233900] [NEW] hellanzb queues NZBs but does not download

2008-05-21 Thread Menachem Shapiro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hellanzb

I am running Ubuntu 8.04 (hardy)
hellanzb version 0.13-3

When I run Hellanzb and import and NZB, it will queue the nzb, but it
won't download the files.

I found the same bug reported here:
http://www.hellanzb.com/trac/hellanzb/ticket/393

I followed the directions in Comment 6, and the problem was solved:
http://www.hellanzb.com/trac/hellanzb/ticket/393#comment:6

I edited the file
/usr/share/python-support/hellanzb/Hellanzb/NZBLeecher/Protocol.Py and right
below line 513 I added:
group = group.strip()

This solved the problem.

Hopefully someone will fix this problem and upload a new version of
hellanzb to the repositories.

sure what they do
