[Bug 46046] Re: wrong keyboard layout when reconfiguring xserver-xorg
I'm using a laptop with hardy and had problems with the resolution of an external monitor. So i ran dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg. Afterwards, keyboard layout was changed in xorg.conf from "de" to "us". This had the effect that I could not login under X because my password contained special characters. [Bug 197130] Re: [hardy] Black X screen and system halt after installing linux-rt
my two cents : I have a Dell Latitude D820 (video: Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300) I was using linux-rt and nvidia-glx-new in Gutsy. After upgrading to Hardy, I got the black screen / no response symptom. I changed for nvidia-glx (not new) still with linux-rt, and it worked fine. Compiz runs quite smoothly. NB: when switching to -generic, nvidia-glx-new and nvidia-glx both work fine. NB2: a colleague has exactly the same laptop. He did a fresh install of Hardy. When he installed the linux-rt kernel, he had the back screen, and fixed it by uninstalling nvidia-glx-new and installing nvidia-glx instead. -- [hardy] Black X screen and system halt after installing linux-rt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197130 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have experiencied this bug in Ubuntu Hardy, it happens when I have two users logged and logout from one of them. [Bug 131399] Re: %sudo ALL=NOPASSWD: ALL seems to have no effect in sudoers
There's still a problem here: Since the sudo package upgrade won't update the sudoers file, to fix it, one has to execute a command like this: sudo su -c "mv /etc/sudoers /etc/sudoers.bak && dpkg-reconfigure sudo && sed -i~ s/#\ %/%/ /etc/sudoers && adduser $USER sudo" This creates a backup and then recreates the sudoers file - so now it's fixed. BUT: Since the admin line is added by the installer, it will be missing from the fixed file. And on a new installation (Intrepid? 8.04.1?) where the fixed file may be the base, if the installer still adds the admin line after the sudo line, it will again be broken. Just wanted to point that out - maybe we can find an elegant solution? (Personally, the way I did it before the sudo group was used in the sudoers file, I simply changed "ALL=(ALL)" to "ALL=NOPASSWD:" on the %admin line. No need for the %sudo line.) -- %sudo ALL=NOPASSWD: ALL seems to have no effect in sudoers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131399 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 197589] Re: Numeric keypad no longer works after upgrade
I have two desktop computers. Both upgrades from 7.10 to 8.04 were painful. Normal internet upgrade failed during the install process and cd-upgrade's automatic option didn't work either. "A dialog will be displayed offering you the opportunity to upgrade using that CD. " - Ubuntu "If the upgrade dialog is not displayed for any reason, you may also run the following command using Alt+F2: " Not so straight work flow even here. A message popped up claiming that cd is not mounted, which it surely was. After remounting system seemed to hang but the announcement was hidden. It was under all the other windows but nothing indicated that it even exists. Next step was to realize that cd-upgrade is defenately not going to do anything nor it is giving any instructions. The lacking piece of advise was that cd should be added to one's download sources. After that and number of error pop-ups everything seemed to be ok, but my numpad stopped responding. As I mentioned, all this happened during both hardy upgrades. Solution (which is surely not intuitive) was this already mentioned one: " 1. Go to System > Preferences > Accessibility > Keyboard Accessibility 2. Select [x] Enable keyboard accessibility features 3. Go to the tab Mouse Keys and deselect [ ] Enable keyboard accessibility features." - Ubuntu - rather stable if not upgraded to LTS. -- Numeric keypad no longer works after upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197589 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 87661] Re: [apport] polytopes crashed with SIGILL in _mesa_x86_64_transform_points4_perspective()
By checking `uname -m` we only detect if the _kernel_ is x86-64. This would be a problem if someone was running a 64-bit kernel and a 32-bit userland because they would get MESA_NO_ASM exported without needing it. I think it would be better to do if [ `dpkg --print-architecture` = "amd64" ] Because that would tell us if we were running in an amd64 userland and that's what we really want to test for. I think checking for "3dnow" in flags is preferred because AMD is not the only cpu vendor using that technology, even though none of the others have built any 64-bit chips yet, it would probably be more future-proof. -- [apport] polytopes crashed with SIGILL in _mesa_x86_64_transform_points4_perspective() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/87661 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 229107] Re: Gnome fullscreen window placement does not work with dual monitor setup in Ubuntu 8.04
Although I cannot confirm that it worked in 7.10, I do confirm the 8.04-behaviour. I have a laptop (Apple MacBook2,1 with 82Q963/Q965 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) ) with one exit to attach an external monitor. For example "xpdf -fullscreen" or starting a presentation in OpenOffice appears only on the screen of the laptop, not the external monitor. This is an important issue, "being unable to compile linuxtv drivers on ubuntu." this also affects our trust to ubuntu and linux in future, i try to build a set-top-box using ubuntu and mythtv, and i cannot do it only because of this compilation issue. [Bug 212092] Re: firefox crashed randomly with segmentation fault
Hi It could be a flash related bug but that doesn't explain why GMail often triggers the crash. As I said previously I only have 256Mb RAM and if the module was faulty, I think it would cause more problems than just with Firefox. Its not possible that its not being used because there is only one module in this system - its not like "only one of them" is faulty because there is only one in total. How do I debug the crash? Its not really a crash - more that it just randomly closes but if I run it from a terminal it does say Segmentation fault. Also if the problem is with the flash plugin why didn't it make problems on Gusty? Why is it only since I've upgraded to Hardy (with Firefox 3) that I notice the problem? -- firefox crashed randomly with segmentation fault https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/212092 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
