[Bug 192888] Re: firefox crashes on flash contents when using libflashsupport

2008-06-01 Thread Arthur
I still think that some blame is to be put to ubuntu's firefox package.
Even though it may trigger a bug in the flash plugin itself it seems to
be significantly different to the official firefox releases from
mozilla.org which don't trigger this bug and don't crash.

[Bug 230294] Re: ERROR: bzrlib.errors.KnitCorrupt: Knit corrupt: attempt to add line-delta in non-delta knit

2008-06-01 Thread Martin Pitt
I am a heavy bzr user, and I have used the new version for some days
without any problem.

With "bzr checkout bzr+ssh://bazaar.launchpad.net/~planet-
ubuntu/config/main" I get the exception when using the hardy final
version. With the updated bzr, it works fine for me.

[Bug 224697] Re: Disable hibernation if swap is on file

2008-06-01 Thread Martin Pitt
In general that looks fine. However, you should robustify it for the
case that /proc/swaps does not exist for some reason (people might have
disabled it in the kernel config, or whatever). Also, can you please
open an upstream bug for it and link it here?

I'll sponsor this to intrepid and hardy-proposed after that. Thanks!

[Bug 236700] [NEW] UBUNTU 7.1 ANS 8.04 Fail on install while copying files

2008-06-01 Thread Chris Jeffries
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I have tried installing both 7.10 and 8.04 and got the same probelm both times.
I tried installing PC Linux OS into the same space without a similar problem.
The installer gets about 50% through the copying files process and then fails.
It suggests either the CD or my Hard disk is at fault (read/write error) but
the 7.10 was from a factory produced CD and the 8.04 was from a version burned
onto a DVD. So different media, different format (save drive reading). The hard
disk has been successfully filled with files as a windows partition previously
and formattted OK by the partitioner.

Last attempt yielded this message:
Installer Crashed

We're sorry: th einstaller crashed. Please file a new bug at and

I had to install PC Linux OS so that I could get a GRUB so I could get access
to my Windows installation.
ptn0: is a recovery partition for Windows (2.9gb.
ptn1 is the windows (NTFS) partition (35.6GB),
ptn2 is 32.2 Linux root and
ptn3 is Linux swap,
leaving about 800Mb unallocated.

therefore I don't have access to the requested log files. Where would I
find them, and how?

I REALLY want Ubuntu. IT finds all the hardware etc so much better. So
any guidance would be most welcome.

Chris.

[Bug 226279] Re: Kernel 2.6.24-17 - broken resume from suspend to RAM

2008-06-01 Thread William Grant
I'm similar to the rest: -16 resumes quickly, -17 doesn't, and neither
does -19. However, -19 seems to recover in around one-third of the time
that -17 takes, but I've only performed three trials on the new one.

Blacklisting ehci_hcd doesn't fix it, although both pm_trace and dmesg
point to it being the culprit, as 1d.7 is the only EHCI controller in
the system. Even removing all USB-related modules doesn't help.

[Bug 234804] Re: cannot install Asus Xonar DX on 64-bit

2008-06-01 Thread NickJ
Latest discovery points to a problem with Hardy, not Alsa. My 64bit
Hardy installation is an in situ upgrade from Gutsy and appears to lack
the soundcore module specified as a prerequisite by the Alsa Project.
The 32bit Gutsy install, on which the Xonar is working, does possess the
module. Running apt-get install linux-ubuntu-modules has not solved
this problem.

To downgrade, first you need to download the deb file, in this case from:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/s/sane-backends/
Download at any directory the file libsane_1.0.18-3ubuntu1_i386.deb
Then, in a terminal, move to the directory where the file has been downloaded
and execute:
sudo dpkg -i --force-downgrade libsane_1.0.18-3ubuntu1_i386.deb
Good luck.

[Bug 236697] [NEW] Exception while call SOAP method by ServiceProxy if there is keyword argument "name"

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python-zsi

If your SOAP service has method with one of argument called "name" you
catch exception "TypeError: ... got multiple values for keyword argument
'name'" when call its. Its occurs because of the definition
ServiceProxy._call has "name" argument.

You can got same exception as example:
def soap_method(name, *args, **kwargs):
  pass
soap_method('some value', name='another value') # <-- exception here!!!

Patch attached.

Yes, I still get this with the standalone erc 5.3-1ubuntu1 on emacs22 on

To make the repro steps more effective, one could create an SSH tunnel
from localhost to some remote IRC server -- the SSH crypto is
irrelevant here, the point is just to give you an easy way to establish
a second server, and disconnect and reconnect it at will.

I'm sorry you're having those problems, I would suggest trying a
different Linux distribution, because from my experience, this Flash bug
is Ubuntu-specific because I've never had problems with Flash on any
other distribution even on the same machine. IMHO, this bug is the only
thing keeping Ubuntu from being the absolute best distro.

[Bug 236602] Re: No applications available for photo editing if Gnome is not installed

2008-06-01 Thread Eira Monstad
Sorry for not making this clear: Gimp was already installed as well. As
was Opera and okular, which also showed up as available applications
once I had installed Gnome. These three applications were installed
prior to installing f-spot, but still weren't picked up. I also double-
checked that Gimp's entry in /usr/share/applications/gimp.desktop was
correct, which it was. (AFAIK, that's where f-spot picks up its list of
applications that can handle a given mime-type)

[Bug 42553] Re: wacom input devices enabled by default, why?

2008-06-01 Thread Justin Dugger
There is a package to install to enable it (wacom-tools). It doesn't
munge xorg.conf though, which some users need.

The options I've seen are:
* Require users to write to xorg.conf themselves. Judging from the bugs, this
is somewhere between annoying and outright unacceptable for wacom users, but
does satisfy KDE developers / users.
* Place a pen section commented. This satisfies KDE, but somewhat annoying to
wacom users and obsessive compulsive Xorg developers who'd like to see the end
of xorg.conf in Ubuntu.
* Write a script to rewrite xorg.conf on wacom-postinst. Getting closer, but
requires an xorg restart and annoys the people most likely to write the fix.
This is the approach Vincenzo appears to be promoting with dexconf, despite a
vague recommendation that "dexconf is depricated and old" from #ubuntu-x.
* Proper input hotplugging and wacom autodetection. No more xorg.conf, no more
KDE excrement on bogus xorg.conf entries, no tricky xorg.conf parsers, and no
angry wacom users.

I humbly submit the last one is where the future lies if we intend to
ever fix bug #1. At that point perhaps wacom could be installed by
default, or at least suggested by whatever we call the driver manager
today. I should point out there's a new version of wacom in Debian and
upstream.

I don't get video in small mode, and have no way of expanding it.

I don't have the problem like that, it's impossible to delete the file
when it is been playing, even when I pressed the delete key, the file
isn't deleted, this is because when you move the mouse (even a little
movement) the music will stop to play

I use Audacious 1.5.0 for the default player

[Bug 216406] Re: Whole system freezes often / Hardy beta

2008-06-01 Thread raulih
Still occurs too often when dragging files to copy them eg. from desktop
to a directory in nautilus (at least once in sftp-connection) that whole
system freezes. Restarting X by pressing Ctrl+Backspace required. What
information you need? I have Ubuntu Studio with latest updates. I've had
these problems all the time since installing Hardy beta.

See also bug 235053. This may be ssh/ftp/sftp -bug in nautilus, but im
not sure about that. May have occured when moving local files too.

[Bug 236677] [NEW] Compiz "locks up" when one of the applications menu is open and the application crashes.

2008-06-01 Thread Rav
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

The other day, I had firefox running and my home directory is mounted on
a md raid drive. That day the md drives were syncing and the file read
time was incredibly long. I happened to be right clicking on firefox
when firefox stopped responding. Compiz made it turn gray, but after it
did that, I couldn't click on anything again. The menu that firefox
poped up was not gray only firefox was gray. The display hadnt' crashed
or anything else. The applications in the background were running
smooth. Then after a minute, firefox came back and everything was back
to normal until the next time firefox had to access files from the HD. I
believe it happened with the right click menu and the toolbar menu on
top.

I think compiz is waiting for the program to accept the closure of the
menu, but the program is not responding. The menu has a special
functionality that when it is open, all of the clicks outside of it are
only to close the menu and cant be used for anything else. Thus in this
wait the user cannot interact with her desktop at all. I was lucky
enough that firefox had not actually crashed. I am not sure what would
have happened if it actually did. (I was planning on logging into my
computer from my laptop to kill firefox, but it came back before I had
the chance.)

[Bug 185589] Re: in XFCE cannot unlock user&groups: "could not authenticate. An unexpected error has occurred"

2008-06-01 Thread Daniel Albers
With a fresh install of Hardy, updates added I was able to unlock for
administration tasks. After adding another
admin user, neither I nor the admin user can unlock. Popup says
  Could not authenticate
  An unexpected error has occurred.
A side effect is that navigating from System --> Adminstration, there is no
longer
the option to install applications. This has happened on three Hardy installs.
Fortunately one of the first things I
did after install is change the root password, so that at least I can visudo,
etc.

[Bug 236682] [NEW] garmin_gps.ko assumes you're using usbfs

2008-06-01 Thread Gary
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image

The module garmin_gps.ko incorrectly assumes you're using usbfs. I
found some other posts online confirming this.

Check out:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=642999

and

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232097

The posted work-around of simply mounting usbfs works, but isn't
optimal. As a side note, having this module blacklisted is pretty
confusing for people upgrading from Feisty or Gutsy and then all of the
sudden their GPS stops working...

[Bug 152392] Re: [gutsy/hardy] Kino can't capture video

this patch gives me the option to set the device to /dev/dv1394/0 but
with the camera playback rolling, there is still no capture, even when

$ ls -l /dev/dv1394/0
crw-rw 1 root video 171, 32 2008-06-01 23:42 /dev/dv1394/0

is it possible that the Dell Inspiron's ieee1394 port is somehow non-
standard and unsupported under Linux? it is odd that the device loads
and everything seems fine, but there is just no data flowing. dmesg
simply says

[ 28.348066] ieee1394: Host added: ID:BUS[0-00:1023] GUID[434fc0003bda4981]

2008-06-01 Thread Nick Ellery
Thanks for your bug report, but it is a simple support issue, and can be
solved easily. For that reason, it is being converted to a question,
where you will be able to receive support on fixing this issue. Thanks!

** Summary changed:

- Gaim has no Voice support.
+ Pidgin should support voice and video (audio chat & webcams).

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: gaim

- Just like Yahoo messenger allows people to use Microphone in the Chat

- Even assuming that it is difficult to do the developers could take
- pointers from Yahoo Messenger itself as to how to develop a module in

- will allow the users of Handheld Devices( namely Nokia 770 and Nokia

I'm using ATI graphics restricted driver (maybe it is related to this
maybe not)
