[Bug 44335] Re: IMAP/POP3+SSL/TLS are disabled

2008-06-09 Thread EarloftheWest
Running Hardy Heron

I downloaded the most recent source of mail-notification from:
http://www.nongnu.org/mailnotify/
And followed the Readme to install and it works fine with ssl/tls notification.
I'm very happy.

Being relatively new to compiling, I cheated a bit before I installed by running
sudo apt-get build-dep mail-notification
from the terminal. This installed the dependencies and the compliers (true?) so
I could build and install mail-notification. Had I not run apt-get build-dep
mail-notification, how would I have known what compilers and dependencies were
needed to build and install?

Thanks.

It should be "640", not "740", but that isn't the cause of your
breakage here. Can you please give the output of

  ls -ld /etc/ssl/private

? Maybe the entire directory is only accessible as root.

Doesn't happen on CentOS 5 / RedHat EL 5 (VMware Server 1.0.5).
This might confirm that the problem is indeed related Xorg version (CentOS 5

[Bug 238775] [NEW] Firefox randomly and silently exits

2008-06-09 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I have a Dell XPS M1710 laptop with a pure, up-to-date Hardy 32-bit
installation. When using Firefox it will sometimes silently exit for no
apparent reason, as if it crashed, except that apport is not triggered
and there is no crash file in /var/crash. Upon restarting it I get the
standard "Start New Session / Restore Session" dialog, indicating it was
definitely irregular termination. The bug occurs about once every few
days.

Let me know what I should do to gather more information.

[Bug 236830] Re: cifs does not support kerberos authentication

2008-06-09 Thread Steve Langasek
The CONFIG_CIFS_EXPERIMENTAL enables a number of unrelated features, all
of which should be no-ops by default:

- CIFS ACL mapping
- dnotify support
- "export ops" (stub support for re-exporting via NFS)

and it allows the CIFS_UPCALL option to be enabled.

CIFS_UPCALL only turns on support for kerberos/SPNEGO authentication.

[Bug 238774] [NEW] cryptdisks doesnt start on boot

2008-06-09 Thread feld
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cryptsetup

Cryptdisks doesnt start on boot.

Problem: cryptdisks-early and cryptdisks don't complete successfully

I did some bug hunting and found on boot there was an error showing
twice. This is not verbatim, but it was something like

Error: exec env failed (line 34)

Since they happened twice and these processes run the same script, I
knew it must have been cryptdisks.

The /lib/cryptsetup/cryptdisks.functions file around line 34:

# Always output to console
stdin=`readlink /proc/self/fd/0`
if [ "${stdin#/dev/null}" != "$stdin" ] && [ "$ON_VT" != "yes" ]; then
exec env ON_VT=yes /usr/bin/openvt -f -c `fgconsole` -w $0 "$@"
fi

Commenting the above out allows this to work. I'm not a bash guru; I
don't know what is wrong there. All I know is that running the script
while logged into X completes successfully.

[Bug 210600] Re: Display corruption in VTs on Intel 855GME

2008-06-09 Thread jhansonxi
I stumbled through a build following the X.Org Wiki guidelines here:
http://www.x.org/wiki/Development/git

I'm not sure I did it correctly. I only built xf86-video-intel and I
had problems with the "export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/gfx-test/lib" not
having any effect on which libs X was using. I ended up renaming the
originals and using symlinks to the new ones.

The white lines are gone but now I see either black static (especially
noticeable with Midnight Commander and aptitude) or with subsequent VT
switching I have some text corruption like the scrollbar block in MC.
In xorg.conf I have "ForceEnablePipeA" commented out and now see
"underrun on pipe A" errors in Xorg.0.log. Re-enabling it eliminates
the errors in the log but the other VT problem are still present.

[Bug 238767] Re: [Hardy] Cannot open audio file from Nautilus

2008-06-09 Thread A. Walton
This is actually not a bug in Nautilus.; VLC does not use the GIO/GVFS
system, but accepts cdda:// URIs of a different format (as you yourself
specified). VLC is an edge-case in this situation, as it clearly can
accept URIs in some cases, however not generally. This is probably a bug
/mis-feature in VLC, but they'll have to decide how they want to handle
it (be that have an input module for GIO, or not take VFS URIs from
Nautilus).

There's a subtle, well, miscommunication bug that might exist here. GVFS
claims the cdda scheme which is already in use by so many applications
that it may be disruptive to do so. Upstream is currently considering
renaming this scheme to cddafs to avoid this confusion. See
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=527159 for details.

[Bug 238769] [NEW] File-save dialog crashes host application under openbox

2008-06-09 Thread Eric Montgomery
Public bug reported:

I have found that the two applications I have tested, gedit and firefox,
both crash when attempting to show the File->Save dialog. I run openbox
as my window manager instead of Gnome, which seems to be significant. I
have used the following scenarios to determine as best I can where the
crash is coming from.

Scenario: Log in through GDM into openbox WITHOUT running
gnome-settings-daemon, open gedit and attempt to save a file.
Result: File save dialog works, but looks ugly. It is not themed according to
what I configured in Gnome settings.

Scenario: Log in through GDM into Gnome, open gedit and attempt to save a file.
Result: File save dialog works and looks fine, themed according to my Gnome
settings.

Scenario: Log in through GDM into openbox with gnome-settings-daemon command in
my .xsession file, open gedit and attempt to save a file.
Result: gedit crashes with "Segmentation fault" as the only output to the
console.

This behavior is also happening when using firefox and trying to do a
Save Image As... on an image, which normally brings up the same dialog.

I apologize if this is mis-filed, but I'm not sure how to track down
where this should actually be directed.

[Bug 195929] Re: Cosmetic bug: rectangular white outline surrounding rounded buttons

Reading https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates seems to indicate
that this issue is not serious enough to warrant an SRU. Unless someone
says otherwise, of course ;-)

[Bug 236830] Re: cifs does not support kerberos authentication

2008-06-09 Thread Martin Pitt
 * Kernel change is isolated, that looks reasonably ok. I take it
CONFIG_CIFS_EXPERIMENTAL does not change any behaviour, just enables
CONFIG_CIFS_UPCALL config option? Does CONFIG_CIFS_UPCALL only enables the
userspace callback for authorization (cifs.spnego) or any other behaviour?
 * I wouldn't like to promote keyutils to main in hardy (it sounds fine for MIR
for intrepid, though). Since we have to touch the samba package anyway and
backport cifs.spnego, can this be modified to point out "Please install the
keyutils package" in the error message if it is missing?

[Bug 32389] Re: [upstream] nvidia-glx doesn't restore state on NV35/NV36 cards. Causes random mess on screen or system hang.

2008-06-09 Thread cleersf
Just installed Hardy, and have this issue. It didn't occur until I
enabled the Nvidia restricted drivers. After partially disabling them
(nvidia-glx-new would not uninstall for some reason) I did not get the
mess on my screen, and it shut down correctly. I decided to install a
fresh Hardy system and using EnvyNg this time. The same mess upon
sutdown/restart began to occur on my screen after that install. I'm
running HP dv6448se, Nvidia GeForce Go 6150.

[Bug 218234] Re: [regression] Messed Scre en Hides "Remove CD" Message After Install

2008-06-09 Thread Saïvann Carignan
Thanks for your fast answer, I didn't notice the lspci, I think that
this will be enough since the graphic card is clearly identified. I
added it to the bug description to help developers.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: usplash

After installation, screen is messed and computer seems unresponsive.

  To reproduce
  0) Install Hardy Beta from Live-CD
  Installation proceeds normally to finish.
  1) "Do you want to continue using live-cd or reboot?" Reboot
The bug: Screen is messed. It's full of green stripes and colorful pixels,
looks like random memory contents.
CD is ejected. Computer looks crashed.

Typical user (yes, I tested this with many users earlier) will hard
reset the computer by pressing power button. Users are left unsure if
installation was successful or failed, or if OS is in usable condition.

Messed screen obscures the "Press ENTER to continue" message. Other keys
  don't seem to do anything.

Should be easy to fix, as it works correctly on some earlier versions of
Ubuntu. Also, image is displayed correctly in Hardy Beta on CD-ROM boot
menu (syslinux?), Ubuntu loading (the orange progress indicator) and the
text mode that is shown briefly before Ubuntu loading.

Tested with Hardy Beta Desktop amd64, HP-Compaq dc7700, 19" flat panel.
Details of the Hardy setup used for testing this bug:
  http://www.iki.fi/karvinen/ubuntu_hardy_8.04.html

+ 8086:2992 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82Q963/Q965

[Bug 238767] [NEW] [Hardy] Cannot open audio file from Nautilus

2008-06-09 Thread Sami Lahtinen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I try to open audio file (from audio cd) to Totem or Vlc I got an
error. This same error happens at least in two different platforms.

Totem => "Stream contains no data."

Vlc => "Unable to open 'cdda://scd0/Track%201.wav'"

$ vlc cdda:///scd0/Track%201.wav
VLC media player 0.8.6e Janus
[0292] main input error: no suitable access module for
`cdda:///scd0/Track%201.wav'
[0283] main playlist: nothing to play
signal 2 received, terminating vlc - do it again in case it gets stuck
[0283] main playlist: stopping playback

However, directly opening vlc cdda:///dev/scd0 works fine. Also Rhythmbox can
play these files.

[Bug 238766] [NEW] No DRI with ati radeon X700 and open source ati driver

2008-06-09 Thread Greg Mars
Public bug reported:

I haven't been able to get DRI to work with this card and the ati driver
despite the fact that it's said to be supported.

glxinfo | grep "direct rendering" gives

direct rendering: No (If you want to find out why, try setting
LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose)

LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxinfo gives no additional information (verbose
hint seems to be ignored)

lspci lists two PCI display devices as unknown devices:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Unknown device 5657
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc Unknown device 5677

Xorg.0.log makes so mention of any of these being recognized as an X700 which
is what the card is supposed to contain.
The only thing close is the excerpt below but that corresponds to one of the
above devices and not what I was expecting anyway.

(WW) RADEON: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:1:0:1) found
(--) Chipset ATI Radeon X550XTX (RV370) 5657 (PCIE) found

Then I'm told later in the log that DRI has been disabled and that there are no
DRI capable screens.
The full xorg log is attached.

My bad. That "someone" is Maximilian Attems, and I just realized he
is the Debian maintainer of the klibc package, and he also promptly
uploaded a fix too a few days ago. :-) Thanks to Maximilian's
comment, we got hpa's own fix, which is much better. :-)

Cheers,

[Bug 150073] Re: vnc4server only updates on mouse move

2008-06-09 Thread defihu
I beleive I have the same problem with 4.1.1+xorg1.0.2-0ubuntu7 (Hardy).

If I did not move the mouse or typed anything on the keyboard all I got
is a blank screen.

The situation is the same if I connected to the vncserver locally.

I use x11vnc as a workaround.

There are 'lspci', 'lspci -n' and 'lspci -v'. Do you still need 'sudo

[Bug 235662] Re: [Intrepid] usplash causing bios warnings when not used with quiet

2008-06-09 Thread Saïvann Carignan
Thanks for the verification. If you have time for it, it would be still
appropriate to check the last drive with badblocks. Both new and very
old hard drives are vulnerable to cluster damages. From now on, can you
look if the problem can be reproduced is you remove both "splash" and
"quiet" from the boot line?

It would also be important to know if the BIOS error messages appears
before or after the GRUB menu. If before, this is BIOS error messages,
nothing to do with ubuntu, linux or splash. If this is after GRUB, this
is linux kernel error messages concerning BIOS. "quiet" might only hide
these error messages but not cause them.

Can you also reproduce the problem and provide the files created by
these commands in a terminal?

dmesg < dmesg.log (if you associate some error messages with the outputs you
see while the computer boots, it's a good idea to edit the file to point them)
sudo lspci -nnvv > lspci-nnvv.log
uname -a > uname.log
cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
cat /boot/grub/menu.lst > menu.lst

Re: [Bug 235282] Re: Every second number disappears in (tiny) dmesg output (in initrd.img)

2008-06-09 Thread Anthony Fok
Hello Tim,

Yes, upstream author "hpa" (H. Peter Anvin) happened to be on
#etherboot, and he asked me to post the patch on klibc mailing list:

http://www.zytor.com/pipermail/klibc/2008-May/002288.html

However, someone dislikes the way I wrote it, saying it is "if
speghetti code". (That's kind of how dmesg.c in util-linux does it
though...)

http://www.zytor.com/pipermail/klibc/2008-May/002290.html

And the marvellous hpa promptly came up with something better, an
easier-to-follow "state-machine-like approach":

http://www.zytor.com/pipermail/klibc/2008-May/002289.html

So yes, I'm very happy that hpa is so responsive, and I'm also very
glad that you've already dealt with this issue in Ubuntu too. Many
thanks, Tim and Steve! :-)

Anthony

[Bug 238762] [NEW] zwnj character causes the cursor jump in kde

2008-06-09 Thread Platoali
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kedit

zwnj(SHIFT+SPACE) is zero-width character that is used in Persian(Farsi)
keyboard. It causes two parts of a word do not join together. for example:
می‌رویم
if the zwnj is not used the word would be like this:
میرویم
which is gramatically incorrect.

The problem is that when typing zwnj in kde applications like kate, kedit ,
kwite, kbabel and etc. the cursor will jump from correct position in the text
to another place in the line, which makes editing and selecting nearly
impossible.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.open kedit
2.switch to persian keyboard
3.write something with zwnj(SHIFT+space) between them
4.try to edit or select some part.

Actual Results:
cursor jumps to from current place to another part of the line. which makes
editing text impossible.

Expected Results:
cursor should stay in it place like any other text editors.

This bug exists in almost all of KDE text editing applications.

[Bug 219630] Re: please add "geode" to driver list in hw/xfree86/common/xf86AutoConfig.c

2008-06-09 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
PS: I forgot to mention that the way Debian and Ubuntu handle PCI ID
matching seems to differ from upstream's intended method in some ways.
Since finding out about this, I have produced two proposed fixes, both
sitting in my PPA:

1) an updated -geode package that uses the Debian/Ubuntu-specific
method. This package also moves the backward-compatibility symbolic
links to the -amd transitional package, because they were found to cause
more hard than good, but might still be useful to people initially
upgrading from earlier Ubuntu releases that offered -amd.

2) an updated -nsc package that removes some PCI ID that conflict with
the -cyrix and -geode packages.

If accepted by the SRU team, I would propose that both be uploaded
together into hardy-proposed and released with hardy.1 ASAP.

2008-06-09 Thread Dereck Wonnacott
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
does not yet have enough information.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already
done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the
Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version

[Bug 235679] Re: Asks for same password twice

2008-06-09 Thread emulator
Let's just skip the geekspeak. Unbuntu 8.04 simply will not boot passwords. I
have uninstalled and reinstalled.
I have no more time to waste on this. It does not matter if terminal or normal
login mode is used, UBUNTU 8.04
simply does not allow log-ins. This is Betaware, or maybe even Malware. 7.10
never had these problems.
8.04 is garbageware.

[Bug 236417] Re: file permissions resets after restart

2008-06-09 Thread Dereck Wonnacott
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively" [WWW]
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW]
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!
