Same here:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.

Ok, first of all, don't change the status of your own bug report, ok?
Second of all, what you want is about:blank. Set your homepage to about:blank
and you're set.
Third of all, this was not a bug report, so for similar questions in the future
you can turn to the ubuntuforums instead. A bug is something the software
claims to do but doesn't do.
Please feel free to report any bug reports you come across in the future.

Re: [Bug 240519] Re: sybase_* functions missing in php5-sybase for hardy

2008-06-18 Thread Ondřej Surý
Well,

you solution is working, but wrong one. The real reason why sybase module
installs mssql.so is they are really (almost) the same - they use same
library to access database. With one small exception - mssql module is
better maintained and provides pdo version, and works better in some cases.
That was reason to do the switch in Debian.

I am not really sure why Steve didn't provide aliases from sybase to mssql
function, but my patch should ensure it. I'll commit it into Debian svn and
it will propage into next version of Ubuntu as well.

Ondrej.

2008/6/18 Paul McLanahan [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

 Solution:

Ok... so I installed the php5 source package

 apt-get source php5

I decided to just give the extension in ext/sybase a try before applying
 any patches.

 cd ext/sybase
phpize configure make sudo make install

After that it was a simple matter of adding a sybase.ini file to
 /etc/php5/conf.d with the contents

 extension=sybase.so

I then restarted apache2 and it works :)

I'm still a bit confused as to why the php5-sybase package installs the
mssql.so module, and the php5-mssql package is a virtual for
php5-sybase. But it is working for me now, and hopefully the people who
need this info can find it here.

Thanks again for the help Ondřej and Chuck!

 Paul

[Bug 220463] Re: unable to boot linux vm's that are not Debian derived.

2008-06-18 Thread Jason Gerard DeRose
After more investigation, it seems the bug is in neither with kvm nor
vgabios. The problem seems to be with the way libvirt is invoking
kvm/qemu.

Trying to install Fedora 9 onto a VM using virt-install results in the
Attempted DOS System Call error, but I can manually create the VM
without virt-install and the installer works fine.

Manual Steps:

1. I created the disk image:

  qemu-img create fedora.img 2G

2. I booted the ISO using kvm directly:

  kvm -cdrom Fedora-9-i386-disc1.iso -boot d fedora.img

In case the problem was with virt-install and not libvirt, I tried
modifying the XML defining my fedora VM manually so it booting from the
ISO... and again, same Attempted DOS System Call error, which again
suggest the bug is in libvirt.

The sf bug #1977971 regarding kvm makes it clear that this is not really
a bug but an issue of incorrect invocation. Perhaps a workaround will be
added to kvm, but libvirt should be fixed to invoke it correctly.

[Bug 195982] Re: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare

2008-06-18 Thread Ronny Ager-Wick
van_Zeller, set up a desktop shortcut to setxkbmap.
In Gnome, right-click the desktop and select Create launcher
In KDE, right-click the desktop and select Create new - Link to application
Then when you have the problem, just select an empty desktop (assuming you have
more than one and leave at lease one empty) and click your setxkbmap icon.

[Bug 153660] Re: mc package should list dbview package in Suggests - it's needed for viewing dbf files

2008-06-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package mc - 2:4.6.2~git20080311-1ubuntu1

---
mc (2:4.6.2~git20080311-1ubuntu1) intrepid; urgency=low

  * Sync from Debian, all previous Ubuntu changes have been accepted
by upstream and/or Debian.
- Fixes at least: LP: #53095
  * debian/control: Suggest dbview (LP: #153660).
Forwarded to Debian #486915.
  * Modify Maintainer value to match the DebianMaintainerField
specification.

mc (2:4.6.2~git20080311-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Have to bump from 1: to 2: ... ~git is lower than ~pre
  * New git snapshot from (http://repo.or.cz/w/mc.git) in order to have
some new patches included into mc and to ease up patch writing.
  * Reordered patches and use now quilt for applying them.
+ Add several new patches from mandriva
  * Removed samba support, since it was based on a statically linked lib,
which is shipped within the sourcecode. This lib was over 10 years
untouched.
(Closes: #451964, #432324)
+ By the way... a patch for the samba issue would be nice!!
  * Switched to the utf8-patches used in mandriva (Closes: #359016)
  * Added asm.syntax. Thanks to Michelle (Closes: #479550)
  * Added vhdl.syntax. Thanks to Adam Pribyl. (Closes: #481539)

  * Fixed a memory allocation problem in 61_escaping.patch (Closes: #469574)

mc (1:4.6.2~pre1-6) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Same reason as last upload for urgency=medium. The last version doesn't
made it into testing.
  * Fix abort of mc while copying files. (Closes: #425192)
+ modified 61_escaping.patch
  * Fix coredump on weired filenames (Closes: #469075)
+ modified 61_escaping.patch
  * Fix error of run-mailcap because of wrong syntax. (Closes: #468894)

+ 12_main.c.patch
+ 30_recode.patch
They both doesn't work with these utf8-patches atm.

mc (1:4.6.2~pre1-3) unstable; urgency=low

I should be more descriptive than that. Entering xdg-open into the
alternative browser does nothing, so I suspect they've hard coded this
into the bug reporter. Maybe someone should enter this in upstream with
amarok? It seems like this would affect any installation where Amarok is
installed independently of KDE.

open or issue commands that dont' generate much data (like just ls) connection
stays healthy.
It is not VPN server problem (checked with other computers) nor a ssh or
http problem (also checked).

I am using default options which pptp plugin offers (worked in 7.10). I

[Bug 241109] [NEW] udev races with snaphots?

2008-06-18 Thread Juergen Kreileder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lvm2

Current dual-core amd64 hardy system:
# dpkg -l lvm2 dmsetup | grep ^ii
ii dmsetup 2:1.02.20-2ubuntu2 The Linux
Kernel Device Mapper userspace library
ii lvm2 2.02.26-1ubuntu9The Linux
Logical Volume Manager

The system makes 10 LVM snaphots for backups every other hour. Occasionally I
get messages like these in the syslog:

Jun 7 10:23:40 new kernel: [3666376.279740] device-mapper: ioctl: unable to
remove open device linux-srv_mysql-real
...
Jun 13 02:23:35 new udevd-event[24254]: unlink_secure:
chmod(/dev/mapper/linux-backup_var_spool-cow, ) failed: No such file or
directory
...

Jun 17 00:23:44 new udevd-event[12412]: unlink_secure:
chmod(/dev/mapper/linux-backup_srv_mysql-cow, ) failed: No such file or
directory

The messages *seem* to be harmless. Snapshot creation, mounting,
unmounting, deletion seem to work okay and the backups were fine so far.
But we are talking about backups, even a bogus error message means that
I have to check the backups each time this happens.

The problem shows up both with vanilla and Ubuntu kernels.

Can you test the package from the branch attached to this bug report?
I think rzr prepared a test package in his PPA archive. Get the .deb's

[Bug 226801] Re: Totem Mp3 Seek

2008-06-18 Thread Mike Auty
In case anyone is still encountering this problem, I've also recently
run into it. I still haven't determined what causes the problem, but my
guess would be it chooses some unusual plugin that can decode mp3 but
can't handle seeking, rather than a more common one that can do both.
I've specifically noticed, it seems only to do it to some mp3 files
(those that file identifies as 'RIFF (little-endian) data, WAVE audio,
MPEG Layer 3'). File incorrectly identifies a lot of my other mp3s as
data or correctly as 'Audio File ... with MP3 encoding', and these totem
doesn't seem to have a problem with. I hope that helps in some way...

[Bug 222602] Re: OpenOffice.org 2.4 doesn't pass printer-specific arguments to printer driver

2008-06-18 Thread FriedChicken
I've tried this on several Systems including Dapper Drake with OOo 2.0.
Every tested version of OOo has this problem but neither KDE- nor
Gnome-applications.

Normally the printer options should be forwarded to the cups filter (specified
in the PPD file) as arg $5. But OOo doesn't do this. So this problem only
affects printer who need a cups filter.
I'll attach one of the tested PPDs.

[Bug 174191] Re: screensavers cause high CPU usage

2008-06-18 Thread Tormod Volden
This method is pretty real world, but it will cycle through the savers
at random so you need to let it run a long time before you have covered
all the savers. First choose Random in the Screensaver preference.
Then run this and do not touch the computer:

gnome-screensaver-command --activate; while sleep 30; do ps ux --no-
header | head -1  saver.log; gnome-screensaver-command --activate;
gnome-screensaver-command --cycle; done
