[Bug 254877] [NEW] Konqueror, Dolphin ACL bug.

2008-08-04 Thread Heretic
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: konqueror

There's a folder with files having ACL permissions. While copying into
an other folder with acl permissions, only folder permissions are
inherited. I've tried Dolphin and Konqueror, neither of them work, but
mc works fine.

For example:
the folder "exhibition" has the following permissions:
user::rwx
group::rwx
group:10004:rwx
mask::rwx
other::---
default:user::rwx
default:group::rwx
default:group:10004:rwx
default:mask::rwx
default:other::---

While copying the folder in a folder with acl permissions
user:: rwx
group:: rwx
group: 10004: rwx
mask:: rwx
other ::---
default: user:: rwx
default: group:: rwx
default: group: 10004: rwx
default: mask:: rwx
default: other ::---

the folder acquires these permissions, but files do not.
after creating the folder "permissions" and copying files into it, they acquire
permissions

[Bug 254871] Re: No Sound

2008-08-04 Thread CaptGeorge
** Description changed:

  Sorry for the lack of info, but I'm a newbie on Ubuntu and Linux. I'm
  using a Dell Dimension 8300 with a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card.
  The card works just fine under Windows XP Pro, but I get no sound in
  Ubuntu.
+
+ SOLVED
+ Thanks for your fine list of problems (bugs) solved. I found the solution in
them. Although I'm new to linux and Ubuntu, I've been programming and using
computers since 1966, so all I really needed was a little direction.
Apparently my Dell 8300 has two audio cards - one on board & the SB Audigy2.
For some reason, Ubuntu recognized both cards but didn't configure either or
pick one as default. I was able to follow instructions in other thread to
disable onboard sound in bios and also set SB as default.
+
+ Thanks again,
+ George

[Bug 109434] Re: Installing a server for a game automatically auto-inits and runs every boot.

2008-08-04 Thread Pauli
I think wesnoth-server shouldn't start wesnothd server automatically at
statup. Why so?

Wesnoth client will require wesnothd to be present for some
functionality in 1.6 and is already requiring wesnothd in 1.5
development versions. This is only for minor lan game feature.

Solution that I would think of is that wesnothd binary can be installed using
package wesnoth-server which doesn't make it auto start.
If someone wants to host MP server that starts always that would be provided by
wesnoth-mp-server package. mp-server package would depend on wesnoth-server and
only install configurations to run wesnothd at start up.

[Bug 254868] [NEW] intrepid alpha3: xserver fails to start, keyboard and mous does not function,

2008-08-04 Thread bvidinli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core

I use Ubuntu desktop 8.10 intrepid alpha3 on my ibm lenovo desktop.
Today (3008, August, 05) i upgraded my ubuntu with aptitude upgrade,
rebooted, my xwindow come-up, with screen "ubuntu is running in low graphics
mode", but keyboard and mouse does not function. Previously, i was able to
continue by clicking "continue" button. Now, keyb-mouse does not work normal
way, for example, i cannot click continue by keyb.
.. i can switch to console by ctrl-alt-f1

the last package that i installed: xserver-xorg-
core_2%3a1.4.99.906-1ubuntu1_i386.deb

so, in console, i switched back to previous version,
xserver-xorg-core_2%3a1.4.99.905-0ubuntu5_i386.deb
now, i can use keyb-mouse, i can login...
my kernel is: 2.6.26-5-generic

For me, it is difficult to give-out more information about xserver-xorg-
core package that caused the malfunction, since i replaced it with a
previous version, and i need to use my computer, i opened this bug for
your info i wrote these from another computer,

hope you success in ubuntu..

[Bug 233849] Re: rsync doesn't delete deleted files

2008-08-04 Thread undecidable
I should add, it is not a problem with rsync.
The problem is that .gvfs is (apparently) not behaving like a normal dir.
It does not say it is a link, but rsync seems to treat it like a lnk.
Assuming it stands for gnome virtual file system,
this is to be expected.

[Bug 254864] [NEW] nvidia-glx-new in hardy-proposed gives wrong video modes and refresh rates

2008-08-04 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-20-386

If I use the nvidia-glx-new driver package currently in hardy-proposed
(version 169.12+2.6.24.14-20.46) ddc information is somewhat reported
incorrectly, and I can set only resolutions up-to 1024x768 with low
refresh rates. Using the previous driver in hardy-updates (version
169.12+2.6.24.13-19.45), I had my 1600x1200 at 85hz.

A workaround is to use nvidia-settings to configure the resolution.
Nvidia-settings recognises ddc information correctly. I attach the two
log files (using the old and new display driver), the xorg.conf that was
generated by ubuntu, and the new one I wrote using nvidia-settings. I
also attach my lspci -vvvn, and the output from "sudo ddcprobe" which
seems to indicate a problem.

is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW]
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in samba.

No, it's a patch that makes rubygems work better on systems with
update-alternatives, while you should aim at a global solution instead.

I won't be the one making the final decision on this, but for this patch
to be added to the package, I would either want:
(a) that the patch is very, very small
(b) or that the patch is going to be integrated upstream in the near future

What do you mean with "default rubygems package"?

If you could avoid words like "crippled" in this discussion, it would
help *a lot* and wouldn't make me consider unsubscribing from this bug.

[Bug 254863] [NEW] Rendering select tag on page refresh

2008-08-04 Thread Niranjan Paranjape
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Firefox 3.0.1 exhibited an abnormal behavior while rendering a select
tag on page refresh.

I have a page with following select tag

First
Second

I changed selected option to "Second" and refreshed the page. The
response sent the same select as above.

Though it was expected that option First would be selected, it didn't.

Browser caching is turned off. This works as expected on Firefox 2 and
Safari

[Bug 233849] Re: rsync doesn't delete deleted files

2008-08-04 Thread undecidable
It is a problem.

The workaround is to have an exclude file with the line:
- .gvfs

Funnily,
- .gvfs/
did not work. Maybe it is not really a dir?

The solution above would also work with amended grammar. I think the format
for an exclude should be:
--exclude="- .gvfs"
or for just one home dir:
--exclude="- /home/david/.gvfs"
though I did not test it.

An exclude file is usually better so you don't send across the Trash as
well.

[Bug 249195] Re: Please apply supertux-0.3.1-gcc43.patch from Fedora

2008-08-04 Thread Daniel Holbach
I personally prefer a patch system too (if it's a packaging that I did
myself and it's not a project that lives completely in bzr), but in this
case it's a package we inherit from Debian. We had complaints from
Debian developers before when the diff on merges.u.c they were looking
at comprised not only of changes that were necessary, but also changes
to the packaging. I'm not going to stop you from doing this, I'd just
say: stick to whatever the Debian package does too.

[Bug 254272] Re: Still uses multiuser argument to dh_installinit

2008-08-04 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi Devid,

The patch you've provided looks correct on its own; but perhaps we
should merge the new version from Debian at the same time? There have
been two NMUs to fix an undeclared package conflict, which seems like
another fix we should have. Would you be willing to prepare a merge for
this?

Also, as James notes, the patch should be forwarded upstream to Debian.
Will you take care of this?

95569) due to a problem in frequency scaling reported and confirmed long time
ago but still unsolved. A workaround is to set the frequency governor in the
"conservative" state. This may slow your computer a bit but it is better than
rebooting every now and them.
For changing this, go to a terminal and type gconf-editor
Open apps -> gnome-power-manager -> cpufreq
and set policy_ac and policy_battery items to "conservative" (I think that
"performance" also works and is faster for a desktop, probably too
power-consuming for a laptop).
Good luck.

[Bug 254853] [NEW] Resume from suspend fails with Bios Key, works with menu.

2008-08-04 Thread Jonas Bergler
Public bug reported:

I have a Thinkpad T61. I installed gutsy where suspend worked
flawlessly. I upgraded to Intrepid and now the following occurs.

Suspend-to-RAM from the laptop-battery-icon menu works as it should,
well almost. The machine sleeps but it takes a bit longer than it did in
gutsy. On resume a large (maybe 50ish px wide) underscore character
flashes a few times in the top left and then the X session resumes.
Sometimes the machine also decides to beep.

Suspend-to-RAM using the bios key suspends pretty quickly as it should,
but on result the graphics card doesn't seem to initialize properly.
Network looks like it comes back up although I haven't tried logging in
remotely.

[Bug 236422] Re: sansa mp3 players not mounted when plugged in

2008-08-04 Thread highfructose327
I have a similar issue with my Sansa fuze on Ubuntu 8.04 it does not
mount automatically. I can either unplug it and plug it back in quickly
and it will mount ,or run modprobe -r ehci_hcd and then modprobe
ehci_hcd and it will mount the Sansa . If I only run modprobe -r
ehci_hcd in Ubuntu 8.04 the Sansa will be automatically mounted upon
plugging it in, but; of course the transfer speeds are slow by removing
ehci_hcd. This is the only player that I tried that gives me this
problem in 8.04, it will recognize a Cowon iaudio and a ipod no problem.
I tried mounting the Sansa using Ubuntu 7.10 it mounted no problem.

 I have attached the output of dmesg and below is the output of lsub with
ehci_hcd  loaded in 8.04 kernel
 Linux-2.6.24-19-generic
