[Bug 255400] [NEW] cant see background color change button in system monitor

2008-08-06 Thread ivan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

I just installed Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy and I'm not new to the system. I'm an
experienced user. In the graphs tab of the gnome system monitor's
preferences there should be a button "Change background color of
graphs", but there is nothing. Can somebody please help me.

Thanks in advance,
Ivan

[Bug 109727] Re: xscan not connecting with scanner and crashing

2008-08-06 Thread Hew McLachlan
Aswarp: this is a closed bug report, and a report on xsane (not kooka).
Also, you should never be running these programs as root (eg. using
kdesu and sudo).

I do not have experience with kooka (plus it looks like it has now been
dropped due to lack of development). If you want to try with xsane, you
need to backup/remove your ~/.sane directory as this is likely to be
crippled by permission issues.

Again, this report has been closed, and it is unlikely that you are
experiencing the same issue (this was reported with an old version of
xsane). If you genuinely believe you have encountered a new bug, please
open a separate report for it. Thanks.

[Bug 175689] Re: "Share Folder" in right-click menu does not share ntfs drive folders

2008-08-06 Thread Josh Smith
this bug report is confusing several issues into one, and the initial
poster mixed up uid and umask in a confusing way.

to summarise:
1)have uid of your user means you can share the folder without having to edit
/etc/samba/smb.conf (or you could just share it running nautilus in root ie
gksu nautilus).
2)having umask of 000 means computers on the network can actually access the
share (the dialog about automatically changing permissions does not work as
ntfs/vfat doesnt support individual file permissions, so if it wants to change
permissions it has got to edit /etc/fstab which it doesnt know how to do).

i made a new bug report bug #255391, which pulls out one of the issues
(the umask one) which at least endolith seems to be suffering from. this
might be more useful

[Bug 249296] Re: Reboot fails after resuming from STR

2008-08-06 Thread Stefan Bader
The parts required from the Linux kernel are:
- The ability to use the ACPI method for reboots
(4d3870431d17346c4fdd80e087b7d76f1b5941d5 upstream
  but not, yet, in Intrepid)
- The ability to whitelist certain hardware for ACPI reboot, even if that
hardware doesn't claim this correctly.
Has been introduced in a bug report

[Bug 255393] [NEW] liferea occasionally crashes when closing a tab

2008-08-06 Thread Stephen Carter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: liferea

I have found that liferea semi-consistently crashes when closing a tab.
It doesn't happen every time I close a tab, but it only happens when I
close a tab, and it happens frequently enough to occur once a day while
I'm reading my RSS feeds. So, as the website suggests, I ran liferea
with the --debug-all option, and then used it until it crashed. I've
attached the console output. I can also do this again and provide a
backtrace if needed, or upload my .liferea folder in a zip file.

Oh and I'm using Ubuntu Hardy Heron, and Liferea 1.4.14.

[Bug 255376] Re: Brasero always crashes with X Window System error when I add a file to a data project

2008-08-06 Thread kbit
a) The exact same error occurs when using metacity without compiz

b) On the same machine, but with a different account (A not new but
rarely used guest account. Therefore settings-wise, it's pretty fresh),
the error does *not* occur.

[Bug 255391] [NEW] nautilus-share shared ntfs/vfat folders cant be read over samba as ntfs/vfat fstab is umask=007

2008-08-06 Thread Josh Smith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-share

by default ntfs drives are in /etc/fstab with umask=007

this gives no read, no write, no execute permission to "others"

this means LAN computers trying to access files off your computer
through samba cant read them, because they dont have permission

the folder gets shared (ignoring the couple of problems, ie you have to
log out/in, and you have to add "usershare owner only = False" to the
global section of smb.conf, or run nautilus with gksu) but then the
files cant be read by another computer

solution: by default, ntfs drives entries in /etc/fstab should have
umask=000. they are shared drives with no concept of permissions. they
should be completely open by default. samba itself can then control what
specific permissions LAN computers have on the files on these drives

[Bug 18361] Re: Odd selection launchers/menu

2008-08-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-panel - 1:2.23.6-0ubuntu1

---
gnome-panel (1:2.23.6-0ubuntu1) intrepid; urgency=low

  * New upstream version:
Panel
- Fix assertion in multiscreen code
- Use GtkMountOperation instead of custom code
- Lots of code cleanup
- Use GIO to open URI, including mounting volumes if required
- Improve use of GIO to open recent documents, including startup
  notification
- Do not show lock/logout/shutdown in the menus if those items are
  locked down
- Fix cosmetic issue when opening the menu where launchers or applets
got the focus drawn (lp: #18361)
- Fix compilation on OS where MAXNAMLEN is not defined
- Change behavior of struts for auto-hiding panels: the strut is live
updated and matches what is shown of the panel. This means the size
of a fullscreen window changes when the panel gets hidden/unhidden
Misc
- Require GTK+ 2.13.1
- Explicitly require gio-unix-2.0
- Require libgweather 2.23.6
Clock Applet
- Use new GWeatherLocationEntry and GWeatherTimezoneMenu widgets to
  select location/timezone
  * debian/control.in:
- updated libgtk and libgweather requirements
  * debian/patches/80_disable_movement_option.patch:
- add a menu item to disable the posibility to dnd gnome-panels which can
be confusing for users, thanks Vincent Untz (lp: #250862)

[Bug 109727] Re: xscan not connecting with scanner and crashing

2008-08-06 Thread Aswarp
I first have this problem (Kooka not detecting mi Epson 1250 USB scanner) on
KUbuntu 8.04. However, my system does correctly detect a Pinnacle Studio PCTV
card.
Then I read some thread about running it as "kdesu kooka" and it started
working for some time. After that I reinstalled KUbuntu but this time to
version 8.04.1 and having separated my "/home" folder onto a different a
partition.
And now kooka does again not detect the scanner even if I run as "kdesu kooka"
or "sudo kooka" from the command line.
I tried to reinstall Xsane and Kooka from Synaptic but this didn't work. Oh,
and by the way I observed that when package reinstallation has finished,
Synaptic window wouldn't close (I had to xkill it).
Now, when I run "kdesu kooka" I get a message telling that "dcopserver is not
running" before Kooka opens up.
Typing "sudo scanimage -L" throws the following output
"
device `v4l:/dev/video0' is a Noname BT878 video (Pinnacle PCTV Stud virtual
device
"
(last line from "device" is blank).
What can I do?
Apart from scanning within Vista, you know...

[Bug 255385] [NEW] [needs-packaging] indonesian-fonts and scim-table-indonesian

2008-08-06 Thread Muhammad Takdir
Public bug reported:

>From : http://code.google.com/p/aksara-nusantara/

This package has been use in BlankOn. http://www.blankonlinux.or.id.
BlankOn made by ubuntu indonesia (ubuntu-id). This distribution derived
from ubuntu. and I think it's much better if that packages exist in
ubuntu repository so people can install it too in their ubuntu box.

i already upload into revu,

indonesian-fonts :
http://revu.ubuntuwire.com/details.py?package=indonesian-fonts
scim-tables-indonesian :

Re: [Bug 247867] Re: Please merge Torbutton 1.2.0~rc5-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2008-08-06 Thread Sveinung
I have made a try here. I also changed the changelog to be more
readable, reflect what was removed and to give you credit since your
name would not appear in the "Changed by" line.

Please note that I have never merged a package from Debian to Ubuntu
(and included old Ubuntu changes) before, so it might be a good idea
to check it more than usual. When that is said it appears to be
Lintian clean, I was able to build it under Intrepid and when I tested
it on check.torproject.net (in hardy) it worked.

[Bug 255384] [NEW] Plasma sometimes shows widget manipulation bar when widgets are locked

2008-08-06 Thread Andre Somers

Binary package hint: kdelibs5

Plasma in KDE 4 has the ability to lock widgets. This should also
prevent the bar what makes moving possible and that contains buttons for

often with the analog clock widget, but also on other widgets. I can not

[Bug 248891] Re: [kde4 ppa] broken init script

2008-08-06 Thread Marius Groeger
I can confirm the issue on Hardy as well. In fact, given the line

  KDMRC=/usr/lib/kde4/etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc

as hinted by the OP and this:

  $ dpkg -L kdm-kde4 |grep kdmrc
  /usr/lib/kde4/share/doc/kde4/HTML/en/kdm/kdmrc-ref.docbook
  /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc

seems to make it quite obvious that something's fishy. I don't know
whether the installation procedure is supposed to copy kdmrc around or
to create some fancy symlinks, but like that it won't work.

[Bug 197132] Re: Corewars should recommend nedit

2008-08-06 Thread James Westby
Hi tisek,

You're change is almost there, but there's something I missed the first
time around.

Where you have put "Suggests" now it applies to the "Source" part of
the control file, however, it's not valid to have a suggests there, and
even if it was it probably wouldn't be what you wanted.

After the empty line is a "Binary" section, which correponds to the
package that is built and installed by users. This is where the "Suggests"
line needs to go, as that is the package that you want to declare
the relationship with nedit.

Thanks,

James

[Bug 255378] [NEW] USA Dvorak keyboard layout does not remap control keys

2008-08-06 Thread Tommy McGuire
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Ubuntu 8.04.1 (currently up to date)

System > Preferences > Keyboard > Layouts > USA Dvorak

The control key mapping does not appear to be updated; i.e. after
selecting USA Dvorak, the "i" key types "c" correctly, but with the
Control key it inserts a tab (Ctrl-I) instead of a Ctrl-c.

Using "setxkbmap dvorak" from a terminal command line maps the keys
correctly. (Control + "i" generates Ctrl-C.)

I believe the problem is in the package gnome-control-center

Anyway, even deselected, K9 reads them as they must me addressed in the "main
menu".
This could be understandable with the option "keep original menu", but the same
occurs when "keep original menu" is not selected.

And of course, there are read errors on these titles 19 and 20.
Fortunately, recovery from these error are fast.

Then K9 copies all titles.
When it comes to title 1, the information in size are different from Title 1
(bold) and Title 1 (not bold).
And there come read errors that would take hours to recover (so I stopped the
process)

I tried backup only title 1.
Here appears another error, K9 uses the size calculated under Title 1-not-bold
and wants to apply a compression factor of 8654 !!!
Of course I changed it to factor 1 (as I reserved enough space to do a full
backup).
But then come read errors again.

Last test I switched off "Fast Scan".
When you ask K9 to read the DVD, it then scans the 20 titles, but fails with
"read error" on title 19 and so nothing is displayed on the DVD structure
window and you cannot copy anything.

For information this mastering is really very tricky :
- It fails to rip under windows "rippers" such as : DVDDecypter, Magic
DVDripper, DVD Fab Platinum => too many read error.
- Under VLC Windows, if you play DVDsimple, there is a fake Columbia sequence
at position 0 sec, it lasts for 15sec and VLC stops.
If you play it regular DVD, title 1 chapter 1, it will start at offset 54 sec
with the "real" Columbia sequence, but then fail after a few chapters.
- VLC Ubuntu does not play this DVD at all : VLC closes directly with no error
message.

I managed to play it with Dell Media Direct (a small XP with some sort of
"Media Player")... so I've seen the rented movie now and these bugs in K9 are
not a problem if I cannot rip it, because now I don't need to rip it anymore ;-)
But I wanted to report that anyway.

Unfortunately it happens with the "Rental" version of the DVD (very
expensive if you want to buy it for test... unless you are able to rent
it, I rent mines at 1€ through the company where I work). I don't know
if the retail version has the same intricate mastering.

2008-08-06 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Thanks in advance.

2008-08-06 Thread BUGabundo
Dovecot now starts and is working.

but since I got that error/warning
"update-rc.d: warning: multiuser is deprecated; specify runlevels manually"
maybe someone should take a look at it!

[Bug 254360] Re: /lib/udev/cdrom_id is missing in initramfs

2008-08-06 Thread steven_shiau
Actually it's live-initramfs (http://packages.debian.org/live-initramfs) from
Debian live need this. I use live-initramfs to create a Ubuntu live, but when
this ubuntu live boots, the live-initramfs will use /lib/udev/cdrom_id to
detect the cdrom and map /dev/cdrom... something like that.
Thanks.
