[Bug 155947] Re: libnss-ldap: calls to initgroups() causes boot to hang when using 'bind_policy hard'

2008-08-28 Thread Kevin Waddell
Is there a fix for this for 7.10? When the LDAP server is down, it hangs
on klog etc. I have bind_policy soft set and it still hangs. Adding
nss_initgroups_ignoreusers to my ldap.conf seems to be a workaround.

2008-08-28 Thread Stefan Lesicnik
Thanks Theirry,

I dont think this is worth the SRU as it causes no major problems and
shouldnt happen under normal circumstances. To correct the problem - the
user can just

touch /etc/nagios2/apache2.conf

and the purge will complete.

2008-08-28 Thread Thierry Carrez
I agree with you. This is more a bug in a corner case that normal use
shouldn't hit, with an easy workaround, so it's probably not worthy of
an SRU. I'm closing it as Won't Fix, anyone wishing to try to push it
through SRU : feel free to reopen it.

[Bug 262264] [NEW] Fails to join a domain: Unknown pam configuration

2008-08-28 Thread Thierry Carrez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: likewise-open

Using the new likewise-open 4.1.0.2956-0ubuntu1 on intrepid, trying to
join a domain results in :

---
Joining to AD Domain: test-ad.company.com
With Computer DNS Name: intrepid-test.test-ad.company.com

Error: Unknown pam configuration [code 0x00080035]

The likewise PAM module cannot be configured for the login service. Either this
service is unprotected (does not require a valid password for access), or it is
using a pam module that this program is unfamiliar with. Please email Likewise
technical support and include a copy of /etc/pam.conf or /etc/pam.d.
---

Recent PAM updates in intrepid resulted in a PAM configuration that
likewise-open doesn't know how to manipulate. Likewise-open needs to be
modified to be able to handle the new format, or to make use of the new
PAM-file-updating-tools that were released for Intrepid.

Note that this will also affect the previous version of Likewise-Open,
as it is more an incompatibility between likewise-open and the new PAM
packages than a specific problem in 4.1.0.2956.

[Bug 262291] Re: hardy: update samba to 3.0.32

2008-08-28 Thread jmedina
And most important, that but is about samba 3.2.x

==
== Subject: Wrong permissions of group_mapping.ldb
==
== CVE ID#: CVE-2008-3789
==
== Versions:Samba 3.2.0 - 3.2.2 (inclusive)

and I dont think 3.2 will be in hardy because 3.2 has a new licence, this needs
extra work, and I think 3.0.28 it is enough.
I think this bug can be closed, isn't it, because it doesnt apply to samba

dn:
supportedSASLMechanisms: LOGIN
supportedSASLMechanisms: PLAIN
supportedSASLMechanisms: DIGEST-MD5
supportedSASLMechanisms: NTLM
supportedSASLMechanisms: CRAM-MD5
supportedSASLMechanisms: EXTERNAL

I've used the following options in slapd.conf:

TLSCACertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/cacert.pem
TLSCertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/t-sasl.vmnet.pem
TLSCertificateKeyFile /etc/ssl/private/t-sasl.vmnet.key
TLSVerifyClient demand

and the following options in .ldaprc:

TLS_CACERT /etc/ssl/certs/cacert.pem
TLS_CERT /home/mathiaz/t-client.vmnet.pem
TLS_KEY /home/mathiaz/t-client.vmnet.key

I've use a properly PKI to create the certificates:

cacert.pem is a self-signed certifcate. t-sasl.vmnet.pem and
t-client.vmnet.pem are certificate signed by cacert.pem.

Using a self-signed certificate on the client won't work (ldapsearch
doesn't send self-signed certificates).

[Bug 84782] Re: slow samba transfer speed to/from windows machines

2008-08-28 Thread Chris
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 46081 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/46081

I too am having the same issues. 1 computer running Ubuntu Server 8.04,
with ubuntu-desktop installed over top for gui purposes, and one running
xp SP2.

On the Ubuntu machines, I can get speeds of 1.6-1.8 MEGABYTES down from
the internet..

But transffering files from Ubuntu to Windows, or vice versa, I'm
getting around 350KILOBYTES if I'm lucky. I've tried every combination
of socket options that I could think of, and have seen no increase in
speed. I'm using the onboard RTL8100C nic..

I checked out my samba logs a bunch, and see this: [2008/08/28 22:15:53, 0]
auth/auth_util.c:create_builtin_users(758)
  create_builtin_users: Failed to create Users

A bunch of times, but it does not appear to effect my ability to connect
to and browse my windows machines..

If anyone has made any progress on this, I'd love to know.

Something interesting to note:

I was playing around with virtual box, and couldn't get the builtin
drive sharing to work with a windows xp guest operating system, so I
mounted my share in windows using samba..and on the SAME computer, I was
experiencing the dismal speeds that I see going from my Ubuntu machine
to my external windows machine. When I did get the virtual box drive
sharing working again, speeds increased drastically. Something that was
going to take 35 minutes to transfer took 2.

* you are correct that I am experiencing the same thing as you: total

like you're saying the problem is fixed, and the old workaround
doesn't break the fix. Is that right? If so, that would indeed be
  good news.

* Unfortunately IIUC Intrepid will be based on 2.6.26.2

[Bug 261962] Re: Please sync twiki 4.1.2-4 from Debian(Unstable)

2008-08-28 Thread Daniel Holbach
What about these changes

twiki (1:4.1.2-3.2ubuntu1) intrepid; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian Unstable (LP: #182415), remaining Ubuntu changes:
- Add a horrible hack to try and detect if htpasswd supports -b.
- Prefer apache2 to apache in the webserver list, and add mini-httpd.
- Only attempt to restart any of the apache's if /usr/sbin/apachectl
exists and is executable, doing the same favour for apache2.
- Update Maintainer field as per spec

[Bug 153526] Re: segmentation fault when set as away by GUI

2008-08-28 Thread Saïvann Carignan
Philip Wyett : Thank you very much for your work on this! I forgot to
mention you that hardy debdiff version number should have a appropriate
version number for a Stable Release Update (generally followed by
~8.04.1). This is needed to avoid identical version numbers between
different ubuntu releases. Also, I changed hardy for hardy-proposed
in your distribution field in changelog. Many thanks again for the work!

MOTU SRU : I've reviewed and tested this patch, it builds and works
fine. The reasons why this debdiff could qualify for a SRU is that it
fixes a already existing patch which caused crash when setting as away.
I believe that the situation where the crash can be reproduced is very
common, and justify the SRU. Thanks for your review

[Bug 262125] [NEW] exo-open tries to open directory with an email program

2008-08-28 Thread forest
Public bug reported:

exo-open fails to open certain directories on my file system, namely
those with email addresses in their names. If I run exo-open
/home/forest/foo, it correctly opens a Thunar window to that directory.
If I run exo-open /home/forest/[EMAIL PROTECTED], it launches my email
program, which (of course) fails to do anything useful.

I noticed this because it seems to be the cause of Ubuntu's Tracker
search tool failing to open my jabber (google talk) message log
directories, which are created by pidgin.

This is on ubuntu hardy, libexo-0.3-0.

[Bug 185868] Re: wink complains about not finding libexpat.so.0

2008-08-28 Thread density
This bug was fixed in the package wink - 1.5.1060-5ubuntu1
aptitude search wink results in nothing. I can't find that package on the web
either.

Wink doesn't seem to be the best solution for desktop recording anyway.
Most other capture applications don't work either (e.g. Istanbul).

Eventually, I found (gtk-)recordmydesktop in the repository.

I think the only disadvantage should be that gtk-recordmydesktop
defaults to OGG while wink can write Flash files directly.

However, the advantage is that it is not closed-source freeware software
where you have to rely on the author's time and mercy. (They should
really charge money for wink and fix things immediately.)

[Bug 262128] [NEW] Attempting to remove installed LAMP server with tasksel removes ubuntu desktop

2008-08-28 Thread inksmithy
Public bug reported:

Wanting to install a development/home server on my system, I read up in
the community docs about how to do so and ended up installing the LAMP
system using tasksel.

I experienced some problems with it (probably my fault) and decided
instead to go a different route. So, not wanting two different stacks on
the system, I typed sudo tasksel into a terminal and when the program
came up, I used the spacebar to remove the asterisk next to the LAMP
Server option in the tasksel list.

I then hit tab to move down to confirm the operation and pressed the
spacebar to begin.

tasksel then proceeded to not only remove the LAMP system, but the
entire ubuntu desktop. It also seems to have stamped on my configuration
files, to the point where networking no longer seems to come up
automatically - although it did seem to take some time to remove network
manager, so it might just be a case of using ifup/ifdown.

[note] that seems to be the case, I am now using tasksel to reinstall
the ubuntu desktop.

I'm not sure how repeatable this bug is and I don't really have the
hardware sitting around to try to repeat it, but if anyone has had a
similar experience (which seems likely) they will attest to the horror
of watching their carefully configured system get hosed like this.

This occurred using a fully updated 32 bit 8.4.1.

[update] this may be a duplicate report of bug 150252.

[Bug 208079] Re: Windows 'jump' up and down when maximized

2008-08-28 Thread Ralph
I can also confirm this bug in Hardy. It also happens with Evolution
when opening a second window.

[Bug 118537] Re: logout dialog does not offer suspend/hibernate

2008-08-28 Thread Keith
Tentative success:
AT Groote Schuur Primary School I decided to upgrade to Hardy Heron followed by
an LTSP install on our system and to my disappointment the Quit button did not
work - same old pause for a minute and even freezing up. So I went back to
these pages and read around a bit and did an apt-get install
gnome-power-manager. It seems to have solved the problem. Even Hibernate works
- so far. I'm not getting carried away yet - I'll give it time and report back
but so far so good.

The question is: Why should one have to do this in the first place?

[Bug 262133] [NEW] Maltese locale - spelling changes required

[Bug 262132] [NEW] Inkscape and Evolution windows jump when maximized

2008-08-28 Thread Ralph
Public bug reported:

The Inkscape bug has already been reported here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/easytag/+bug/208079

But when using Compiz and running Evolution, if I open a new window (to
have, say, Email and Calendar at the same time), the same thing happens
to Evolution.

To describe it in detail: When the window is maximized, if I click on
the menu-bar, the window will jump up and down. This make clicking
anything almost impossible, and the only way to unmaximize the window is
by holding Alt and drag the window with the mouse. When unmaximized,
there is no jumping.

Before Hardy, I never experienced this bug.

[Bug 262128] Re: Attempting to remove installed LAMP server with tasksel removes ubuntu desktop

2008-08-28 Thread inksmithy
** Description changed:

+
+ This occurred using a fully updated 32 bit 8.4.1.
+
+ [update] this may be a duplicate report of bug 150252.

[Bug 240027] Re: totem-audio-preview still works and dont close after deleting previewed file

2008-08-28 Thread peterfrank
I have the same problem. To reproduce the bug, just single-click to
select an audio file, place the mouse above the 'music' symbol to start
audio preview, and then press Shift+Delete and Enter to delete the file.
Totem will continue to run.
