[Bug 155947] Re: libnss-ldap: calls to initgroups() causes boot to hang when using 'bind_policy hard'
Is there a fix for this for 7.10? When the LDAP server is down, it hangs on klog etc. I have bind_policy soft set and it still hangs. Adding nss_initgroups_ignoreusers to my ldap.conf seems to be a workaround. -- libnss-ldap: calls to initgroups() causes boot to hang when using 'bind_policy hard' https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155947 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libnss-ldap in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

I agree with you. This is more a bug in a corner case that normal use shouldn't hit, with an easy workaround, so it's probably not worthy of an SRU. [Bug 84782] Re: slow samba transfer speed to/from windows machines
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 46081 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/46081 I too am having the same issues. 1 computer running Ubuntu Server 8.04, with ubuntu-desktop installed over top for gui purposes, and one running xp SP2. On the Ubuntu machines, I can get speeds of 1.6-1.8 MEGABYTES down from the internet.. But transffering files from Ubuntu to Windows, or vice versa, I'm getting around 350KILOBYTES if I'm lucky. I've tried every combination of socket options that I could think of, and have seen no increase in speed. I'm using the onboard RTL8100C nic.. I checked out my samba logs a bunch, and see this: [2008/08/28 22:15:53, 0] auth/auth_util.c:create_builtin_users(758) create_builtin_users: Failed to create Users A bunch of times, but it does not appear to effect my ability to connect to and browse my windows machines.. If anyone has made any progress on this, I'd love to know. Something interesting to note: I was playing around with virtual box, and couldn't get the builtin drive sharing to work with a windows xp guest operating system, so I mounted my share in windows using samba..and on the SAME computer, I was experiencing the dismal speeds that I see going from my Ubuntu machine to my external windows machine. When I did get the virtual box drive sharing working again, speeds increased drastically. [Bug 153526] Re: segmentation fault when set as away by GUI
Philip Wyett : Thank you very much for your work on this! I forgot to mention you that hardy debdiff version number should have a appropriate version number for a Stable Release Update (generally followed by ~8.04.1). This is needed to avoid identical version numbers between different ubuntu releases. Also, I changed hardy for hardy-proposed in your distribution field in changelog. Many thanks again for the work! MOTU SRU : I've reviewed and tested this patch, it builds and works fine. The reasons why this debdiff could qualify for a SRU is that it fixes a already existing patch which caused crash when setting as away. I believe that the situation where the crash can be reproduced is very common, and justify the SRU. [Bug 262125] [NEW] exo-open tries to open directory with an email program
Public bug reported: exo-open fails to open certain directories on my file system, namely those with email addresses in their names. If I run exo-open /home/forest/foo, it correctly opens a Thunar window to that directory. If I run exo-open /home/forest/[EMAIL PROTECTED], it launches my email program, which (of course) fails to do anything useful. I noticed this because it seems to be the cause of Ubuntu's Tracker search tool failing to open my jabber (google talk) message log directories, which are created by pidgin. [Bug 185868] Re: wink complains about not finding libexpat.so.0
This bug was fixed in the package wink - 1.5.1060-5ubuntu1 aptitude search wink results in nothing. I can't find that package on the web either. Wink doesn't seem to be the best solution for desktop recording anyway. Most other capture applications don't work either (e.g. Istanbul). Eventually, I found (gtk-)recordmydesktop in the repository. I think the only disadvantage should be that gtk-recordmydesktop defaults to OGG while wink can write Flash files directly. However, the advantage is that it is not closed-source freeware software where you have to rely on the author's time and mercy. [Bug 262128] [NEW] Attempting to remove installed LAMP server with tasksel removes ubuntu desktop
Public bug reported: Wanting to install a development/home server on my system, I read up in the community docs about how to do so and ended up installing the LAMP system using tasksel. I experienced some problems with it (probably my fault) and decided instead to go a different route. So, not wanting two different stacks on the system, I typed sudo tasksel into a terminal and when the program came up, I used the spacebar to remove the asterisk next to the LAMP Server option in the tasksel list. I then hit tab to move down to confirm the operation and pressed the spacebar to begin. tasksel then proceeded to not only remove the LAMP system, but the entire ubuntu desktop. It also seems to have stamped on my configuration files, to the point where networking no longer seems to come up automatically - although it did seem to take some time to remove network manager, so it might just be a case of using ifup/ifdown. [note] that seems to be the case, I am now using tasksel to reinstall the ubuntu desktop. I'm not sure how repeatable this bug is and I don't really have the hardware sitting around to try to repeat it, but if anyone has had a similar experience (which seems likely) they will attest to the horror of watching their carefully configured system get hosed like this. This occurred using a fully updated 32 bit 8.4.1. Tentative success: AT Groote Schuur Primary School I decided to upgrade to Hardy Heron followed by an LTSP install on our system and to my disappointment the Quit button did not work - same old pause for a minute and even freezing up. To describe it in detail: When the window is maximized, if I click on the menu-bar, the window will jump up and down.
