Public bug reported: When trying to print in OpenOffice.org Writer all memory is quickly consumed and the system freezes. [Bug 193139] Re: hardy ooo missing jre - system crashed
Thanks for the tip about removing javasettings_Linux_x86.xml. Upon restart it rebuilt that file, and the persistent "Please install a JRE" dialog box. By the way, when I was getting the dialog box, it *did* go away for me after I pressed the OK button and the [X] button (a few of one, a few of the other, etc.) a dozen times or so. The old javasettings file had file:///usr/lib/../lib and 1.4.2. The new one, rebuilt by OpenOffice, points to my Sun java 5 installation: file:///usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.15/jre and 1.5.0_15 I think I've had the problem with the JRE from my first Ubuntu installation. I am now upgraded to Hardy and at first I was going to try installing openoffice.org-java-common. Fortunately, Synaptic didn't show this as available. This caused me to search and I found this thread, so I did not incur the clutter of the un-needed package. When I upgraded to the next version of firefox, I was shocked to discover that there was an EULA, and I also believed that this is a bug. You should now be in printing options, in the "general" tab. Click to select your printer, and then click on the "Page Setup" tab. 4. In the "Page Setup" tab, try to change the Paper type. My monitor is ViewSonic VA1703wb with native resolution of 1440x900. I'm getting the native resolution without any problems. But when the screen resolution changes during playing games , (after exiting the game) the native resolution doesn't come back. When I run 'xrandr -s 1440x900' nothing happens as it is not in the available lists. This problems does not happen always. But when it happens I cannot use my native resolution. I have to shutdown the PC for some minutes and then turning on gives back the native resolution. Doing just a restart doesn't work fine. When I googled I came up with some EDID problems regarding the Windows driver of GMA 945. But there were no mention about Linux. This problem also happens sometimes when starting the PC. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: fast-user-switch-applet I'm using amd64 Intrepid Alpha 5. The user switch applet in Gnome has an option 'Guest Session' but every time I click on it, only a blank white screen will be displayed. No guest desktop loads, although the mouse focus shows a spinning circle for about 10 seconds indicating something is loading. I can halt the unsuccessful guest session by 'Ctrl+Alt+Backspace'. I will be prompted my password, and after entering the password my own session recovers. [Bug 270019] [NEW] Arabic support in icewm
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: icewm This patch is to fix this bug: [ 1440618 ] bidi support (fribidi) Languages such as Hebrew and Arabic are written from right to left. [Bug 156540] Re: High pitch whine on left audio channel with Asus K8N-VM
I did a clean install of Hardy a while back, and to my dismay found that with pulseaudio being the default sound system, my workaround specified above no longer works, and reverts to 2-channel sound only. I've tried editing /etc/pulse/daemon.conf to add "default-sample-channels = 6" (because PA only enables 2-channel playback by default), but I don't get anything but 2-channel. Even worse, trying to set the playback to use ALSA again fails on test with the following message: audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Could not open audio device for playback. So surround sound has been completely broken for me since. You didn't specify a repo to add so that I can install linux- image-2.6.27-*, so I downloaded the Intrepid alpha 5, booted into it and still 2-channel sound only. Edited /etc/pulse/daemon.conf as above and ran: killall pulseaudio pulseaudio & Test tone still works, but still only 2-channel, even after unmuting all the appropriate channels. Note that whether I'm using the installed Hardy or live Intrepid, I get the following error when I manually relaunch PA: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ pulseaudio & [1] 6507 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ALSA lib control.c:909:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL front:0 Let me know if there's any other information I can provide. -- High pitch whine on left audio channel with Asus K8N-VM https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/156540 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 263100] Re: Gnome-do does nothing when trying to open a folder
This is actually due to xdg-open being broken by a change in gnome- session behaviour. [Bug 258703] Re: gnome-sound-properties cannot set sound preferences
at least on my system I have a file called /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc. I created a new file under /etc/X11/xinit/canberra.in, and appended the following line to xinitrc: . /etc/X11/xinit/canberra.in Then logged out and back in. BUT -- it only worked for a while... :-( After some time pulseaudio would start a loop, filling very fast my /var filesystem (writing the same error message over and over to /var/log/user.log). Only killing pulseaudio would stop this behaviour. So... back to square 0. But, perhaps, a better place for this would be /etc/X11/Xsession.d. -- gnome-sound-properties cannot set sound preferences https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/258703 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 270000] Re: Can't use OpenDNS and retain Awesome Bar functionality
Yes, that's the only explanation... it's my ISP. ..isn't that /dangerous/, passing a non-URL to my ISP? ...ok, this feature has become insanely un-reliable now.. maybe I need to put om.cox.net back into my 'search domains' under my DNS settings... ok, now it's working. --but I still can't use OpenDNS, which irks me. So that's the bug-- Firefox 3 requests non-URL pages from my ISP. It should /never/ do that. Quick guide: if the text has spaces, it's not a URL. Don't even start to treat it like one. If it has no spaces and no dot, use Google's I'm Feeling Lucky. Do _not_ try to append random TLD's and try to get the page that way, because there is no way to tell /which/ TLD I want without going to google anyways. If I don't include a TLD, use google's I'm Feeling Lucky. -- Can't use OpenDNS and retain Awesome Bar functionality https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/27 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 269656] Re: AN IRRELEVANT LICENSE IS PRESENTED TO YOU FREE-OF-CHARGE ON STARTUP
One of my primary gripes with the EULAs of many pieces of software is this: they're almost universally written in dense legalese and all caps (YELLING), and often have just plain weird sections (for example, iTunes saying not to use it for "chemical, nuclear, or biological weaponry"). In fact, simply applying sentence case to an EULA will usually render it drastically more readable. Compare the Firefox EULA to the Windows Vista EULA... even if you disagree with the terms of the latter, you still have to admit that it's formatted very well -- it's written in plain English, with proper capitalization, outline numbering, indenting, and such. Perhaps Canonical should get on Mozilla's case about improving the EULA document itself, if nothing else. -- AN IRRELEVANT LICENSE IS PRESENTED TO YOU FREE-OF-CHARGE ON STARTUP https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269656 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
