Steve,

will you be able to provide this update for Hardy or will this only be
in Intrepid? Including this in Hardy would releave us of serious
issues with developing a Linux desktop alternative :-)

[Bug 260687] Re: pam_smbpass.so segfaults

2008-09-18 Thread rw
This is a nasty problem, because it makes login impossible (except in
single-user mode) if libpam-smbpass is installed. We currently have
three machines with Intrepid (latest updates); on two of them there's no
problem, on the third pam_smbpass.so segfaults on every login attempt
(and thus the login fails). Attached is the backtrace reported by the
Samba 'panic action' script (/usr/share/samba/panic-action). libpam-
smbpass version is 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu2

[Bug 231060] Re: packages dnsmasq and libvirt-bin conflict with each other

2008-09-18 Thread Mario Manno
libvirt now depends on dnsmasq-base, which does not install any config files.
After doing a default install
dnsmasq starts with:
  dnsmasq --keep-in-foreground --strict-order --bind-interfaces --pid-file
--conf-file  --listen-address 192.168.122.1 --except-interface lo
--dhcp-leasefile=/var/lib/libvirt/dhcp-default.leases --dhcp-range
192.168.122.2,192.168.122.254

I would guess this is a fix?

[Bug 271922] [NEW] Default ACL not applied on files created through CIFS filesystem (mount.cifs)

2008-09-18 Thread Etienne Goyer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: smbfs

When creating files on a CIFS-mounted filesystem, default ACL are not
inherited. However, directory created on same CIFS-mounted filesystem
works just fine.

Both server and client are Ubuntu 8.04. On the server, running samba
3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.5, smb.conf is entirely distribution-default, except
for the share definition:

[share]
path = /srv/share
read only = No
inherit acls = Yes

Note that, in examples below, ubuntu is uid 1000 on both hardy-server
and hardy-desktop.

On the server:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ umask
0022
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cd /srv/share
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/srv/share$ sudo mkdir test-acl
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/srv/share$ sudo chown ubuntu:ubuntu test-acl
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/srv/share$ setfacl -m d:o:rwx test-acl
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/srv/share$ mkdir test-acl/dir-local
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/srv/share$ touch test-acl/file-local
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/srv/share$ getfacl -R test-acl
# file: test-acl
# owner: ubuntu
# group: ubuntu
user::rwx
group::r-x
other::r-x
default:user::rwx
default:group::r-x
default:other::rwx

# file: test-acl/dir-local
# owner: ubuntu
# group: ubuntu
user::rwx
group::r-x
other::rwx
default:user::rwx
default:group::r-x
default:other::rwx

# file: test-acl/file-local
# owner: ubuntu
# group: ubuntu
user::rw-
group::r--
other::rw-

So far so good. Now, on the client, which have smbfs 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.6 from
hardy-proposed installed:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ uname -r
2.6.24-20-generic
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ modinfo -F version cifs
1.52
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ umask
0022
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ grep hardy-server /etc/fstab
//hardy-server.montreal.canonical.com/share /home/ubuntu/hardy-server
cifsuser,username=ubuntu,password=whatever0   0
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ mkdir /home/ubuntu/hardy-server
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ mount /home/ubuntu/hardy-server
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cd /home/ubuntu/hardy-server/test-acl
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/hardy-server/test-acl$ mkdir dir-cifs
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/hardy-server/test-acl$ touch file-cifs

Now, I cannot use getfacl to display the ACL from the client as the cifs
module have not been compiled with CONFIG_CIFS_XATTR, but from the
server:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/srv/share/test-acl$ getfacl *-cifs
# file: dir-cifs
# owner: ubuntu
# group: ubuntu
user::rwx
group::r-x
other::rwx
default:user::rwx
default:group::r-x
default:other::rwx

# file: file-cifs
# owner: ubuntu
# group: ubuntu
user::rw-
group::r--
other::r--

We can see the directory inherited the default ACL, but the file created
on the client over the CIFS-mounted file system do not appear to have
got the w permission propagated from the parent directory as expected.
Even more puzzling, it appear to work as expected when using smbclient:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ touch file-smbclient
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ smbclient //hardy-server/share
Password:
Domain=[HARDY-SERVER] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.28a]t
smb: \ cd test-acl
smb: \test-acl\ mkdir dir-smbclient
smb: \test-acl\ put file-smbclient
putting file file-smbclient as \test-acl\file-smbclient (0.0 kb/s) (average 0.0
kb/s)
smb: \test-acl\ quit

Witness on the server:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ getfacl /srv/share/test-acl/*-smbclient
getfacl: Removing leading '/' from absolute path names
# file: srv/share/test-acl/dir-smbclient
# owner: ubuntu
# group: ubuntu
user::rwx
group::r-x
other::rwx
default:user::rwx
default:group::r-x
default:other::rwx

# file: srv/share/test-acl/file-smbclient
# owner: ubuntu
# group: ubuntu
user::rwx
group::r-x
other::rwx

I am puzzled. Could it relate to the umask? acl(5) seems to imply it could.
But then, the umask is the same on both hardy-desktop and hardy-desktop (0022)
and yet, the actual behavior differ depending on if the file is created locally
or through a CIFS-mounted file system (it should not). Maybe I am just
confused about what the correct behavior should be in the first place.

  # file: test-acl/file-local
  # owner: ubuntu
  # group: ubuntu
  user::rw-
  group::r--
  other::rw-

  So far so good. Now, on the client, which have smbfs 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.6 from
hardy-proposed installed:

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ uname -r
  2.6.24-20-generic
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ modinfo -F version cifs
  1.52
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ umask
  0022
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ grep hardy-server /etc/fstab
  //hardy-server.montreal.canonical.com/share /home/ubuntu/hardy-server
  cifsuser,username=ubuntu,password=whatever0   0
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ mkdir /home/ubuntu/hardy-server
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ mount /home/ubuntu/hardy-server
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cd /home/ubuntu/hardy-server/test-acl
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/hardy-server/test-acl$ mkdir dir-cifs
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/hardy-server/test-acl$ touch file-cifs

  Now, I cannot use getfacl to display the ACL from the client as the cifs
  module have not been compiled with CONFIG_CIFS_XATTR, but from the
  server:

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/srv/share/test-acl$ getfacl *-cifs
  # file: dir-cifs
  # owner: ubuntu
  # group: ubuntu
  user::rwx
  group::r-x
  other::rwx
  default:user::rwx
  default:group::r-x
  default:other::rwx

  # file: file-cifs
  # owner: ubuntu
  # group: ubuntu
  user::rw-
  group::r--
  other::r--

  Password:
  Domain=[HARDY-SERVER] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.28a]t
  smb: \ cd test-acl
  smb: \test-acl\ mkdir dir-smbclient
  smb: \test-acl\ put file-smbclient
  putting file file-smbclient as \test-acl\file-smbclient (0.0 kb/s) (average
0.0 kb/s)
  smb: \test-acl\ quit

  Witness on the server:

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ getfacl /srv/share/test-acl/*-smbclient
  getfacl: Removing leading '/' from absolute path names
  # file: srv/share/test-acl/dir-smbclient
  # owner: ubuntu
  # group: ubuntu
  user::rwx
  group::r-x
  other::rwx
  default:user::rwx
  default:group::r-x
  default:other::rwx

  # file: srv/share/test-acl/file-smbclient
  # owner: ubuntu
  # group: ubuntu
  user::rwx
  group::r-x
  other::rwx

- I am puzzled.

[Bug 271922] Re: Default ACL not applied on files created through CIFS filesystem (mount.cifs)

2008-09-18 Thread Etienne Goyer
The problem could be on the server side. I just tested with Ubuntu
7.10, with the old smbmount and smb kernel module, and the behavior is
the same as when using mount.cifs and the cifs kernel module: directory
inherit ACL fine, but not files.

I've tested this. Normal (short-term) suspend and hibernate work normally.
However, on my first overnight (9 hour) suspend and resume, I still got the
beeping sound and the message saying suspend failed to work properly. I can
attach any relevant log files if that would help (just tell me what, I have
captured dmesg, kern.log, messages and so on)
dpkg -s gnome-power-manager gives:

want to remove All of the tags except the needs-packaging one.

** Tags added: banking compiler corba database medical mumps object odmg

** Description changed:

  URL;

  Description:

  The goal of the EsiObjects™ Open Source project is to evolve the ANSI
  Standard MUMPS language and database technology into a modern object
  oriented language and persistent object store that can be integrated
  into mainstream, state-of-the-art technologies.

  EsiObjects™('easy objects') is a product of ESI Technology Corporation.
  It was put under Open Source licensing to offer the world community an
  excellent object oriented development and runtime system based on the
  time proven MUMPS (M) technology.

  Includes Optional Packages

  There are several other packages that you may find useful. The packages
  are listed below with a short description. Select the link to the
  package you want to download.

  * EsiQuery is an implementation of the Object Data Management Groups
(ODMG) Object Query Language. It is an add-on package that permits SQL like
queries.
  * EsiDoc is an abstract document management package. It is capable of
storing different documents. Currently, it supports XML documents.
  * EsiParser contains a set of java files that implement EsiObjects code
generation classes for ANTLR. ANTLR (Another Tool for Language Recognition) is
a parser and translator generator that is available through an Open Source
License.
  * EsiORB is an implementation of the Common Object Request Broker
Architecture (CORBA). It consists of the communications only. Services have not
been implemented.
  * EsiProxy is designed to handle incoming (client) TCP connections and
makes appropriate server side connections. Its purpose is to provide better
support for making and establishing connections to an EsiObjects session or an
EsiORB CORBA connection by hiding underlying shortcomings of the host MUMPS
system.

+ EsiObjects and Mumps get used in software for the banking industry, and
+ along with one of the *vista range of programs get used in the Medical
+ Industry.

[Bug 271626] [NEW] Need to Restart X (CTRL+ALT+BKSP) to turn on ext monitor / projector

2008-09-18 Thread Doughy
Public bug reported:

I have to restart X (CTRL+ALT+BKSP) to get a projector to work with my
Dell 1330 that came pre-installed with Ubuntu. I have to plug in the
projector, then restart X, then re-login, then restart my presentation.

I was giving a talk at a professional conference and it was embarrassing
that I had to reboot X and re-login while everyone sat there waiting for
me. One judge even came up to me and said Don't give presentations on
Linux when I was done. Great

My Specs:
Ubuntu 8.04
Dell 1330 with integrated graphics (intel?)

I'm happy to attach any log/config files if it would be helpful.

[Bug 271089] Re: wsgi 2.0 should not be used!

2008-09-18 Thread William Grant
Please sync mod-wsgi 2.3-1 from sid.
This doesn't need a FFe, as the only new feature is FreeBSD-specific.

 mod-wsgi  (2.3-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release (Closes: #496067). This upload covers the changes of
 mod-wsgi 2.2 and 2.3.
 mod-wsgi 2.2 is mainly bugfix-releases. The only exception is a backport
 of one function from 3.0 which allows the setting of process names on *BSD
 - this does not affect Linux.
 mod-wsgi 2.3 fixes regressions which were introduced in 2.2.

 Here follows a list of the bugfixes in 2.2:
   1. Fix bug whereby if mod_python is loaded at same time as mod_wsgi the
  WSGIImportScript directive can cause Apache child processes to crash.
  For details see: http://code.google.com/p/modwsgi/issues/detail?id=91

   2. Fix bug where mod_wsgi daemon process startup could fail due to old
  stale UNIX listener socket file as described in:
  http://code.google.com/p/modwsgi/issues/detail?id=77

   3. Fix bug where listener socket file descriptors for daemon processes
  were being leaked in Apache parent process on a graceful restart.
  Also fixes problem where UNIX listener socket was left in filesystem
  on both graceful restart and graceful shutdown. For details see:
  http://code.google.com/p/modwsgi/issues/detail?id=95

   4. Fix bug where response was truncated when a null character appeared
  as first character in block of data being returned from
  wsgi.file_wrapper.
  Only occurred when code fell back to using iteration over supplied
  file like object, rather than optimised method such as sendfile().
  http://code.google.com/p/modwsgi/issues/detail?id=100

 The following regressions/bugs of 2.2 were fixed in 2.3:

   1. Fixed problem introduced in version 2.2 of mod_wsgi whereby use of
  daemon mode would cause CGI scripts to fail. It is quite possible
  that the bug could also have caused failures with other Apache
  modules that relied on registering of cleanup functions against
  Apache configuration memory pool.

   2. (does not affect Linux)
  When using setproctitle() on BSD systems, first argument should be
  a printf style format string with values to fill out per format as
  additional arguments. Code was supplying value to be displayed as
  format string which meant that if it contained any printf type format
  sequences, could cause process to crash as corresponding arguments
  wouldn't have ben provided.

mod-wsgi (2.1-2) unstable; urgency=medium

   * Calling pyversions in postinst requires that 'python' is installed and
 configured, so it would need to be added to Pre-Depends. As this is kinda
 ugly, we ship the symlink to the module for the right Python version now
 in the package. I assume that this will really fix #483197 now, I'm quite
 sure that the broken link results from an error message of the
 unconfigured python/pyversions. Shipping the symlink also makes sure that
 it is available while Apache is configured (which may happen before
 mod-wsgi is configured). (Closes: #483197, #491478)
   * Drop the parts from the maintainer scripts which renamed the wsgi config
 files (see #456737 for details) - as mod-wsgi was not released with Etch
 and the fix was for a long enough time in testing, it should be safe to
 remove them before Lenny.

Solved with version 0.7.11, published in Debian Sid.

I built it correctly with pbuilder without any changes for Ubuntu.

Here is the changelog linked to that version upgrade:
kwave (0.7.11-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * QA upload:
Orphan package, Bertrand Songis has been inactive for more than 6 months
and upstream author has tried to reach him for months now without success.
  * New upstream version:
- Kwave does not longer use aRts. (Closes: #367036)
- Add several patches provided by upstream:
  01-dont-link-arts-when-disabled.diff
  02-explicitely-link-libaudiofile.diff
  03-kwave-plugins-in-moduledir.diff
  04-disable-mp3-per-default.diff
  * Add -DCMAKE_SKIP_RPATH=true to cmake configure, fixes rpath issue.
(Closes: #495758)
  * Remove leftovers from autotools transition to cmake:
- No more usage of debianrules file.
- Remove relibtoolization bits and cleaninf of debian/rules.
- Remove build depends on: automake1.7, autoconf, autotools-dev, perl,
  debianutils.
  * Replace build depend on kdemultimedia-dev with kdelibs4-dev.
  * Remove dpatch system and add quilt instead.
  * Update to Standards-Version 3.8.0, no changes required.
  * Add build depend on mawk. Thanks Thomas! (Closes: #482248)
  * Update copyright file. (Closes: #419124)

[Bug 238191] Re: Addon card conflict between graphics card, tv tuner, and onboard lan

2008-09-18 Thread kahrytan
Read the readme.txt to know which hard is installed and which driver is
used.

** Summary changed:

- Addon card conflict between graphics card and tv tuner
+ Addon card conflict between graphics card, tv tuner, and onboard lan

** Description changed:

- Please note: THIS IS NOT A BUG IN NVIDIA DRIVER.
+ Hardware:
+
+ Motherboard: GA-G31M-S2L
+ Nvidia 7200GS with and without Nvidia driver
+ Hauppuage WinTV 1600 ( no driver installed) installed.
+ Netgear FA311 PCI card installed and no installed.

- System won't boot when tv tuner, HVR-1600, and my graphics card, Nvidia
7200GS. When tv tuner is removed. The graphics card works fine with it's nvidia
drivers. When inserted, X locks up when it attempts to load.
-
- Sorry, no xorg.0.log is available. X does not generate one. No error is
- outputted.
-
- lspci -v | grep VGA
- 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72 [GeForce 7300 SE]
(rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
-
- ^ It is Nvidia 7200GS card... not 7300SE.
+ When the onboard LAN is enabled, I get a hardlock when X tries start with
nvidia driver. Alt-SysRq-REISUB will not work.
+ When the onboard LAN is enabled, X starts fine with nv.

- It affects all distributions of Linux. OpenSUSE mistakes the tv tuner for a
graphics card in the graphics card configuration. This is clear cut bug in
Linux or something else suggested, perhaps HAL.
+ Attachment includes different setups with lspci and lshal logs.

First of all, there is no version 2.04 of Ubuntu. I'm sure you mean
8.04. Or are you talking about the x.org intel driver which is version
2.4.0?

1) The graphics chipset should be supported in Intrepid Ibex. I suggest you try
that out. Alpha 5 can be found here:

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/intrepid/alpha-5/

2) When you boot run in single user mode, the network should still be
functional. What does ifconfig tell you?

[Bug 262980] Re: Keyboard layout selection in kde screen saver (locked workstation)

2008-09-18 Thread Michael Gefen
resolution:

1. enabling keyboard layouts in System Settings (3.5.10) will also enable the
language indicator in the lock screen, but then the xorg.conf settings will be
overwritten with the KDE settings (and kkbdswich will be useless)
2. in kde 4.1 (whatever is in interpid alpha 4 CD) it is possible to enable the
language indicator WITHOUT enabling KDE language management (xorg.conf is
setting the layouts, and KDE only show the current) will add the language
indicator to lock screen.

question:
is it possible to backport the the option to enable the indicator without
enabling the language managment of KDE?

[Bug 267973] Re: [Intrepid] Please rebuild for libgnome-desktop-2-7, if possible

2008-09-18 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
Just took a quick look at this one. There is no hard Depends on
libgnome-desktop-2. There is a Build-Depends on libgnome-desktop-dev, so
Depends: ${shlibs:Depends} draws in libgnome-desktop-2.

It simply needs to get a rebuild. Subscribing U-U-S

Same problem with xulrunner:

$ sudo apt-get install xulrunner-1.9-dbgsym
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  xulrunner-1.9-dbgsym: Depends: xulrunner-1.9 (= 1.9~b5+nobinonly-0ubuntu3)

[Bug 271638] [NEW] [Intrepid alpha5 ] iwlwifi could not work with NetworkManager 0.7+

2008-09-18 Thread Huaxu
Public bug reported:

Most of the time, the driver will not work after boot up. It always try
to associate with one AP, even specify another one.But, this issue
not found in previous version ( Alpha5-) , the NetworkManager upgraded
to 0.7~~svn* at Intrepid Alpha5.

Reproduce steps:
1. OS booting up
2. The wireless works( it's really rare in my test)
3. Reload the iwlagn module
4. Driver not works, it sticks at wlan0: associate with AP 00:16:47:93:41:f0

The dmesg is attached.

 Hi,

 Could you please try right-clicking underneath the menu bar (but above
 the bookmark toolbar), and check that 'Navigation Toolbar' is checked.
 If it isn't, then please check it and tell me if that fixes it.

 Thanks

 address bar is back - thank you

[Bug 271360] Re: compact view: scroll right when you scroll the mouse wheel down

2008-09-18 Thread A. Walton
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 238179 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/238179

Intrepid has a new view in Nautilus, which this bug refers to (the
Compact View, as seen in Windows and Thunar and the like).

You can see it here: http://blogs.gnome.org/cneumair/files/2008/02
/screenshot-compact-icons.png

I'm still not sure if it's the right thing to do (it seems very, very
strange to me to scroll down and move sideways), but it's already
upstream. But thanks for reporting.

   Scrolling in CompactView  doesn't work
