[Bug 274874] [NEW] feature request: gnome-system-log shoud be used as a front end for logrotate.conf

2008-09-26 Thread komputes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

Naturally since the logs viewed in gnome-system-log are kept based on
the rules set in etc/logrotate.conf, I think gnome-system-log needs to
be able to set a preference on the number of days/weeks the admin would
like to keep logs. The calendar functionality is great, but it indicates
this feature which is lacks a front end for configuration, I don't think
we need the fine grain control that logrotate.conf offers, but at least
minimal configuration.

This can be accomplished by adding the following functionality:

Edit > Preferences

Rotate logs [Pull Down] daily | weekly | monthly
Keep backlogs for [Field] weeks
Compress logs [Radio Buttons] Yes/No

[Bug 274715] Re: System Cleaner Does Not Refresh Following Cleaning

2008-09-26 Thread Lars Wirzenius
Found the reason for this: system-cleaner-gtk didn't refresh the
apt.Cache() instance it has after it had removed packages. Therefore,
when it refreshes the list of cruft after a cleanup, it finds the state
of the system to be exactly as it was before the cleanup. Result: a
confused system-cleaner-gtk, and a confused user.

I've fixed this in bzr.

2008-09-26 Thread Brian Murray
It still crashes for me with 2.24.0-0ubuntu1 with the following
information in a terminal:

The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 90 error_code 11 request_code 141 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I'll attach the problematic video.

[Bug 274870] [NEW] Xorg should keep more rotated logs

2008-09-26 Thread Chris Jones
Public bug reported:

Currently Xorg keeps only its current log and old older one. While this
is normally fine, there are situations where logs from a failed run can
disappear (e.g. the first run wedges your graphics hardware, so the
subsequent runs from GDM fail for different reasons and leave unhelpful
logs. GDM tries several times, so the original log will be lost).

While that is indeed a rare corner case, given how small they are, I
think it's probably worth keeping 5 or 6 old logs. There may be other
situations where being able to compare several runs, or pull an error
out of an older log, are useful.

[Bug 261789] Re: Tasks preview are not word-wrapped

2008-09-26 Thread Sebastien Bacher
you should look at the list of the evolution uploads in hardy-updates
before adding such comments, evolution had several updates and backports
since hardy but GNOME has over 80 packages and there is tiny team
working to triage all the bugs, do the intrepid updates and backport
fixes to hardy. doing a fix backport is quite some work and backport
the hundred of intrepid changes is not an option, this bug is a
graphical detail, you are the only one who complained about it in years
and it's easy to workaround so it's low priority for a stable update,
now you are welcome to contribute by working on the stable update if you
want but blaming overworked contributors to not work enough is not
likely to bring you anything there

[Bug 274867] [NEW] adding table twice results in unexpected behaviour in query

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

steps to reproduce problem:
* open
http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/56852/OOo_debug.odb
* open "unnormalized table" query in edit mode
* Press F5, the query runs fine and displays three rows
* return to edit mode
* press F7 and add the products table for a second time
* press F5 to run the query again and see that there are a number of erroneous
rows in the result

still present even in m31

The SQL statement that returns the correct results is

SELECT "products"."productName", "categories"."categoryName" FROM
"products", "categories" WHERE "products"."categoryID" =
"categories"."categoryID"

the one after adding the table for the second time is

SELECT "products"."productName", "categories"."categoryName" FROM

[Bug 206316] Re: Soft lockup in native_safe_halt on CPU#0

2008-09-26 Thread Chris Coulson
We're getting quite a few people posting in this report that may or may
not have the same issue. For the benefit of the reporter, kernel team
and the other people that are definately experiencing this bug, I want
to try and avoid this report becoming like some other reports have done
in the past (where they just become too messy to follow).

I want to try and get this report in to a state where I can set it to
triaged, and to do that, I will need to ask for some more information (I
need a complete set of data off at least one person really).

Ed Hargin - Could you please include all of the information requested at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingACPI separate attachments?

geraldo - It looks like you are seeing the same oops as the original
reporter. Could you also please provide any information requested in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingACPI which you haven't already provided
(I think it is just the output of dmidecode and the contentsof
/proc/acpi which is outstanding)

Alex Lopez - After comparing your call trace to Ed's and geraldo's, it
seems your oops occurs in a slightly different place. I would encourage
you to open another report for your problem.

Gianfranco - There is no evidence from the data you have given that you
are experiencing this problem. Please open up another report with the
kernel BUG messages from your /var/log/kern.log

Thanks for your co-operation :)

[Bug 274866] [NEW] nvidia-settings creates invalid xorg.conf

2008-09-26 Thread Frank Bob
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-settings

I run kubuntu intrepid

I used nvidia-settings to setup dual screen. I set the TV as a "Separate
X Screen" and saved the configuration to xorg.conf. Tried to restart X
but it failed. Xorg log says

Parse error on line 13 of section Files in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf
"RgbPath" is not a valid keyword in this section.

If I comment out the RgbPath line in xorg.conf, everything seems to
work.

The root cause is that X.Org removed the RgbPath option in version 1.5
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=1666354&postcount=4

I'm attaching the faulty xorg.conf and resulting xorg log

[Bug 273213] Re: gvfs "places" buggy

2008-09-26 Thread A. Walton
This bug cuts both ways; it may be a GVFS bug in that Firefox is
expecting the GtkFileChooser to reverse map all URIs into paths (which
is made possible by this commit
http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/gvfs?view=revision&revision=2031), or
whether Firefox is doing its own URI magic (either GnomeVFS or some
other system of its own). The Firefox guys could answer this more
clearly.

My gut says that the above commit will fix it, but I'm not entirely
certain on this. You may want to try GVFS trunk to see if it fixes this
problem for you.

2008-09-26 Thread Michael McKinley
Where are you entering the password? That is, is this in a GUI dialog
or at the terminal? At the terminal, this is expected behavior: when
entering a password, no asterisks or other characters are echoed to the
screen. In other words, the computer sees you entering the password,
but it doesn't give any feedback.

[Bug 274865] [NEW] [intrepid alpha]power applet incorrect status when plugged in

2008-09-26 Thread David D Lowe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

When I plug in my laptop, the battery icon in the systray remains on the
unplugged status, as the screenshot demonstrates. I expected the plugged-in
icon to appear. The tooltip says:
"Computer is running is running on AC power.
Laptop battery discharging (9.7%)
Battery discharge time is currently unknown"
(Notice the contradiction?)
When I plug in my laptop, the icon is as expected, and the tooltip says:
"Computer is running on battery power.
Laptop battery 5 minutes remaining (9.7%)"

I have never experienced this on Hardy Heron or Gutsy Gibbon using this
same laptop.

Changing icon theme does not fix this bug.

BTW, I filed an upstream bug on this exact problem a little while back,

"DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply,
the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout
expired, or the network connection was broken."

2008-09-26 Thread Neil J. Patel
Okay, please try out the latest commit (136), which should have fixed
this problem.

The issue is that some Intel drivers don't do mipmapping properly and
Clutter's font-cache ends up being non-existent. Forcibly disabling
mipmapping before the fonts are created should fix this.

Testing appreciated, I've left the bug open until we have some confirmed
fixes.

[Bug 193679] Re: totem crashed with SIGSEGV when no mixer available

2008-09-26 Thread Stefan Bethge
I tested the current Intrepid and it seems to be fine. This was another
machine though, but that shouldn't have an influence I guess. I will
investigate it a bit more but I think it is fine now.

Re: [Bug 267682] Re: Hotkeys no longer working in Intrepid on Thinkpads

2008-09-26 Thread Dustin Kirkland
I have a Thinkpad X61 running Hardy, and a Thinkpad T61p running
Intrepid. I'm posting the lshal data from each.

I can confirm that the Suspend button (fn+F4) works on Hardy, but does
not work on Intrepid. I can also confirm that `sudo acpi_fakekey 142`
works on Hardy, but does not work on Intrepid.

[Bug 274752] Re: No kernel installed for ubuntu-mid flavour

2008-09-26 Thread Emmet Hikory
This is an issue with the way that the mid and mobile images are
constructed. ubiquity expects to find /cdrom/casper/vmlinuz, but the
images have /cdrom/vmlinuz. Moving the location of vmlinuz in the
images allows the install to succeed.

[Bug 274858] [NEW] mountkernfs.sh: invalid call to domount when mounting spufs

2008-09-26 Thread Dan Munckton
Public bug reported:

The domount function in /lib/init/mount-functions.sh now has 5
parameters. The call to mount spufs in /etc/init/mountkernfs.sh needs to
be updated to correctly set parameter $4 otherwise the mount command
shows and error and it's usage output on boot.

This problem was revealed while trying to fix LP #274854, and therefore
needs to be fixed in unison with this.

Patch to follow.

[Bug 256048] Re: Loading PDF file hang on Loading...

2008-09-26 Thread Christian Ramseier
I'm new to the evince code but I thought I should share what I found out.
I noticed that the rendering job somehow gets cancelled and the page then just
shows that it is "Loading..."

here's my stacktrace:
ev-jobs.c: ev_job_cancel
ev-pixbuf-cache.c: copy_job_to_job_info
ev-pixbuf-cache.c: ev_pixbuf_cache_get_link_mapping
ev-view.c: ev_view_get_link_at_location
ev-view.c: ev_view_handle_cursor_over_xy
ev-view.c: ev_view_motion_notify_event <- gets called when the mouse moves,
here we go...

copy_job_to_job_info cancels the job because the "job_info->job" object
still exists. it normally gets destroyed the moment the idle calls
emit_finished (ev-jobs.c), but this hasn't happend yet.

In the ev-pixbuf-cache.c you'll find several comments like this: /* We don't
need to wait for the idle to handle the callback */.
I think you do have to wait for the callback or you have to clean the
job_info->job before calling copy_info_to_job. Otherwise the job gets cancelled
and that's what causes this bug.

I don't have the big picture so I won't commit anything but I hope this
helps resolving this annoying bug..

Cheers, Chris

Version: 3.2.4+svn4837-0ubuntu2
Severity: important

No /boot/grub directory is created, and no menu.lst is created either.

Also, scripts/GRUB/10-setup looks for disk_vars.sh at
/target/var/log/fai/disk_var.sh, but that file does not exist. Instead,
it is located at one of several locations, notably:

/tmp/fai/disk_var.sh
/target/var/lib/fai/disk_var.sh
/target/var/log/fai//install-_xx/disk_var.sh
/live/cow/tmp/fai/disk_var.sh

[Bug 274859] [NEW] python is missing dependency on binutils

2008-09-26 Thread tow21
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python2.5

As of 2.5, python includes a function:

ctypes.util.find_library

for finding dynamic libraries.

On Linux, this is implemented by calling objdump under the hood. objdump
in ubuntu comes from binutils, ergo python now has a dependency on
binutils.

In the absence of binutils, attempts to use this function simply fail
silently, with no indication of the reason for failure.

After the latest kernel update, I sometimes get a kernel oops when I put

[Bug 274459] Re: Copy & paste from Konqueror to thunderbird does not work at all

2008-09-26 Thread Magnus Lundborg
I can confirm that I have the same problem. The only difference is that
I can use the middle mouse button to paste into thunderbird, but I
cannot use paste using Ctrl-V or from the Edit menu. What I copy from
Konqueror can be pasted into other applications.

I have tested this using
konqueror 4:4.1.1-0ubuntu1~hardy1~ppa1 together with
2.0.0.16+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1 (both in Hardy)
and
konqueror 4:4.1.1-0ubuntu2 together with 2.0.0.17+nobinonly-0ubuntu1 (in
Intrepid)

I have not tested if this problem occurs with some other programs too.
