[Bug 274859] Re: python is missing dependency on binutils
I can do this, but afaics, that shouldn't be necessary, this is nothing to do with developing python programs. I have a perfectly good python application, which relies on find_library to find a dynamic library at run-time. (for what it's worth, this is geodjango, which wants to be able to get at libgeos_c.so) Since I don't have python-dev installed (because I don't want to develop a new python program, I just want to run an existing one), then my application keeps failing - it can't find the dynamic libraries it needs, because find_library keeps on returning None. It took me quite a while to track down the fact that it was due to binutils missing. Therefore, I contend that this is not a development feature, this is simply required for the Python runtime, and as such is still a bug, so I'm reopening it. ** Changed in: python2.5 (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- python is missing dependency on binutils https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274859 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 275977] Re: Setting the Virtual resolution should be easier
I'll plan to do some testing of this in coming days. I've reviewed the changes in detail and think they look good. seb128 has also had a chance to look and gave an ok for upload. I agree this is a bug fix rather than a new feature. Note that an earlier upload provided a preliminary fix, such that it will add the Virtual option necessary for dual head. However the earlier fix was a bit clunky and potentially confusing to users (requiring extra restarts and re-running the config tool); this upload removes that clunkiness and ensures for a smooth user experience. I'll report back when I've had a chance to run it and play with it a bit. -- Setting the Virtual resolution should be easier https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275977 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 275994] [NEW] apt-get must use faster download algorithms or aria2 as a backend downloader
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: apt apt-get apparently currently uses some simple wget-type sequential download algorithm for all its functions that download anything from the net, like update, install, dist-upgrade, upgrade, build-dep, source etc. This really does not well use the available broadband bandwidth of most users. Hence I am forced to use home-cooked scripts to extract the URLs to download and then pass them to aria2 (GPL) to download, so that the thing is done faster. Granted, the user may not want his entire bandwidth hogged by apt-get, but at least provide this as an option -- use a faster split-download algorithm, or at least use a good backend downloader like aria2 which provides high-speed downloading. ** Affects: apt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- apt-get must use faster download algorithms or aria2 as a backend downloader https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275994 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

On Intrepid KDE 4 there's a systray icon saying "Printer 'DCP-120C': 'cups-missing-filter'". By clicking on it there doesn't come jockey or adept to install the Brother packages (as I expected) but only the Document Print Status window what's obviously useless. I don't even know exactly which application this icon belongs to but as it's a python application ("killall python" kills it) I guess it's System Config Printer. [Bug 275984] Re: ufw FFe to upgrade to 0.23
** Description changed: Binary package hint: ufw ufw 0.23 fixes 3 bugs and makes status reporting and improves command feedback. Specifically, it fixes the following issues: 1. show protocol in status when no ports are specified (bug #263308) 2. update after*.rules when setting the default policy (bug #273278) 3. give useful error message when trying to delete a non-existing rule (bug #251136) Other changes are updates to the README, TODO, Makefile (not used in build), suppressing output of empty lines, and updates to the test suite (for the above fixes). Rationale: - bug #263308 causes inaccurate status output with rules like (ufw allow to any proto udp). bug #273278 causes confusion when using a default allow policy with logging enabled, because ufw logs packets with 'UFW BLOCK' in the log message (clearly wrong). bug #251136 causes confusion because ufw would simply say 'Rules updated' when nothing was actually updated when deleting a non-existent rule. + bug #263308 causes inaccurate status output with rules like (ufw allow to any proto udp). bug #273278 causes confusion when using a default allow policy with logging enabled, because ufw logs packets with 'UFW BLOCK' in the log message even though the packets aren't actually blocked. bug #251136 causes confusion because ufw would output 'Rules updated' when deleting a non-existent rule when nothing was actually updated. 0.23 has also been tested against gufw, and introduced no regressions in gufw. -- ufw FFe to upgrade to 0.23 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275984 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 275984] [NEW] ufw FFe to upgrade to 0.23
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ufw ufw 0.23 fixes 3 bugs and makes status reporting and improves command feedback. Rationale: bug #263308 causes inaccurate status output with rules like (ufw allow to any proto udp). bug #273278 causes confusion when using a default allow policy with logging enabled, because ufw logs packets with 'UFW BLOCK' in the log message (clearly wrong). bug #251136 causes confusion because ufw would simply say 'Rules updated' when nothing was actually updated when deleting a non-existent rule. 0.23 has also been tested against gufw, and introduced no regressions in gufw. ** Affects: ufw (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- ufw FFe to upgrade to 0.23 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275984 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 275977] [NEW] Setting the Virtual resolution should be easier
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center FFE request: The following patches will make the process extremely easy for users so that: 1) the user tries to enable an external monitor (a la xinerama) 2) if screen-resolution-extra is installed: she is asked the permission to change the virtual resolution and then she's told to log out and log back in. Otherwise if screen-resolution-extra is not installed: she is asked to install screen-resolution-extra (with just a mouse click) and to log out and log back in. Either way her settings are saved in ~/.config/monitos.xml.desired 3) On next login, if everything's ok (i.e. the connected outputs are the same and the framebuffer is enough), the gnome-settings-daemon will load the settings from ~/.config/monitos.xml.desired and the user will have her multiple screens layout automatically applied without problems. This will require: 1 patch for gnome-desktop (which is used by gnome-settings-daemon) 1 patch for gnome-control-center (which uses gnome-desktop and screen-resolution-extra, the latter being only an option, not a dependency) an update of screen-resolution-extra so that it only applies the settings without duplicating the calculation of the required framebuffer (now done in gnome-desktop) See the debdiffs attached below. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Wishlist Assignee: Alberto Milone (albertomilone) Status: New -- Setting the Virtual resolution should be easier https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275977 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yes, it's reproducible ins some way: Every time the screen saver comes after hibernate that I've got this problem. I'm using "Euphoria", that's an OpenGL screen saver. But it happened once or twice that neither the screen saver nor the login window appeared after hibernate. But I guess that's an other problem at all. To solve this, I used the following: - Reboot and choose the "recovery mode" from the boot selection menu - Choose "drop into root shell" from the recovery menu - Execute the command: dpkg --purge libpam-smbpass After that you can reboot into normal mode and everything should be ok. -- pam_smbpass.so segfaults https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260687 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 274681] Re: g-p-m is reporting 2 separate voltage/power levels
This issue is caused by patch 19_fix_notification_messages.patch According to gnome svn, the patch should be made in gpm_cell_array_get_time_until_action. However, "debian/rules patch" applies it in gpm_cell_array_update. Apparently, because upstream already made the change in gpm_cell_array_get_time_until_action, patch gets confused and applies the patch 90 lines later in gpm-cell-array.c: gnome-power-manager-2.24.0$ patch -p1 < ../19_fix_notification_messages.patch patching file src/gpm-cell-array.c Hunk #1 succeeded at 270 with fuzz 2 (offset 90 lines). I have rebuilt gpm 2.24.0 without this patch, and can confirm this fixes both issues: - charge percentages shown in mouse-over and left-click are now equal - battery voltage in power history is now constant, as expected (bug 275845) -- g-p-m is reporting 2 separate voltage/power levels https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274681 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 263019] Re: Problem with keyboard shortcuts
It is reproducible if you use a Dell Inspiron 6400 or if you have a "media direct" button at the top of your keyboard, I think. To recreate the bug, go to system -> preference -> keyboard shortcut (In french, it's "raccourci clavier", but I don't know in english. It may be "hotkeys") and assign the "media direct" button to "launch a terminal" (you can read 0xed). Click on close, try your recently assigned shortcut and you'll notice that it doesn't work. The button works if I assign it to "open home directory" or other action, but not "launch a terminal". [Bug 260687] Re: pam_smbpass.so segfaults
I got this problem after removing samba. I think it may be a problem that libpam-smbpass depends on samba without that being defined. You can remove samba, leave samba-common and libpam-smbpass and you will have this problem. Stupid thing is that every sudo fails also, so removing the libpam-smbpass will require me to enter single user mode and work from there (telinit 1). With sudo failing, there is no way to fix this without that. The following dmesg entries are shown (and repeated for every type of sudo command): [ 4940.176470] sudo[9337]: segfault at 0 ip 7f5c6e480d6c sp 7fff783b9fe0 error 4 in pam_smbpass.so[7f5c6e419000+149000] I have this problem on Ubuntu Intrepid on x86_64 with the latest updates. -- pam_smbpass.so segfaults https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260687 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 275742] Re: Ubuntu 8.10alpha6 failed to start on Dell Vostro 200
Thanks for your bug report! In addition to what you already tried, I would be interesting to know if ubuntu LiveCD can start if you use a different device than your current CD drive to start the Live environment. I know two ways to do this, in case you want to try the adventure : 1. External USB CD drive, in case you have one. Vostro 200 should be able to boot from such devices. 2. LiveUSB, there is many ways to create LiveUSB pen drive described in ubuntu wiki, and even a tool exist to do it from a computer that is running the LiveCD : http://klik.atekon.de/liveusb/ In case you want to try it, there is also some chances to recover useful debugging informations if you want to try these instructions : 1. Plug a USB key that has only one partition in fat32 filesystem to your computer and try to boot it with the LiveCD. 2. When you get to the busybox prompt, type all following commands : mkdir /mnt/USB mount -t vfat /dev/sdb1 /mnt/USB lspci -nnvv > /mnt/USB/lspci-nnvv.log dmesg > /mnt/USB/dmesg.log uname -a > /mnt/USB/uname-a.log cat /proc/version_signature > /mnt/USB/version.log umount /dev/sdb1 3. Disconnect your USB key, it should now contains 4 .log files that you can attach to this message and that will give a lot of informations about your hardware and about the problem. -- Ubuntu 8.10alpha6 failed to start on Dell Vostro 200 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275742 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
