I believe we have actually two bugs here: 1) some dates aren't converted correctly when displayed, and 2) the EXIF DateTimeOriginal is modified even though f-spot should never modify it automatically. I've been having this problem for a while also. Has anyone else been messing with the compositing manager with metacity? I had it on, then after I turned it off, I began having the problems. I just turned it back on (took 3 tries logging on to get it working) and so far, no crashes. I have a Texas Instrument USR2216 Wireless PCI card. It has an ACX100 chip. I haven't been using the card this past two years, but it has been sitting in my PCI slot. My system works fine in 8.04. After upgrading to 8.10, I can only boot up to the log in screen. Either typing in my username or hitting Alt-F1 would cause the computer to hang, with numlock and scrolllock lights blinking. I cannot reboot with Ctlr-Alt-Del. This is with the 2.6.27-7-generic kernel. With 8.10 live CD, my computer would hang after choosing the keyboard type. Atheros wireless used to work with 2.6.24-21-generic until a recent update (October 29 or November 7, 2008 - sorry, unsure which one did it, as I did not use this kernel recently until after both updates were done). Problem Symptoms: - No wireless connection or signal bars shown. - Network Settings applet showing no Wireless entry at all. - Network Admin applet saying "The interface does not exist" - Connection Properties applet showing ath0 > Status: Error To be able to use wireless, I've gone back to the old, reliable (for me) 2.6.20-16-generic (sorry, I did not have time to test other available kernel versions between 2.6.20-16-generic and 2.6.24-21-generic). Weird problem... My system stills have problems after desinstalling virtualbox a reinstall and reconfiguring kernel too... The weird think is that sometimes boots up correctly and sometines not. I quit at /boot/grub/menu.lst the quiet option. If during boot I changed to Virtual Consoles: Crtl+Alt+F1 an Ctrl+Alt+F2 the system boots whithout read only problem. But if I boot without doing nothing then I have the read only problem I see during boot a problem with mount (It says something like "Note that one no really mount a device."). I think this is the help message of mount command when you miss some parameters. I think I've narrowed this down to a regression between cups 1.3.9-2 and cups 1.3.9-2ubuntu1. On a fresh install this works as expected. After applying the cups 1.3.9-2ubuntu1 update it's broken. Downgrading cups makes it work again. This bug should be reopened. I can confirm that it is still happening in Intrepid with Baobab 2.24.1, which now appears to be part of the gnome- utils package. (This bug should probably be reassigned to that package, or to gvfs as well.) Just a few days ago, I upgraded my workstation to Ibex. The system is pretty much the fresh install. I've hardly installed or tweaked anything. Today, whenever I select text in a web and right click, I get the same warning reported here. After I dispel the assert pop-up, the right click menu displays normally, but Google search does not work (causes the assert to appear again). The text associated with Google in the right-click menu is also wrong. It's stuck at "You are currently..." no matter what text I select. Also got this error trying to paste a URL into the URL bar. The only unusual circumstance is that one of my network switches has been balky lately. I have to power cycle it every so often. I wouldn't expect network interruptions to affect Firefox in this way. Also, I don't recall it behaving this way on the day of installation, but I've used the system so little since the upgrade, I'm not sure I even tried the right click menu until today. So wolfram changed the download link to the mathfonts package. the bad thing is that it doesn't roll back the changes or anything, just leaves it in a state that you can't remove it and you can't actually get it to install either.
