Now the problem is the line starting with "; from". This line is not a valid
line in an email message
header. Since it belongs to the preceding line it should start with some
whitespace.

There are two possibilities:
a) Yahoo fails to add the Authentication-Results header in the correct format.
b) KMail corrupts the header when it receives the message.

I think b is highly unlikely because we would have noticed if there was such a
serious bug in
KMail. a, OTOH, is probably not noticed by many other people because other mail
clients are
probably more forgiving when they encounter such an invalid line in the header.
You should be
able to verify whether it's Yahoo's fault by checking your mail with another
mail client and then
looking at the source with this other mail client. Just make sure you do not
check those
messages with KMail because that might corrupt them.

Regards,
Ingo

[Bug 91895] Re: RTL8111/8168B hangs whole PC (r8169) in feisty

2008-11-19 Thread Achim
Timothy have you tried to use hardy or intrepid?

You are referring to relative old reports, the kernel bug report is from 2006!
If you have still problems with your chip in combination with hardy or intrepid
you should fill a new report with sufficient information.

Maybe you have another version of that chip.

$ lspci | grep Ethernet
05:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI
Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 01)

Do you have exactly the same lan chip?
I don't have any problems with it. I transfer very big files over gigabit
ethernet.

Achim

[Bug 144322] Re: interlacing broken in gutsy on radeon/ati open source driver

2008-11-19 Thread Naez
Yes, I can confirm that if I have 2 working modelines (tested in powerstrip)
and I switch between them using
xrandr -display :0.0 -s 1 and xrandr -display :0.0 -s 0 alternately, I can see
that initially I get the bug, but after switching I get both modes working
fine. Could this be remedied in the newer 6.9 Version available in 8.10 ?

[Bug 275410] Re: firefox wrapper script breaks sensible-browser, gnome-www-browser, and firefox-3.0

2008-11-19 Thread petski
Marcel, just update using UpdateManager or simular and you shouldn't
suffer from bug 275410 anymore. In case the Gnome Terminal and aMSN bug
still persist, I'd advise you to create a new bugreport in Launchpad.
Before you do so:

In Gnome Terminal: Right click on the link and click "Open link" to see what
happens
In aMSN: In the userlist, press Ctrl-P and go to the "Other"-tab to see what
"Browser" is set to. In my case it was set to "firefox"

[Bug 297842] Re: Thunar segfaults on powerpc (rebuild needed)

2008-11-19 Thread Leslie Viljoen
** Description changed:

Thunar segfaults immediately when run on a G4 (PowerPC) Mac Mini.
xfdesktop crashes almost as quickly (I had to click on a desktop icon).

Here's my adventures with this bug:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=977120

I did an "apt-get source" in order to debug the problem but found that
after I'd rebuilt Thunar with dpkg-buildpackage, it worked fine. I then
rebuilt xfdesktop4 with the same results.

I eventually built working packages for everyone:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=6163764&postcount=21
...but it would be better if these packages were just rebuilt and distributed
via "apt-get upgrade".

I have tried comparing the working and non-working binaries and it looks
to me like there might have been an incorrect version of a library when
they were built - possibly libglib. See my comments in the forum about
it - it may be a good idea to discover what happened because perhaps
other packages should also be rebuilt.
+
+ ---
+ SRU requirements
+
+ Impact of this bug: the primary file manager for Xubuntu cannot be run
+ and Xubuntu's desktop manager also crashes frequently.
+
+ Fix: no source changes, just a package rebuild. Since I can't see what
+ libraries are in use on the build machine, I can't say what went wrong.
+ I am happy to test any new package builds before they are released, or
+ to assist in comparing the official build environment to mine.
+
+ I rebuilt the packages with an installed Xubuntu system like so:
+ 1. sudo apt-get build-dep thunar
+ 2. apt-get source thunar
+ 3. cd thunar-0.9.0
+ 4. debuild -b
+
+ Patch: not required.
+
+ Regression potential: none.
+
+ Detailed instructions how to reproduce the bug. These should allow
+ someone who is not familiar with the affected package to reproduce the
+ bug and verify that the updated package fixes the problem. You can use
+ this template:
+
+ TEST CASE
+
+ PROCEDURE:
+ 1. install Xubuntu
+ 2. click on the "places" icon on the panel
+
+ or (in Ubuntu)
+ 1. install Thunar
+ 2. run Thunar
+
+ RESULT ON PASS:
+ Thunar runs without a segmentation fault
+
+ RESULT ON FAIL:
+ Thunar crashes immediately with a segmentation fault.

[Bug 230062] Re: openjdk missing motif 2.1 library

Is this problem specific to amd64? I can compile and run the program

Or is the case of compiling program with Sun JDK and trying to run with

Confirm that you are testing 3.2.3-1ubuntu3.1~ppa1

[Bug 53102] Re: Ext3 filesystem corruption - data loss

2008-11-19 Thread hardcorelinux
Folks, I can confirm that the data corruption issue on my V3228 is gone with
the latest kernel update on Ibex.
Linux 2.6.27-8 #1 SMP Thu Nov 6 17:38:14 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I no longer have to use iommu=soft option in boot params and the
suspend/resume works flawlessly.

I still wonder though, what the actual fix was.

If you tried to install the Sun debs and they failed report that to the

I tried to update from the ubuntu supplied Open Office 2.4 something to
Open Office 3.0 from Open Office. Used their .deb package. It totally
screwed up my system, would not install, some kind of dependency
problems. so uninstalled 3.0, then redid 2.4 something, more
dependency.

In my opinion all caused by ubuntu making a decision not to provide 3.0.
At present downloading Fedora, maybe they do not make stupid decisions
not to supply most up todate software, stick with out dated.

2008-11-19 Thread jmattock78
Ahh so, after spending weeks, months, years trying to figure this out
it ended up being a simple fix:(remember once hotplugging is disable, you need
xorg.conf).

Section "ServerFlags"
 Option "AutoAddDevices" "False"
EndSection

the cause is the removal of evdev:

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(II) config/hal: Adding input device applesmc
(**) applesmc: always reports core events
(**) applesmc: Device: "/dev/input/event8"
(II) applesmc: Found x and y absolute axes
(WW) applesmc: Don't know how to use device

[Bug 299126] Re: f-spot hangs-up sometimes doing various operations

2008-11-19 Thread marco.pallotta
Pedro, unfortunately I couldn't reproduce the issue with rigorous steps.
Yesterday, in order to re-tag my photos, I did various tag searches and at the
end my f-spot hanged-up (I waited for it for some minutes and at the end I
killed it).
I know that this is vague. If you agree I will try to debug f-spot every time I
launch it (I have to re-tag all my photos as I have sayd before) and I will
wait for its hanging up.
I haven't any other ideas. The sure thing is that f-spot hangs up sometimes
with tag search.

** Summary changed:

- f-spot hangs-up sometimes doing various operations
+ f-spot hangs-up, sometimes, doing tag search

** Description changed:

- Sometimes f-spot crashes doing various operations. Today it has hanged up
doing a simple tag search (double click on a tag) and changing icon dimension
(with the lower right control).
+ Sometimes f-spot hangs-up doing tag search (double click on a tag).
I know that this report is not much accurate but I haven't other elements yet.
I hope that with .xsession-error (that I will attach) you can find something
useful to debug this issues.

My system is Hardy Heron x86-64 and f-spot is the version 0.4.3.1

share a lot of the same code.
Other programs such as Eclipse or gnometrics does not behave like this.

[Bug 194638] Re: Compiz gets into a state where going fullscreen in apps causes an X11 BadAlloc error

2008-11-19 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
FYI, I hadn't seen this for a while, but then today it happened a lot
when I was trying to play a 1080p video. So it's probably more likely
with larger video resolutions. Which of course would make sense.

[Bug 300206] [NEW] Secondary instance of quanta becomes unresponsive

2008-11-19 Thread bobdobbs
Public bug reported:

I'm running quanta 3.5.10 on ubuntu 8.10.

My initial instance of quanta will generally run as I expect, and close
when I kill it explicitly.

However, if I want to run a second instance, this second instance will
eventually become unresponsive.

Attempting to close the window will fail, but a dialog will eventually come up,
saying that the application is
not responding, and giving me the option to force it to quit.

I can go back to my original instance and use it as normal.

Is there any way I can debug (step through) alsa (using ddd for

I e-mailed the ubuntu-docs mailing list and the only response was from

[Bug 300194] [NEW] import feeds from firefox into akregator

2008-11-19 Thread Bernhard
Public bug reported:

There is a bug when I set akregator as default RSS reader and I want to
import feeds directly from firefox.

So say I have akregator installed and set it as default application for
RSS feeds in firefox. Then I can click on the RSS symbol in the location
bar and akregator will automatically import this feed. So far, so good.
But there is one problem: the imported URL is always wrong and for a
very simple reason, it looks something like

http:newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/

i.e. it's always http:... which cannot be right since it's 4 /'s. My
akregator version is 1.3.1 (KDE 4.1.2).

[Bug 300193] [NEW] The realtime kernel is unstable on VIA MII (modules crash, i/o problems, does not shut down)

2008-11-19 Thread Johan Ehnberg
Public bug reported:

I tried the kernel on my Via MII 1,2 Ghz Mini-ITX, but encountered quite
a few problems.

The kernel reports a lot of crashes, which are most probably the cause of much
of this. See the attachment.
I can't get good latencies with the programs I want, such as jackd. In fact,
latencies are better with the generic kernel.
I can't get good I/O performance like with the generic kernel, such as
streaming video to mythfrontends.
I can't shut down the computer, it hangs at one point. A Ctrl+C gets me a bit
further but it still hangs.

I'd be happy to help out with testing -rt on this hardware. I will also
soon test the Hardy kernel to see if there's any difference.

Re: [Bug 286828] Re: Access to samba<3.0.26 shares using CIFS is broken on 8.10

2008-11-19 Thread Steve French
The "nodfs" option was added by this patch:

http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=2c1b861539c15491593625920058e06452cd3747

which went in right after 2.6.27 came out so will be in 2.6.28. The
patch is small and could be added to this 2.6.27 distro kernel easily
enough. Apparently most distros did not ship the two problematic
Samba versions on their server, or have done a mandatory upgrade,
which is why we don't see this problem (server parsing of dfs paths)
more often.

[Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime

2008-11-19 Thread Endolith
"I do not know if it is Dell or Ubuntu that is at fault here"

Doesn't matter who's at fault. What matters is Ubuntu implementing a
workaround so they aren't destroying their users' hardware. I don't
understand why this says "Fix Released" on it when it's clearly not
fixed.

sorry, this might just because I never logged on a zh_* desktop on this
machine, and /etc/fonts/conf.avail/69-language-selector-zh-*.conf was
not linked to conf.d.

Hmm, I'm willing to put this together if I can get it working. I'm

provide a source package (maybe they're just using something like

[Bug 292098] Re: okular can't presentation fullscreen

2008-11-19 Thread Guillermo Belli
I can confirm this, Okular does not go full-screen in presentation mode.

I'm using Kubuntu Intrepid AMD64 and x86, KDE 4.1.3, Okular 0.7.3.

It happens with my portable conputer with GF7600 video card, with free
and restricted nvidia driver. Also happens on a Dell desktop with intel
graphics.

It happens with a clean fresh profile.

It hapens with every document/image I have tested.

This bug was reported against Ubuntu 8.10. Segfaults in cupsd due to
both pam_smbpass and apparmor being enabled are a known bug in the
version of apparmor that shipped in Ubuntu 8.04 - but this was resolved
in an update almost immediately after the 8.04 release.

If you do not already have the hardy-updates repository enabled in
System -> Administration -> Software Sources, you should.

That bug was never present in Ubuntu 8.10 and is unrelated to this bug
report.

[Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime

2008-11-19 Thread hasan
I purchased a DELL XPS M1530 with linux preloaded specifically in order
to avoid having to deal with this bug (which killed my last laptops
hard-drive), but to my shock, once I installed 8.10 on the XPS, the load
cycle count was still increasing at an alarming rate (+1 every 10secs).

I am really disappointed that more than one year after its discovery
this bug continues to plague Ubuntu. I do not know if it is Dell or
Ubuntu that is at fault here, but the current situation is clearly
unacceptable. We need our hard disks to last.

Hi,
Am sorry I can't be of any more help with Intrepid. I gaveup on it sometime

for the basic operations. Network manager for one is a nightmare. You can
mark this bug invalid if the other guys do not respond to it.

Re: [Bug 293044] Re: Unable to suspend to RAM on a HP dv6602 laptop

Oh well if I am the only one affected from this bug it is of no use to start
looking into the problem. Please mark this bug invalid and hopefully it will
be fixed in the next version (I am really praying god). By the way I
stumbled upon another bug a couple of days ago I strongly suspect it is in
someway related to this issue. Also, many people with HP device have
reported this problem (this includes me also). Here is the link:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/272247. There is a work around posted there
do you think it could be the cause of this problem? If yes please let me
know.

Not sure why this bug didn't get closed with the sync, but 1.1.0.dfsg-1
is in the archives now.

[Bug 201650] Re: [fglrx] atieventsd crashed with SIGSEGV in XextAddDisplay

2008-11-19 Thread Charles Marslett
I've let the system not install any updates for a couple of weeks, then
blasted them all at once (the only thing that seems to trigger this) and
neither an update of 86 or so files nor the version update to Intrepid
(1600 or so files) resulted in any such failures, so it may be fixed.

Re: [Bug 213206] Re: SoundMAX AD1988B- no digital audio

2008-11-19 Thread Robert E. Walsh
1. I did get this to work following suggested configurations from the
ubuntu community.
I will follow up with the exact changes in a subsequent email.
2. I am running the 64-bit version of ubuntu although I don't think
that matters
here. 32-bit versus 64-bit is irrelevant to the issue.
3. there is a multimedia group in the ubuntu web support community that
provided useful
suggestions.

[Bug 270374] Re: [intrepid] enter a computer name then hit enter, list stays on screen and steals input

2008-11-19 Thread Aaron C. de Bruyn
This happens with desktop effects on or off. The quick solution is to
switch to a virtual console (Ctrl+Alt+F1), login, and type 'sudo killall
tsclient', then hit Ctrl+d to logout.
