[Bug 282186] Re: HP Photosmart 2610 top first cm not printed

2008-11-20 Thread Till Kamppeter
All is going the correct way for you. You are using the correct filter
and PPD file. It seems that the hpijs driver is clipping the borders
according to the PPD settings.

If I run a command line like

cupsfilter -m application/vnd.cups-pdf -p
/etc/cups/ppd/Photosmart_C8100_series.ppd /usr/share/system-config-
printer/testpage-a4.ps > output.pdf

and display the output with evince, the borders are cut with the
original pstopdf and not touched with my new pstopdf. The command line
runs the filter chain without the final driver step (in our case pstopdf
and pdftopdf). It shows that pdftopdf does not clip the margins.

[Bug 274995] Re: MASTER storing ALSA mixer element values during shutdown hangs nondeterministically if non-loopback network interfaces are still up

2008-11-20 Thread Robb Topolski
Even though they have a lot in common, I'm convinced these issues have
two different root causes, but I'm also hopeful that the change for bug
126140 will also avoid ours (bug 274995).

Bug 126140 is about certain PCs that remain powered up at the end of
their shutdown sequence. Anyone remember the Windows "It is now safe to
turn off your computer" screen? That's essentially the behavior of bug
126140, minus the cheery-souding Microsoft comforting.

Both that problem and ours
... can be avoided by rmmod -f snd_hda_intel (the sound driver)
 ... generally involved Alsa
 ... interrupted normal shutdown

But
 ... 274995 is not actually a hang ... 126140 actually is a hang
 ... 274995 has a networking workaround ... 126140 seems to have a
power-management workaround

The "fix" for bug 126140 isn't r-e-a-l-l-y a fix because it doesn't
address the root cause (which certainly could be a BIOS oddness), but it
does avoid it. Before the hang, the code will now respond to a system
reboot signal by releasing the interrupts. It was tested against the
problem in 126140. If the net effect of releasing the interrupts is the
same as "rmmod -f snd_hda_intel" then it should also avoid our problem
as well. We should test it. If it does, we should also make sure
that nothing else broke in the process -- for example, does the shutdown
in /etc/init.d/alsa-tools still save and zero mixer settings like it was
written to do?

My suggestion is that we don't call these duplicate bugs until such
testing is complete, even though we are hopeful that this one change
avoids both issues.

[Bug 300494] Re: High CPU temperature

2008-11-20 Thread zeroed
Martin, thanks. I will do it a little later.

I have updated my 8.04 and everything is still ok. So seems like problem
only in 8.10.

BTW, the workarround that you have send me can be applied only to Dell
computers, but I have found another bug reports and people do not have
Dell.

So this is actually not a solution. Will wait a little more, maybe the
correct solution will be found soon.

[Bug 291074] Re: memory leak in Network Manager Intrepid

I did fresh ubuntu 8.10 install (amd64). My only network connection was
pci-wlan and it didn't work. (No wpa/wep. Open and visible essid.)
Networkmanager used memory more and more, until it used 1.9G (of 2G, no swap).
Then system kills it automatically and wlan starts to work.
Wlan works with ubuntu 8.04 out-of-box.

[Bug 298594] Re: Wrong file names in Kile's errors and warnings summary

2008-11-20 Thread Yossi Gil
I finally managed to compile 2.02.
It turns out that Kile needs the kdelibs4-dev pakcage
so you need to

sudo apt-get install kdelibs4-dev

The older KDE libraries which I installed were not sufficient, and conused the
./configure script.
Installing the newer version will remove these older libraries.

It would be nice if KILE2.02 is made into an ubuntu package.

  Preferences.

This is the same window, the same software.

In fact « Software Preferences » in System > Administration is very
confusing because we don't know to which software it's related.

I suggest « Repositories manager», indeed this is my translation.

+
Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'update-
manager'; however, that package was not published in Baltix.

[Bug 120538] Re: id3 tag version differences result in confusing behaviour (e.g. rhythmbox, easytag)

2008-11-20 Thread Emmanuel Rodriguez
If you find the plugin in GStreamer's Bugzilla #459226 helpful
(http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459226) please leave a
comment in the upstream bugzilla. If more people find the plugin useful
and show interest then the bug could be closed faster and the plugin
could end up ip the next release of GStreamer. Also feel free to request
new features through the Bugzilla channel. As soon as I get some spare
time I will try to add them.

Did not work with skype and my ZC0301 webcam. Cheese worked before and

[Bug 274661] Re: Firefox freezes with various Flash Uploaders from different web pages

2008-11-20 Thread John Watson
The Flash related uploading problem in Wordpress 2.6.x is caused by a
change in Flash 10 made by Adobe. See
http://trac.wordpress.org/ticket/6979

I'm experiencing this with Flickr.com and Vimeo. The browser UI goes
grey and becomes unresponsive. BUT, the uploads do progress and
eventually complete and when they do the browser comes back to life. For
some reason the upload seems to be blocking the rest of the browser.

[Bug 293453] Re: ath5k_pci sudden high cpu ussage causes audio skips

2008-11-20 Thread Dimitrio Jacobo Rusell
important information.

my laptop connects to a wireless router over a password protected
(authenticated) connection, I was checking the system log and noticed
many backtraces from the kernel relating to the wireless driver, went to
network mannager applet, edit connection, filled in the BSSID setting
and check the box that says system setting, after this I open a couple
of network aware applications (gtk-gnutella, bittorrent client) open a
totem window start to listen stream radio, no skips, seems to me the wpa
disosiation and reasociation was taking place too often causing the
driver to spike the cpu ussage and therefore causing skips on the sound
system.

[Bug 213444] Re: Hardy Heron nfs (client) reports internal error when I attempt to mount with NFS

2008-11-20 Thread Owen PG
Jason,

My workaround since 8.04 has been to add the "noauto" option to the line in
/etc/fstab - and then mount it from a command prompt when the desktop is booted
and logged in. If it fails the first time, try again. In your case:
"sudo mount /home/jason/Sync"

FWIW, Not that I'm an expert but for reliability and then to speed it
back up, I use TCP rather than UDP and increase the window sizes. This
leaves me with the following options:

rsize=32768,wsize=32768,proto=tcp,noauto

You might want to try them as well as noauto.

Good luck,

Owen

[Bug 131764] Re: Gnochm doesn't display russian text correctly

2008-11-20 Thread Anatoly Galiulin
This issue is still present in official 8.10.

Problem in /usr/bin/gnochm, in function repl_entities(text):

subs = entitydefs[match.group("str")].decode(
'latin-1').encode('utf-8')

Perhaps it needs default encoding setting that user may set in
preferences?

[Bug 282240] Re: Sound volume control goes crazy

2008-11-20 Thread Casey Watson
+1 here.

I am using the sound device "PnP Audio Device USB Audio (OSS)". I hear
sound but the mixer controls have no effect and the master volume
control does jump around when dragging the slider.

In Sound Preferences if I try to test using the "PnP Audio Device USB
Audio (ALSA)" device, I get the following error.

> audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample !
> gconfaudiosink:
