[Bug 292576] Re: I just tried to install the package, but something broke. :(

2008-11-22 Thread Scott Kitterman
Uploaded. Thank you for your contribution to Ubuntu. The package for
Intrepid will need to be manually accepted by and archive administrator
before it appears in intrepid-proposed for testing.

[Bug 259168] Re: Network Manager unable to connect to PPTP VPN (bad NT-Domain escaping)

2008-11-22 Thread 1longtime
@Alexander Sack RE: "1longtime, your issue is most likely bug 268667"

This was the first one I tried and bug 268667 fixed my problem. Thanks
Alexander. After trying the suggested fix in that bug, my VPN connects
successfully.

Oddly, when I tried to "undo" the fix, it continued to connect properly.

@Martin Pitt RE: intrepid-proposed updates

I did an "apt-get upgrade" with entrepid-proposed sources several days
ago, before verified the source had updated (and accidentally updated
quite a bit more than I expected... oops). I just did another apt-get
update/upgrade and found updates for a number of packages, including a
couple of pptp packages.

The VPN problem is still fixed, but because I couldn't rollback the
fixes from bug 268667 we can't be certain that the updates fixed my
issue.

@jmcantrell

Could not find advanced-dialog.c. I'm not sure how to apply your patch.

Another side-note: manually adding "refuser-eap" to ppp options fixed
ONE of my Ubuntu boxes but not the other (the one I've been fighting
with in this thread). Strange.

Thanks all for the help, but it was a very disruptive bug. Kinda shakes
the faith a bit...

[Bug 301203] [NEW] slabtop --once seems to exit without output

2008-11-22 Thread Xaprb
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: procps

According to slabtop --help, I should be able to say -o or --once and
see just one display, then it should exit. But it just runs without any
visible output:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ slabtop --once
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ slabtop --once

If I pipe it into less, I see that it in fact does output some stuff,
but then apparently wipes the terminal clean as curses exits (?).

The desired behavior should be to print the output to STDOUT without
using curses, just like 'top -n 1' does.

My system is

[Bug 301206] [NEW] [regression] wesnoth has horribly crackling sound

2008-11-22 Thread Fridtjof Busse
Public bug reported:

This bug might be related to #243345 and/or #66483, but I have this problem
starting with intrepid and the other bugs are much older, it used to work fine
with hardy on my hardware.
wesnoth has a horribly crackling sound on several effects (like the sound a
turn-start).
I tried changing the sample_rate, loaded the audio-driver snd_hda_intel with
position-fix=2 and set the in-game volume to 100%.
Nothing helps, the sound is still horrible.
This is definitly a regression from hardy.

[Bug 272975] Re: Draw opens 'Recent Documents' .odg document in Impress

2008-11-22 Thread Steve McInerney
Chris, your test is not duplicating the process to achieve the fault.

Startup Impress: Create an ODP. Save it as an ODP. Exit out of Impress.

Re Open the ODP in Impress - obviously.
Save it as an OD_G_. Exit Impress.

This is to simulate a series of changes/events that would normally occur
(and did) over several days to weeks.

Open OO Draw.
Via the Recent Documents in OO Draw, open the just saved ODG.
It will open in Impress. Not Draw.

If you open the ODG via the Open dialog, it will open correctly in OO
Draw. Via Recent Documents, it will not.

I have tried this and happily duplicated on 3 separate systems.
Including one fresh install.

There are no invalid associations. There are no OOo style added
associations at all.

[Bug 300935] [NEW] non-existent rgb.txt file and broken link to it

2008-11-22 Thread draco
Public bug reported:

Hi,

It seems the file /etc/X11/rgb.txt is not present after the installation of
Xubuntu 8.10 x86_64.
More over, the symbolic link /usr/share/X11/rgb.txt is also broken as you can
see below :

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ file /usr/share/X11/rgb.txt
/usr/share/X11/rgb.txt: broken symbolic link to `/etc/X11/rgb.txt'

The link is created by the package x11-common, but the file
/etc/X11/rgb.txt appears to be included in no package.

Here is my configuration :

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/.ZiK$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10
Codename: intrepid

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/.ZiK$ dpkg -s x11-common
Package: x11-common
Status: install ok installed
Priority: optional
Section: x11
Installed-Size: 748
Maintainer: Ubuntu Core Developers <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Architecture: all
Source: xorg
Version: 1:7.4~5ubuntu3

Is it possible to include the file /etc/X11/rgb.txt as it lists all the avaible
keyword for corresponding color in X11.
Personnaly, I think this bug must have a low-priority because it doesn't seems
to have a side effect on the system.

[Bug 86670] Re: Flurry of password requests make evolution unusable with down email server

2008-11-22 Thread carpii
I can confirm this bug still exists, in Evolution 2.22.3.1 running on
KDE 3.5.10 (basically Kubuntu 8.04)

There are some important points which the other bug reporters didnt
mention. Heres my setup (and the accounts are checked in this order)...

2 gmail POP accounts
2 virgin.net POP accounts

Evolution will occasionally act as though gmail authentication has
failed. I dont know whether this is really a fault on GMails servers, or
a bug in Evolution, but I've never had this problem with any other email
client using the same setup of accounts, and same frequency of checking

There is a definite bug in Evolution though, in that whenever gmail
authentication appears to fail, both of my Virgin.net accounts start
prompting for a password too. At this point even though the passwords
entered are correct, the virgin.net password prompts will repeatedly
appear until Cancel is clicked.

As with the other users, at this point if I click Send and Receive, all
4 email accounts authenticate correctly, which is why I dont think its a
problem with GMail servers at all.

Crucially, this only ever happens when the email accounts are being checked
automatically (ie, every 5 minutes.).
I have never had this problem after manually clicking Send / Receive

[Bug 213818] Re: thinkpad CPU overheat ubuntu hardy 8.04

2008-11-22 Thread panos
Same issue for me, Kubuntu 8.04 on a HP nx8220. I suffer from thermal
shutdowns due to heavy cpu loads. On several occasions (while running
cpu intensive apps) I also have nearly 90% cpu load from kacpid and
acpid_notify (there is another bug report elsewhere).

My cpu temperature is NOT updated (acpi displays constant 16 C, which is
of course ridiculous), and the fan is not spinning when cpu temp rises.
The problem appeared suddenly, I never had any issues with Hardy.
Booting into the Intrepid live cd made no difference. However, the
problem disappears when I boot with acpi=off. Hence, some acpi or
kernel bug makes ubuntu with acpi unusable, at least for me.

Really, this is not a "security" problem, and I don't really see how it
could be. however, it should be fixed, and I will work on this. This bug
is trivial to fix, so I will just fix it as opposed to removing
gaskpass.

Thanks for the bug report,
Ryan

[Bug 276530] Re: gaskpass does not grab focus

2008-11-22 Thread Ryan Niebur
I do not currently have a window manager that will let me try to reproduce this
bug, but once I can I will fix it.
It's not really a "security" risk, though. If a user is not paying enough
attention to notice they are twittering their passphrase, then that's their own
fault. Nevertheless, this is still probably an annoyance and should be fixed.

Thanks for the bug report,

try to operate the sliders before the call connects, they still seem to
snap back.

The ekiga version is still 2.0.12.

Status in “ekiga” source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
Binary package hint: ekiga

I am running Ubuntu 8.04 (32-bit) on an HP DV1000 Laptop.

I am running the v2.0.12-0ubuntu2 version of Ekiga.

When I go through the configuration druid, everything works fine. The
audio test passes using the default audio device and there is no problem
hearing myself on the 4-second echo. I am using the ALSA manager.

However, when I go to use the software, the audio sliders are stuck to
the left which means the audio levels are both zero.

If I call [EMAIL PROTECTED], it says that I am connected, but I don't hear
anything. I assume I am connected. The connected icon says I am
connected until I manually disconnect. The log says that the "Local user
cleared the call." It says "Registered Accounts: 1" so I think my
diamondcard.us account is all set.

Expected behavior: Audio sliders go to desired location, audio can be
heard.
What happened: Audio sliders go back to zero after letting go of mouse.

Leann Ogasawara : I confirm that this bug is *not* fixed with

bug. Installing Linux kernel from intrepid proposed bring back the bug
to life, so that probably means that the patch isn't applied to linux
kernel in -proposed.

I can now confirm the full desk top installation get into a similar
problem. After a long slow period it stops with the background image and
an almost empty install window. There are no active controls or anything
like that but the window colour is not quite flat.

Again the only way out is to switch the machine off. The machine was
happily running Suse 9.3 until I started this and Knoppix 5.3.1 runs
happily so it should be possible.

[Bug 300948] [NEW] openjdk : SystemTray.isSupported() bug

2008-11-22 Thread ®om
Public bug reported:

SystemTray.isSupported()
returns false with openjdk using gnome + compiz, while it returns true if I use
metacity instead of compiz.

This problem was known is sun-java, and should be corrected in java 6 update 10
: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6438179
"Specifically, it returns true only if the window manager is named "Metacity"
or "KWin".

As a result, impossible to make a java program which use systray for
people using compiz :(

[Bug 293252] Re: Ralink RT2501USB Wireless Adapter don't function

2008-11-22 Thread Nicola Jelmorini
Dear Leann,

many thanks for your care about this issue.

I'm sorry, but I have no idea how to apply a kernel patch or even build a
kernel from scratch.
I have to say that in my case this patch is not urgent, because I have other
wireless option, already functioning, to use. So I can wait until the next
kernel release, or normal update without force you to build a test kernel for
me.
Obviously I don't know if other Ubuntu user have more urgency than me.
My goal with this bug report was to help Ubuntu become more and more better
with more wireless hardware recognized.

In any case if you want that I test the patch with my Ralink pen you
have to give me a simple deb kernel package, so I will be able to
install it on my Ubuntu Intrepid 32 bit system.

best regards
Nj

[Bug 288401] Re: iwl3945 driver doesn't see !US wireless channels on UK laptop [intrepid regression]

2008-11-22 Thread Narj
I live in the UK and I had a similar problem to this with the b43
driver. It took me a very long time to work out what the issue was.
There definitely needs to be a GUI to set/override the location (both
for when it is determined wrongly and for when people move from one
geographical location to another).

By the way, prior to Intrepid, the connection process failed
mysteriously half-way through. At Intrepid, it didn't list the network n
the disallowed channel.
