[Bug 288594] Re: Chess board disappears after one move in 3d mode.

2008-11-23 Thread rfugger
No, I don't play any 3D games in Wine. I have noticed problems in
F-Spot photo manager with desktop effects enabled, namely that slideshow
transitions are shaky, and changing panel items (such as clock) show
through as a white square when they change. Maybe I should file under
desktop effects?

[Bug 291353] Re: Upgrading from 0.13.x to 0.14.0 wipes out ingredient database

2008-11-23 Thread Rolf Leggewie
you are probably right that we can get an SRU exception. But only with
a minimal patch. I attach the diff between the 0.14.0 and 0.14.2
version of src/lib/backends/db.py and there is a lot of new code. That
will need to get slimmed down to the absolute minimum if we want to have
a chance for an SRU.

Sounds similar to 14373 (fixed with commit ae986d1c73d), and could have a
similar cause.

Especially comment 18 hints at that
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/283128/comments/18

Do you have the above commit in your tree?
Is there a difference between the output of "xkbcomp -xkb :0 -" before and
after it occurs?

Cheers,
 Peter

[Bug 300547] Re: Please merge modconf 0.3.9 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2008-11-23 Thread Nick Ellery
Hi Daniel,

- Not sure why I put that part in the changelog entry, but the same change was
made in Ubuntu, so I've removed that.
- I've tested this, and it appears to run properly.
- The "cd build/linux-source-$(version26)" change was Ubuntu-specific, then
carried over to Debian later, where that line was removed. I went with the
Ubuntu version, but since it was removed in Debian, it should probably be
synced with it.

I'm attaching a new debdiff with the mentioned changes.

Pulseaudio is gone.
Everythings alsa.
Sound doesn't work at all.
I have a weird thing from when I was running inferior software where I unUSBed
without clicking and it killed sound and my inverter board. But under Kubuntu
my magical boyfriend wiggled the settings and got it to work.
I got a little sound at one time but now.. nothing.
Is there any way to activate slider bars (not just on mute, no bar) in alsa?

When I click on menus such as a bookmark toolbar subfolder, I expect it to
drop down beneath the folder.
Instead it shows up on the first screen regardless if firefox is on the first
or second screen/viewport.

The same behavior was also in Ubuntu Desktop 8.04.
+
+
+ EDIT:
+
+ I've noticed that this occurs only if firefox was started when there were one
screen, and then you extend the viewport to the second screen with xrandr and
then move the browser/email client to the new screen.
+ If you kill/shutdown the applications and start it on the second screen the
menus show up on the second screen as it should.
+
+ This is still a bug though we have a workaround for it.

[Bug 251665] Re: Fn keys on VAIO don't produce keystrokes nor ACPI events

2008-11-23 Thread yleetiny
the use of fn-keys on vaio models depends on the module "sony-laptop"
previously named "sonypi".
so first, verify that the module is correctly loaded.
"lsmod | grep -i sony"
then, the link beetween the fn-keys module and traditionnal keycodes are made
through HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer ). If something goes wrong there, xev
and the traditionnal programs for keybiddings debug won't work.
I think your bug lies there.

[Bug 301218] Re: "User Switcher" has quit unexpectedly

2008-11-23 Thread Amir E. Aharoni
Nothing gets written to ~/.xsession-errors when this occurs. (I watched
it with tail -f )

When i tried it with another user account, i got a dialog box with this
error the first time:

---
The panel encountered a problem while loading
"OAFIID:GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet".

Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?
---

If i tried to add it manually, the behavior was the same as with my own
account.

[Bug 301524] [NEW] thinkpad brightness controls reversed (please implement fix from fedora dudes)

2008-11-23 Thread Gary Trakhman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image

brightness steps are reversed as reported by lshal. This causes the Fn-
Home and Fn-End buttons to work in reverse, and the brightness increases
on idle, etc. The link below has a patch to fix video.c in the kernel,
it will implement a sort on the brightness values. Please implement
this for us ubuntu users and help push it up to the linux kernel.

Re: [Bug 281515] Re: Ubuntu 8.10 beta doesn't boot or install

2008-11-23 Thread gdylynx
Hey Bryce,
I decided to upgrade my browsing machine to Ubuntu 8.10 mostly for the
capability to recognize Pci wifi adapters (I'd done this on previous
versions with ndis wrappers but liked the simplicity of the 8.10 solution)
This particular unit has a biostar K8m800 motherboard and an AMD athlon x2
4850e cpu with 1 gig of ram. The Install of 8.10 was downloaded a few days
after it first went "live" on the website about November 3 2008. This image
did install to the system but on the initial reboot the system was very slow
in booting up about 5 minutes to the sign in screen, another 5 minutes until
the Ibex screen appeared. But no navigation bars ever appeared and then the
screen went to a constant blur of the ibex colors. I left the system for
about a half hour it never resolved to a usable navigation screen. I tried
this 3 times and then reinstalled 8.04 lts. Interestingly after the install
of 8.04 from cd and then letting the system update from the site it did
recognize the PCI wifi card ( a linksys 802.11 g card). But the system had a
problem with screen resolution, it was very large using the screen
resolution tool I switched from 800x600 to 1240x960 and the system still
wasn't right (this is a very old 15" viewsonic lcd). I swapped the Viewsonic
for a 19" widescreen Hanns-g monitor and still experienced the same issues.
I think I'll have to install the system on another computer and transfer the
hard drive to the k8 sytem.

It seems to me that the x-org probe of the motherboard doesn't read it
correctly. The prior install of 8.04 was perfect in screen resolution,
however I'm not sure how I installed it. I may have used a minimal install
disk or I may have installed it on the hard hard drive while it was in a
different system and then transfered the hard drive to the k8 system. I do
know that installs to flash drives and SD cards of both 8.04 and 8.10 boot
the systems up with perfect screen resolution (as long as they weren't
installed through the k8 motherboard.

I think this is a shame as I am a firm believer in the linux/ubuntu
philosophy. The k8 mobo is a nice mobo for a cheap build. I think many
builders in the US are good apostles for linux/ubuntu. But, with the issue
of poor screen resolution, and the inability to resolve it simply, will
continue to hinder the penetration of linux/ubuntu into the market place. I
hope you will be able to find the bug and fix it.

The only other suggestion I have, is when doing a mod probe (I think) to fix
screen resolution, or any other config issue, for that matter the probe goes
to far to fix one problem. For thos of us who don't delve into the terminal
all that often going through the probe questions is intimidating. If I want
to change the resolution of my screen I don't want to have to answer
questions about my keyboard sound card and all the rest (it's been awhile
since I had to do this). The way I look at it is that I might get my screen
resolution correct but the chances are that I'll screw something else up
along the way, so I stay away from the re-probe function.

Drop me a line if you need more details or I can help in any way

[Bug 259631] Re: Cannot open Private directory after a reboot when "Automatic Login" enabled

2008-11-23 Thread Jim
I have the same problem.

My install was an 8.04 and I did an upgrade to 8.10. I had it set up
under 8.04 to automatically log me in.

I had some success but it isn't persistent. Also the following command:

ecryptfs_insert_wrapped_passphrase_into_keyring ~/.ecryptfs/wrapped-
passphrase LOGIN_PASSPHRASE

doesn't work for me. I have to replace the underscores in the command
to be hypens, so the following command works:

ecryptfs-insert-wrapped-passphrase-into-keyring ~/.ecryptfs/wrapped-
passphrase LOGIN_PASSPHRASE

I had to install keyutils

I set my system to not automatically login. This didn't make a
difference. I have to issue the command:

ecryptfs-insert-wrapped-passphrase-into-keyring ~/.ecryptfs/wrapped-
passphrase LOGIN_PASSPHRASE

after each log in, regardless of whether I'm set up to automatically log
in or not.

then I can mount the private encrypted directory with the following
command:

mount.ecryptfs_private

Now, really I do find it a big contradiction to allow someone to sit
down at my workstation while I'm not there and get into the private
directory. What's the purpose if not to ensure that certain files are
not accessible to anyone but me. It would seem the way to really make
this work is to allow me to double click on it say in nautilus and be
prompted for my pass key, or to mount it and be prompted (the same way
sudo does).

I can't afford the focus nor the time to log out each time I walk away
from the computer and if you say that lock the screen after x amount of
time, that sort of minimizes (and somewhat negates) the need to encrypt
things.

Issuing the two commands at the prompt sort of secures things for me but
it is very inconvenient and the fact that the command is quite lengthy.
I also issue a lot of commands at the terminal prompt so I'd have to
scroll back a lot over time. I'd find myself using it less and less
till it falls to obscurity, thus making this "alleged" innovative and
compelling feature pointless.

[Bug 298807] [NEW] kde network manager doesnt start, hangs at startup

2008-11-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

im not sure i chose the right app up top, but here is what happens...
every now and again, when i start up the system the kde network manager doesnt
load at all(or takes too long to load, since after a min or so i just re-log).
it takes re-logging for it to truly start, so basically using wifi is a
hassle/pain...

this did not happen right when i installed kubuntu, so either its a
regression of current bugs, or its something that happens after long
system ussage.

:(

this is it.

[Bug 301521] [NEW] redundant nautilus windows with multi user usage

2008-11-23 Thread JanJan
Public bug reported:

When two users are logged in and one user is inserting and removing
storage media (CD-ROM, USB memory) the other user gets Nautilus windows
as well as unreasonable error messages popped up when returning to his
session. The Nautilus windows are supposed to show the content of the
inserted storage media. The error messages are "DBUS error" and "can not
show directory content because of access rights". These error messages
also pop up if no problem occurred for the first user.

For my opinion for the second user no window should pop up at all - no
unreasonable error message and no Nautilus window.

[Bug 300559] [NEW] whishlist: KDE4 Select default action when inserting an external device

2008-11-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I would like to have the feature on select what to do depending on the
content of the media inserted.

For example, if i plugin a cammera, i would like to have options to
mount, download images, etc if i mount a video dvd options to watch the
movie, mount it, rip it, etc

This was possible in KDE3, now the only thing you can do is to mount the
media.
