No, I don't play any 3D games in Wine. Hi Daniel, - Not sure why I put that part in the changelog entry, but the same change was made in Ubuntu, so I've removed that. - I've tested this, and it appears to run properly. - The "cd build/linux-source-$(version26)" change was Ubuntu-specific, then carried over to Debian later, where that line was removed. Re: [Bug 281515] Re: Ubuntu 8.10 beta doesn't boot or install
Hey Bryce, I decided to upgrade my browsing machine to Ubuntu 8.10 mostly for the capability to recognize Pci wifi adapters (I'd done this on previous versions with ndis wrappers but liked the simplicity of the 8.10 solution) This particular unit has a biostar K8m800 motherboard and an AMD athlon x2 4850e cpu with 1 gig of ram. The Install of 8.10 was downloaded a few days after it first went "live" on the website about November 3 2008. This image did install to the system but on the initial reboot the system was very slow in booting up about 5 minutes to the sign in screen, another 5 minutes until the Ibex screen appeared. But no navigation bars ever appeared and then the screen went to a constant blur of the ibex colors. I left the system for about a half hour it never resolved to a usable navigation screen. I tried this 3 times and then reinstalled 8.04 lts. Interestingly after the install of 8.04 from cd and then letting the system update from the site it did recognize the PCI wifi card ( a linksys 802.11 g card). But the system had a problem with screen resolution, it was very large using the screen resolution tool I switched from 800x600 to 1240x960 and the system still wasn't right (this is a very old 15" viewsonic lcd). I swapped the Viewsonic for a 19" widescreen Hanns-g monitor and still experienced the same issues. I think I'll have to install the system on another computer and transfer the hard drive to the k8 sytem. It seems to me that the x-org probe of the motherboard doesn't read it correctly. The prior install of 8.04 was perfect in screen resolution, however I'm not sure how I installed it. I may have used a minimal install disk or I may have installed it on the hard hard drive while it was in a different system and then transfered the hard drive to the k8 system. I do know that installs to flash drives and SD cards of both 8.04 and 8.10 boot the systems up with perfect screen resolution (as long as they weren't installed through the k8 motherboard. I think this is a shame as I am a firm believer in the linux/ubuntu philosophy. The k8 mobo is a nice mobo for a cheap build. I think many builders in the US are good apostles for linux/ubuntu. But, with the issue of poor screen resolution, and the inability to resolve it simply, will continue to hinder the penetration of linux/ubuntu into the market place. I hope you will be able to find the bug and fix it. The only other suggestion I have, is when doing a mod probe (I think) to fix screen resolution, or any other config issue, for that matter the probe goes to far to fix one problem. For thos of us who don't delve into the terminal all that often going through the probe questions is intimidating. If I want to change the resolution of my screen I don't want to have to answer questions about my keyboard sound card and all the rest (it's been awhile since I had to do this). The way I look at it is that I might get my screen resolution correct but the chances are that I'll screw something else up along the way, so I stay away from the re-probe function. Drop me a line if you need more details or I can help in any way On Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 9:18 AM, g yent <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hey Bryce, > Thanks for looking at this bug. [Bug 259631] Re: Cannot open Private directory after a reboot when "Automatic Login" enabled
I have the same problem. My install was an 8.04 and I did an upgrade to 8.10. I had it set up under 8.04 to automatically log me in. I had some success but it isn't persistent. Also the following command: ecryptfs_insert_wrapped_passphrase_into_keyring ~/.ecryptfs/wrapped- passphrase LOGIN_PASSPHRASE doesn't work for me. I have to replace the underscores in the command to be hypens, so the following command works: ecryptfs-insert-wrapped-passphrase-into-keyring ~/.ecryptfs/wrapped- passphrase LOGIN_PASSPHRASE I had to install keyutils I set my system to not automatically login. This didn't make a difference. I have to issue the command: ecryptfs-insert-wrapped-passphrase-into-keyring ~/.ecryptfs/wrapped- passphrase LOGIN_PASSPHRASE after each log in, regardless of whether I'm set up to automatically log in or not. then I can mount the private encrypted directory with the following command: mount.ecryptfs_private Now, really I do find it a big contradiction to allow someone to sit down at my workstation while I'm not there and get into the private directory. What's the purpose if not to ensure that certain files are not accessible to anyone but me. It would seem the way to really make this work is to allow me to double click on it say in nautilus and be prompted for my pass key, or to mount it and be prompted (the same way sudo does). I can't afford the focus nor the time to log out each time I walk away from the computer and if you say that lock the screen after x amount of time, that sort of minimizes (and somewhat negates) the need to encrypt things. Issuing the two commands at the prompt sort of secures things for me but it is very inconvenient and the fact that the command is quite lengthy. I also issue a lot of commands at the terminal prompt so I'd have to scroll back a lot over time. I'd find myself using it less and less till it falls to obscurity, thus making this "alleged" innovative and compelling feature pointless. -- Cannot open Private directory after a reboot when "Automatic Login" enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259631 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
