[Bug 112703] Re: tomboy sometimes starts with search dialog rather than as minimized applet

2009-01-17 Thread Sam Douglas
This problem is currently present in Intrepid, I have investigated more;
it seems to be caused by Tomboy launching before the notification area
applet has loaded. If I remove the notification area from my panel
configuration, Tomboy always starts with the search for notes dialog and
the program exits when that is closed. This probably also explains why
it happens for some people and not others. On my first log in after
booting, Tomboy almost always starts in the 'non-persistent' mode; on
subsequent logins, Tomboy almost always runs as expected in 'persistent'
mode. This is probably caused by kernel caching or whatever when loading
the panel applets.

On a brief look over Tomboy.cs, it is probably something to do with the
program registering as a panel applet.

Hi Till. Here is the lsmod output before and after. Before reading
though, I should tell you the printing is OK now. For the past month I
have been "suspending to Ram" instead of "suspending to disk" and
printing was OK. Furthermore, I recently downloaded what I believe was
an update to the hibernation scripts. Since then printing seems to be
OK whether I suspend to ram or disk. If the problem reoccurs, I will

[Bug 269869] Re: warzone2100 crashes while saving a game

2009-01-17 Thread Dara Adib
According to upstream, this bug was fixed after beta 4. Please try to
reproduce the bug in warzone2100 2.1.0-1 from the Jaunty repositories
before confirming.

Either add the Jaunty repositories to your sources.list file to only
upgrade warzone2100 and warzone2100-date or install updated packages.

Updated packages, install in order:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20717528/warzone2100-data_2.1.0-1_all.deb
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20717529/warzone2100-music_2.1.0-1_all.deb
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20717526/warzone2100_2.1.0-1_i386.deb (for 32-bit
systems)
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20717833/warzone2100_2.1.0-1_amd64.deb (for

[Bug 292711] Re: errors when burning 8.1 iso file to CD

2009-01-17 Thread Dan Trevino
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu. While we appreciate the difficulties you are facing, it would
appear that the CD image (ISO file) you downloaded could be corrupt.
There is an easy way to verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you
download. Could you please visit
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM follow the instructions
and report back as to whether or not the MD5SUM verified? Thanks in
advance.

[Bug 275439] Re: Pidgin 2.4.1 (Hardy): proper closed connection handling patch from upstream

2009-01-17 Thread Rojer
i understand the last one is a (semi) automated reply.

*come on people*! just look at the patch, read the relevant thread and
you'll see. it's so simple it's frustrating to see it not being fixed
this long.

this is not an issue for 8.10 or 9.04 - those already have the fix. i myself
have moved to 8.10.
it still makes sense to patch it in 8.04 though as it is an LTS release, and
this bug is *extremely* annoying.

[Bug 318302] Re: Going to battery causes slowdown and cursor seizure

2009-01-17 Thread ST47
Sure. Here are before/after stats:

Otherwise idle, just sitting here:
CPUs at <5% each (x2) user, <1% sys, almost 2 GB memory, (89 MB free), 0 swap
in use, load 0.03, 0.04, 0.09. No CUP hogs, xorg using 1.5% mem, nautilus,
gnome-panel, gnome-terminal, and a few perls using 1% each.

As soon as I unplug:
CPUs spike, xorg steady at 30%, no memory change, load average spikes to 0.62,
0.19, 0.13

No change plugging back in.

After my change-account/quit/log in hack, xorg back down to 4%ish

I'm having the same issues with an encrypted SD-card in my Dell Inspiron

After supsend/resume, I can't access the encrypted partition of the SD-
card. I can freely umount/mount it even if I remove the card from the
slot. I can even browse the directories of that partition, but I can't
access any of the files.

Only a reboot or a manual cryptsetup luksClose fixes this.

- HP Color Laserjet 4500 Postscript PPD SUCCEEDS!! to print correctly (as
mentioned by rbmorse)

Since the LaserJet 4050 is very similar to the LaserJet 4100 I own I'll
use the 4050-PPD for now. But if I can be of any help to sort these
problems out I'd be more than willing to help.

[Bug 310940] Re: Mounting a DAV resource fails with http error

2009-01-17 Thread Dan Trevino
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in nautilus.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 286858 ***

Dear Jonathan,

any info on my questions already? I still do not understand what is
going wrong here. The info is available in the picture. If I know what
the issue is, I can change the pics accordingly.

Further it would be good if gwenview gives a warning about the quality
when it sets to "default". Or when it is possible to change the default
quality by the user.

Thanks in advance.
Oliver

- put the computer on standby
- resume from ram
=> the screen will flicker while CPU activity is not high

workaround :
- just launch an infinite loop that consume CPU : $ while true; do echo

[Bug 316423] Re: black screen after intrepid login intel graphics

2009-01-17 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Great you figured out how to write to a file (`lspci -vvnn >lspci.txt` in case
you did something more complicated). Xorg.0.log logs what happens from the
X-server starts (just before you see the login screen) until you log out. To
catch any error messages from when things go wrong we need the Xorg.0.log that
is generated when you don't run in safe mode. There are a few ways to do this
(I list two in case one doesn't work)
- Log in - get the blank screen (you hear the login sound), then do Ctrl+F2 to
get a text login where you can copy the file to your home directory with `cp
/var/log/Xorg.0.log ~/Xorg.0.log.txt`. Ctrl+F7 will take you back to the blank
screen where you can Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to kill the X-server and get the login
screen again.
- Log in - get the blank screen (you hear the login sound). Do
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. This kills the X-server and starts a new X-session and a
new Xorg.0.log, but the old one is moved to /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old. You can
then log in using failsafe mode and upload that file.

If you look at the file, it should have many lines starting with (II)
intel(0): as opposed to (II) VESA(0): for the failsafe one.

I can confirm this solution works.

Simply don't forget to restart NetworkManager, just changing the file
will not have immediate effect.

(with root privileges)
$: /etc/init.d/NetworkManager restart

Oggetto: [Bug 290010] Re: frezees trying to connect 6610i via sigmatel stir4200
irda

I did some further research:
I installed linux-image2.6.28-4-generic (from jaunty)
rebooted and the irda worked.

I think it's can be done with older(hardy's) kernels too.
If the bug is in the kernel then the older kernel will do it.

[Bug 177235] Re: slow USB 2.0 drive: it's mounted as USB 1.0, not USB 2.0!

2009-01-17 Thread Hated On Mostly
When I tried to downgrade to 2.6.24-19 it didn't fix the problem.
Looking at the ehci_hcd.ko file after downgrading it appears as if the
file did not get replaced by the ehci_hcd.ko file that is on the live CD
of Ubuntu 8.04.1 (kernel 2.6.24-19). Why that is? I don't know. I would
expect all of the kernel related files to be updated to the version you
install, but that does not appear to be the case, at least for
ehci_hcd.ko.

Right now I am testing out a different temporary fix before doing a
complete reinstall test.

[Bug 316227] Re: devscripts-dbgsym unistallable in intrepid

2009-01-17 Thread tdflanders
Hi there,

I cannot verify if this is correct for the next two hours, as I am
running dpkg-reconfigure. I will try it out later. I see you have
downloaded the Debian key from the Debian package archive.

I however followed these instructions:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash

It should be enough to use der pitti's key. Any other way it is not
uploaded into Intrepid, as the link I posted above shows:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/intrepid/i386/+search?text=devscripts-
dbgsym

It surprises me that you can install it through downloading, I will try
it out in a two hours.

Please tell me the rules for confirming bugs. Also: if I confirm a bug
are the developers warned automatically, or should I do that?

Cheers,

Thomas
