[Bug 324015] [NEW] kino cannot import theora video

2009-02-01 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

If I try to import theora videos through kino (version 1.1.1-1ubuntu2 in Ubuntu
Hardy Heron x86_64) the process ends up with no warning but the video imported
has only the very first frame of the original video.
If I launch kino from command line I see

Opening video decoder: [ffmpeg] FFmpeg's libavcodec codec family
[theora @ 0xde0c60]Missing extradata!
Could not open codec.
VDecoder init failed :(

Re: [Bug 318437] Re: gnome network manager - setting static ip

2009-02-01 Thread troutmask
Hi

Many thanks for that. I created a new network connection (called comet)
and set a static Ip address for that. I can connect to comet and it works
fine: the static IP is saved and my VPN client connects to my work VPN.
However, when I reboot the machine it always starts up connected to eth0.
I intend to put this machine in the loft and never connect to it as a
desktop machine. How can I get the default interface to be comet when I
reboot?

Thanks in advance for your help.

[Bug 324021] [NEW] In Gnome's Places, my hard drive partitions are classified as Removable Media

2009-02-01 Thread Amr Hassan

In the case where I connect extra USB thumbrives, the Places menu gets over
cluttered and my mounted drives are all moved into a submenu "Removable Drives"

[Bug 289880] Re: cannot create download directory (intrepid)

2009-02-01 Thread Bradley Peters
I think I am experiencing this same bug. I'm running an updated copy of
Ubuntu 8.10 with the proposed repository enabled.

$ dpkg-query -W rhythmbox
rhythmbox 0.11.6svn20081008-0ubuntu4.3

The feed I'm experiencing problems is the Science Fiction Book Review
Podcast at . It seem worth noting
that every episode in this feed has the number sign (#) character in the
enclosure URL, as does the download in the error message posted with the
original summary.

Steps:
1. Add a New Podcast Feed with the url .
2. When Rhythmbox attempts to download the first episode I get an error message
titled "Error creating podcast download directory" with the following message:

"Unable to create the download directory for
file:///home/bdp/Podcasts/Science%20Fiction%20Book%20Review%20Podcast/SFBRP
#040 - Fredrick Pohl - Gateway.mp3: Operation not supported"

This also happens with other episodes in the same feed.

[Bug 324025] [NEW] apt-get autoremove throws Internal error due to unmet dependencies

2009-02-01 Thread srinivass
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apt

System info

$ apt-cache policy apt
apt:
  Installed: 0.7.9ubuntu17
  Candidate: 0.7.9ubuntu17.1
  Version table:
 0.7.9ubuntu17.1 0

What I expected to happen?
Auto removal of packages that are no longer used, without any errors.

What happened instead?
The following happened instead..

Actual Bug report log
==

$ sudo apt-get autoremove
[sudo] password for srini:

shouldn't happen. Please file a bug report against apt.

[Bug 95452] Re: kde samba sharing doesn't work - remove msdfs proxy option in smb.conf

2009-02-01 Thread Jim Calhoun
Still broken in new install of Kubuntu 8.10.

I don't know that The-Company-That-Should-Not-Be-Named is directly
behind the lack of progress on this bug. I think it is more of an
inherent distaste for fraternization between OS's on the part of the
coders involved...

[Bug 307957] Re: brasero crashes when trying to burn a file with a "#" in its name

2009-02-01 Thread Jerome
I have exactly the same problem (although I understood it came from the
"#" only by reading this thread): I tried to burn a DVD with many files,
one of them having a "#" in its name, and brasero crashed after having
completed the chesksum of the files to burn (I wonder why he computes
such a checksum since there is no original md5sum to compare to).

I am willing to test the next version of brasero (all the more that I
have another - slight, this time - bug with the CD burned using brasero
0.8.2), but on the contrary to what is said on this website, brasero
0.9.1 is not available in the intrepid-backports...

[Bug 324034] [NEW] HDA Intel Conexant Analog does not work in KDE

2009-02-01 Thread Jonas Pedersen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: phonon

Every time I start KDE 4.2 in Jaunty I get attached error. It reads "HDA
Intel (CONEXANT Analog) does not work. Falling back to PulseAudio.

If I go to the System Settings and select multimedia I can test both HDA
Intel and PulseAudio. From the System Settings both work. HDA Intel play
sound perfectly while PulseAudio plays the sound cracking. This is also
the case with the sound played during shutdown/logout. That sound is
also played in real poor quality and with cracking effects like part of
the sound is missing - i.e. it is clear that it is actually using
PulseAudio for playback as it is same bad quality as when testing in
System Settings.

jo...@miraculix:~$ apt-cache show phonon | grep Version.
Version: 4:4.3.0-0ubuntu1

jo...@miraculix:~$ apt-cache show pulseaudio | grep Version
Version: 0.9.14-0ubuntu2

Please let me know if any other information is needed.

[Bug 323756] Re: Causes errors when removing screen-profiles or sharing .screenrc across hosts

2009-02-01 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Thanks for the bug report, Loic. You raise a couple of important
issues.

I would like to patch screen itself to handle missing source'd files
more gracefully, perhaps as you say by checking for its existence before
sourcing it. I'm going to add a task for 'screen' to this bug for this
item.

We could go the other route, with having the /usr/bin/screen shell
script call a -c "$HOME/.screenrc-profiles", I suppose, but I think
that's going to be considerably more difficult from a maintenance
perspective.

Either way, I agree, this should be fixed ASAP, well before beta.

[Bug 280997] Re: solid-bluetooth needs update for bluez 4.x

2009-02-01 Thread Andreas Zitzelsberger
Andreas you were right. I somehow was under the impression the fixes
were included in the 4.2 release. I also tested
kdebluetooth_0.3-0ubuntu1, which doesn't work either.

kdebluetooth_0.3-0ubuntu0.1 on the other hand works. kbluetooth4
immediately started up, lookup and pairing with my phone worked nicely.

OBEX however failed with a "The name org.openobex was not provided by
any .service files" message, also kbluetooth4 crashed the first time I
pulled the bluetooth dongle, but I could not reproduce this.

[Bug 262550] Re: WARNING: Intrepid might burn down MacBook Pro

2009-02-01 Thread Ricky Campbell
This is very common if you compile anything against the kernel yourself.
The updated AppleSMC package in the mactel-support repo is provided so
that you have a fixed before it may be available in the standard Ubuntu
repos. The changes made were submitted upstream and then included in the
Linux kernel. However, the changes were included in a version of the
kernel that is newer than that available in the Intrepid. For this
reason, you still need to update via the mactel-support repos... and
since your kernel was updated, and the previous version of the applesmc
module was compiled against the old kernel, you may need to compile it
again against the newer kernel.

Bottom Line, the fix IS released, and it has been nominated for an
Intrepid backport. Now you just have to wait.

Although I am using a fresh installation of Ubuntu 8.10 on Toshiba

[Bug 324043] [NEW] Not all birthdays are shown

2009-02-01 Thread Zash
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Not all birthdays for contacts are shown in the calendar view, or the
clock-applet.
I tried going through all my contacts and setting the birth date +1 day and
back again so I could save. This appears to temporarily fix the issue for that
contact, until I had gone through all contacts and found that it had forgotten
about some of them again.

I got this in terminal after doing "evolution --force-shutdown; evolution" and
then unchecking and checking the checkbox for Birthdays and Anniversaries:
(evolution:17603): calendar-gui-WARNING **: gnome-cal.c:910: Could not create
the query: Backend is busy

And after doing "evolution --force-shutdown; evolution" again that
disappeared and I got this instead:

calendar-gui-Message: Check if default client matches
(1193913009.6096...@rutilus 1193913009.6096...@rutilus)

[Bug 324042] [NEW] Netboot 20070308ubuntu40 fails to install system

2009-02-01 Thread bart1452
Public bug reported:

Compaq Presario SR1550nx with 3400+ AMD Athlon 64 processor, 1 Gig ram,
200 GB hard drive, Light Scribe DVD/CD R/W. Windows XP is already
installed so I am installing a dual boot system. Windows was
defragmented and checked for errors before attempting to install Ubuntu.

Downloaded the Ubuntu 8.04 64 bit LTS net (minimal) install ISO image
for #20070308ubuntu40 (image number found after pressing F9 in the boot
menu.) Burned the CD at 16X. The computer booted successfully into the
installation program. I used the default installation settings except
for the Ubuntu partition size was set to 83 GB. The retrieval of intial
components from the server was very slow, like the it was waiting a long
time in que for each component. After guided partioning completed, base
system began downloading and error "Failed to download base system"
appeared with 6% base system downloaded. On second try - "Failed getting
release file" error appeared with 8% downloaded, and subsequent errors
like "couldn't download Aptitude" and for a lot of other packages.
Several tries made and all failed. I chose "Abort Installation". This
was the most recent attempt after failure a few days ago.

I expected it to go smoothly the same as the 32 bit system did on my
laptop. I also tried installing from the live CD 64 bit Ubuntu 8.04 that
I burned at 16X. It seemed to hang in the middle of the process. I did
not try running the system from the live CD first.

The box "In what package did you find this bug?" in this report form did
not display the choice of packages for me.

[Bug 284612] Re: progress bar doesn't scroll

2009-02-01 Thread Rafik Ouerchefani
I have this issue in Rhythmbox 0.11.6svn20081008-0ubuntu4.2 (updated Intrepid)
As in the attached screenshot, the progress bar doesn't move but the counter
(here at 1:28) is correct and the player moves forward to next song at end of
the current. I can't move it manually.
Si it might be not *only* related to pulseaudio.
Please let mt know if any other info is needed or if I should file a new bug.

sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log
sudo dmidecode > dmidecode.log

+ i have something new to report. now the os shuts off everything but the
boob tube and power supply. interestingly enough leaving the suspend
indicator led not blinking but solid on. disk drives are off and nothing but
a hyphen on-screen. go figure. i'm going to remove from windows an install

[Bug 229826] Re: duplicity crashed with ValueError in port()

2009-02-01 Thread flanker
I know I'm chiming in pretty late here, but this error is not due to
spaces. It's because the user entered the target location using a colon
at the end of the hostname (which is standard ssh syntax, but not for
duplicity according to the man page). Instead of specifying the target
as u...@localhost:/path/to/backup, one should use
u...@localhost/path/to/backup. Apparently duplicity interprets the
colon to mean that a port number follows. Clearly untrue. The issue of
whether a sane error message should be printed still stands.
