[Bug 323936] Re: firefox crashed with SIGSEGV

2009-02-03 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

[Bug 313514] Re: evdev driver ignores keycodes > 255

2009-02-03 Thread Bryce Harrington
Several other alternatives described:

 * "keycode compression" in xkbcomp.
 * Add two more reserved "modifiers" (say ExtMod0, ExtMod1) to increase key
space to 0-956.
 * X Keycode Extension. Client apps would need to be modified to use this.

[Bug 280088] Re: [Intrepid] kacpid and kacpi_notify consumes all CPU after resume

2009-02-03 Thread Jesse S
On Inspiron 600m running Intrepid, 2.6.27-12 patch fixes the
kacpid/kacpi_notify problem for me when I remove my CD drive to install
extra battery. I still have the hotplug problem though: CD drive is only
recognized if it was present at boot. If it was installed at boot, I can
remove it and re-install it normally. If battery was installed instead
of CD drive at boot, installing the CD drive later doesn't allow it to
work.

[Bug 270377] Re: content of window do not redraw automatically (intrepid)

2009-02-03 Thread levien
I experienced more or less the same redraw issues, on an up-to-date
Intrepid AMD64 install with a GeForce 8200. The failures to redraw
window contents occur only with desktop-effects turned on, and mostly in
Firefox but sometimes also in other applications. I tried both the
standard 177.82 and the new 180.22 nvidia drivers, but both experienced
redraw problems. Additionally, the 180.22 driver destabilised USB and
X.org on my system (interrupt issues?), so I had to switch back to 177.
Next I tried updating compiz to 0.7.9-git20080918. This seems to have
helped a bit, I now only get redraw issues after opening a lot of
windows (>32). If I keep the number of open windows below 32, everything
seems to be OK. Strange...

[Bug 324864] [NEW] nvidia-glx-96 driver for mx 440 causes problems with desmume

2009-02-03 Thread Alexandros
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-96

If I download and compile the 0.9 package from sourceforge, there is no
3D at all. This also occurs with all the svn revisions. Even if I
install the osmesa dev package and do ./configure --enable-osmesam, 3D
still does not exist.

Additionally, I installed the package from http://ppa.launchpad.net
/loic-martin3/ppa/ubuntu interpid main. In this case, the 3D worked fine
with the gtk (not gtk-glade) interface, but extremely slow.

[Bug 311895] Re: [i945] spontaneous black screen (major pipe-A underrun)

2009-02-03 Thread Jean-Paul Calderone
I can add another data point for the "FramebufferCompression" "Off" fix.
I have a Mac Mini. 8.10 is the first release to come even close to
being able to drive a display from it. I've been experiencing screen
flickering and black screens as described in the initial report as well.
mplayer triggers this behavior more quickly than anything else I've
found, usually blacking the screen and requiring a reboot within 5 or 10
minutes of video playing. Other media players trigger the behavior too,
but less frequently. Everything causes flickering to happen now and
then - including non-media playing, like browsing around the filesystem
with nautilus. I also get frequent pipe underrun reports in my X log

After adding `Option "FramebufferCompression" "off"´ to my xorg.conf (as
described by rhtme52 above), the system has been stable for several
days. The flickering is gone and the display hasn't required a reboot
to unblack it since.

[Bug 324869] [NEW] Background not redrawn with very wide display

2009-02-03 Thread Jeffrey Baker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

On Jaunty amd64 with intel GM965 graphics and two monitors (1280x1024
left of 1400x1050) and visual effects set to "Normal", part of the
desktop background on the right side of the screen is not redrawn. See
the attached screenshot. Windows which are moved over the affected area
draw themselves fine, so I don't believe this bug resides in the driver.
Setting the visual effects to "None" makes everything draw fine.

Compiz is 1:0.7.8-0ubuntu9

The bug I reported for debian (etch/lenny) also exists under debian

see : http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=513596

It is not possible to "suicide" a luks encrypted disk, however it is a
"feature" (there is a warning message before doing that)

This is the output that explains the problem :

[Bug 321311] Re: gnome-screensaver dialog helper spins indefinitely, never unlocks the session, when GTK_IM_MODULE is set

2009-02-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gtk+2.0 - 2.15.3-0ubuntu1

---
gtk+2.0 (2.15.3-0ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * New upstream version:
- Keyboard shortcut handling has been changed, to help with a longstanding
complaint about the way GTK+ handles multiple layouts. GTK+ now only uses
keys from groups other than the current group if they are not present in
the current group. Feedback on this change is appreciated. (lp: #23244)
- Bugs fixed:
569336 change in gtkbutton klass is causing crash...
569435 make maintainer-clean removes non-generated sources
145058 Inputting "^^" requires four keystrokes on Win32...

  * debian/patches/071_jasper_link_fix.patch:
- the change is in the new version

gtk+2.0 (2.15.2-0ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * New upstream version:
GtkAction:
- Make toolitems pick up icon names from actions
- Draw proxies of radio actions properly
- Make menu proxies of recent actions work
- Avoid accidental activations when changing actions on proxies
- Make derived button classes work as proxies
Input methods:
- Avoid an assertion due to early use of input methods
GtkScale:
- Avoid a segfault in the marker drawing code
GtkImageMenuItem:
- Add a property to override the show-menu-images setting
Bugs fixed:
566628 gdk_display_close always asserts on win32 and quartz
569240 Crasher when using markers
569104 Toggle menu entries showed as check menu entries...
322932 Always show icons on panel menus
  * debian/patches/061_use_pdf_as_default_printing_standard.patch:
- updated to fix an implicit declaration issue (lp: #287611)

gtk+2.0 (2.15.1-0ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * New upstream version:
GtkFileChooser:
- Remember the file chooser's size across invocations
- Handle uris that are entered in the entry
- Improve autocompletion, in particular for uris
GtkEntry:
- New property "im-module" for selecting input methods per-widget
- New icon-related API got renamed for consistency
- Added properties and setters for icon tooltips
GtkTextView:
- New property "im-module" for selecting input methods per-widget
- New signal "paste-done" to allow better handling of async pasting
GtkScale:
- New api to add annotated marks: gtk_scale_add_mark.
GtkAction:
- Rework the way actions and proxies interact, to make the
interaction less ad hoc, more extensible, and better suited
for support in GUI builders like glade.
To be used as a proxy, a widget must now implement the
` GtkActivatable interface, and GtkActivatable implementations
are responsible for syncing their appearance with the action
  and for activating the action.
All the widgets that are commonly used as proxies implement
  GtkActivatable now.
This is a big change, and it is not unlikely to break some
current users of GtkAction, so feedback about problems caused
  by this is appreciated.
- Add a "gicon" property to specify the icon with a GIcon
GDK:
- On X11, GDK now caches cursors to avoid cursor theming overhead
- New cursor type for blank cursors: GDK_BLANK_CURSOR
New deprecations:
gtk_scale_Button_get_orientation
gtk_scale_button_set_orientation
gtk_action_connect_proxy
gtk_action_disconnect_proxy
gtk_widget_get_action
gtk_action_block_activate_from
gtk_action_unblock_activate_from
direct access to "gtk-action" object data
Changes that are relevant for translators:
- Navigation and Media stock labels have separate message contexts now
- The caps lock warning string has been changed

says

"In Ubuntu, /var/run is mounted as a temporary filesystem, so the init.d
scripts must handle this correctly. This will typically amount to
creating any required subdirectories of /var/run dynamically when the
init.d script is run, rather than including them in the package and
relying on dpkg to create them."

which is why I suggest in the bug report that /var/run/sks be created in
the init.d script - which is indeed what I have done as a fix for this
bug.

[Bug 287611] Re: implicit pointer conversion will cause SIGSEGV

This bug was fixed in the package gtk+2.0 - 2.15.3-0ubuntu1

gtk+2.0 (2.15.3-0ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

- Keyboard shortcut handling has been changed, to help with a longstanding
complaint about the way GTK+ handles multiple layouts. GTK+ now only uses
keys from groups other than the current group if they are not present in
the current group. Feedback on this change is appreciated. (lp: #23244)
- Bugs fixed:

- Draw proxies of radio actions properly
- Make menu proxies of recent actions work
- Avoid accidental activations when changing actions on proxies
- Make derived button classes work as proxies
Input methods:
- Avoid an assertion due to early use of input methods

GtkTextView:
- New property "im-module" for selecting input methods per-widget
- New signal "paste-done" to allow better handling of async pasting
GtkScale:
- New api to add annotated marks: gtk_scale_add_mark.

- doctest-mode.el ver. 0.5 alpha
- pycomplete.el as of Oct 21 2004
  * Fresh upstream fixes:
- provides alias for read-shell-command to read-string
  (closes: #209723)
- no obsolete syntax (closes: #503132)
  * Changes/fixes in Debian packaging:
- debian/emacsen-startup -- clean-up, python2.6, untabify,
adopting strategy to check in emacsen-startup from
  emacs-goodies (closes: #493919)
- debian/control -- recommends pychecker (closes: #458997), suggests
pylint, provides vcs-, homepage fields, adjusted descriptions, fixed
depends to rely on current version of emacs (22) or any emacsen
(closes: #473232), added needed python's depends (due to pycomplete)
- debian/copyright -- moving to machine-interpretable format
- debian/watch - watches new releases from lp (closes: #450276)
- provided .gbp.conf for easy building using git-buildpackage

[Bug 324879] [NEW] no sound after upgrading to 8.10

2009-02-03 Thread Kymus
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Ibex, everything was fine at first... ran things for
a few hours, audio was fine.

Go to bed, turn the system off, turn it back on the next morning and of
course the magic computer goblin paid my box a visit because I am not
getting any audio at all.

When I first booted, I noticed that the sound was automatically muted,
so I changed that, and I've of course fiddled with the volume and that
produced no results.

I'm using the onboard sound from my motherboard (Foxconn NF4UK8AA),
which the Sound Preferences says is NVidia CK804 with ALC850 NVidia
CK804.

I've fiddled with every option under sound playback and every test has
thus far produced no results.

I was browsing through the Ubuntu forum and found this suggestion:

Code:

sudo killall pulseaudio

sudo alsa force-reload

Quote:
and then go to System>Preferences>Sound and change everything to ALSA

Unfortunately, this produced no results

Another suggestion I received was to check to make sure Ubuntu is
recognizing my sound card; it seems that it is recognizing it fine:

Code:
ky...@shouxing:~$ sudo lshw -C multimedia
  *-multimedia
   description: Multimedia audio controller
   product: CK804 AC'97 Audio Controller
   vendor: nVidia Corporation
   physical id: f
   bus info: p...@:00:04.0
   version: a2
   width: 32 bits
   clock: 66MHz
   capabilities: pm bus_master cap_list
   configuration: driver=Intel ICH latency=0 maxlatency=5 mingnt=2
module=snd_intel8x0

I tried upgrading alsa and... yeah, nadda.

I have followed the basic troubleshooting for debugging sound problems
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems) and unfortunately, that
didn't help either.

I've run the "Automatic Sound Information Collection" and this is the url it
spit out:

OK so it looks like you might have possibly had an old fglrx install that
didn't clean up after itself then right? In this particular case you didn't
have fglrx installed, but did you install it from say an older web release

Re: [Bug 203054] Re: install fails: BusyBox v1.1.3 (initramfs)

2009-02-03 Thread ichap...@videotron.ca
Maybe the DVD works on another machine but it may not be working on
yours. Busy box seems to be a temporary set of shell commands to
facilitate booting. I had the problem after an update. I fixed it by
getting an updated CD and re-installation. When you put in the DVD
select check DVD on your machine and reader. Good luck Ian.

[Bug 324887] [NEW] bonnie on md+xfs causes reboot

2009-02-03 Thread Matt Garman
Public bug reported:

I have a raid5 md device, on top of which is an xfs filesystem. When I
run the bonnie++ benchmark using this filesystem, it causes the computer
to reboot.

Recently I changed the hardware: from an Intel Q35 motherboard with an
E5200 CPU to a Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 (AMD 740G/SB700) motherboard and
4850e CPU. I never experienced this with the previous hardware.

The md device is built from four Western Digital 7500AAKS 750 GB 7200
rpm SATA drives. The drives are connected to two 2-port Silicon Image
SiI 3132 PCIe cards.

$ cat /proc/mdstat

  [===>.]  resync = 75.3% (552091520/732571904)
finish=93.4min speed=32198K/sec

md0 is the device on which the reboots happen; I haven't tried running
bonnie on the md1 device.

Every time this reboot occurs, the array has to be resync'ed.

[Bug 268734] Re: immediate shutdown after pressing shutdown button

2009-02-03 Thread Darwin Bautista
Any chance of pushing an official fix now? This issue looks pretty minor
at first, but considering the fact that it causes actual data loss due
to the system shutting down without any confirmation, I believe that
this should be considered of high importance. I've actually been hit by
this bug at least twice already (yeah, and I lost unsaved work!) before
I decided to dig into it.

I don't understand why this kind of bug, which involves a simple case
"porting" a short shell script from KDE3 to KDE4, takes such a long time
to fix. Or is it because only KDE is affected by this bug and not
Ubuntu's default, GNOME?

[Bug 291353] Re: Upgrading from 0.13.x to 0.14.0 wipes out ingredient database

2009-02-03 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Thomas, I opened the recipe.db certainly more than twice. I still need
a test case, if the ingredient key editor cannot provide that. I can
inspect the data structures in sqlite itself. What should I be looking
for? How do I know the entries in there are actually valid? Am I
mistaken to assume that gourmet ships with a stock of entries for that
table? That is what I meant by SQL dump, we could offer that for those
who lost the ingredient data (I know it won't usually bring all the data
back, better than nothing, though).

[Bug 324022] Re: friday's kernal update breaks sound on my dell D610 laptop

2009-02-03 Thread Patrick Kilgore
Are you sure it was only a kernel update that caused this problem, or a
general ubuntu update?

The fact that you get a login chime leads me to believe the kernel is
fine.

[Bug 324886] [NEW] No microphone in HP Pavilion dv6000

2009-02-03 Thread manu
Public bug reported:

HP Pavilion dv6000

Tried all combinations in alsamixer.
Only Output Mic Boost seems to have some effect.
The front mics (in the screen) simply do not record any sound.
With Output Mic Boost at its maximum, there is static sound and a plugged
microphone can be heard back through the speakers. However, the sound is not
recorded by arecord, audacity or skype.

m...@localhost:~$ lspci -v | grep Audio

[Bug 322374] Re: [jaunty regression] Pulse Audio finds no card for output

I don't have /etc/xdg/autostart/pulseaudio.desktop. As matter of fact I
did a "find / -iname 'pulseaudio.desktop'" and nothing came up.
