[Bug 319840] Re: Kernel panic when attempting to netboot hardy 20090119 on HP Proliant ML350 G5

2009-02-06 Thread Stefan Bader
Hi Marc,

can you try to find the specific release this occurred in (trying some
of the previous kernels) and can you confirm that this is all of the
messages you get to see? (maybe boot without the silent option to see
what happens in between).

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 324722] Re: Kile cannot create symliks to lyxpipe; in this way collaboration with jabref is not possible

2009-02-06 Thread Katsudon
Yes, now it works like a charm. Very good suggestion!

From a perspective of collaboration between kile and jabref I think this
is a bug (they simply do not talk to each other out of the box).

However I admit that it might be bizzare if the default behavior of kile
would be to create empty .lyx if it does not exist (since LyX is not
directly related to kile).

To summarize: I do not know what should be the right behavior.

[Bug 325381] Re: Cd tray closing 'unexpectedly' SONY CD-RW CRX230EE udev 124-9

2009-02-06 Thread Sergio
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: udev

  Ubuntu 8.10 udev 124-9 SONY CD-RW CRX230EE
  Duplicate of bug #283316
  I tried this:
sudo udevadm monitor --udev 21 | tee /tmp/udev.log
inserted and ejected the cd, did the trick of hitting the cd burner's button
also but /tmp/udev.log had nothing in it (don't know if should have done
anything else because the Terminal didn't give any reaction).
  Then did:
  sudo /etc/init.d/hal stop
and the CD-RW didn't mount (BUT the manual eject function worked properly -
without 'auto-retract'), so
  sudo /etc/init.d/hal start
and returned to the initial status.
+
+ Also I found out that CrunchBang 8.10.02 (based on ubuntu 8.10) live-cd
+ has this problem too while Knoppix 6.0 (based on Debian, I think) has it
+ not.

[Bug 217607] Re: tomcat cannot connect to mysql

2009-02-06 Thread Thierry Carrez
Without more information (like a complete Java stack trace) it is
difficult to debug where it may come from. Did you contact the ActiTime
developers about it ? If they can translate their error into a bug into
Ubuntu, that would be great.

FWIW the class in that error message is in libmysql-java and support for
JDBC4 was dropped between the gutsy and the hardy versions. Maybe
ActiTime was depending on it somehow ?

[Bug 146817] Re: broken packages message is confusing

2009-02-06 Thread Michele Mangili
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue
for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

2009-02-06 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report, are you using jaunty or intrepid? Your
description mentions jaunty but jaunty has nautilus 2.25 and gvfs 1.1.
Do you get the issue every time on this disk? Does restarting your
session makes a difference?

Whether or not it is utopia, integrating Firefox with the KDE wallet
should be a separate feature.

It is not the proper solution to the specific problem reported here.
Firefox should behave intelligently when multiple tabs needing
authentication are loaded at once. It does not need to use the KDE
wallet for this purpose.

[Bug 326149] [NEW] ondemand cpufreq governor reacts too slowly

2009-02-06 Thread Martin Emrich
Public bug reported:

I am running current intrepid amd64. CPU is an Athlon X2 4050e on a
Gigabyte GA-MA780GM-S2H mainboard.

I noticed that when I switch to the performance governor, most
applications (e.g. Firefox, Opera) react much snappier than with the
ondemand goveror. It seems like ondemand needs too much time to react to
the increased demand for CPU power.

On my laptop (intrepid/jaunty i386, Intel Pentium M 1,7GHz on intel
855PM chipset, ondemand governor), I don't have this problem.

[Bug 156199] Re: Usability: provide a select/deselect all option

2009-02-06 Thread Michele Mangili
Hello Daniel!

Thank you for reporting this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better! We
have recently moved your bug report from the distribution update-
manager to the Ubuntu package update-manager, because this is the
correct place to report issues about this program. I apologize for this
delay in reading your report.

At the same time I think that your request is detailed enough so that a
developer of update-manager can start working on this issue. However I
don't know if this feature will be implemented in the next versions
since I'm just triaging bug report and I'm not a developer.

[Bug 322460] Re: Launcher fonts and border issues

2009-02-06 Thread Neil J. Patel
RE: Launcher texture issues

There seems to be an issue with the Jaunty Intel drivers and the way
they handle TidyTextureFrames. These objects basically tile the texture
in GL with padding (so only stretching certain areas), allowing one
texture to be resized without losing rounded-corners, for example.

The code for the TidyTextureFrame is available here:
http://svn.o-hand.com/repos/tidy/trunk/tidy/tidy-texture-frame.c

And I will attach a before/after screenshot of the launcher showing how
it normally looks, and how it looks currently.

[Bug 326162] [NEW] mythtv-status clobbers other motd update scripts

2009-02-06 Thread Will Uther
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mythtv-status

Mythtv status (version 0.7.3-2ubuntu2) has been sending annoying emails
to root every 10 minutes on my machine. (Related to, but *not* the same
as bug 311532.) Mythtv-status has also been clobbering other motd
altering scripts on my machine (such as the one notifying me of
available updates). It turns out that these two issues can be fixed
with the same fix.

mythtv-status is using its own system to update the motd. On the jaunty
system I'm running, there is already a nice motd update mechanism in
place that has two advantages:

  a) it doesn't have the bug that causes an error to root when it updates, and
  b) it doesn't clobber other motd update scripts.

The fix then is simple. Remove the mythtv-status init script, and add a
script in /etc/update-motd.d/ that calls mythtv-status.

Be well,

Will

Sorry, I do not know where to set this. I did not find it in

I installed Jaunty for test purposes (this time using Gnome desktop, not

For debugging instructions, do the same as in this post and attach the

Also, may I see the script you're using in /etc/pm/sleep.d?

I'd prefer PM for this.

[Bug 326173] [NEW] Compiz Ring Switcher Window Filter

2009-02-06 Thread Eric Marvets
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

The Compiz Ring Switcher's window filter does nothing. Under 'Misc.
Options', any changes made to 'Ring Windows' has no effect. I added a
not condition (!) against window class, title, etc. to no avail.

I also tried removing every option in 'Ring Windows', leaving it blank,
but all windows remained when the Ring Switcher was activated. No
combination of options has any effect.

Version Info:
Ubuntu 8.10
1:0.7.8-0ubuntu4.1

I was trying to filter out any VMWare windows from being cycled, since
Compiz and VMWare are sworn enemies.

[Bug 325958] Re: Jaunty Alpha 4: Ubiquity windows does not fit on 1024x600 screen

2009-02-06 Thread Alex Krastelev
Confirm, ubiquity dialogues are unusable on netbook 1024x600 panel since
Alpha4.
In Jaunty Alpha 3 dialogues were OK.

Seems to be related to the new feature of Alpha 4: Font Size
Optimization: Font dot-per-inch settings are now optimized based on your
monitor's capabilities, rather than defaulting to 96 dpi. (from
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/jaunty/alpha4).

See attached installer dialogues from Alpha 3 and Alpha 4, they
illustrate the problem.

[Bug 315205] Re: [Ubuntu 8.04.1] Intel 4965 wireless can't connect anymore (update regression?)

2009-02-06 Thread Yann
I have the same problem since Hardy 2.6.24-23 kernel update (2.6.24-22
is OK when selected in grub), with a laptop integrated Intel 3945 wifi
board. Mostly at startup.

Logs only shows association/deassociation cycles with the WPA2 AP
(working perfectly at the same moment with a nearby EeePC+XP... or
rebooting on -22 kernel+modules).

The only way to get it work is to issue a sudo ifdown wlan 0 then
sudo ifup wlan0... but it does not always work. sudo
/etc/init.d/networking restart work most of the times (fail 10% of
times only, maybe).

But then, wifi if not reliable: Sometimes it will stop working after
10mn even if doing nothing... sometimes it will last hours of file
transfer.

The only reliable way to cope with the problem is using 2.6.24-22
kernel...

It's a problem as these Intel wifi boards are built in a huge % of
laptops and a quick look to newsgroups/forums indicate that 4965 boards
seems to show similar symptoms.

Regards

2009-02-06 Thread souplin
Can't add any wallpaper directories. Created a test enviroment with one
wallpaper path containing a single jpg file a.jpg .

e.g. adding this directory -
*** glibc detected *** /usr/bin/wallpaper-tray: free(): invalid next size
(normal): 0x09314230 ***

when I change the picture type from default zoom to wallpaper I got:
*** glibc detected *** /usr/bin/wallpaper-tray: malloc(): memory corruption:
