[Bug 228265] Re: [needs-packaging] FatRat download manager

2009-02-15 Thread Savvas Radevic
I've contacted the author about:
1) The bugzilla is not working:
http://fatrat.dolezel.info/bugs/
Forbidden - You don't have permission to access /bugs/ on this server.
Apache Server at fatrat.dolezel.info Port 80

2) Your links should be more uwatch-friendlier. uwatch is a debian application
that helps track down new upstream releases.
Example:
http://www.dolezel.info/download/download.php?project=fatrat&version=1.1
...should be something like:
http://www.dolezel.info/download/download.php?file=fatrat-1.1.tar.gz

Or a folder with a direct link.
Or even you could upload/host it on sourceforge, google code or berlios.

3) There is no COPYING file in the main source directory.
For packagers, to be able to package it properly, the upstream author should
include a COPYING in the root dir of the source. There’s a GPL-2 license in the
subdirectory data/, unfortunately that will not permit us to distribute the
other directories.

2009-02-15 Thread maho
I have very similar problem. Network manager restarts connection(during
few weeks, it happened always near 02:00 AM, so it looked like it's
forced by cron).

Next it fails 2 times with credentials it uses, and asks me for password
for WPA2 network. Regardless what I typed there - it always fails to
connect.

The cure is /etc/init.d/NetworkManager restart . Then it connects
without any problem.

[Bug 329968] [NEW] OpenMedSpel Extension for OpenOffice.org 3.0 disables normal dictionary

2009-02-15 Thread Jonathan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I am attempting to install the OpenMedSpel plugin (an extension that
adds a medical terms dictionary to OO.o 3.0) from
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/OMS .  Installing the
extension disables the normal English dictionary on OO.o 3.0 on Ubuntu
8.10 64-bit from https://launchpad.net/~openoffice-pkgs/+archive/ppa .
Once the package is installed and OO.o is restarted, all normal English
words are marked as misspelled. Only medical jargon like "reticulocyte"
is considered spelled correctly. Uninstalling the plugin fixes the
problem. I've contacted the plugin author, and he told me that this is
not the case in WinXP. I am not able to check in Jaunty since my
VirtualBox network connection is not working
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/326003)

Is there any additional info you might need or any suggestions you can
recommend?

[Bug 329671] Re: ibm-lockbtn script needed to blank screen on R50e

2009-02-15 Thread Steve Langasek
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help to improve
Ubuntu.

The acpi-support package is deprecated, and the key handling provided
there is being phased out in favor of direct handling by hal and the
GNOME desktop. I believe gnome-settings-daemon is the component that
handles the screen-lock keypress, so I'm reassigning this bug there.

[Bug 329967] [NEW] Boot sequence delayed start

2009-02-15 Thread Keith Childs
Public bug reported:

Easy Peasy, EeePC 900. Worked perfectly fine since install four weeks ago.
Suddenly it hangs at startup with Asus EeePC welcome screen. I cannot enter tab
and esc keys. If I just wait, then after several minutes it eventually
continues from the startup screen to a flashing cursor and then boot sequence
continues and Easy Peasy launches and everything is fine. When I shutdown and
restart, the same problem occurs.
If I press f2 this is where it thangs.

release of Jaunty 9.04 (currently Alpha4) -
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/jaunty/ . It contains a newer 2.6.28
based kernel. You should be able to test suspend via a LiveCD. Please

[Bug 318498] Re: Toshiba Satellite A100 fn key doesn't work

2009-02-15 Thread purluno
I see kernel 2.6.28-7 #20 now has toshiba_acpi module, but it also can't
be loaded.

purl...@purluno-laptop:~$ modprobe toshiba_acpi
FATAL: Error inserting toshiba_acpi
(/lib/modules/2.6.28-7-generic/kernel/drivers/acpi/toshiba_acpi.ko): Operation
not permitted
purl...@purluno-laptop:~$

I have downloaded Jaunty kernel git repository, and checked toshiba_acpi_init().

if (acpi_disabled)
return -ENODEV;

/* simple device detection: look for HCI method */
if (is_valid_acpi_path(METHOD_HCI_1))
method_hci = METHOD_HCI_1;
else if (is_valid_acpi_path(METHOD_HCI_2))
method_hci = METHOD_HCI_2;
else
return -ENODEV;

I can't see any kernel message of toshiba_acpi module in /var/log, so
code above determines to prohibit loading of the module.

I can access to /proc/acpi, can use acpidump tool, so ACPI may not be
disabled. Therefore my machine may not be able to pass
is_valid_acpi_path(METHOD_HCI_x).

When I used Ubuntu Hardy, Fn key worked perfectly.

[Bug 329965] [NEW] Login freezes with gray box after messing around with wifi

2009-02-15 Thread decora
Public bug reported:

I have 8.04 updated today 2/15/2009.

I am on a hp compaq nc6000 laptop with atheros 5212/5213 reported by
lspci

I have been messing aroudn with the wifi a lot trying to get it to work
right. it does but

somewhere along the line, it started making my gnome login freeze.

I get the normal brown background, then a large light gray box in the
upper lefthand corner of the screen.

The cursor, when moved into the box, turns into a 'text selection'
cursor, as though it were a terminal or something. The cursor in the
rest of the screen is an ordinary arrow.

Gnome 'Failsafe' also didn't exactly work.

My solution was to delete a bunch of ~/.gnome* files and reboot a few
times and log in failsafe mode...

These are bugs in the UI, in error reporting, in failsafe not being
failsafe, etc. Thank you for reading.

[Bug 178953] Re: compiz doesn't start if metacity compositor is enabled

2009-02-15 Thread qinjuehang
Bobby, to force compiz to run, you should disable the blacklist. It
works on my latop, which is also Intel GM965. However, some effects
(blur, rain...) don't work, and sometimes your framerates drops really
low. Overall its ok though. (I simply commented the blackline in the
compiz script, all the way back during gutsy) Also, the intel driver
*should* be open-source and free as in freedom AFAIK.

2009-02-15 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi Max,

Care to do a few tests first? I notice you have an Nvidia graphics
card, so this may be a duplicate of bug 324895. First can you test the
latest pre-release of the upcoming Jaunty 9.04 release (currently Alpha
4) - http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/jaunty/ .  You should be able to
test suspend via a LiveCD. Does the issue remain? If so, can you make
sure to test with the open nv driver and see if you can reproduce the
stack trace in bug 324895? If you can, we should mark this as a
duplicate of that bug. If the stacktrace is different, we'll still want
to reassign this to the proper package. Please let us know your
results. For information on how to capture the backtrace refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing .  Thanks.

Nol:
It still shows upside down for a moment at the beginning, but
orientation-detection is working great! When I flip the camera around to the

Video recording is still very choppy (only a few disjoint seconds were

"recording" but that could just be Cheese. My other webcam seems to have

2009-02-15 Thread Andrew Antle
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu release: 8.10
Package version: 1.14-1
I was trying to install Quod Libet, but python-mutagen failed. The weird thing

terminal and received this:

Hi Patrick,

Is this still an issue for you? Are you able to ssh into the machine
after you resume? If so, can you please attach the following
information after an attempted suspend/resume cycle. Please be sure to
attach each file as a separate attachment.

* cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
* dmesg > dmesg.log
* sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log
* /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Thanks again and we appreciate your help and feedback.

[Bug 214193] Re: Romanian spell-check dictionary uses incorect diacritics

2009-02-15 Thread Jani Monoses
Lucian: yes there are two dictionaries, one with comma the other with
cedilla

Adi: there existed a mysepll-ro (not talking about aspell) on the openoffice
l10n site. It used the 2005 versioning and was made made by Secarica AFAICR
. It was in gentoo. I added it to Ubuntu in 2007. Then Lucian came up with
another package called myspell-ro but with another versioning scheme.
So everyone is free to choose a versioning scheme of his own will, and support
the consequences of his choice.
This is my last take ono the subject ( I have rehashed it every time it came up
in the past two years) , look at my proposal above to move forward.
