[Bug 335869] Re: crash (can't draw desktop) if desktop effects are enabled

2009-03-12 Thread ulrich
another thing to mention:
if i don't go any higher in resolution than 1600x1200, nautilus works with
compiz!
but after some time the screen gets all mixed up and x freezes, no keyboard
interaction anymore.

meanwhile i also tested jaunty/intrepid i386. compiz works like a charm,
the bonobo-activation-server error still there, but no regression...

[Bug 276357] Re: disable xauth for local users

2009-03-12 Thread luvinit
It seems I have a related problem with Jaunty Jackalope.
I am trying LTSP on Jaunty. The reason that I am trying Jaunty is because there
were also other errors in Gnome that stopped the Hardy and Intrepid versions
from allowing login, but those errors seem to have gone in the Jaunty verison,
but I still can't login. Originally I couldn't login to the client, no errors
were listed in the .xsession-errors file. Two days ago there were updates to
the LTSP and other packages and LTSP worked for all of one day. Now I can no
longer login, but the difference is that there is the following error listed:
Xsession: X session started for ltsp at Thu Mar 12 11:22:30 GMT 2009
*xhost: must be on local machine to add or remove hosts.*
Setting IM through im-switch for locale=en_GB.

I: caps.c: Dropping root privileges.

[Bug 302485] Re: No persistence with USB Creator in Ubuntu 8.10

2009-03-12 Thread Rich
I repro the "no persistence" on several separate ubuntu machines. I
don't recall the attempts to write making the stick unbootable though.

Was using a 4GB corsair, freshly formatted fat32. ubuntu 8.10 and 9.04
AMD64. I maxed out the persistence file size for my stick (about 3.1
GB). usb-creator proceeded to write the iso to the disk but at the end a
small window with a red warning circle with a white horizontal line
appeared. There was no text message. I closed that out & rebooted. It
booted into the live system properly. I created a small text file on the
desktop and one in / . neither one persisted through a subsequent
clean reboot.

As a test I later manually created a casper-rw file in the root of my
usb stick (there was not one present) and persistence started working. I
see the casper packages are not a dependency of the usb-creator package.
Lupine: do you have them installed? I do not.

there's a thread over at ubuntu forums where several people report
problems w/ persistence:

[Bug 337990] Re: [gphoto-devel] gphoto capture-image not working in ubuntu? (intrepid)

2009-03-12 Thread b
Hello Marcus,

Seems unlikely that it would be a memory problem. I'm running the camera
without a capture card at all, and powered off in between tests (when
reattaching to various computers).

The good news is that 2.4.4.2 works on ubuntu! I just compiled and
recompiled gphoto2, and it now works fine.

Hard to say why it was not working before, but it is certainly working
in 2.4.4.2 on ubuntu.

I still can't shake the thinking that it could be some ubuntu/intrepid
shared library that is not compatible??

Thanks for your help.

The problem already exist. In fact if you do something before the steps
I described in my last comment then also if you do the right things the
foward button isn't enabled. Till, you have an HP printer, maybe you
should have to use the HP Printer (HPLIP) section, did you try to use
that system? About the freeze also my system-config-printer freeze for
some second, maybe you should wait a little more.

[Bug 341817] [NEW] dhcpd wont start due to rndc.key permissions

2009-03-12 Thread Rob_Leo
Public bug reported:

 1:9.4.2-10 0

Problem:
dhcpd wont start - "/etc/bind/rndc.key: Permission denied"
Workaround found but is a potential security issue ("/etc/bind/rndc.conf" world
readable)

Brief:
Trying to get dhcp3-server and bind9 to work together nicely.
The "/etc/bind/rndc.key" file is owned by bind:bind w. 640 perms by default and
dhcpd3 process runs under user "dhcpd". Adding user "dhcpd" to group "bind"
does not seem to work. Permissions of "/etc/bind/rndc.key" need to be changed
to 644 for dhcp3-server to start (I could find no other solution - after a few
hours of google and 30 minutes of play, at least ;-)

Steps:
- Install & configure bind9 (configuration tested and working)
- Install & configure dhcp3-server
- sudo /etc/init.d/dhcp3-server start

Expected result:
dhcpd starts

Actual result:
#/etc/init.d/dhcp3-server start
dhcpd self-test failed. Please fix the config file.
The error was:
Can't open /etc/bind/rndc.key: Permission denied
#ls -l `which dhcpd3`
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 516164 2008-04-02 15:38 /usr/sbin/dhcpd3
#ls -l /etc/bind/rndc.key
-rw-r- 1 bind bind 77 2009-03-12 14:30 /etc/bind/rndc.key
#id -a dhcpd
uid=111(dhcpd) gid=122(dhcpd) groups=122(dhcpd),121(bind)

Workaround:
- Change permissions of /etc/bind/rndc.key to world readable (from 640 -> 644)
note: adding 'dhcpd' user to 'bind' group does not work for some reason
- Start dhcpd:
#chmod 644 /etc/bind/rndc.key
#/etc/init.d/dhcp3-server start
 * Starting DHCP server dhcpd3
   [ OK ]
#ps -ef | grep dhcpd

[Bug 341815] [NEW] wide-dhcpv6 has been failing to build for a long time

2009-03-12 Thread Jérémie Corbier
Public bug reported:

Due to struct in6_pktinfo not being POSIX, GNU libc6 does not define it
unless _GNU_SOURCE is defined. wide-dhcpv6 needs it.

Defining _GNU_SOURCE does not work since wide-dhcpv6 developers named
their debug messages function dprintf. This conflicts with GNU dprintf.

This bug is fixed in wide-dhcpv6 20080615-6 in Debian and the fix can
easily be backported to whatever version fits Jaunty release.

[Bug 341819] [NEW] vlc has crackling sound after standard installation

2009-03-12 Thread Christian Göbel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vlc

Testing the alpha5 for Ubuntu, Jaunty (plus recent updates) on my 3 year old
laptop
(centrino platform) I discovered the following problem:

I installed VLC via the gnome menu: applications - add/remove.

I expected that the installation of VLC would lead to a good standard
configuration for Ubuntu
without sound problems.

Instead I had a bad sound experience (e.g. watching a film). The sound
was crackling strongly.

Searching the Ubuntu forums I found a hint that the vlc-plugin-puls - package
is required.
I installed the package and my sound problems have been resolved.

In order to fix the problem I suggest to PUT the package VLC-PLUGIN-PULSE as a
DEPENDENCY for Ubuntu, since pulse-audio
is used anyway by Ubuntu.

different behaviour from the default pre-depedns. It seems that the

[Bug 179141] Re: Mondorestore fails restoring files from an usb HD

2009-03-12 Thread BrianP
Pedro,
I have personally submitted multiple error logs in the past and never heard
anything back. I just had a case in which mondorestore ate my system drive. It
restored to 1% and then died with the fatal error message "MOMMY!" rendering my
entire system unusable.

Both log files can be found as an attachment below. Is this everything
you need? Can I be of any further assistance?

I have no idea how long it will take the dev gang to diagnose and fix it
and to publish RPMs for my latest-n-gratest Suse 11.1 x86_64 and I would
really like to get my image back.

I was going to write a Perl script to mount the ISO, decompress the .bz2 images
and see if I could figure out how to mate the files listed in all.tar.gz to the
images. Bunzip2 tells me:
bri...@godzilla:/tmp$ bunzip2 0.afio.bz2
bunzip2: 0.afio.bz2 is not a bzip2 file.

How can I decompress mondo's .bz2 files? Do I have any hope of
reassembling the original image or am I just smoking rope? Last night,
I tried mondo-2.2.6-2.3.x86_64.rpm on a victim system with a
quick-n-dirty, minimal Suse 11.1 and got the same 1% "MOMMY!" fatal
error. All of the prerequisites (afio, newt, etc.) were installed with
stock, YAST modules.

Can you point me to a well behaved mondo which will work on Suse 11.1/64
bit running on an Intel core2 quad q9550 running on an Asus p5q3 with an
intel p45/ich10r chipset? The latest version, mondo-2.2.8, appears only
in the Asian releases and in SLES 10 on http://mondorescue.org ->
download. I can't read Chinese. :-)

The Suse version only goes to 11.0. and is version 2.0.6. Will using an
ancient version of mondo built for an old version of Suse be a Quixotic
exercise without hope of success?

Grasping at straws,

BrianP

dinhtrung's solution works better for me if I select the window by
title. That way it doesn't impact other programs nearly as much.

[Bug 341828] [NEW] Mouse wheel emulation stopped working after upgrade

2009-03-12 Thread Heikki Aitakangas
Public bug reported:

I had mouse wheel emulation configured to work with the trackpoint on my
Thinkpad T61 in Hardy. After upgrading to Intrepid, it stopped working.
I had the following in my xorg.conf:

Section "InputDevice"
   Identifier "UltraNav TrackPoint"
   Driver "mouse"
   Option "CorePointer"
   Option "EmulateWheel""on"
   Option "EmulateWheelTimeOut" "200"
   Option "EmulateWheelButton" "2"
   Option "YAxisMapping""4 5"
   Option "XAxisMapping""6 7"
   Option "ZAxisMapping""4 5"

EndSection

It was commented out by the updater and uncommenting it didn't help.
