[Bug 311732] Re: 2.6.28-4 breaks thinkfinger

I can confirm that the thinkfinger_0.3+r118-0ubuntu4.diff.gz patch
fixes the problem with delays in device initiation and having to swipe
the finger twice to get authentication to work.

[Bug 348391] Re: qemu cannot use KVM

2009-03-29 Thread Vianney le Clément
Bad news: KVM_CAP_DESTROY_MEMORY_REGION_WORKS only appears in kvm.h from
kernel 2.6.29. As jaunty is based on 2.6.28, it seems we won't be able
to use kvm acceleration directly in qemu. We'll have to stick with the
modified qemu provided by kvm until the next version of ubuntu.

[Bug 351166] Re: 9.04 beta & EeePC 900: Hotkeys / Suspend / Resume

2009-03-29 Thread Per Åkesson , Stockholm
** Description changed:

  9.04 beta & EeePC 900: Hotkeys / Suspend / Resume

  Hardware: EeePC 900
  Software: 9.04 beta
All tests after booting the live-CD, not performing install.

- 1. Suspend (Standby) hotkey:
+ 1. Suspend (Standby) menu selection:
First I tested Suspend from the menu alternatives. Worked just fine. The
suspend LED started blinking. Normal mode was resumed after I pressed a Shift
key.
+ Then I restarted the PC and tried the same time again. This time the PC did
go to suspend, but refused to wake up, just displaying a mouse pointer on black
background.
+
+ 2. Suspend (Standby) hotkey:
Then I tested the Suspend hotkey, Fn-F1.
The screen blanked, but the suspend LED did not start blinking so I think it
was no real suspend..
- It was impossible to wake the PC up from this situation.
+ It was impossible to wake the PC up from this situation. Screen entirely
black.
Then I rebooted and tried the suspend hotkey a second time.
- This time the suspend LED started blinkning but again it was impossible to
wake the PC up.
+ This time the suspend LED started blinkning but again it was impossible to
wake the PC up. Screen entirely black.

- 2. Wifi hotkey:
+ 3. Wifi hotkey:
Pressing the wifi hotkey Fn-F2 had no effect. It was also impossible to
deactivate Wifi by rightclicking on the Network icon and unchecking "wireless".

[Bug 351173] [NEW] Asks for NTP installation even if just installed

2009-03-29 Thread Tiefflieger
Public bug reported:

Appeared on Jaunty 64bit
I started System->System Settings->Date and time. "Configuration" was set to
manual, I changed it to "Keep synchronization with internet servers", it told
me that NTP is not installed and offered me to install that. After doing so, it
still insisted that NTP is not installed.
I just had to close and re-open the "Date and time" Window to solve the problem.

[Bug 351174] [NEW] will flood user with notifications when loging on and pidgin recieves a backlog.

2009-03-29 Thread Mattias Eriksson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin-libnotify

When I login to my jabber account and joins a few chatrooms, I recieve a
backlog of the last hours. This backlog will trigger notifications to be
sent, this may be more than 50 notifications... which will have
notifications popping up in my face for a few minutes after I login.

I think that the notification shouldn't be enabled for a few seconds
after joining a chatroom, to avoid notifications for the backlog.

[Bug 61711] Re: very slow booting and no boot splash

2009-03-29 Thread Telorn
This bug also affects me.

System: Jaunty AMD64 Beta with all updates.
Hardware: Acer TM 6292 (Intel GMA X3100)

Description:
Boot is very slow and usplash turns off if i try to modify services launching
at startup, for example if I remove rsync and apport using
system-preferences-services it will be for about 50% slowly at boot (from 30s
to 60s).

Behavior:
- System starts booting, uspash is on the screen. (35s)
- then video mode starts frequently change (7-10s)
- then display goes to text mode and I see for example (attached picture) (5s)
- then GDM screen appears.
(notice, that originaly boot takes at all 30s)

And versus default configuration it really takes up to two times slowly,
got no ideas why it happenes.

Ready to provide any additional information, if needed.

[Bug 350399] Re: Xserver black screen on 3/28/09 update of Jaunty

2009-03-29 Thread Craig McDaniel
Thanks for the suggestions Bryce. My main problem is solved for now, but
some mysteries remain:

First, I disabled gdm to diagnose. I downgraded to the previous versions
of xserver-xorg-core and xserver-common using "dpkg -i
/var/cache/apt/archive/.deb" but continued to get a black
screen when starting X manually.

Mystery #1: Finally I tried enabling gdm again and it worked! I switched
back to the latest xserver-xorg-core and xserver-common and it still
worked! Other than adding the additional xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg
package, I should be back to the same configuration as when the issue
first occurred.

Mystery #2: I still don't understand why I can't start the X server
manually. It always works when using "/etc/init.d/gdm start". When I
kill gdm and try to start X using "/usr/X11R6/bin/X :0" or "startx"
nothing but a black screen appears. I even tried duplicating the way gdm
runs X, but still had no luck:

/usr/X11R6/bin/X :0 -br -audit 0 -auth /var/lib/gdm/:0.Xauth -nolisten
tcp vt7

gdm is doing something to make X work that I can't reproduce. If I can
ever figure out how to start X manually, it may help me resolve the
issue with resuming from a suspend. I have attached various log files.
The main difference between the Xorg.0.log files is that the one that
broken one doesn't show this section:

(II) intel(0): EDID vendor "GWY", prod id 2186
(II) intel(0): Using EDID range info for horizontal sync
(II) intel(0): Using EDID range info for vertical refresh
(II) intel(0): Printing DDC gathered Modelines:
(II) intel(0): Modeline "1680x1050"x0.0 146.37 1680 1784 1960 2240 1050 1056
1086 1089 +hsync +vsync (65.3 kHz)

The broken one also includes this error message:

(EE) intel(0): First SDVOC output reported failure to sync

but that only shows up after doing a VT switch.

It all worked prior to the update, so seems to be a Jaunty regression.

[Bug 350925] Re: libdrm-nouveau1.symbols declares incorrect dependency on libdrm2

2009-03-29 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
libdrm-nouveau1.symbols specifies libdrm2 as its dependant package,
rather than libdrm-nouveau1. This means that xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

[Bug 351166] [NEW] 9.04 beta & EeePC 900: Hotkeys / Suspend / Resume

2009-03-29 Thread Per Åkesson , Stockholm
Public bug reported:

9.04 beta & EeePC 900: Hotkeys / Suspend / Resume

Hardware: EeePC 900
Software: 9.04 beta
All tests after booting the live-CD, not performing install.

1. Suspend (Standby) hotkey:
First I tested Suspend from the menu alternatives. Worked just fine. The
suspend LED started blinking. Normal mode was resumed after I pressed a Shift
key.
Then I tested the Suspend hotkey, Fn-F1.
The screen blanked, but the suspend LED did not start blinking so I think it
was no real suspend..
It was impossible to wake the PC up from this situation.
Then I rebooted and tried the suspend hotkey a second time.
This time the suspend LED started blinkning but again it was impossible to wake
the PC up.

2. Wifi hotkey:
Pressing the wifi hotkey Fn-F2 had no effect. It was also impossible to
deactivate Wifi by rightclicking on the Network icon and unchecking "wireless".

[Bug 293063] Re: No blank screen when laptop lid is closed

2009-03-29 Thread Steve Langasek
gerjantd, if closing the lid does not change the state of
/proc/acpi/button/lid/LID/state, then you definitely have either a
kernel bug or a hardware bug (and probably a kernel bug, from what
you've said). Reassigning this report to the kernel package.

Users with different symptoms than those described by gerjantd should
file separate bug reports for their issues.

[Bug 351159] [NEW] cpufreq scaling_governor entry missing from /sys (with Core2 Quad CPU)

2009-03-29 Thread RichardNeill
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image

On a fully updated Jaunty system, with the latest kernel, and running on an
Intel Core2 Quad CPU, there
is no entry in /sys for the CPU scaling governor.

i.e. This file (referenced by the ondemand initscript) is missing:
  /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_governor

On another system with the same CPU (but running Mandriva 2009.0), the
scaling_governor entry is present.

I originally filed this as a bug in the ondemand initscript (Bug
#348715), but the initscript is correct, and so I suspect it is actually
a kernel bug.

Kernel version: Linux blackberry 2.6.28-11-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Fri
Mar 27 09:00:52 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

For dmesg, lsmod etc, see my earlier report on bug #348715.

Lastly, this might also relate to bug #344875.

[Bug 330811] Re: Can't connect to a hidden network

2009-03-29 Thread TuxFan
I wasn't able to make knetworkmanager connect automaticly either on my
quick test. Actually I wasn't able to make it to connect at all...

I wonder if this bug is limited to some specific hardware, since it
doesn't seem to affect a lot of people. (Not that I would have any idea
how many people are already using the beta and how many of them have
their a wireless network hidden...) But anyway, I'm using:

Access Point: Buffalo WHR-G54S (with dd-wrt + WPA mixed PSK)
Client: Thinkpad R50e (with Intel 2200BG [Calexica2] which uses the ipw2200
module)

I also had to reconfigure my network in plasma-widget-network-manager a
while back to be able to use the iwconfig trick mentioned earlier. I
don't remember what upgrades I got before that, but I don't think that
the plasma widget got an upgrade back then...

2009-03-29 Thread paul ivans
The current hardware is a medion 2120. The Gateway should work perfectly
with Ubuntu. You may have wireless networking problems though. I did
with my medion (otherwise absolutely perfect). To get around the
wireless connection problem, use a PC card wireless adapter TP link ones
generally work out of the box with Ubuntu 7.10 and up. MIne did. plug it
in, switch the computer on Ubuntu finds the hard way, and asks for
permissions to load closed source drivers. and that's it.

[Bug 339088] Re: python package should provide python-pysqlite2

2009-03-29 Thread Thomas M. Hinkle
Hmm -- I'm not sure this should be a problem for Gourmet. Old versions
of Gourmet used to check for either sqlite3 (which comes with
python2.5+) or pysqlite2 (which came with earlier versions). Newer
versions of gourmet use sqlalchemy to interface with sqlite, so I would
think that so long as Gourmet requires sqlalchemy, that would do it for
dependencies.

Am I missing something / is there a bug report that has a gourmet
traceback complaining if pysqlite2 is around?

This is like saying if you don't like the radio in your car, buy a
different one. My system is open. My framework is open. I can hit all
my hardware directly. And while I can not see inside the driver, I can
also not see inside the BIOS, and the other chips on the video card
and... There is a lot of "software" in every system that we can see
totally. So you have to draw a line somewhere. I draw mine in a
slightly different place than you. But do not think that you are not
also choosing to accept some closed source code.

Because the driver includes licensed software that they can not give
away.
