[Bug 354242] Crash report cannot be processed

2009-04-03 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate an useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

initramfs-tools: installed version 0.92bubuntu26, latest version:
0.92bubuntu27

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

[Bug 354455] [NEW] Visual Effects remove text from clickable buttons

2009-04-03 Thread newonlinux
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I have an Nvidia graphics card, and the proprietary drivers for it, and
I assume that it is causing the problem. I'm on Ubuntu 8.10

When I go to Appearence and change Visual Effects from off to Normal or
Extra, when I open an Open Office program, the words are missing from
the clickable buttons, like the menu tabs at the top (File, Edit, View
etc.)

They are there for a split second when the programs start, but then
disappear, and if I hover the mouse over the button they reappear for
another split second but then disappear again.

But other programs like Evolution or Gedit work fine with no missing
words.

won't let me edit my wired connection's name. It's stuck to auto eth0

[Bug 333730] Re: Wireless connection with ath9k is very unstable

2009-04-03 Thread Romuald
Why has it been set to invalid? We are some here to be be affected by
this bug.

I've found another way to display the problem, here is the test case:
- use your connection until it drops
- open a terminal, and ping your wifi hotspot and keep it running

Results will be :
- you'll get for about 20s to 30s the message Host unreachable
- then the connection works again and you'll get positive answers to the ping

so pam gives a warning about your password. I wonder what that is, have you
seen it
elsewhere?

The next thing is polkit-gnome-manager writing out a warning. Could you look
in ~/.xsession-errors to see if the warning is in there. This file is not
appended to after a while, so logging out and back in again, then reproducing
may help you find it there.

The last bit is it hanging on a read from an fd, the same fd that the pam
warning came from.

My guess is that the message is that your password will expire soon, but I'm not
sure why that would cause it to hang.

If we know what is going on in the PAM process then we can have some idea of
what
it may be waiting for.

Easier than searching for the messages may be to strace again, but with
strace -f -s 255, which should give enough information in the file itself
about what the warnings are.

Thanks,

James

[Bug 341605] Re: Wubi 9.04 uninstaller cannot delete the directory containing the uninstaller itself

2009-04-03 Thread Agostino Russo
Small regression, XP themes have been lost. The windows resource that
declares that XP themes have to be used is associated to pylauncher,
which in turns runs python.exe, but python.exe is a separate process
without that decoration.

Also might need to properly escape arguments. Will do some further edits
over the week=end.

[Bug 322202] Re: Session lost on resume from sleep in Jaunty on Lenovo T500

2009-04-03 Thread moritz
I can confirm this bug on a intel 945GM.
Problem is that EXA is unusable slow (tested with KDE4 desktop effects,
anholt openarena demo),
while UXA is fast but breaks suspend/resume.
So there should be either a fix for EXA (making it faster) or a fix for UXA
(fixing at least suspend/resume).
This is bug is definitely a show stopper on my hardware (and on other intel hw
too, i think).
Let me know if there is need for additional tests or debug output so i can help
you out on this.

[Bug 263543] Re: ubuntu 8.10 beta boot failure - patch attached

2009-04-03 Thread Fred
I downloaded ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.iso a couple of weeks ago and I get an
identical problem. The installation process stops shortly after displaying
Booting the kernel and shows the error message:
BUG: Int 14 : CR2 ffb41000
and then locks up.

The system has an Asus P5QL motherboard with a Core 2 Duo E8500 and 4 GB
RAM.

It's disappointing to see that, although this bug appears to have been
known about for some months, there is no mention of it in the 8.10
release notes.

[Bug 277946] Re: [intrepid] wizardpen tablet wont configure (multiple xinput entries)

2009-04-03 Thread Steffan Jacobs
I bought a Trust TB-6300 yesterday and have finally configured it in
Intrepid :D.

I was a hassle though.. the documentation has become a bit of a mess
apparently (see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/TabletSetupWizardpen
and the pages it links to)

I had to change
match key=usb.product_id int=4
in the above file to
match key=usb.product_id int=5
to make it match (noting it here just in case someone finds this trying to do
the same thing I did)

I'm using driver 0.7.0-alpha1 and added the TB-6300 configuration on the
help page mentioned above to xorg.conf (this because the calibration
mentioned there first did not seem to work for me)

Does anyone know if this going to be any easier in Jaunty? Would be
really nice if these devices would just work

If this thing actually helps fix my RSI I will be willing to help get it
done.

So basically, I'd say the packaging work is done already, thanks to Willem,

The only point would be to push it from Willem's PPA to universe (so find a

[Bug 353625] Re: smart bar sometimes doesn't search and match

I confirm.
Ubuntu Jaunty fully updated, still see the problem like once/twice per week.

I start typing into the location bar and no autocompletion of sites happens

It is not related with one adress: once it decides not to work, it will not
work consistently, I need to restart Firefox to make it work again.

[Bug 354228] Re: package python2.6-minimal 2.6.1-1ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade:

2009-04-03 Thread Robert D. Martin
Python3 installed under jaunty for me just now without a hitch. So at
least if the upgrade from Intrepid to Jaunty has been completed then
Python3 is available / installable thereafter under jaunty.

As I recall, my upgrade from intrepid to jaunty also entailed problems
with the installation of python 2.6 being in conflict with the then
standard use of python 2.5. That problem got corrected in the course of
jaunty being upgraded daily (my common practice).

[Bug 354466] [NEW] accent words - á ê ã ü show up as ´a ^e ~a ¨u

2009-04-03 Thread Renato Pedroso Henriques
Public bug reported:

Accent words are impossible to be reproduced in certains non-gnome apps. P.e.
Opera and Skype thus far. It does not happen with 8.04. It happened with
Intrepid and continues with Jaunty. The keyboard set up is ok. If copy and
pasted it shows up ok.
Use opera a lot, email included and skype messaging as well. It makes a
difference.

It does not happen with any other packages. Everything else ok.

Gnome 2.26.0
Jaunty Jackalope 9.04

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 345119] Re: Entire OS hard-locks randomly, mouse still works

2009-04-03 Thread zwaldowski
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 327844 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/327844

Yes, I can confirm that it is a duplicate of 327844, I talked with the
filer of the bug yesterday. Good to know that it's just an Xorg freeze
instead of a kernel one. I'm back in Intrepid now, so I can't post my
logfiles. However, I do remember that being in there. I'll test again
once I get any sort of idea that this is fixed, because I don't have
enough time to reinstall Jaunty again and then go back to Intrepid.

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 327844
compiz freezes xorg on intel graphics card

** Summary changed:

- Entire OS hard-locks randomly, mouse still works
+ Xorg hard-locks randomly, mouse still works; Intel X3100

** Description changed:

More or less as the title says, I am experiencing an issue with the
recent Jaunty alpha of Ubuntu. Both under Alpha 5 and Alpha 6, my
system (specs below) will randomly freeze up, with the mouse only
working and the rest of the system not respond. I must use the REISUB
trick to reboot, and cannot switch to a text terminal.

My computer is an HP dv6654us running Ubuntu Jaunty, fully updated as of
20 Mar (including the -11 kernel update). The OS is in a dual boot with
Windows 7 x64, however, this issue has also occurred while running a
  LiveCD.

  My specs are as follows:
   - Intel GMA x3100 (GM965 chipset) video
   - Realtek ALC268 sound
   - Synaptics Touchpad mouse
   - Intel 4965AGN Wireless

No hardware has changed since the last time I installed Ubuntu, or when
I previously had an Intrepid install in the same OS configuration.
+
+ Further investigation shows that this is a duplicate of bug 327844, and
+ it's just an Xorg freeze. Still upsetting, but a lot better than a
+ kernel bug.

[Bug 292042] Re: Logitech Bluetooth keyboards (Mediaboard Di Novo) not working on Intrepid

2009-04-03 Thread Ambricka
sure, but I don't have the synaptics problem on the other machines.
I think that one will sort out itself when standard bluetooth
probe/pair/connect works.
Then again, I don't know the difference between the internal logics of bluez vs
manually connecting with hidd.
