[Bug 119194] Re: [hardy] ps2 mouse erratic - parity errors - lost synchronization errors
Hi Thomas, I also noticed the same thing. As I got tired of the optical mouse's erratic actions I fired up the ol' Cordless MouseMan Wheel. It works perfectly - for a ball'd mouse. But this is not the whole story. I'm a dual booter... yes, it's the games, and noticed that the optical mouse would shut itself off from time to time in Windows also! With an exception that Windows didn't recover as good as Kubuntu did. I had to disconnect the cable and put it back in, with a prey it worked for a while but not always. I tried searching the cable for a magic spot with some serious twisting sessions but ended up with frustration. It was the cord, I knew it, but I had nothing to prove it as to where the faulty spot was. In conclusion, I'm now using ball mouse but will buy an optical one in the near future. I'm however confident that my problem was inside the mouse's cable, although I could not replicate the incident in a more sophisticated manner. -- [hardy] ps2 mouse erratic - parity errors - lost synchronization errors https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/119194 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 357569] Re: please set usershare path
OK, this bug is about "net usershare info" returning an error by default, resulting in nautilus-share spurious messages. You suggest adding "usershare path = /var/lib/samba/usershares" to smb.conf. [Bug 361505] [NEW] Hotkeys not detected on Asus F3sv (ACPI events)
Public bug reported: Hi Using jaunty fully updated (with live cd or with an upgraded intrepid), some hotkeys are not working on my laptop (asus f3sv). I followed the procedure there: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting . The hotkeys that are not working are sending ACPI events but no input event is generated. This is the list og these keys: "hotkey ATKD 0050 " -> should launch email client "hotkey ATKD 0051 " -> should launch web browser "hotkey ATKD 0061 " -> switch between LCD/external monitor (Maybe this one works, I couldn't test). "hotkey ATKD 005c " -> lock the screen "hotkey ATKD 0095 " -> the manual says "Launches a multimedia application (cd/dvd, tv, video, audio)". "hotkey ATKD 008a " -> the manual says "Switch between different color, brightness, sharpness and contrast presets". "hotkey ATKD 0082 " -> should launch a webcam app (cheese for example) "hotkey ATKD 0099 " -> the manual says "Activate or desativate "Power for Phone"", I think launching ekiga would be ok. Other keys are working great. Would it be possible to fix this for jaunty? It must be quite trivial to solve with the new hotkeys management architecture? In case this couldn't be done for jaunty, is there a workaround to make these hotkeys work? I can provide more info if needed. Thanks. [Bug 296142] Re: Installer fails to recognize display on Averatec 3280
I have just tried booting the Ubuntu 9.04 Beta CD (as a live CD) on this Averatec 3280 laptop. There is a significant improvement in the situation, but it is not quite perfect. What happens is that a large range of resolutions, above and below the optimum resolution of 1024x768 for the LCD display on this laptop. Initially the largest resolution is displayed, which has a problem: the display only shows the 1024x768 upper-left corner of this virtual display. Under Gnome, this is not a disaster, since the screen resolution can be set to 1024x768 from the System menu. However this would be a serious problem under distros using KDE, such as Kubuntu or Knoppix, since the panel is at the bottom of the screen, and would disappear. I have experienced that problem with the latest Knoppix, in fact. Also, I have not checked to see if something can be done about this at boot time, or when actually installing. And I have not yet checked to see what I can do by editing xorg.conf, for 9.04 Beta. Incidentally, there are some other displays which I've reported similar bugs about, which show up with a maximum 600x800 resolution - erring the other way - on a 1024x768 display. -- Installer fails to recognize display on Averatec 3280 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/296142 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 185600] Re: openoffice repeatedly freezes after resuming laptop from sleep
Considering this is a bug that occurs extensively, during very typical laptop usage patterns, with 100% default preinstalled applications, it would be nice to see it getting more attention... having to restart OpenOffice each time I resume the system is inconvenient. [Bug 301102] Re: no Xen-enabled kernel available in intrepid
I beg to differ. As far as I can tell from here and from Google, there is a bug in the decision-making process and/or public statements surrounding Ubuntu's support of Xen. I run a mid-sized Xen infrastructure of mixed Debian and Ubuntu machines. Until intrepid came out, I was deprecating the Debian nodes in favor of Ubuntu. That's all ground to a halt now. I'm still waiting for linux-image-*-xen packages to be available in the 8.10 universe. Xen support in Ubuntu appears to be being deprecated; articles are now scattered all over the net about Ubuntu's support for KVM at the expense of Xen -- I have yet to find any refutation of that. So far the trajectory of this bug is reinforcing that impression. It's as if Mark Shuttleworth's interview about KVM unintentionally shot Ubuntu Xen in the back. Why would anyone want to maintain the linux-image-*-xen packages if they think that Shuttleworth himself doesn't like it? KVM and Xen are orthogonal -- it almost looks like somehow, ever since Mark's interview, the Ubuntu community has got it in their heads that data centers can switch back and forth between two completely different virtualization platforms that meet different needs. "Supporting KVM" is not a great excuse for not providing support for Xen. It's like saying "we don't support Apache, because there's a perfectly good HTTP server included in the python distribution". It makes no rational sense. This has got to be causing damage to Ubuntu's user base. In my own case, I'm considering the prospect of having to go back to Debian, even though I consider Ubuntu to be a much better distribution otherwise. Going backwards like that would be, well, outrageous. Please tell me this is all a misunderstanding, and that the Xen packages currently missing from the intrepid repository are an oversight. Please tell me that there are actually plans in the works for moving xen from universe to main -- that would make a lot of sense, considering how critical both Ubuntu and Xen are becoming in data centers. ** Package changed: ubuntu => linux-meta (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux-meta (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- no Xen-enabled kernel available in intrepid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/301102 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 361494] [NEW] Kde menu does not go away when it should
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace This is also reported in Linux Mint. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=161&t=24079 "It's actually staying open until you click again on the start button or launch something. Clicking the desk top does nothing. I would think it would go away if I click on another window. It also stays on top at all times, although there is probably a setting that will let other windows cover it if you maximize them." This bug is very annoying and appeared lately on 2 of my desktops with up-to-date Jaunty, most probably after KDE upgrade to 4.2.2. Bug is completely reproducible. Click on kde menu icon on the taskbar then click anywhere on the destop - menu should go off, but it stays on the desktop and does not allow to do anything on the desktop, until you click once more on the kde menu icon. [Bug 360530] Re: On first boot "Gave up waiting for root device"
During the install, when asked, I said no to activating the SATA RAID. I have attached a screen shot of the prompt. I think that this is another bug. Having to say No to installing a raid when I want a raid setup is confusing. The reason is I want a software raid and the question is about installing a hardware raid. [Bug 247318] Re: Dapper lvm over software raid kills ext3
Looks like a hardware problem to me too. You could try to isolate one of the servers that has the problem fairly often, make it run on just one disk for some time (e.g. off office hours, after the backup). Power off, remove a disk, power on and run fsck, reboot, simulate some load for some, reboot, fsck, check if there are problems. Yes? not related to raid. Power off, Re-add the disk you removed to the raid. Power on, boot knoppix, wait for your disk to be in sync (hours). Fsck. Problems that were not there just before power-off => probably bad hardware. Then reboot, simulate some load, fsck again. No problem now? Your raid was out of sync. This is not an e2fsprogs problem though. Either hardware, kernel or both. Waiting for more info to redispatch. ** Changed in: e2fsprogs (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- Dapper lvm over software raid kills ext3 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/247318 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 336521] Re: regression: resume on Presario V2000 notebook leaves backlight off
This problem seems to be due to a change in the way the quirks are set - it is now done straight out of the HAL database, rather than from the config file. How are we supposed to know this The quirk keys can be set to new values by hand using the hal-set- property, after parsing the output of lshal | grep "quirk" to find the correct key name. The syntax is: sudo hal-set-property --udi '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer' --key "power_management.quirk.dpms_suspend" --bool "false" to set QUIRK-DPMS-SUSPEND to false, for instance. I've tracked the problem back to libvirt-0.6.1 source, in the configure file, line 48744. For what i get it checks if qemu-img exists in the compiling host, and enable support for it only if this is the case. IMHO qemu-img (and kvm-img for that matter) should be detected at run time and not compile time. This would involve some changes in the configure script, and, at least, some changes in src/storage_backend_fs.c. Dunno if this is still the case with libvirt-0.6.2. Any additional info just ask. [Bug 125106] Re: fsck not updating clean history
> Mount count: 4 > Next check after: Tue Jan 8 16:52:30 2008 So yes, the "history" is actually updated. Marking invalid. As you suggested, your problem may be time initialization on your system. It's probably better for you to completely disable checking intervals using tune2fs, and then remember to check once in a while. ** Changed in: e2fsprogs (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- fsck not updating clean history https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/125106 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 291198] Re: notification area flickers
Mr.UNOwen, Thank you for taking the time to file this report. Can you update us on whether you are still encountering this issue? If so, what version of Ubuntu are you using? Have you applied all available patches? Are you using visual effects packages? Have you attempted to recreate this behavior without visual effects enabled? If you have already considered the questions above, then please attach your xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log files to this report so we can dig a little deeper into your configuration. Thanks for your help. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Incomplete -- notification area flickers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/291198 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 359997] Re: after update, prompted with "Record your encryption passphrase"; get no confirmation from terminal
ok thanks for clearing it up. I think it was just unexpected, and I didn't understand the whole interaction with the 'run this action now' terminal window. -- after update, prompted with "Record your encryption passphrase"; get no confirmation from terminal https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/359997 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
