Hi Anthony, thanks for your reply. I'm affraid that I did already everything that you suggested. [Bug 259757] Re: No shortcut / .desktop file for Hardy installation
i can confirm this in: xubuntu-9.04-rc-i386, pessulus version 2.26.0-0ubuntu1 (jaunty) Pessulus shows as installed in Applications -> Add/Remove, but it isnt found in any of the menus under Applications. Yes Oliver Grawert, I checked both the Applications -> System and the Applications -> Settings menus, and all the others, yet I couldnt find it. It also cant be found when searching in Application Finder. Thunar doesnt show it at /usr/share/applications, but Catfish finds it there. The program does run from Catfish, but clicking Help in bottom-left of Pessulus just closes Pessulus. The README file says to see HACKING for reporting bugs for this pkg but i couldnt find that file either. [Bug 287013] Re: hardy and intrepid beta cause system hang before login screen on ga pcv2
I also have this problem - I have tested it with two different versions of the GA-PCV2 motherboard, one with the VIA Samuel 2 800 MHz processor (GA-PCV2 CSI-SI) and one with the VIA Nehemiah 1.0 GHz processor (GA- PCV2 DSI-ID). Otherwise, the boards are identical. I successfully installed 8.10 on the board with the Samuel 2 processor and it works fine - no issues at all. If I swap the hard drive over to the board with the Nehemiah processor, it hangs as soon as Xorg starts up. Before that point, I can call up a command prompt and log in using ctrl-alt-F1. The Nehemiah based motherboard works fine with a Windows XP install. It appears that something in Xorg doesn't like the Nehemiah processor. Also during install, if I press ctrl-alt-F1 and watch the processes as they start up, it always hangs just before hald completes. -- hardy and intrepid beta cause system hang before login screen on ga pcv2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/287013 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 343224] Re: deleted items not in trash
David (and anyone else who's reading this), I think it's worth noting that at some point, between the time I originally posted this issue and before the beta came out, I downloaded an update that corrected this. [Bug 326674] Re: Logitech Quickcam E2500 not supported
Leann's post makes it clear that there will not be a fix until after release of Jaunty. The Kernel is in code freeze pending release. However, the work around posted works fine for me. It's not hard. simply go here: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.29.1/ Download the Kernel image for your architecture and install it with the package installer that will open it automatically. Then Restart. For me, the New Kernel fixed the camera, but it made some other things a little funky. So I edited grub so that the 2.6.29.1 kernel was the second boot option. When I want to use the Camera, I reboot and select that kernel. That should hold you over until the fix is in. -- Logitech Quickcam E2500 not supported https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/326674 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: i have an intermittent problem with laggy sound in ubuntu intrepid ibex that surfaces when the network manager accesses a wireless network. what happens is when i try to play a song (any media player) or any program that deals with audio (alsamixer, etc), the program becomes laggy, slow, and unresponsive. windows on the desktop are also frozen in place and i cant drag them to move them or right click. im not sure what package would be causing this, so i am describing this the best i can. the problem goes away if i disable networking (and the ability to get on the 'net altogether). ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - network manager causes sound lag + network manager causes sound/desktop lag ** Description changed: - i have a problem with laggy sound in ubuntu intrepid ibex that surfaces - when the network manager accesses a wireless network. what happens is - when i try to play a song (any media player) or any program that deals - with audio (alsamixer, etc), the sound becomes laggy, slow, and - unresponsive. windows on the desktop are also frozen in place and i cant - drag them to move them or right click on them. + i have an intermittent problem with laggy sound in ubuntu intrepid ibex + that surfaces when the network manager accesses a wireless network. + what happens is when i try to play a song (any media player) or any + program that deals with audio (alsamixer, etc), the program becomes + laggy, slow, and unresponsive. windows on the desktop are also frozen in + place and i cant drag them to move them or right click. im not sure what + package would be causing this, so i am describing this the best i can. ** Description changed: i have an intermittent problem with laggy sound in ubuntu intrepid ibex that surfaces when the network manager accesses a wireless network. what happens is when i try to play a song (any media player) or any program that deals with audio (alsamixer, etc), the program becomes laggy, slow, and unresponsive. windows on the desktop are also frozen in place and i cant drag them to move them or right click. im not sure what package would be causing this, so i am describing this the best i can. + + the problem goes away if i disable networking. - the problem goes away if i disable networking. + the problem goes away if i disable networking (and the ability to get on + the 'net altogether). -- network manager causes sound/desktop lag https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363597 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 341224] Re: "Window previews" compiz extra plug-in should work for MINIMIZED windows as well
This is a known thing that is quite frequently talked about at the Compiz forums. It is nearly impossible to make a solution for this until X.org implements input redirection, and that is moving at a glacial rate. Looking at http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showpost.php?p=43093&postcount=2 and http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showthread.php?t=2822&highlight=window+previews+minimized+windows might shed some light as to why. Oh, and Vista's way of handling this is to take a picture when a window is minimized. [Bug 362629] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 rc does not boot on k8
First of all I apologize if this is posted twice. I responded via e-mail first and didn't see the response listed on the bug report page so if it does appear spontaneously from the ethereal void, you'll know why. I would like to add that I used the daily and got the same result. Waiting for a while and exiting busybox allowed it to continue to boot. I should also add that this was installed via wubi on an XP partition. I know its not related to this bug, but upon installation it asks to install to a partition and fails to see the virtual partition that wubi created as it appears to be running off of the livecd image. It will try to install to any real partition you have. Not really what you want when you already created a virtual partition. I remember from before that it would just install by default to the virtual drive, so I'm thinking that this bug is also affecting the detection of the fs... [Bug 363594] [NEW] Videos found with Totem's Youtube plugin don't play
Public bug reported: I'm using today's (April 18th) current daily ubu...@ubuntu:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 9.04 Release:9.04 ##My Actions## Boot from a (non-persistent) USB stick created with today's daily CD Open Totem Select YouTube from the dropdown Search for "kitties" (or anything else, but what else could you want?) Double-click on the first result (aww...isn't the kitty cute?) "Search for suitable plugin?" dialogue appears.[1] Press "Search" [1]: Full text of "Search for suitable plugin?" dialogue: The required software to play this file is not installed. You need to install suitable plugins to play media files. Do you want to search for a plugin that supports the selected file? The search will also include software which is not officially supported. ##Expected result## Find the required plugins, list them and prompt me to install them. Warn me about potential legal issues and if I am accessing previously disabled repositories. After I confirm, install the plugins, then return to totem and play the video. ##Actual result## An error dialogue: No packages with the requested plugins found The requested plugins are: H.264 decoder MPEG-4 AAC decoder Press OK. Another error dialogue appears: An error occurred The playback of this movie requires the following decoders which are not installed: H.264 decoder MPEG-4 AAC decoder Double clicking on the video again (or other videos) doesn't search for plugins again, it just brings up the "An error has occured" dialogue. ##Solution## After enabling community maintained software through the Add/Remove Programs or Software Sources dialogues and restarting Totem, the same "Search for suitable plugin?" dialogue is displayed, but the search successfully finds the gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg and gstreamer0.10-plugins- bad packages. After selecting install, the "Confirm installation of restricted software" dialogue is displayed, then installation proceeds. After this, the videos play. Despite saying that "The search will also include software which is not officially supported." it appears that this does not in fact occur if the relevant repositories are disabled. This should be fixed. [Bug 363592] [NEW] for UNR 9.04 RC, sound doesn't work out-of-box on HP 1030nr netbook
Public bug reported: I installed the UNR 9.04 RC on an HP 1030nr netbook. The good news is nearly everything works great and I was really impressed with UNR both functionally and aesthetically. The bad news is that for the HP 1030nr netbook, the sound did not work out of the box. Basically to fix the problem I had to compile and use the latest version of ALSA. To get the sound working, I used the information available on several bug threads for the HP netbooks. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=997590 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=996724 https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+question/57848 However no individual solution worked, and after trying them all several times and I had given up. I discovered however upon the (strangely, not the first, but the second) reboot after giving up that the sound was in fact now working. So *some* combination of recompiling the latest ALSA drivers (although the utils never completely 100% successfully) and fiddling with the volume controls as discussed in those threads managed to solve the problem. Needless to say, having sound trouble made the release feel very "1999" for linux. I'm quite experienced with computers and compiling my own software, so if I had trouble then most people would not be able to fix it. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- for UNR 9.04 RC, sound doesn't work out-of-box on HP 1030nr netbook https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363592 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

SW, I recommend you to stick with the ubuntu kernel. A PPA is always missing packages like backport-modules, ubuntu-modules etc. So you might get problems with update processes. Either stick with one kernel or everytime recompile/install (how i do it). What is the problem with compiling? To decrease compiling time you can compile for specific cards only, i always compile for usb and hda-intel only like this: ./configure --with-cards=hda-intel,usb-audio make make install only do that, no external packages etc. Compiling is the cleanest way to install kernel modules. [Bug 363192] Re: sqlite3 packaged in Jaunty cannot open databases which use "indexed" keyword, and is therefore incompatible with Axiom
Steve - this issue renders the Axiom package completely unusable. I don't understand Launchpad or Ubuntu release workflow very well, but I would think that keeping the issue open in python-axiom until one can use the package makes sense, even if there's no work for that project to do? -- sqlite3 packaged in Jaunty cannot open databases which use "indexed" keyword, and is therefore incompatible with Axiom https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363192 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 362629] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 rc does not boot on k8
Hm, there might still be an issue regarding persistence. I used 4/19/2009's "Jaunty-desktop-i386" build but even though I asked the usb- creator to make a persistent usb, the resulting live usb was NOT persistent. So the new x86 build is now confirmed to create a working live usb, but it might not make a persistent one. [Bug 285392] Re: Softreset failed (device not ready)
I am also getting this error out of no where. I upgraded the guts of an old computer I had, keeping only the case. it has dual channel 2 x 2GB DDR2 OCZ ram, LiteON dvd+/-RW drive, Seagate 1.5TB SATA II hard drive, a Linksys WMP110 PCI card, and an Asus M4A78-E motherboard using the onboard HDMI for video out to TV with a Phenom II X4 3.0GB proc. Everything started out fine, except I couldn't get get the audio out via the HDMI in 8.10 or 9.04, so I stuck XP on for the mean time. I noticed XP was locking up every now and then, and then it was locking up like crazy. I went to put 8.10 back on, but using two different DVD drives, moving the HD to a different SATA port, and trying SATA/IDE mode, RAID (in RAID READY mode), and AHCI mode. They all are comming up "Softreset failed (device not ready)". I'd love to figure this out, as on a semi-related note my fiancées dad's Athlon64 X2 with a SATA II HD running XP is doing the same random lock- ups, even after everything had been changed except the hard drive. I'm wondering if a flaw/bug in SATA II or NCQ is popping up -- Softreset failed (device not ready) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/285392 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
