[Bug 311487] Re: ldap n-way multi master from Ubuntu Server guide

2009-04-19 Thread vsu
Hi Adam,

i followed this link to to install and configure

https://help.ubuntu.com/8.10/serverguide/C/openldap-server.html

i did exactly the same way in all machines as per link

but still i am getting same error

the log is: bdb_equality_candidates entryUUID not indexed

then i added one user to one server so that got replicated on all
servers

but now the log has changed to:
bdb_equality_candidates entryCSN not indexed

later i tried adding one more user from some other ldap server.
its adding locally only. not replicating on all servers

now again some more log messages:
slapd[4711]: connection_read(26): no connection !
slapd[4711]: connection_read(26): no connection !

from which ladp server i have added latest user...

And one more log msg: cannot initialize libpolkit
i don't know whether this message is related to ldap or not

this is how my replication is failing ...
i am not an openldap expert
plz suggest me how to solve this issue

help me

thanks
vsu

[Bug 363576] [NEW] problem accessing shared folders

2009-04-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm having a problem accessing shared folders on other local machines.
I'm using Ubuntu 8.04.2. All updates have been applied.

1. Nautilus sees other computers on the network, but when I click on one
of them, after a long pause, it just shows a blank window with no shared
folders.

2. From the terminal smbclient //nasdrive/sharedfolder -U username returns:
timeout connecting to 206.112.100.151:445
timeout connecting to 206.112.100.151:139
Error connecting to 206.112.100.151 (Operation already in progress)
Connection to nasdrive failed (Error NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED)

I have no idea where 206.112.100.151 comes from. It's always this same
address, and I have no machines with that IP address.

3. From the terminal, sudo smbtree responds correctly. Also, it fixes
the other problems, temporarily. Nautilus can now access shared drives.
The same smbclient command above now accesses the appropriate folder,
with no errors. It's necessary to run smbtree with sudo. Without using
sudo, smbtree responds correctly, but it doesn't fix the other problems.

4. After reboot, all the problems return.

5. Both my installed system and the live CD behave the same.

Fairly recently, I got a new router and switch. Nothing fancy, just the

To reproduce it:

1) Install the libavcodec52 (this will remove the unstripped one)
2) Try to install dvdstyler

This will install dvdstyler, but will also uninstall the libavcodec52

[Bug 363611] [NEW] Pulseaudio crackly output and dies frequently

2009-04-19 Thread Nick B.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Pulseaudio has terrible sound output. It skips and jumps and has a what
the best I can describe as a crackly output. I'm pretty sure that this
is related to the fact the pulseaudio dies every few minutes. I can't
make it though listening to 1 song before it dies. It's also dumping a
lot stuff in the syslog. What seems to be relevant and repeated numerous
times when pulseaudio seems to die is

pulseaudio[11493]: module-alsa-sink.c: Increasing wakeup watermark to 40.00 ms
pulseaudio[11493]: module-alsa-source.c: Increasing wakeup watermark to 40.00 ms
pulseaudio[11493]: module-alsa-source.c: Increasing wakeup watermark to 80.00 ms
pulseaudio[11493]: module-alsa-sink.c: Increasing wakeup watermark to 80.00 ms
pulseaudio[11493]: module-alsa-sink.c: Increasing wakeup watermark to 160.00 ms
pulseaudio[11493]: module-alsa-sink.c: Increasing wakeup watermark to 160.00 ms
pulseaudio[11493]: module-alsa-sink.c: Increasing wakeup watermark to 320.00 ms
pulseaudio[11493]: module-alsa-sink.c: Increasing minimal latency to 8.00 ms
pulseaudio[11493]: rtpoll.c: Assertion 'usec = ((pa_usec_t)
100ULL)*60ULL*60ULL' failed at pulsecore/rtpoll.c:516, function
pa_rtpoll_set_timer_relative(). Aborting.

Sound worked perfectly fine on Intrepid.

[Bug 363610] Re: dvdstyler unmet (libs and libs-unstripped) dependencies

2009-04-19 Thread fabrice_sp
Hi,

DVDStyler needs the unstripped version of libavcodec to work correctly
(because of mpeg2 encoding), so the fix you are proposing will let a non
working dvdstyler.

All app that depends on libavcodec52 have been recompiled to also
depends on unstripped (the dependency is generated as libavcodec52 (=
3:0.svn20090128-1) | libavcodec-unstripped-52 (= 3:0.svn20090128-1).

If installing dvdstyler uninstall other applications, that because they
hasn't been recompiled properly.

Can you send the output of:
apt-cache policy dvdstyler

Thanks,
Fabrice

[Bug 287013] Re: hardy and intrepid beta cause system hang before login screen on ga pcv2

2009-04-19 Thread Geoff K
I also have this problem - I have tested it with two different versions
of the GA-PCV2 motherboard, one with the VIA Samuel 2 800 MHz processor
(GA-PCV2 CSI-SI) and one with the VIA Nehemiah 1.0 GHz processor (GA-
PCV2 DSI-ID). Otherwise, the boards are identical. I successfully
installed 8.10 on the board with the Samuel 2 processor and it works
fine - no issues at all. If I swap the hard drive over to the board with
the Nehemiah processor, it hangs as soon as Xorg starts up. Before that
point, I can call up a command prompt and log in using ctrl-alt-F1. The
Nehemiah based motherboard works fine with a Windows XP install.

It appears that something in Xorg doesn't like the Nehemiah processor.

Also during install, if I press ctrl-alt-F1 and watch the processes as
they start up, it always hangs just before hald completes.

[Bug 259757] Re: No shortcut / .desktop file for Hardy installation

2009-04-19 Thread roweezyfosheezy
i can confirm this in: xubuntu-9.04-rc-i386, pessulus version
2.26.0-0ubuntu1 (jaunty)

Pessulus shows as installed in Applications - Add/Remove, but it isnt
found in any of the menus under Applications. Yes Oliver Grawert, I
checked both the Applications - System and the Applications - Settings
menus, and all the others, yet I couldnt find it. It also cant be found
when searching in Application Finder. Thunar doesnt show it at
/usr/share/applications, but Catfish finds it there. The program does
run from Catfish, but clicking Help in bottom-left of Pessulus just
closes Pessulus. The README file says to see HACKING for reporting bugs
for this pkg but i couldnt find that file either. I of course logged out
and restarted several times but still same issue.

[Bug 363265] Re: kdenlive crashes with SIGSEV 11 upon starting

thanks for your reply. I'm affraid that I did already everything that you

what I just found out is the following:
I miss the package frei0r in my repositories. Is this a mandatory package for
kdenlive?
And why do I miss this package?
I just ran the command suggested on the website
http://www.kdenlive.org/user-manual/downloading-and-installing-kdenlive/pre-compiled-packages/ubuntu-packages:
sudo apt-get install kdenlive dvgrab frei0r swh-plugins libfaad0

and I get the following message:
sudo apt-get install kdenlive dvgrab frei0r swh-plugins libfaad0
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
kdenlive is already the newest version.
dvgrab is already the newest version.
Package frei0r is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package frei0r has no installation candidate

What I have installed is the package frei0r-plugins !!! Is this the same?
I do not get the package frei0r offered.

As I said before I run kubuntu. Can someone confirm that the new package
works with kubuntu?

I attached my sources.list. Maybe I miss an important repository.

Thank you all for your help

[Bug 363618] [NEW] Computer crashes when Compositing switched on

2009-04-19 Thread Dragonheart
Public bug reported:

I'm using Kubuntu 9.04 (RC1)
The problem might be in Xorg-ati, xorg-server or maybe kwin.
When I switch on 'Desktopeffects' in 'SystemsettingsDesktpDesktop effects' I
get all the nice eyecandy imediatelly and I'm able to work for a while (a
couple of minutes). But after a random period of time the whole system freezes
- usually the screen gets black and the machine dosn't react on either input -
neither the keyboard(ctrl+alt+del) nor the powerbutton on the case causes any
reaction. The only possibility is to 'pull the plug' (press 'power'-butten for
more than 5 seconds). At rebooting i often have trouble afterwards and have to
use the recovery-mode to repair filesystem.
At some occurancies, I can see the desktop after the crash (but not touch
anything) instead of the black screen but apart from that the situation is the
same.
When using the OpenGL-setting 'common RAM' only the X-Server crashed and I was
dropped to KDM.

My hardware:
CPU:Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
GPU:ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R350 [Radeon 9800 Pro]
Audio: Intel ICH5 with AD1980 (Intel ICH5)

Re: [Bug 195698] Re: Password asked separately for each tab that requires it

2009-04-19 Thread David
On the other hand, other people can (if you're not attending the PC,
and have the master password already entered), also log into your
webmail, internet banking, ebay account, etc, and start doing
nefarious things there too, even if they can't immediately see your
password in a text file somewhere.

It's basically a matter of how much you trust other people who you
leave at your PC.

If you're paranoid about such things it's better to quickly create a
new system account, lock your current window manager login, and then
login to the new window manager as the new user (and make sure that
your home directory permissions are secure).

On Sun, Apr 19, 2009 at 1:13 AM, Gerry gerry.spm+lnch...@gmail.com wrote:
Those two solutions aren't much good if for instance you're logged in
and people start using your computer and you can't stick around to watch
everything they do. With a master password on the manager you can feel
free to allow then to look up clips on Youtube and not worry about them
jotting down all your passwords while you're out of the room.

Hi,

Here is a cleaner patch, that works in Intrepid and Jaunty

yu2: to apply this patch, you have to get the kernel source, apply the patch
and recompile it (you can find the steps to get the kernel source and compile
at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/Compile).
To apply the patch, you need to be inside
When compiled (1h later), you just need to copy
debian/build/kernel-flavour/drivers/media/dvb/bt8xx/bt878.ko to

[Bug 363619] [NEW] Please remove hunspell-de-med in Jaunty

2009-04-19 Thread der_vegi

hunspell-de-med in language-support-extra-de causes malfunction of openoffice's

[Bug 270646] Re: [intrepid] System freezes when running xrandr with an external monitor plugged - Thinkpad T42 - radeon

2009-04-19 Thread Andrew Fuchs
This just started happening on my machine within the past day.

On Intrepid x86_64 with some ATI integrated card, when X starts while my
laptop is connected to my TV (with s-video), the laptop freezes, leaving
me with a solid black screen.

If I boot without the tv connected, then use amdcccle to clone my
desktop to the tv, it works. After doing that, I use the same tool to
change my resolution, which changes the resolution and freezes (but the
desktop does not adapt to that resolution as it used to).

[Bug 338645] Re: linux freezes completely since 2.6.28-7

2009-04-19 Thread fixture
Same problem here. Thinkpad X61. Computer freezes during high disk
activity. Though, it's probably not EXT4, because I had the same problem
with a EXT3/Reiserfs setup. In fact, I did a clean ext4 install to test
out my original theory of this being a reiserfs problem.

Sometimes you can recover from the freeze by waiting a bit and gently
tap the power button, which can bring up the Gnome shutdown panel. Even
after recovery, computer quickly becomes unusable and loaded with some
kind of processing. If you check powertop, you would find the processor
mysteriously at C0 80 or 90% of the time with no program attributable to
the activity.

No weird messages or oops in kernel log. But I do have a theory about
this being a problem with Ath5k.

2009-04-19 Thread Christian Theune
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This is with Ubuntu 9.04, all updates available right now applied.

I stumbled over this as evolution started to hang when activating the
calendar component with the message Opening file

I toyed around a bit and deleted all the ~/.evolution/calendar/local
directories, causing evolution to get unstuck when switching to the
calendar component (although my calendar entries are now missing).

Trying to get my entries back, I took the backup of the deleted
directory and tried importing the ICS files individually, causing a
hang.

I traced the hang, see attached backtrace.

My guess is that there is some specific event object that causes
evolution to choke - both when it's already imported and the calendar
gets activated and when the same ICS file gets imported.

[Bug 353449] Re: lyx 1.6.1 impossibly slow on a fast Ubuntu 8.10

2009-04-19 Thread Johannes Hessellund
I just installed Jaunty last night, and as part of it, LyX 1.6.2 from
the repos.

LyX seems incredible sluggish while scrolling.
While scrolling in LyX, xorg uses 99% cpu !

This might be related!

I had no troubles on Intrepid!

[Bug 363265] Re: kdenlive crashes with SIGSEV 11 upon starting

2009-04-19 Thread Michael Chalvatzis
guys,

finally I found the trick that worked for me too. it is described by C.A.B. in
this bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdenlive/+bug/363430

one exception I still have on the description. reinstalling the frei0r-plugins
package makes kdenlive still to crash.
so I will leave frei0r-plugins deinstalled until it is really necessary
receommended by kdenlive...

Maybe someone fixes the entry on the webpage http://www.kdenlive.org
/user-manual/downloading-and-installing-kdenlive/pre-compiled-packages
/ubuntu-packages with the wrong and non-existent package name frei0r.

cheers, Michael

solved for me too now.

[Bug 358672] Re: Kontact hangs/crashes after running for some time

2009-04-19 Thread LarsIvarIgesund
I don't know what's up with Apport, but today the KDE Crash handler
decided to take action and I got a new stack trace for you.

It appears to be slightly different from the earlier ones, but it still
involves the systray stuff. When that is said, it may not be the real
reason since it appears to hang long before it crash (which can be
forced by clicking one of the systray icons).

Program: Kontakt (kontact). Signal: SIGSEGV.

[Bug 311487] Re: ldap n-way multi master from Ubuntu Server guide

2009-04-19 Thread vsu
Hi Adam,

i followed this link to to install and configure

https://help.ubuntu.com/8.10/serverguide/C/openldap-server.html

i did exactly the same way in all machines as per link

but still i am getting same error

the log is: bdb_equality_candidates entryUUID not indexed

then i added one user to one server so that got replicated on all
servers

but now the log has changed to:
bdb_equality_candidates entryCSN not indexed

later i tried adding one more user from some other ldap server.
its adding locally only. not replicating on all servers

now again some more log messages:
slapd[4711]: connection_read(26): no connection !
slapd[4711]: connection_read(26): no connection !

from which ladp server i have added latest user...

And one more log msg: cannot initialize libpolkit
i don't know whether this message is related to ldap or not

this is how my replication is failing ...
i am not an openldap expert
plz suggest me how to solve this issue

help me

thanks
vsu

[Bug 8629] Re: Evolution setup wizard does not fit in 800x600

2009-04-19 Thread Alan Bell
I am struggling to rebuild evolution, it compiles and installs but won't
start, the error is Evolution can not start. Your system configuration
does not match your evolution configuration I am fairly optimistic that
adding the line

gtk_window_set_resizable(= ((GtkWindow *)w, TRUE);

at line 919 of e-util/e-config.c will at least allow resizing the
dialog.

[Bug 363630] [NEW] aiglx error after upgrading to compiz 8.2

2009-04-19 Thread baytuni
Public bug reported:

I recently upgraded my system to jaunty. But after then I realized that
some packages had not been upgraded and they have stars on them in the
synaptic manager so I did these upgrades:

Upgraded the following packages:
command-not-found (0.2.34ubuntu2) to 0.2.34ubuntu3
command-not-found-data (0.2.34ubuntu2) to 0.2.34ubuntu3
compiz (1:0.8.2-0ubuntu7) to 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8
compiz-core (1:0.8.2-0ubuntu7) to 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8
compiz-gnome (1:0.8.2-0ubuntu7) to 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8
compiz-plugins (1:0.8.2-0ubuntu7) to 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8
compiz-wrapper (1:0.8.2-0ubuntu7) to 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8
libdecoration0 (1:0.8.2-0ubuntu7) to 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8
libgl1-mesa-dev (7.4-0ubuntu2) to 7.4-0ubuntu3
libgl1-mesa-dri (7.4-0ubuntu2) to 7.4-0ubuntu3
libgl1-mesa-glx (7.4-0ubuntu2) to 7.4-0ubuntu3
libglu1-mesa (7.4-0ubuntu2) to 7.4-0ubuntu3
libglu1-mesa-dev (7.4-0ubuntu2) to 7.4-0ubuntu3
libpoppler-dev (0.10.5-1ubuntu1) to 0.10.5-1ubuntu2
libpoppler-glib4 (0.10.5-1ubuntu1) to 0.10.5-1ubuntu2
libpoppler-qt4-3 (0.10.5-1ubuntu1) to 0.10.5-1ubuntu2
libpoppler-qt4-dev (0.10.5-1ubuntu1) to 0.10.5-1ubuntu2
libpoppler4 (0.10.5-1ubuntu1) to 0.10.5-1ubuntu2
mesa-common-dev (7.4-0ubuntu2) to 7.4-0ubuntu3
mesa-utils (7.4-0ubuntu2) to 7.4-0ubuntu3
poppler-utils (0.10.5-1ubuntu1) to 0.10.5-1ubuntu2
ubuntu-wallpapers (0.28.2) to 0.28.4
usb-creator (0.1.15) to 0.1.16

and then compiz stopped to work. The I automatically updated xorg.conf by sudo
dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg but nothing changed. So I decided to run
compiz check to see what is going on and it gave the output as:
Gathering information about your system...

 Distribution: Ubuntu 9.04
 Desktop environment: GNOME
Graphics chip: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 03)
 Driver in use: intel
 Rendering method: None

Checking if it's possible to run Compiz on your system... [SKIP]

 Checking for hardware/setup problems... [SKIP]

At least one check had to be skipped:
Error: No rendering method in use (AIGLX, Xgl or Nvidia)

So somehow rendering method is disabled. I think this is a sort of upgrade bug.
On the other hand I have no idea how to re-enable it again. I'm also attaching
my Xorg.0.log

Trying Kubuntu 9.04 beta, network-manager from the desktop bar shows
some wifi networks, and the only one from our home which is unsecured
(without any password for anything, and no encryption, etc.), is shown
with the lock next to it, as the other secured networks from our
neighbors.

I attempted to connect, as usual, and it doesn't request any passowrd,
etc.

[Bug 347624] Re: No usplash with resume= parameter

2009-04-19 Thread willie boy
this is probably a problem with the swap uuid not being correct in
fstab and resume. the following fix worked for me:

open terminal and run code:
sudo blkid

then copy the swap uuid without the quotes
 run code:
gksu gedit /etc/fstab
paste the correct uuid into fstab (be sure it is the swap file uuid)
save and close gedit

then run code:
gksu gedit /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume
again, copy the correct swap uuid, save and close gedit

add the resume call if you dont have it in place

finally run code:
sudo update-initramfs -u

it should work when you reboot--at least it did for me

[Bug 363634] [NEW] I cannot focus Evolution through the applet if it was launched with alltray

2009-04-19 Thread Javier García Díaz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-applet

If I launch Evolution using alltray (alltray -na evolution), the
indicator applet works mostly fine (an envelope icon apperars and it
shows when there are new messages). However, if I try to focus evolution
by clicking in the applet and selecting Evolution mail, it does
nothing.

I actually don't expect this to work, but I wonder why it is half-
working. I mean, if the applet detects evolution to the extent of
showing new messages, why it cannot focus the application too?

Many thanks
