[Bug 373472] [NEW] Danish keyboard spacebar types non-breaking spaces
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 9.04 I use several keyboard layouts, but have a problem with the Danish layout. When typing in the Danish keyboard layout I discovered that the space bar, instead of making spaces, it is making non-breaking spaces or something like that. At any rate, it messes up the formatting making words stick together on a new line when typing in tekst in a webform. When I switch keyboard layout (for example the Canadian Multilingual or French) I can delete the spaces made with the Danish keyboard and retype with the French or Canadian keyboard and everything is fine. So this problem is related to the spacebar of the Danish keyboard in 9.04. I did not have this problem in 8.10. Attached is a screenshot showing how a typed line with the Danish keyboard layout does not wrap over to line 2 but continues, and having a need for scroll bars. Maybe this is a problem not with the Danish layout, but when switching layouts. When setting the DAnish keyboard as default, I seem not to have this problem. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: keyboard -- Danish keyboard spacebar types non-breaking spaces https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/373472 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 373475] [NEW] FGLRX unusable with an ATI Mobility Card
Public bug reported: Hi all, I'm using a ATI Radeon Mobility 3650HD together with the fglrx driver and a Intel mainboard chipset. But this is sometimes unusable for me. If I work with an application I've got black bars on the screen. Or sometimes the system freeze after 3-4 hours. And the swichting between different windows will take a lot of time (with and without compiz) If I use Compiz, my system freeze latest after 1 hour. My system is lot of more slowler as without Compiz. Sometimes it's very funny because the Xserver will try to build 2 screens on one display. I must make a hardcore reset every time (Strg+Alt+F2 and sudo reboot not possible for me). I've token the new 2.8.602 from the ppa but there is no changes for me. If you need some more infos or log files let me know. [Bug 366222] Re: kubuntu jaunty hangs completely while using mouse
I thought I'd post here because, although there are other bug reports of freezes upon upgrading to Jaunty, this one sounds very similar to what I'm seeing. Basically, I ran KDE on Kubuntu Intrepid more or less without any freezes, installed Jaunty RC without any apparent freezes (but didn't use it very long before upgrading). I upgraded to Jaunty final about two days ago, and all of a sudden today the system started hanging. The first thing I noticed is that mouse clicks weren't responding and I started having problems with mouse focus (e.g., I would click on the foreground window and it would switch to a background window). The keyboard seemed to respond fine, however. At first it involved only a couple of windows, but eventually it happened to all of the windows and I couldn't do anything and had to reboot. Since, then, though, KDE is essentially unusable, with the same pattern ever since. It boots and loads KDE, and everything seems fine initially. The taskbar responds (e.g., it will minimize appropriately and appear with mouseover), but when I go to the KDE startmenu, applications won't open, and a terminal session manager plasmoid I have won't respond. I can open Firefox and Dolphin, but eventually I start having the same mouse problems with those applications, and the taskbar won't respond anymore. I can get into a shell with CTRL+ALT+F1 as described above, but that's about it. I've tried apt-get upgrade and everything seems upgradable. The mouse is a USB mouse with Intel USB interface on the mobo. There's been a bunch of changes to -intel since your last comment - would you please test to see if this is still an issue in the released Jaunty with all updates, and if so, also test if the 2.7.0 driver resolves it: https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates/ If you can reproduce the issue even with all this, the next thing to do would be to collect register dumps before and after the issue. intel_reg_dumper in Intrepid and newer versions of Ubuntu can be used to get a register dump. It is provided by the -intel driver's debug package: sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg run twice, once for when you have a good working screen (with either -intel or -vesa, any resolution), and once in the broken case: intel_reg_dumper > regdump_good.txt intel_reg_dumper > regdump_broke.txt In the broken case, you may need to run it from the console or from an external ssh session. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Incomplete -- [i945GME] black screen when going full screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/292549 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 293041] Re: [i945] D945GCLF & Panasonic TV - X resolution too high resulting in black TV screen
Hi Neil, Have you had a chance to test this against the Jaunty release? It sounds like the issue is a monitor capabilities-detection issue rather than a bug in -intel itself (so I'm reassigning), however a newer version of that driver is available at this PPA: https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates/ Meanwhile, you can capture a dump of what X is parsing for EDID via this command (which requires X be running, but you can run it from a vt console): 'DISPLAY=:0 xrandr --verbose' - this info will be useful in case the monitor has to be quirked. Also run 'sudo ddcprobe > ddcprobe.txt' to get the DDC info, which may be what X is using instead of EDID. The output of 'lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.txt' could also be useful. Re: [Bug 303601] Re: REISUB is broken
How exactly are you able to verify that when you received the information from a website that undoubtedly modified the input it was given to be correctly represented internally, and then transmitted to be displayed on an unknown browser that operates on an unknown operating system? My suggestion is that a user types the xorg.conf information into xorg.conf manually. its only a few lines, and alleviates any issue with correct type settings. [Bug 309163] Re: Open File dialog fails with inexplicable "Please select a file to open" error
I have also encountered precisely this problem with Nedit in 8.10. What is particularly vexing is that the problem manifests in different ways in different contexts. Sometimes the Open dialog does seem to work correctly, sometimes it gets caught in the "Please select a file" loop, sometimes the dialog opens blank, with no files or directories listed so one can't even get to the selection action. Always, it seems to issue some sort of cryptic Motif (?) complaint about Class:XmTextField and "Character '\...' ... not supported font." When it has worked correctly, it has been on occasions when it was launched from a panel icon and not by command line in a terminal, though it does not ALWAYS work when launched from the panel. It does always (so far) allow selection of files from the "Open previous" dialog, however. With that, I have been able to limp along. Without a workaround that is functional consistently from from one machine boot-up to the next, from one usage context to the next, Nedit is really not very usable. Given that Nedit is an top-notch editor for people working with text files, and that it has been absolutely reliable on multiple architectures for many years in my experience, this bug in Ubuntu 8.10 is very disappointing. [Bug 279011] Re: [g45] virtual consoles not shown, Intel G45
I am new to launchpad; please forgive me if I'm not following the right protocol, but I think this is the best way for me to get some help. The nasty bit: I'm using the CentOS 5.3 distro. The good bit: you have found and fixed the exact bug I'm having w/Intel DG45ID mobo w/G45 and Samsung SyncMaster226BW. Virtual consoles don't work, ctrl-alt-F?, but then F& and it comes back. Get an initial 80x40 login then startx screen at boot; when I log out of X, get the dark screen "Not optimum mode..." but blind startx works. Does anyone know the CentOS/RHEL 5.3 package corresponding to xserver- xorg-video-intel? Or how I might take the info from here back to the CentOS folks? [Bug 202952] Re: Add native ZFS to Ubuntu
I got a taste of ZFS with Solaris and PC-BSD, and I must say, I can't get that taste out of my mouth! While I found PC-BSD, as a whole, to be relatively immature as a usable desktop OS (a great effort, though, not quite there yet), and OpenSolaris to be the same, only with surprising less ZFS capability using the native installer, the BEST thing about using both of these OSes was getting to try out ZFS. It is AWESOME! But, I guess htat's why this bug exists. So, I guess there are a few options, all of which will take a lot of time and effort. 1. Somehow make GPL and CDDL work together (not likely). 2. Create your own implementation of ZFS written under the GPLvX...This may have legal ramifications of its own, since maybe this would violate patents in the ZFS specification? 3. Create a similar, competing FS that can do all, most, or more of the COOL things ZFS can, but designed and created under a GPL friendly license. >From what I remember, there are some file systems currently in development or some level of release that have goals similar to ZFS, but without corporate support (like Sun backing ZFS). I doubt they will ever be ready before something better exists (maybe options 1 or 2). I could be wrong, though. So, it looks like a pretty "not so good" for this happening, but I support this "bug"(/feature) request, and I admire its similarity to bug #1 (If you don't know what that is, please look it up!) Also, what about the license compatibility of having NTFS drivers running on the linux kernel? Surely, if that can be accomplished, they can make a driver fore ZFS. And the point about NVidia drivers, surely their license is more restrictive than the CDDL. Just my thoughts in support of solving this bug ;-) Cheers, --mobrien118 -- Add native ZFS to Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202952 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 373456] [NEW] Missing gridengine MCA ras
Public bug reported: According to this FAQ http://www.open-mpi.org/faq/?category=building#build-rte-sge with version 1.3 the compatibility with gridengine is not built-in automatically, but must be requested, by passing the option --with-sge to the configure script. Given the modularity of openmpi, this should not be a problem. It can be achieved by changing the rules file: COMMON_CONFIG_PARAMS = \ $(CROSS)\ --prefix=/usr \ --mandir=\$${prefix}/share/man \ --infodir=\$${prefix}/share/info\ --sysconfdir=/etc/openmpi \ --libdir=\$${prefix}/lib/openmpi/lib\ --includedir=\$${prefix}/lib/openmpi/include\ --with-devel-headers \ --with-sge (I added the last line). [Bug 252079] Re: firefox locks up when trying to print, print page opens but is blank,
Sorry, I have to add some (new) information: I strongly believe that, at least in my case, the problem is due to not-accessible network printers. More precisely, if the dialog box tries to display information on a not-reachable printer, the program freezes for several seconds. This is true even if the dialog was already open and you click on such a printer. On the other hand, if the window opens with "print to file" as the default printer, the program is not blocked. However, after some testing, I encountered the same problem with other software: I tried Epiphany, Gedit and Geany. Other users affected by this issue can confirm this? It could be that your USB subsystem takes more than 25 seconds to come up, which would explain why it works for me and not for you. But I don't know. I did say it was a nasty hack. :-) Regards, Tim -- Tim Cutts GPG: 1024/D FC81E159 5BA6 8CD4 2C57 9824 6638 C066 16E2 F4F5 FC81 E159 -- [hardy] livecd: keyword "persistent" results in busybox and (initramfs) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219192 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

To work in xorg.conf however, the quotation marks need to be " [U+0022 (34)], which the above quotation marks aren't; cf.: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quotation_mark_glyphs -- REISUB is broken https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/303601 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
