[Bug 379521] [NEW] [karmic] Tray icons using the new KDE tray icon system are displayed smaller than they should be, causing them to be fuzzy

2009-05-22 Thread Michael Marley
Public bug reported:

Tray icons that use the new KDE 4.3 tray icon system are displayed about
1 pixel on each axis smaller than they should be, causing them to be
quite fuzzy, as demonstrated by the attached screenshot. The KMix and
KDEBluetooth icons are using the new system, the Klipper icon (which is
not fuzzy) is using the old system.

Another workaround that seems like The Right Way (tm):

Make cons.saver sgid tty.

I observed in the changelog in the source that a similiar move was done

that sgid tty is the ubuntuese version of that.

This is gnome-rdp 0.2.3-1ubuntu1 on jaunty 9.04

When you close an RDP session, it often throws an alert box with the

[Bug 379528] [NEW] Laptop lid responds only once on HP nx6310

2009-05-22 Thread martouf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.30-5-generic

Hello,

I have noticed that for quite some time since Hardy, the laptop lid
doesn't work anymore. It only responds once, with the screen locking and
disabling background light correctly. After that, it stops responding,
and the ACPI state of the lid doesn't change anymore, therefore making
this button useless.

I am using Ubuntu Karmic on my HP nx6310, Kernel 2.6.30-5-generic,
latest version of all packages.

This seems to be kernel related since compiling a custom kernel with "make
defconfig" solves the problem.
I sadly wasn't able to find the specific kernel option, maybe someone can help.

It may be a little security issue too, because some people may trust
Ubuntu locks the screen when closing the laptop, although it doesn't
because of the bug.

2009-05-22 Thread Cleber Santz
Danne,

[7.927288] scsi 5:0:0:0: CD-ROMZTE USB SCSI CD-ROM
2.31 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2
[7.948251] sr1: scsi-1 drive
[7.949049] sr 5:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM *sr1*

no meu caso o CD foi montando em *SR1* então após o boot basta executar
"eject /dev/sr1" e você poderá usar o modem normalmente.

Abraços,
Cleber Santz.

[Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices

2009-05-22 Thread btanoue
Greetings Everybody,

I recently found a new work-around that works for my system. I stumbled
on this by accident. I ran out of USB ports on my desktop box, and
purchased a CyberPower (Powered USB Hub) off Buy.com.

I then thought, I should try the powered USB drive that was giving me a
headache under Intrepid and Jaunty. Low and Behold, I was able to now
transfer 27 GB's with out a hiccup at USB 2.0 speeds. I was hitting
about 20+ MB/s write.

Here is the model number of the hub:
CP-H720P

I'm thinking its a cheap and easy solution while waiting for a bug fix
in the kernel.

Good Luck and YMMV

[Bug 379533] [NEW] curl-config --libs gives too many libraries

2009-05-22 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: curl

I'm packaging a library (libsword) which uses libcurl.

When I compile my package dpkg-shlibdeps gives me these
warnings that dependency on the following libraries (there are others but they
are irrelevant for this report) could be avoided:

libgcrypt.so.11
libtasn1.so.3
libidn.so.11
libldap_r-2.4.so.2
liblber-2.4.so.2
librt.so.1
libgnutls.so.26
libgssapi_krb5.so.2

I started investigating and found that upstream is using `curl-config --libs` to
figure out link flags. On my system it gives this:

$ curl-config --libs
-lcurl -lidn -llber -lldap -lrt -lgssapi_krb5 -lgssapi_krb5 -lz -lgnutls

(No clue why gssapi_krb5 appears twice anyhow...)

I thought that's a bit harsh if I want to link against curl I don't quite
understand why I have to recursively link against all that

So to double check I've looked at the pc file shipped with curl:

$ cat /usr/lib/pkgconfig/libcurl.pc | grep Libs
Libs: -L${libdir} -lcurl
Libs.private: -lidn -llber -lldap -lrt -lgssapi_krb5 -lgssapi_krb5 -lz -lgnutls

This got me puzzled. The output from curl-config matches the static-linking
instructions from .pc file.

So I went to look into the curl-config code to see if it is possible to get
output which matches the "Libs:" standza of the pc file (edited $cat
/usr/bin/curl-config):

--libs)

if test "Xyes" = "Xyes"; then
echo ${CURLLIBDIR}-lcurl -lidn -llber -lldap -lrt -lgssapi_krb5
-lgssapi_krb5 -lz -lgnutls
else
  echo ${CURLLIBDIR}-lcurl
fi
;;

--static-libs)
echo ${exec_prefix}/lib/libcurl.a -lidn -llber -lldap -lrt
-lgssapi_krb5 -lgssapi_krb5 -lz -lgnutls
;;

*)

The else condition is never executed so the output always has all those extra
libs.

So if upstream is using curl-config extra libraries are linked and
dpkg-shlibdeps yells at packagers.

If upstream is using libcurl.pc just -lcurl is linked and dpkg-shlibdeps is not
shouting.

IMHO this is a bug in curl-config. If it's not I'll try to figure out how to
switch upstream of my package to use pkg-config for curl.

[Bug 379534] [NEW] [karmic] Kmail hangs for about 3 seconds when deleting the last email in a category

2009-05-22 Thread Michael Marley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kmail

While using Kmail on Kubuntu Karmic, I have noticed that if I delete the
last email in a category (like the day received), causing that category
to disappear and the viewer to be switched to another one, Kmail hangs
for a few seconds before displaying the new message. This behavior did
not occur before KDE 4.3.

[Bug 379535] [NEW] Lack of performance with new Intel driver - Intel 945GM

2009-05-22 Thread martouf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Hello,

today there has been an update for the xserver-xorg-video-intel packet.
This caused my performance to break down immensely. I usually had about
800 fps at glxgears, now it's about 160 fps.

I am using Ubuntu Karmic with kernel 2.6.30-5-generic and the latest
updates together with an Intel 945GM graphic card.

1) I did some research on Google, and Firefox has its own widgets, and do not

2) Which did you do exactly (and what is the level of Dell technical support) ?

I think point (2) is the most critical. It could mean impossibility to

[Bug 377560] Re: [karmic] Digikam does not display anything in the main pane

2009-05-22 Thread PCC
I have a similar issue on karmic. Digikam claimed it could not load the
kio's but they were actually there.

klauncher said: Error loading 'kio_digikamdates'.
"
digikam(24012): couldn't create slave: "Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Error loading 'kio_digikamalbums'.

It happened only when I was going through kdm. If I didn't run kdm,
i.e. xinit and then digikam (or xinit, startkde and then digikam),
digikam had no issue in displaying the albums.

It looks like kdm may have caused an issue on klauncher/digikam,
probably a path, an environment.

I've not figured out what is wrong yet.

[Bug 379536] Re: unable to write data DVD

2009-05-22 Thread Lawrence H. Bulk
I have long disliked Brasero - and in Jaunty I like it even less. Have
you tried K3b?

My problem, reported in Bug #378481, is that I can't burn ANY DVDs with
my external burner; I never had this problem with Hardy or Intrepid. I
can READ DVDs from that external burner just fine and I can still burn
CDs with it so, obviously, this is some sort of "bug" in Jaunty
regarding blank DVDs. So far I have not received any comment or reply to
my bug report. I hope you get better results.

[Bug 289216] Re: [X1600] Dual-head flickers

2009-05-22 Thread Joel Aelwyn
I have been experiencing the same issue since switching to the radeon
driver recently (when I upgraded to Jaunty). Using a Thinkpad T60 w/
X1400 mobility chipset, the built-in screen, and an external LCD
monitor.

I get the flicker on both screens, always bounded around the cursor. The
upper-left of the flickering region appears to be at the upper-left
corner of the cursor, and the region never appears to extend
significantly beyond the cursor.

There appear to be rectangular 'regions' of the screen in which this
consistently happens, when it does happen; I have not been able to
determine if they are consistent between applications or between server
restarts. Putting the cursor anywhere in the region triggers the
behavior, but the exact pattern varies depending on where in the region
it falls.

The region I am testing with at the moment does *not* appear to shift
when the visual under it shifts (for example, scrolling the browser
window I'm typing in so that either bug text, blank page, or text entry
box is under the region). Rather, it stays the same place and size, and
the flicker pattern remains the same for any given spot in it. It *does*
appear that the exact shade of the flicker may depend on what color the
underlying visual is, however.

For the benefit of anyone looking for "ATI flicker" issues: this is
almost certainly not the same as bug #351423; neither switching to XAA
from EXA nor setting the "MigrationHeuristic" option to "greedy" appear
to make any noticeable difference in the behavior, and the symptoms are
not particularly similar.

Including Xorg.0.log, will include lspci output in the next comment.

[Bug 379538] Re: Brasero doesn't work. It is totally incapable of burning a CD.

2009-05-22 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 379542] [NEW] Gnome in Jaunty remaks keyboard keys

2009-05-22 Thread Remi Gauvin
Public bug reported:

When I launch gnome from a tightvncserver session (which is the default
when you launch vncserver on Ubuntu, or if I log in to a gnome session
via gdm with a -query localhost), once gnome has started, any key I
press on the client is re-mapped to a completely different key. This
only happens if I'm using tightvncserver. xvnc4server does not suffer
from this. I also have no problems starting other desktop environments
(like xface, for example.)

[Bug 379524] Re: Alert box says "Fooo!" when closing remote session

2009-05-22 Thread James P Michels III
Gnome-RDP, by design, captures standard and error output from rdesktop,
which is a command line RDP client that Gnome-RDP uses.

The "Fooo!" message is generated by rdesktop, not Gnome-RDP.

For this reason, I am marking this bug report invalid.

[Bug 363238] Re: [r100-rv200] very poor Xorg performance - XAA solves this

2009-05-22 Thread Chris
This bug affects me too!

How can I try the upstream solution? (Without compiling anything, that
is...)

Currently my Mobile 9000 (RV250) causes a CPU load of about 25% and very
sluggish behavior under 9.04 (8.10 was fine). But I can resize Konsole nearly
smoothly.
Forcing the system to XAA it's useable again - but not perferect: resizing
Konsole looks like giving me only 1 frame/second.

BTW: using EXA I also had DRI running (as far as I can tell).

Having a rotten graphics system is really bad for me, so please help me
to get an acceptable solution!

Re: Re: [Bug 378864] Re: automatic upgrade causes many system issues

2009-05-22 Thread delance
Don't forget to do a backup of your home directory before doing anything
(including sending the computer)!

I suppose you bought a preinstalled computer. If a partition is
dedicated to /home, you could try to install yourself the system,
avoiding to send and wait the computer back. The single problem is
partitionning to recover home directory (but if you have done a
backup...). You need to get Iso file image on internet and burn a CD.

[Bug 379546] [NEW] nvidia proprietary driver causes xorg failure on SLI systems

2009-05-22 Thread Julian Vergel de Dios
Public bug reported:

I am using Jaunty, with the 180.44-0ubuntu1 version of the nvidia-
glx-180 package.

I discovered that when activating the proprietary driver for nvidia on
my SLI system, that after restart gdm would not start and I was greeted
by the terminal. After further investigation I discovered that xorg was
spitting out an error similar to this:

(EE)No devices detected

fatal server error:
no screens found

After searching the internet for a few hours I discovered that the error
could be remedied by explicitly defining the Busid of the primary video
card in the Device section of xorg.conf. This is how my now working
xorg.conf looks:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Driver "nvidia"
Busid "PCI:5:0:0"
Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "1"
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "1"
Option "Coolbits" "1"
Option "TripleBuffer" "1"
Option "DamageEvents" "1"
Option "BackingStore" "1"
Option "InitialPixmapPlacement" "2"
EndSection

The only important line is the "Busid" line, this is what solved the
problem for me. I feel as though this should be automatically set up,
as it can be jarring for some users to think they are improving their
graphics to suddenly be greeted with a text only command line after
restart.

[Bug 368415] Re: Automatic login not working in ubuntu 9.04

2009-05-22 Thread Benwa
I have this problem too but don't know what is causing it. You can
disable the automatic login by booting rescue mode then dropping to a
root shell to edit /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom

change AutomaticLoginEnable=false

I still have this issue in Jaunty. The access pattern is:

30 seconds, 10 seconds,
30 seconds, 10 seconds,

So it is obviously not fixed.

[Bug 353080] Re: Netbeans IDE 6.5 don't autocomplete import statement

2009-05-22 Thread twak
Confirming this issue. Deleting the var/cache doesn't help. Cripples the
IDE.

Seems to happen with Sun's jvm and not the default openJDK. (openJDK
barfs up the font sizes)

Installing from the netbeans website (6.5.1) resolves the issue.

Upgrading from an earlier release install has never
worked well, a completely fresh install being better.
More specifically, I am aware of others encountering
problems upgrading from the 'flakey' 8.10 release.
