That may be difficult, since it is only during apt-get upgrades of
firefox that this bug appears.

[Bug 378930] Re: blkid hangs on /dev/.tmp-block-* devices

2009-05-22 Thread Olav Kolbu
The patched util-linux from Daniel Hahler in bug #377395 fixed the
problem for me. The kernel no longer uses 5 minutes to boot, and there
are no long running blkid processes anymore. The patches are only in his
private repository so far, so you need to add that to your sources to
install. Do remember to run the update-initramfs command after you've
upgraded util-linux from his repository though, otherwise you won't see
any change.

If more people are helped by his util-linux then perhaps this bug should
be marked as a duplicate.

[Bug 349312] Re: Evolution 2.26 does not support import of outlook .pst

2009-05-22 Thread Steve
If you're just now migrating from a Windows/Outlook environment, you
could always use Crossover Office from Codeweavers which enables you to
run Outlook 2003 directly under linux using a Wine compatibility layer.
I ran this for a while until I was able to move away from
Outlook/Exchange and found most of the time it ran quicker than Outlook
under Windows.

I know it's not the best or most linux native solution but until .pst
importing into Evolution or whatever is properly supported it's probably
the easiest way to go.

[Bug 306755] Re: SigmaTel STAC9205: Headphone Jack Not Working

2009-05-22 Thread Andrix
Hi guys!
I've made my headphones work :). I've found the solution in this thread:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6589810#post6589810

Download the script and run with the options "-di"

   sudo ./AlsaUpgrade-1.0.x-rev-1.17.sh -di

Then reboot, and everything works !!

Basically the script, download the last version of alsa (1.0.20) and then
compile it.

I can cofirm that this bug is solved with that version of alsa, and is working
in:
  Gateway T-1625
  Ubuntu 9.04 - 64 bit

Cheers and I hope this work for you! :)

P.S: I wondering why ubuntu not update the alsa version to 1.0.20 ?

[Bug 371151] Re: Cannot paste URL into canvas to show web page

2009-05-22 Thread Bruno Girin
Bevis,

I don't think it should be a config change. There is a lengthy
discussion on the subject here:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=135884

Also, note from the discussion above that the same behaviour is
available by middle-clicking on the site icon, just left of the address
bar, whether middlemouse.contentLoadURL is true or false.

What would make sense though would be to have it as a standard
preference options, as suggested in the thread above. It's already being
discussed in Bugzilla so may happen at some point. In the meantime, I'll
mark this bug as invalid.

It appears that there's no need to backport a new version of OpenSSH. As
you can see here: http://www.openssh.com/txt/cbc.adv you only need to
add this line:

Ciphers aes128-ctr,aes256-ctr,arcfour256,arcfour,aes128-cbc,aes256-cbc

to ssh_config and sshd_config and restart the daemon.
Also:
The severity is considered to be potentially HIGH due to the
32 bits of plaintext that can be recovered. However, the
likelihood of a successful attack is considered LOW.

[Bug 379423] Re: Dual screen not working with Ubuntu 9.04 and intel 4500 MHD (on HP 6730B laptop)

2009-05-22 Thread delance
For X-Window (which is the software between card graphic driver and widget like
GTK or Qt), the number of screens must not change. If screen is mirrored, you
have only one physical screen. Else you have two independant screens or or big
virtual screen mapped on two physical screens.
In the stone edge (aroung 1980), X-Window was conceived to use many screens,
but programmers get used to think on a single screen.
So you need to reboot X-Window and all software which use it.

I think problem lies more in Gnome or KDE, which save session data.

Can you explain me what exactly you means by "the external screen is not
refreshed" ?

[Bug 379428] [NEW] gnome-display-properties confirmation dialog mostly appears under the Display preferences window

2009-05-22 Thread Jan Nekvasil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

The timed confirmation dialog, which appears right after changing screen
resolution / display layout in gnome-display-properties, is mostly
placed under the the Display preferences window (sometimes even
completely covered by it). Given the importance of this dialog, which
demands user's promptly reaction, it should be set as "Always on top"
(or opened on top under all conditions at least).

How to reproduce: Plug an external monitor (best with different native
resolution) to your laptop, open Display preferences, set the laptop
display to "off" and the external display to "on", click "Apply". If
confirmation dialog appears correctly on top by accident, repeat the
steps above until it happens.

This bug affects gnome-control-center 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu3 (9.04 Jaunty).

[Bug 112631] Re: [apport] package slapd failed to install/upgrade:

2009-05-22 Thread Wouter van Heyst
I've also hit this on upgrade. It seems like the situation might be slightly
complex.
My ldap config does not use the slapd.conf method, but cn=config.

/etc/ldap/ldap.conf contains:

BASE dc=company, dc=com
URL ldap://localhost/

Running dpkg --configure gives:

sudo dpkg --configure slapd

Look at the .ldif mentioned there, it contains the following two entries:

dn: dc=nodomain
objectClass: top
objectClass: dcObject
objectClass: organization
o: nodomain
dc: nodomain
structuralObjectClass: organization

But _also_ sections like these with the correct dc=company,dc=com.

My wild guess is that /var/lib/dpkg/info/slapd.postinst is at fault,
specifically

set_defaults_for_unseen_entries() with it's:

DOMAIN=`hostname -d 2>/dev/null` || true
if [ -z "$DOMAIN" ]; then DOMAIN='nodomain'; fi

[Bug 379426] [NEW] OpenOffice Writer makes KDE apps unresponsive after copying

2009-05-22 Thread Victor Gijsbers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

On Ubuntu 9.04, Jaunty Jackalope, using the standard packages for
OpenOffice (v3.0.1) and Kile (v2.0.81), I have the following problem:
after copying text in OpenOffice Writer, and then returning to Kile,
Kile takes about 7 seconds to redraw itself (i.e., show anything more
than a white window) and become responsive. (But see below for greater
generality.)

Steps to reproduce:
* Open a document in Kile
* Open a document in OpenOffice Writer
* Switch between the two applications, and see that Kile behaves with the
expected near-instantaneous speed
* In OpenOffice Writer, select some text and copy it (press Ctrl+C, or
right-click and choose "copy")
* Switch to Kile
* Notice that you get to see an all-white window and have to wait for about 7
seconds before Kile is redrawn and does anything.

Generality:
* The same happens with Kate instead of Kile.
* The same happens with OpenOffice Presentation instead of OpenOffice Writer.
* Copying text from any other application (gedit, firefox, evince, ...) does
not lead to a slowdown in Kile or Kate.

Thus, it seems that copying in OpenOffice somehow adversely affects KDE-
apps, or at least that small subset of KDE-apps which I use. This ought
not to happen, and is very irritating when you are transforming an ODF-
file bit-by-bit into a LaTeX-file...

*This* bug is about freezes on i965 with EXA.

Extreme Compiz slowness ought to be a different bug, though I cannot

BTW have you tried disabling vsync in compiz and in driconf? That
helped a lot for me (using EXA; I had no extreme slowness in UXA by
which I suspect vsync is broken with UXA).

It's almost like a non-updating x window is filling the whole screen and
steeling all key strokes. Could you execute the x windows kill mode with
the mouse only and try killing whatever the top window is?

are not being passed through somehow. One thing to try next time would be
performing the key strokes to open a terminal and reboot the system . . .
Although the sleep button does not work, so probably this won't work
either. So it seems like x is freezing both input and output somehow . . .
But not the cursor . . . I find this very strange (and very frustrating--it
makes my computer unusable when it is freezing every few minutes).

Not that I know much about how X works but I'm guessing there are events
which are sent to each window telling it to update and those event signals
are not being sent anymore, hence they don't update when your mouse hovers
over them etc. As the mouse still works and X isn't using 100% CPU then it
appears there is something stopping the update event signals but that could
be many things... :(
Never the less, we've clearly identified a critical problem which seems to
be KDE related that is breaking X. As I've not seen this issue on Ubunutu
9.04 then I'de say its definatly a Kubuntu or KDE problem. I'm trying to
think what would have the power to stop applications from within X from
updating and I can only guess something pretty fundamental is happening, I
doubt its a user space program thats stopping X from asking the applications
to update :/

[Bug 376569] Re: 9.04 (Jaunty) Can't print to hp 5740

2009-05-22 Thread Pascal De Vuyst
Looks like your HP Deskjet 5740 is set up with the wrong driver: HP DeskJet
1600CM Foomatic/Postscript (recommended).
Has your printer been installed automatically?
Please try to manually install your printer using
System->Administration->Printing with the HP DeskJet 5740 hpijs driver, does it
print now?

[Bug 379423] [NEW] Dual screen not working with Ubuntu 9.04 and intel 4500 MHD (on HP 6730B laptop)

2009-05-22 Thread vpxavier
Public bug reported:

Hello,
I'm using an up-to-date Ubuntu 9.04 on a HP 6730B laptop, together with a HP
docking station.
The video card is a intel 4500 MHD.
When I plug a second screen (Acer AL2223W), it is well detected (brand and
model).

Mirrored screen is working well but if I want to work with an extended
display, I have to log out and log in (which is boring because Plug in
and out of my docking station many times a day) to have the new
configuration take into account but the main problem is that the
external screen is not refreshed.

If I move a window, I can see like if there were hundreds of windows...

I really want to leave Microsoft for Ubuntu but I NEED an external
screen...

Thank you very much for your help.

[Bug 280188] Re: libgtkada2-bin : trying to overwrite `/usr/bin/gdialog', which is also in package zenity

2009-05-22 Thread Philip Muskovac
Thanks for reminding me of the existance of this bug Trim ^^. I use a
self-compiled version for gtkada since then where i removed gdialog from the
build (At least I don't use it). I looked into what you suggested, but it seems
that gdialog_ada provides a very small subset of what zenity provides. So not
only the commands are different, the syntax is different as well. Looking at
gdialog_zenity it's a perl script that's supposed to convert something. I don't
know perl so that's all I found out. What I'm curious about is why gdialog_ada
was called gdialog2 back in hardy so libgtkada2-bin could be installed with
zenity without a problem.
Another thing I noticed Is that the zenity guys don't seem to have noticed that
this bug exists so I'll add a bug for zentiy here. If they can't come up with a
solution on their side they should at least add a conflict on libgtkada2-bin.

[Bug 270181] Re: meld crash on startup

2009-05-22 Thread motoplux
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 250525 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/250525

I had the same problem on jaunty too, both with the version present in
the official repo and the more recent getdeb package.

motop...@drake:~$ meld
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/meld", line 38, in
gettext.bindtextdomain("meld", paths.locale_dir())
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'locale_dir'

so I edited /usr/bin/meld and changed the first line from
#! /usr/bin/env python
to
#! /usr/bin/env python2.5

I think because my default python version is 2.6 and without being indicated,
the program use it, reporting the error.
I know this is not a fix, just a workaraound to use it again.

[Bug 379421] [NEW] Let groupadd create /home/group/ sgid directories

2009-05-22 Thread ceg
Public bug reported:

Let groupadd have the option to create /home/group/ sgid directories.

Sgid group directories are the means for users to easily collaborate on
local files with the user private group scheme used in debian/ubuntu.

Graphical tools can then adopt to this addgroup option.

Debian policy states: "Packages other than base-passwd must not modify
/etc/passwd, /etc/shadow, /etc/group or /etc/gshadow."

Note: now I am back to ubuntu, in Intrepid it didn't work (I had to set

works!!! and I am now waiting for Kubuntu to finish downloading (While

Re: [Bug 337351] Re: kubuntu 9.04 freezes all the time

2009-05-22 Thread Isaac Kriegman
The clock freezes too so it's not just x failing to ask programs to update .
. . Unless x has to ask the clock to update. It seems like screen updates
are not being passed through somehow.

On May 22, 2009 7:20 AM, "JonathanCasey"
wrote:

I liked your idea of trying SSH, I didn't think of that myself.
Its nice to know the computer isn't completly dead just the user interface /
display updating is messed up.

[Bug 379392] Re: abiword displays error message when opening file button pressed

2009-05-22 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 373251] Re: the site not corresponding the page "www.detran.df.gov.br"

2009-05-22 Thread Bruno Girin
OK, I tried to click on the "Emitir" button that's for year 2009 in the
"Licenciamento" table and indeed it goes back to the same page. What
should it do instead?

way to set and keep it set.

I have the freeze mentioned in this bug, but the image loaded properly
for me in firefox. Now it is black (bug in firefox?) but if I download
it I can see it. But different programs may use xlib in different ways,
so that means nothing.

[Bug 379415] [NEW] libvirtd becomes unresponsive on setvcpus

2009-05-22 Thread J. Tole
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 Server edition
0.6.1-0ubuntu5

When running windows xp pro as a VM on qemu/kvm via dual cpu intel E5540
and issuing a command the command `virsh setvcpus winxp1 1` on a dual
vcpu vm, I get the response "Connecting to uri: qemu:///system" which
seems to last indefinitely. My VM becomes unresponsive and and that same
message appears on all following virsh commands. Restarting /etc/init.d
/libvirt-bin doesn't change it.
