[Bug 362203] Re: Skype high CPU use on 9.04 using pulse (and audio recording/sending delay >5sec)

2009-06-10 Thread Sepero
I think I have somewhat of a solution.

I was able to get Skype to run perfectly fine, just as it did on Hardy. I set
all options to pulse audio, then ran the following commands:
sudo echo "deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ hardy restricted main
multiverse universe" >> /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get install libasound2-plugins=1.0.15-1ubuntu3
libasound2=1.0.15-3ubuntu4 libpulse0=0.9.10-1ubuntu1 -d
sudo dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/lib*

reboot

.
Unfortunately, this completely breaks every package manager on Ubuntu.
Fixing the package managers will undo the changes, and can be done with this
command:
sudo apt-get install -f

.
.
After returning to the normal Jaunty libraries, pulse appears to run perfectly
fine with multiple applications running at the same time (tested Skype,
Audacity, Flash plugin, Mplayer). The only problem I've noticed was that Pulse
Audio "test" does not work correctly under:
System>Preferences>Sound

It gives this error:
audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink
profile=chat: Failed to connect: Connection refused

[Bug 385540] [NEW] Brasero calculates wrong checksum after burn ISO to CD

2009-06-10 Thread MestreLion
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

After burning a CD from an ISO file, Brasero reports an error saying
checksum from ISO file and burned CD do not match. ("Some files may be
corrupted on the disc").

However, CD is fine and all files were burned correctly. I did a manual
verification using md5sum on both the ISO and on the burned CD, and they
DO match.

Steps to reproduce:
- In Nautilus, right-click an .ISO file (i used ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso)
and select "Write to Disc".
- Click "Burn"

After recording, it says "Some files may be corrupted on the disc".

Opening up the logfile, near the end theres the line that triggered the
error:

BraseroChecksumImage Setting new checksum (type = 2)
2602036235674bdd37d297dadd7547dd (66fa77789c7b8ff63130e5d5a272d67b
before)

Steps to Verify:
- Check the ISO hash: md5sum ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso
( it says 66fa77789c7b8ff63130e5d5a272d67b, same checksum as in Ubuntu
documentation https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuHashes )
- Check the CD hash: md5sum /media/cdrom (again,
66fa77789c7b8ff63130e5d5a272d67b)
- Create ISO from CD using Brasero, and then check md5sum:
66fa77789c7b8ff63130e5d5a272d67b

So Brasero, for some reason, is not calculating the burned CD checksum
correctly.

I tried with the same ISO twice, and then with another ISO (the one i am
attaching). The 3 discs were OK but in all Brasero reported this error.

PS: This is my 1st bug report, im new to Ubuntu, so I apologize theres
anything incorrect in the report format.

ProblemType: Bug

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04

[Bug 385388] Re: jpilot has locking problems over nfs4 and bind mount

2009-06-10 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
jpilot (if not configured with --with-flock) should use fcntl() instead
of flock(). I don't remember when this option was added.

Can you try to rebuild the Debian unstable version (1.6.2.4-1) and check the
problem is still present?
Or try to use strace(1) to know why the locking fails.

[Bug 352025] Re: Windows programs loading too slow into wine.

2009-06-10 Thread Kazade
Would it be reasonable to (give the option to) start the wineserver
process on login? I find it's only slow to start the first Wine app
after logging in because the wineserver process is starting. Perhaps
that option could be part of winecfg, something like a "Start Wine when
GNOME starts" checkbox. - Just a thought.

[Bug 349569] devkit-disks: Allowed ntfs-3g mount options

2009-06-10 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello devkitters,

In https://launchpad.net/bugs/349569 it was noted that devkit-disks
does not allow most of the ntfs-3g mount options. So far, ntfs-3g has
shipped a hal fdi as a workaround (attached) which allows those, but
obviously that doesn't work with dk-disks any more.

Is the intention that ./src/devkit-disks-device.c itself gets those
new options, hardcoded? It already expects ntfs-3g after all:

| /* this is assuming that ntfs-3g is used */
|
| static const char *ntfs_defaults[] = {"uid=",
| "gid=",
| "dmask=0077",
| NULL};
| static const char *ntfs_allow[] = {"umask=",
| "dmask=",
| "fmask=",
| NULL};
|

If it shouldn't be hardcoded, is there any plan to allow overrides?

Personally I think that ntfs-3g has been pretty much the only use case
here, so adding them to devkit-disks-device.c would be okay.

Thanks for comments,

Martin

[Bug 365440] Re: Chinese Characters Missing When Printing

2009-06-10 Thread Adrian
Thanks for your comments. After reading them and other "works for me"
comments, I decided to try upgrading to v3.1 using the instructions
here:

http://ubuntumanual.org/posts/175/upgrade-to-open-office-3-1-in-ubuntu-
jaunty-intrepid-hardy

However, I also patched my system at the same time, so I'm not sure
whether this was fixed in OpenOffice (most likely) or some other part of
the system.

Any idea when OpenOffice 3.1 will be included in Jaunty? This would
solve the bug for other users experiencing the same problem (the problem
is likely to be occurring in other non-Western character set scripts).

If any automated testing is used, then it would be a good idea to
include this in the testing suite.

2009-06-10 Thread Calabacin
I just tried to run destar on my Ubuntu Jaunty and I have a similar problem:
TypeError: import_module() takes at most 4 arguments (5 given)

Installed packages:
destar 0.2.2-5.2ubuntu1

I tried installing python 2.4 and changing the first line in
/usr/share/destar/python/destar.py from:
#!/usr/bin/env python

to
#!/usr/bin/env python2.4

But now I get a new error:

I guess this error came back after last packages' update ??

[Bug 348204] Re: [Jaunty] Intel wireless 3945ABG is unstable and disconnects frequently

2009-06-10 Thread Stancu Florin
I get it too...
I have Intel 3945ABG chip:
10:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan]
Network Connection (rev 02)

When I try to transfer large amounts of data with high speed (about a minute
with 2.5 MB/s rate), the connection drops... I get beacon loss messages on
dmesg:
[ 7909.278766] wlan0: beacon loss from AP f660c6b8 - sending probe request

After that, you have to reconnect.

The only solution I have found so far is to limit the bandwidth to 200 KB/s
(setting the router to B, getting away from the router), but you will have
limited speed.
I tried live CD, reinstalling, updates, backports, latest microcode, changing
router to no encryption/WEP/WPA2... problem still there.
Works on earlier Ubuntu versions (intreprid, hardy).

I have a Linksys WRT160N v2 router. I don't know if it depends on the
router, but I only noticed the problem when I bought it. Before, I had a
Dlink DI-524 and I was using jaunty for over a month without any
problems, but I can't verify it, a lightning killed it.

I hope the problem will be discovered and fixed soon, it is very
annoying...

[Bug 366185] Re: dpkg-reconfigure udev deletes udevadm

2009-06-10 Thread Stephan Hermann
Confirmed.

How to reproduce:

1. Install a clean jaunty system
2. apt-get dist-upgrade with new udev from updates
3. after that dpkg-reconfigure -a -f noninteractive
4. read something along the lines "no divertion of /sbin/udevadm, removed non"
5. check ls /sbin/udev* only udevd is still there.

Problem is inside the udev.postinst somewhere around enable_udev()

Read that as additional info :)

Regards,

\sh

[Bug 361772] Re: black squares appearing instead of some letters when printing

2009-06-10 Thread Liuk
After last upgrade of cups (1.3.9-17ubuntu3) to 1.3.9-17ubuntu3.1 of
yesterday, the problem of black squares is back again.

The upgrade replaced /usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftops and I lost the pdftops posted
by Till here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/foomatic-db-engine/+bug/361772/comments/55

Replacing the pdftops again all is fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

[Bug 314600] Re: fglrx versions newer than 8.543 cause system hang and panic

2009-06-10 Thread Liuk
Great Dominik! A BIG thank you! I was getting crazy about this, you
avoided me a downgrade to 8.10 :-)

Turning acpi-services=off it seems to work!

Ctrl-Alt-F1 switch to VC works
Suspend and resume works
Compiz works
VMware Workstation 3D acceleration works

I've only a message like this from the kernel:
[fglrx:fireglAsyncioIntEnableMsgHandler] *ERROR* interrupt source ff66 is
not supported on this hardware (return code = 1)

but for the moment it seems harmless

And, not less important, now my laptop is back to a normal temperature!
Look at this:

l...@spock:~$ acpi -t
 Battery 0: Full, 100%
 Thermal 0: ok, 16.0 degrees C
 Thermal 1: ok, 38.0 degrees C
 Thermal 2: ok, 46.0 degrees C
 Thermal 3: ok, 34.3 degrees C
 Thermal 4: ok, 40.0 degrees C
 Thermal 5: ok, 30.0 degrees C

Please note that after the upgrade to Jaunty with the radeonhd driver,
the Thermal 2 values was always between 56 and 62 degrees!!! and my
battery duration dropped down from 3 hours to less than 2 hours!

Thanks again.
HTH to others with the same issue.
Cheers,
Luca

[Bug 385551] [NEW] Jaunty -- Intel 82945G/GZ -- Screen full of vertical lines, cannot logon

2009-06-10 Thread ichudov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

This is my parents computer that they have 2000 miles away from me. THey
were on Hardy and everything worked. I upgraded them to Intrepid and
rebooted, then upgraded to Jaunty. After that, they report that their
screen is full of vertical lines and they cannot work.

This seems to be an Intel driver issue:

bunny:root:/var/log ###lsmod|grep i9
i915 65540 2
drm96296 3 i915

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 02)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics
Controller (rev 02)

This is a high priority issue to me, as I am deeply embarrassed by such
poor performance on what seems to be a very mainstream PC (3 year old
Dell). So if you have any downgrade suggestion for the meantime, let me
know, I feel very badly about this.

I am now going to attach a few things.

2009-06-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 26662 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/26662

the example is not a zip format but a gzip one, rename it .gz and that
will work correctly

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 26662
using the filename to get the mimetype is not always correct

[Bug 385043] Re: Totem can't play DVDs

2009-06-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
there is no stacktrace there, some notes:
- you need to install libgtk2.0-0-dbg
- run gdb totem
(gdb) break gdk_x_error
(gdb) run --sync
... get the crash
(gdb) bt full

and then copy the stacktrace there

[Bug 384579] Re: Linux thinks there’s a fl oppy drive when there’s not. Probing slows down bootup by almost a minute.

2009-06-10 Thread Bruce Miller
I am not experiencing a one-minute delay in boot-up, but am seeing dmesg
being filled with seeks for a non-existent floppy drive:

[92497.412378] end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
[92509.608803] end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
[92521.843198] end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0

There is no floppy drive on this computer.
