So it looks like it has been fixed ;-)

[Bug 386654] [NEW] Partitioner freezing at 52%, only in Czech version

2009-06-13 Thread BlackSmith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-pack-cs

VirtualBoxu.
root a swap.

Martin Korbel

Bohužel nejsem žádný převratný angličtinář, takže jen stručně.

[Bug 386507] Re: gmplayer fails to start because of skin trouble

2009-06-13 Thread Reinhard Tartler
okay, again 2 issues here. The Error window is because fontconfig
support was not enabled. fontconfig enables mplayer to detect the
default system font automatically. It is not enabled by default, users
need to enable it with the commandline switch -fontconfig. We can fix
the desktop file to call mplayer with -fontconfig by default. This
should be tracked seperately.

the original report mentioned in the bug description is a problem in the
interaction between the mplayer-skins and the mplayer-skin-blue package.
The mplayer-skin-blue manages the //usr/share/mplayer/skins/default
symlink via update-alternatives, while mplayer-skins does fiddle with
the symlink manually. This is plain wrong of course.

I'd suggest to just merge the mplayer-skins package with the mplayer-
skin-blue one.

[Bug 386657] [NEW] Delete key works strangely in synaptic

2009-06-13 Thread Simon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

When an installed package is selected from the package list, and the
user presses the delete key, the package is marked for deletion. The
problem is when there is text in the Quick Search textbox and the user
goes to delete some/all of the text by using the delete key. Instead of
deleting the text, the package is still marked for deletion. This is not
an expected action when the textbox has the input focus, and should be
fixed.

I suggest that the delete key should only mark a package for deletion
when the package list has the input focus.

[Bug 318942] Re: no sound from speakers on HP Mini 1000 (hda-intel, IDT 92HD75B2X5)

2009-06-13 Thread llimaa
@John Montgomery:

That's the problem... an operating system that is mostly maintained by a
community that consists largely of volunteers. Canonical have to employ
an Armada of developers, else this Distro will never get out of this
sittuation. Today its the sound, tomorrow the graphic card, etc...

By Userfriendly I mean an official and supported way to fix it. Like apt-get
update and then upgrade.
A solution easy enough for the grandpa.

It's not Andys fault don't get me wrong but its sad that
linux/Ubuntu/etc. depends of Robin Hoods like him.

Arnaud Soyez solution is not a solution, it is a workaround. I want to
startup my OS with the volume settings i left when turned the system
off. An official solution that does not break stuff on the next upgrade,
which this one would probably do.

[Bug 386658] [NEW] Ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron on Dell inspiron 531, resume after suspend does not work

2009-06-13 Thread Vinux
Public bug reported:

PC : DELL inspiron 531
OS : Ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron
Kernel : 2.6.24-24-generic

Most of the features seem to work but the resume after suspend function does
not. Every time after the PC is suspended a reboot is required to bring back
the PC as it does not resume when the power button is pressed. The screen
remains black and no response to key board or mouse events. But the hard disk
seems to make some noise but thats it.
Similar bug reports exists but not for DELL 531 desktops hence a new bug report.
Kindly let me know what kind information is required for debugging this issue.

[Bug 345076] Re: Kubuntu 9.04 alpha6 panel corruption

2009-06-13 Thread RK
Well, fact is that my corruptions using an nvidia card definately do not
come from a driver bug in the ATI driver.

@dotancohen: I guess I can't convinve you to upgrade to KDE4.3B2 and
check with precisely the same set of widgets as I have?

@Jonathan Thomas: Don't you think it would be more productive if you
could help locate the bug, instead of just closing it? Even if that ends

[Bug 124387] Re: update manager lock file not always removed

2009-06-13 Thread Dave-B
I've had this maybe 5 times as well, I'll need to get back to you about
the exact text of the message, but here's what happened last time:

1. Update manager announced that there are updates.
2. I had a quick look at what they are, then hit Install updates.
3. I entered my password in the gksu dialog that appears.
4. A message is shown saying that it couldn't get
'/var/cache/apt/archives/lock', (it might also say there's another other
package manager running, but I'm not 100% certain about that).
5. I opened a terminal and ls/ greped for the file, seeing that it belongs to
root:root, and has date of approx 5 days ago.
6. I deleted the lock and re-ran update manager.
7. Update manager install some updates (possibly just security updates), then
has the same problem (i.e. GOTO 5, except for the date).
8. Updates were installed.
9. Checking for the lock file again after all updates were installed (and
update-manager appear to exit ok), the lock was back.

Actually, with the KDE 4.2.4 PPA enabled the corruption went away. Now
that I've moved to KDE 4.3b2 the corruption has not returned. I think

[Bug 386654] Re: Partman freezing at 52%, only in Czech version

2009-06-13 Thread Kamil Páral
Bug translated to english, reassigning to ubiquity package.

** Summary changed:

- Partitioner freezing at 52%, only in Czech version
+ Partman freezing at 52%, only in Czech version

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: language-pack-cs
+ Hello,

- Zdravím.
+ I have problem with partman program when installing Ubuntu. It freezes
+ at 52%, but only in Czech version. It is server edition (9.04, 8.10). I
+ have installed several server PC (Dell 4400, 2x 6650) and many ordinary
+ PCs, the error occurs even in installation in VirtualBox. In installator
+ I have always chosen Czech language and USA keyboard layout. In the
+ dialog of disk partitioning I have chosen Automatic with LVM or
+ Custom. I have created several partitions, but very often all of the
+ sudden a disk partitioner started to load and froze on 52%. I did not
+ manage to find out when precisely it starts, it happened at different
+ events (adding new partition, setting partition properties, ...). It did
+ not help to kill the partitioner, it always started again. PC restart
+ did not help, I always ended on 52%. In the end I was forced to skip
+ disk partitioning and have a standard root and swap partition.

- VirtualBoxu.
- root a swap.
+ When I chose english language in the installer everything went well. The
+ problem is really only when selecting Czech (and maybe other non-
+ english) language.

  Martin Korbel

- Bohužel nejsem žádný převratný angličtinář, takže jen stručně.

[Bug 386657] Re: Delete key works strangely in synaptic

2009-06-13 Thread Matt Burnett
Thank you for submitting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I have
been able to confirm that this is in fact the behavior that is being exhibited.
Steps to reproduce are as follows:
1. Open synaptic
2. Perform a search for a package
3. Click on package and mark it for installation or click on a package that is
already installed
4. Move focus back to search input box and hit the delete key to try to delete
text.

At this point it will mark whatever package you last clicked on for
removal. This seems to be the caveat though is that you have to have
interacted with a package in the list in some way. If you simply just
do a search then delete text it behaves normally. Have tested it with
the amd64 and the i386 versions and both behave the same way.

I also meant to say that this is on 9.04.

I just ran `gksu synaptic` to install a program (fslint), which
installed, and synaptic closed with no messages in the terminal, which
is good. Unfortunately, the lock file has returned.

From this we can say that it's a problem for both update-manager and
synaptic - probably via some shared backend.

I'll update with exact message details when I next have updates to
install.

And I've forgot to mention: this happens on boot every time (nothing
special is installed or used, ubuntu 9.04 64 bit server edition with std
install, ubuntu-minimal and ubuntu-standard meta packages are
installed), though it seems there is no major affect on the system later
(though I am not using only one ethernet cards from the five, so maybe
there will be problems later if this problem has something with the NICs
at all). Thanks!
