[Bug 388291] [NEW] Computer hangs during reboot/halt
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager This bug is probably related to #274995 (which was closed on 2008-12-03), but I'm opening a new one following Michael Rooney's kind advice. I'm running a default install of Xubuntu 9.0.4 on a Sony Vaio VGN-G2. Problem: the system hangs during reboot or halt if there is an active wireless connection. During reboot, I get the following message * Stopping anac(h)ronistic cron anacron acpid: exiting nm-system-settings:SCPlugin-Ifupdown: devices removed (udi: /or/freedesktop/Hal/devices/net_00_1a_80_d6_06_5a) nm-system-settings:SCPlugin-Ifupdown: devices removed (udi: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/net_00_1f_3c_85_77_4a) nm-dispatcher.action: Caught signal 15, shutting down... The first line is sometimes different, but I can't seem to get the alternative message at the moment. The system makes no further progress. For halt, the message is just "acpid: exiting\n\n", or sometimes it's just blank. The system is not completely frozen; the Enter key advances the cursor and the console is blanked after inactivity (and lights up again in response to a keystroke). Ctrl+Alt+Delete seems to be registering---it doesn't cause the system to make progress but after repeatedly pressing the combination, I see "init: control-alt-delete respawning too fast, stopped". The reproducibility is not 100% although it's fairly high, well over 50% (subjectively; I didn't acutally count). The problem seems to go away if I link /etc/init.d/NetworkManager from rc0.d and rc6.d. (But please bare in mind this is a nondeterministic bug.) I used the prefix K88 immitating Debian, but perhaps a different number is more appropriate for Ubuntu. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Computer hangs during reboot/halt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/388291 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 379393] Re: add checkbox submission reference
Abel writes: 8< Finally, Launchpad is able to link bugs and hardware profiles via the LP webservice API. If bug is a launchpadlib object representing a bug, and if hwsubmission is the launchpadlib representation of a hardware report in Launchpad, call bug.linkHWSubmission(hwsubmission) to link the bag und the hardware report. You can create the hwsubmission object by calling hwsubmission = lp.load('https://api.edge.launchpad.net/beta/+hwdb/+submission/%s' % submission_key) where submission_key is the unique ID provided by checkbox in the field "field.submission_key" when it uploads the hardware report via https://launchpad.net/+hwdb/+submit . So, apport can now create these links between bugs and and hardware reports -- if it knows the submission_key. [Bug 388290] [NEW] Resume from suspend causes wireless card to stop working
Public bug reported: I am running jaunty on a compaq presario v2000 laptop. The kernel which comes with jaunty works fine with suspend/resume. Since this laptop has an intel card, and because of issues with intel drivers shipped with jaunty, I followed this(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1130582) advise and updated xorg server and installed 2.6.30 kernel (http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.30/). To try: Open Home Folder, Make new directory "Test" Open directory "Test" Press 'Up' Delete "Test" directory Click "Test" button on location bar Expected behaviour: Ideally: "Test" should be removed from the bar as soon as it is deleted Compromise: "Test" should be removed after error given when "Test" clicked on the bar Actual behaviour: "Test" remains on the location bar and "Please check the spelling and try again." error is given every time "Test" is clicked. Also, even though "Test" has not been opened, the "Test" button is pressed along with the button of the current directory, even if the current directory is two levels bellow (e.g. "home" and "Test" are both pressed down if "Test" is clicked after going up to "home" (i.e. /home/) Nautilus: 1:2.24.1-0ubuntu2 Ubuntu : 8.10 (Intrepid) ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Button-based location bar does not update after folder deleted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/388286 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 22007] Re: no 'Settings' button in gnome-screensaver
But *WHY* do we have to run around in rings to do something that should be simple, just not to miff inoperative upstream maintenance. Let's DIVERGE if we want something good, while upstrem pushes something bad. Really, the screensaver is not important. Fine, then, let's fix it too, because this Ubuntu Papercuts program is for fixing unimportant things that are badly done and are pebbles in the sandal on the road to a totally smooth user experience. And it should be a very simple fix, it is not as we're trying to reimplement the window manager (which has been done for the Netbook Release). Leave the screensaver config program alone, but create an additional > program that edits a particular .desktop file. [Bug 387957] Re: Improve Save As Dialog Box (focus issues)
** Tags removed: nautilus ** Description changed: - Binary package hint: nautilus - The save dialog box has the irritating habit of not focusing on the file name area once I have browsed to the location where I would like to save my document. This is done better in Windows. There are two main scenarios when saving a document where this behaviour annoys: Scanario 1 - Browsing to save location by double-clicking: 1. File -> Save As (to bring up the "Save" dialog box). 2. Double click on the folder in which you would like to save the document. 3. Notice that the focus is now in the folder list area, not on the file name area. 4. I now have to click in the file name area to be able to name my document. In Windows, the focus is returned immediately to the file name box once a folder is double clicked, so the name can be typed and the document saved in one step. Scenario 2 - Browsing save location using the keyboard (find as you type): 1. File -> Save As (to bring up the "Save" dialog box). 2. Click on the folder area so that folder names can be typed to find them. Hit enter to enter desired folder. 3. Within the folder, step 2 can be repeated for subfolders indefinitely. 4. Once the desired location has been reached, the user must use the mouse click in the file name area to name the file before saving. In Windows, when using find as you type, although focus is retained by the folder area when entering a lower folder level (so that you can browse to another level using the keyboard if desired), jumping to the file name box is simply a matter of pressing tab ONCE. In Ubuntu, I have to reverse tab (shift-tab) around 10 times to get back to the file name box at the top of the screen, or use the mouse - most annoying. Solutions (copy the Windows behaviour): 1. If a folder is double clicked with the mouse, the focus should jump back to the file name box. 2. If a folder is entered into by pressing enter (on the keyboard), focus should remain in the folder area, but the file name box should only be a single tab away. I understand that solution 2 is problematic in that tabbing would ordinarily jump to the next element (usually the "file type" dropdown), not back to the top of the screen. -- Improve Save As Dialog Box (focus issues) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/387957 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 198786] Re: hotkeys multimedia does no work in acer laptop 3690
Oscar, I'm closing this bug as invalid because your original bug report does not actually describe what problems you are having with the keys. If there are keys that aren't working for you in Ubuntu 9.04 or karmic, please detail which keys they are, and follow the directions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting to help us identify the problem with them. mac_v, there is no indication that the problem you're having is at all related to Oscar's report; and furthermore, your results show that the hotkeys themselves *are* functional, but if you're seeing the keys in the xev output you apparently aren't running gnome-settings-daemon, which is supposed to intercept these keypresses and translate them for use by rhythmbox and other programs. If you do have gnome-settings- daemon running, then I'm not sure where the problem lies - it's probably a GNOME configuration issue, and it's definitely /not/ a bug in the hotkey-setup package and probably not related to the original problem reported here. ** Changed in: hotkey-setup (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- hotkeys multimedia does no work in acer laptop 3690 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198786 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 386858] Re: Dell Vostro 1720 internal microphone doesn't work
I've tried dell, 3stack, 5stack, and dell-3stack. Sound works fine with all of them, but I also noticed that the codec is "IDT ID 76d5", which doesn't exist in the documentation, so I'm guessing that they're ignored. [Bug 274995] Re: MASTER storing ALSA mixer element values during shutdown hangs nondeterministically due to internal alsa-plugins pulse check
I'm reopening this bug because I'm running into this problem despite the fix dated 2008-12-03. Please let me know if opening a new one is more appropriate. I'm using the amd64 version of Xubuntu 9.0.4 (default install) on a Sony Vaio VGN-G2. The system stalls during reboot/halt. For reboot, it shows the following error message: nm-dispatcher.action: Caught signal 15, shutting down... acpid: exiting nm-system-settings: SCPlugin-Ifupdown: devices removed (udi: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/net_00_1a_80_d6_06_5a) nm-system-settings: SCPlugin-Ifupdown: devices removed (udi: /oorg/freedesktop/Hal/devices/net_00_1f_3c_85_77_4a) For halt, the message is just "acpi: exiting\n\n". The system is still responsive in the sense that the Enter key advances the cursor, and the laptop blanks the screen after inactivity. The problem goes away if I add the link K88NetworkManager to rc0.d and rc6.d. I got the number 88 from Debian's network-manager package. ** Changed in: network-manager Status: Invalid => New -- MASTER storing ALSA mixer element values during shutdown hangs nondeterministically due to internal alsa-plugins pulse check https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274995 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 339891] Re: [Jaunty] wireless rt2860 not connecting to WPA

[Bug 388273] [NEW] Conflated keypresses after hibernate
Public bug reported: After my system wakes up from hibernation, the keyboard behaves strangely: if I press either "q" or "w," I get both: "qw". [Bug 290471] Re: Status icon in notification area not required when using FUSA applet
@Robert Ancell, not neccessarily - like in pidgin, when pressing the close butten, it disappears to the indicator-applet sub-icon. If you press the icon, it reappears. [Bug 341943] Re: Deprecated module sets with python 2.6
At the time of this writing, the Ubuntu package is still out of date, so it's still broken. To work around this, install MySQLdb using easy_install. Here is what I did: apt-get remove python-mysqldb # Remove outdated version apt-get install python-setuptools # This package has easy_install, the tool you'll use to reinstall MySQLdb ### This might fail if you don't have some essentials. See below. easy_install MySQL-python ### If you got an error about missing mysql_config, you'll need to install that. It's in libmysqlclient-dev sudo aptitude search libmysqlclient # See what version of you are using. Assuming its 15, then do... apt-get install libmysqlclient15-dev # Building MySQLdb will require mysql_config, in this package. apt-get install python-dev # It'll also need Python.h and some other stuff in here ### If you have a really fresh system, you'll need all the regular build tools. Just for kicks, load up on these: apt-get install binutils-doc gcc-multilib make manpages-dev autoconf automake1.9 libtool # Now, this BETTER work easy_install MySQL-python -- Deprecated module sets with python 2.6 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/341943 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
