The initial bug report in #49567 (the activity up to and including 2008) is

the behavior in 9.04.
The second bug report in #49567 (the activity from 2009) is a duplicate of

[Bug 25632] Re: SPDIF won't play PCM after playing AC3

2009-06-17 Thread Phil
Peter,

According to Hebert, it appears it was fixed. It seems like this bug
was something of a side effect of a larger problem of how sound was
handled in the first place. Considering Karmic is still really early in
its development, I'd still give it a while before you go trying it out
on your main/production system. Hopefully it doesn't regress back to
the way it is in Jaunty now before release. Here's hoping that doesn't
happen.

But if it's just the Pulseaudio and Alsa packages, you could just try
updating those packages and see what your results are. If this problem
is on a more important machine, that might be the safer route so you can
still roll back your changes. If anyone tries that out, let us know the
results.

[Bug 388293] Re: evince crashed on double-click (to select word)

2009-06-17 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-
file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where
_my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 333883] Re: gnome-power-manager crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast()

2009-06-17 Thread Scott Howard
Thank you for the report and helping make Ubuntu better. Does this bug
appear in Jaunty?

For clarity, does this bug trigger when the warning notification for low (~10%)
batter would occur? And this bug does not trigger if you disable the sound
notification?
Thanks in advance.

[Bug 198724] Re: [amd64] partimage not synced

2009-06-17 Thread Morten Kjeldgaard
I can confirm that partimage compiles under amd64.

However, it does not seem to work correctly for me. It gets stuck in
dialogue that asks the user if the /dev/dm inode should be created. You
can select Yes or No it doesn't matter; partimage just keeps re-
displaying the dialogue.

[Bug 388486] [NEW] Problems with autoload images

Hi,

[Bug 388484] [NEW] Notifications, calendar, similar plasmoids crash when moved

2009-06-17 Thread benchang
Public bug reported:

Apologies if this is a duplicate - I'm almost sure it is, but couldn't
find it specifically in the database.

Using Kubuntu 9.04 x86-64. I'm having trouble with I guess what you'd
call temporary plasmoids like Notifications and the calendar that pops
up when you click on the clock.

If I try to move the plasmoid, it often crashes. Not all the time, but
very regularly. Other plasmoids like file view, etc. all work
perfectly.

Additionally, when moving, these ones (notification, calendar...) exhibit
update artifacts:
- during drag and drop, the hefty toolbar on the side of the plasmoid is left
behind until the drop. (If you drag by grabbing that toolbar, it's fine).
- When dropping, the plasmoid shrink-collapses, and then suddenly pops back
into existence
- The drop doesn't take into account cursor offset into the dragging area. If
I click in the middle of the plasmoid title bar, drag, and drop, the plasmoid
suddenly shifts to the right, placing it such that the upper left corner of the
plasmoid is now under the cursor instead of the grab point. This is also only
when dragging using the title bar or other grabbable area of the plasmoid,
dragging using the toolbar is fine.

Personally I'm not too fond of having notifications turn into whole
plasmoids, it feels heavy and excessive and out of place with the
elegant design of the rest of the KDE desktop, but perhaps that's an
upstream decision? ;)

I bet this is all fixed in 4.3.

To see if this can be fixed in previous versions of Ubuntu, please do

That's all I can suggest really, thats the procedure to get this into an

  * add missing binary-indep in debian/rules (Closes: #395741)
  * new version is modified to build on any architecture
- fixed the powerpc build problem (Closes: #406736)

[Bug 382703] Re: Home Folder has 3 different names

2009-06-17 Thread Baldur
It's ridiculous that people are complaining over how the word Home
doesn't sound right when translated into other languages.

Home sounds perfectly all right in English, that's a good reason for
calling it Home in the English version- that in no way forces
translators to make exact translations of home into their respective
languages!

In Icelandic Heimamappa (Home folder) would sound better so I would
personally stick to that translation even though the English string
would be changed to 'Donkey'- get my point? The whole point of being a
good translator is NOT to translate verbatim but to translate so it the
translations fits and sounds good in the other language.

ethernet. I made a clean install of Ubuntu 9.04 server (32 bits version)
and configured samba. When trying to transfer large files (in the
gigabytes range) to the server (from my main desktop that is running
9.04 desktop X64 and also uses gigabit ethernet), I come across the
problem described above. The transfer stalls after a while (it starts
with ~21 MB/sec rates, then stops after a few hundred MB).

Here is what I found while poking around:
- If I ping (from the server side) my desktop, the network connection comes
back after 15 or 20 seconds of unreachable host. It seems that Not sure if it
really helps establish the network connection again.
- I noticed that a lot of memory is used while transferring large files (and is
apparently not released after the network stalls). My server box has 512MB.
Before starting a transfer I have about 130 MB of free RAM if I remember
correctly, but after starting a large file transfer this goes down to about
5MB! Even worst I see the same problem of my desktop box. This box has 8GB of
RAM. I rarely go above 2GB (including cache), but this goes up to about 95% of
memory used (84% towards cache). The cache is not freed after the transfer is
stopped.
- The problem seems to occur when copying a file from the server to the client.
I the other direction (client to server), things seem to work fine (don't take
my word on that, I need to confirm this behaviour)

Something is going really wrong here! I had no problem with the previous
server running at 100Mbps. It seems that Linux has some serious issues
with fast transfers of huge files. Very very frustrating. It simply
render my server useless for backup purposes!

[Bug 384861] Re: Broadcom NetXtreme II (BCM5708) not detected by installer [karmic]

2009-06-17 Thread Pablo Marchant
After an updrage from Jaunty to karmic, my broadcom BCM4311 is not seen
anymore. Is this due to the same issue??

Im using ndiswrapper right now, and I was wondering if this fix would
allow me to use the regular drivers for my wireless. Is it already on
the repositories?

[Bug 338489] Re: AllowDeactivateGrabs is broken

2009-06-17 Thread maq
I'm using this workaround on fedora9:
- the content of file /etc/acpi/actions/power.sh I modified to:

#!/bin/sh
/usr/bin/chvt 1

- so after X stops responding I just press POWER button on desktop
machine and it will switch me to working terminal. Then I'm able to stop
some process (e.g. when I'm using NetBeans, X will stop responding
during debugging, I kill java process), then press alt+F7 and X will be
responding again :)
