[Bug 389345] [NEW] Wrong size for icons when high-res are available

2009-06-18 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: netbook-launcher

We (the GNOME art team) are drawing and testing gnome-icon-theme
providing high-res icons (i.e. icons at 256x256 pixel too).

As you can see in attached screenshot, it seems that netbook-launcher
picks up the "wrong" size for icons: places on right side, in fact are
using icons at 256x256 scaled down, while more appropriate 32x32 pixels
icons are available too. The same occurs in middle and left pane of
netbook-launcher: see the screensaver (label "Salvaschermo") icon in
middle pane, and admin icon (label "Amministrazione") il left pane.

So, I think could be good fix the icon size lookup before high-res icons
become common. May I suggest to use 48x48 pixels for middle pane and
32x32 pixels for left and right pane?

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
Package: netbook-launcher 1.6.20-0ubuntu2
ProcEnviron:
 LANG=it_IT.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash

[Bug 389338] [NEW] crashing processes dont let go of usb device

2009-06-18 Thread yoshi
Public bug reported:

this is related to a bug i reported a while back here. #372453 crashing
processes dont let go of webcam. i have since found out the trouble
apparently goes deeper.

this time i was using a joystick in dosbox every thing goes well until
dosbox crashes and i have to manually kill it. the window goes away and
all seems well until i try to reload dosbox. which decides to not want
to. fee;ling suspcisiously like my usb webcam problem i run jscalibrator
to test if the joystick will give any input no go. i have since tried
cat /dev/input/js0 and jstest none of them give any input. as with the
webcam problem the module refuses to modprobe -r the process is listed
as defunct and nothing else can use the usb device.

to reproduce the bug, thus far found in only usb webcam and joysticks but
i suspect it is any non flashdisk usb device.

!) plug in your usb webcam, joystick whathave you
2) run a programme which uses such a device
3) cause programme to crash, if it doesnt crash of it's own accord
4) try and use the same usb device with another programme, or run the previous
programme again

Thank Odin, and thank you. After switching the order of ids in that

[Bug 389333] [NEW] [Mobility Radeon HD 3450][EEE 1000HV] fglrx does not work (EE Invalid Bios Signature)

2009-06-18 Thread Plinius
Public bug reported:

hello there

i'm not sure if it is correct to file this issue, because i have found similiar
bugs in launchpad:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/355495
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usplash/+bug/346028

but still, i get a different error message...

but everything in order:
i own an EEE 1000HV, similar built to the 1000HE, but with a dedicated Mobility
Radeon HD 3450
i installed 9.04 with a live cd and updated the system
after that i went to the hardwaremanager and it showed me one possible
proprietary driver for my graphics card
i installed it, rebootet - and crashed! the only thing i got to see was at
first a "flashing" prompt shell which soon after changed into a green line on
top of the display...or sometimes into a double blurred green ubuntu logo

when i look into the Xorg.0.log (attached) then i find the Error "EE Invalid
Bios Signature"
normally this would meen that my graphics card is not supported, right? but i
know people using e.g. a Dell Studio 1537 with exact the same card and they
can use the fglrx (or even launchpad users:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/358064)

i've tried to install the fglrx by:
hardware manager
synaptic
shell prompt
envyng
ati catalyst 9.5 + 9.6 (installer as well as manually with craeting packages)

is it a ubuntu issue? or an amd issue? or is it a netbook issue? or even
a OEM issue?

if you need any further logs or anything, please tell me
cheers

[Bug 103306] Re: compiz eats mouse clicks at the border of the screen

2009-06-18 Thread The Fiddler
After more testing, it seems that the top panel works correctly. On the
other hand, if you move the top panel out of the way (say, place it on
the left) and maximize a window, the top row of the screen will only
accept left clicks. Right- and middle-clicks are eaten and the scroll
wheel works as if it was over the desktop.

Confusing behavior, but probably not a paper cut (since it doesn't
appear in the default configuration).

[Bug 342096] Re: SD Card containing /home corrupted on resume

2009-06-18 Thread Jose Bernardo
Unfortunately, adding this options is no longer enough. I've built
2.6.30 from the karmik git tree, used a config derived from kukilinux
config, with these exact options, and I still get heavy corruption after
suspend. If the sdcard isn't mounted as /home then there is no problem.
There seem to be other bugs afecting SDHC and suspend/resume.

Of course, adding these options back would be a large step in the right
direction for full support of netbooks...

[Bug 376882] Re: 64 bit Jaunty bugs on compizconfig-settings-manager and thunderbird, so far.

2009-06-18 Thread Robert Ancell
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 285595] Re: Intrepid kernel UDMA/33 (slow disk transfer rate)

2009-06-18 Thread Karl Martin
Hi,

I had the same problem with my Thinkpad T61 and a hard disk Ultrabay
adapter using Jaunty. Linux reported a 40-wire cable and used UDMA/33.
However, adding libata.force=80c to the kernel boot options solved the
problem and the Ultrabay adapter is now connected with UDMA/100.

Best wishes

Karl Martin

[Bug 347307] Re: severely distorted audio playback using "fluidsynth" and soundfonts

2009-06-18 Thread Dave Roberts
Sorry forgot to answer Soundfonts question.

Tried 3 soundfonts

8MBGMSFX.SF2 surprisingly 8MB in size

32MbGMStereo.sf231 MB

FluidR3GM.SF2 141 MB

The smallest file was definately better but still horribly distorted in
parts (it did warn of 4 invalid generators so may have droppeds some
instruments)

The 31 MB and 141 MB files were as badly distorted as each other.

Thanks very much

[Bug 349992] Re: [i945 tiling] (Needs kernel 2.6.30-rc3) Low performance due to no A17 workaround

2009-06-18 Thread Ike Panhc
Hi,

Thanks for the informations, it seems the upstream commit
280b713b5b0fd84cf2469098aee88acbb5de859c is the only solution. I am
sorry to say after cherry-pick, the patch is too large to be a SRU
patches.

If you suffer with low performance, could you use mainline kernel
instead, it contains with the commit and we have reports that it works
fine. You can easily find the mainline kernel at
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.30/

I will leave this bug and am sorry that I can not help anything.

[Bug 347307] Re: severely distorted audio playback using "fluidsynth" and soundfonts

2009-06-18 Thread Dave Roberts
The command I used to call Fluidsynth was:-
fluidsynth ~/Guitar/Soundfonts/32MbGMStereo.sf2 ~/snooker.mid
which gives severe distortion

also tried :-
fluidsynth-o synth.gain=0.02 ~/Guitar/Soundfonts/32MbGMStereo.sf2
~/snooker.mid
same distortion, although much lower level output.

Played to file using:-
fluidsynth -i -a file ~/name.raw ~/Guitar/Soundfonts/32MbGMStereo.sf2
~/snooker.mid

converted to .wav using:- (thanks for info BTW)
sox -b 16 -c 2 -s -r 44100 fluidsynth.raw fluidsynth.wav
The resulting .wav file is lower quality than the .mid replay and it has timing
errors, however it does not suffer the
distortion of the direct options.

I first noticed this problem using Fluidsynth as a Tuxguitar plugin
sound playback tool, distorted in Intrepid and Jaunty but clean in
Hardy.

[Bug 389326] [NEW] SYSTEM hangs on increasing priority with g-s-m

2009-06-18 Thread k c davis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

Tried to increase priority of a process using the gnome system monitor
(2.26.0.1). After clicking "change priority" the busy/wait wheel spins
but the system is totally hung; left it for 10+ minutes one time trying
to wait it out. Only way out I've found is to restart the box. It's
happened three consecutive times; twice on dragon player, third time on
g-s-m itself. I haven't the patience tonight to try it again. ( 9.04,
AMD 64) I don't often tinker with priorities, but I didn't see this
behavior with 8.04

This system has other hangs: _ sometimes_ on unlocking screen when bad
password tried, and it consistently takes a long time to open large
directories with nautilus, but then it's only nautilus that's
temporarily hung (both previously reported).

[Bug 332202] Re: Compiz "double free or corruption"

2009-06-18 Thread Robert Ancell
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 389317] [NEW] Nautilus Bookmarks can't be removed

Selecting the "Edit Bookmarks" option from the Nautilus Bookmarks menu
allows me to allows me to remove the Documents, Music, Pictures, etc.,

This is what I want.

However, after a reboot, all the folders are back. Somehow nautilus is
