[Bug 296578] Re: System crash when using wireless

2009-08-23 Thread Antonio Roberts
I've just had a major problem with Ubuntu. I'm running 9.04 with all
updates as of 23rd August 2009 on an ASUS F5SL laptop. I've attached
some pictures (images.zip) that can help illustrate this problem better.
I have a problem that is similar to this bug where my computer freezes
occasionally when connecting to a network. Usually I just hold down the
power button and restart and everything is fine. Occasionally when fsck
runs it finds a few inconsistencies but fixes them and I get on with my
day as usual.

However this time I loaded up Ubuntu (the computer had not crashed
beforehand) and upon login I was greeted by an error. I didn't/couldn't
take a screenshot but it was saying that an item in the gnome panel
couldn't be loaded. I pressed close and then had an error saying that x
or my graphics couldn't be loaded. I had to restart the computer and
then the major problems began.

The loadup screen would run as normal but then my screen would go all
glitchy (glitchscreen.jpg) This would blink a few times and tehn my
system would become unresponsive. I restarted and fsck would run at the
loading screen and would stop after 13% saying that there's an error and
that I must run fsck manually

I tried pressing esc at the grub bootloader and running xfix. This did
nothing. I tried booting in recovery mode and fsck would run
automatically and stop at 13% with the same errors as above (fsck.jpg).

At first I ran memtest but after 63% and an hours wait with no errors I
was advised to cancel it and run fsck manually after it failed to do it
automatically. I got several messages along the lines of "Inodes 92192
count wrong. Fix?[y/n]" (manualfsck.jpg) I pressed yes on all of these
and then restarted. The boot screen loaded as normal and then I got the
glitch screen again.

Luckily I am able to load up a LiveCD and backup all of my data, which
makes me feel more comfortable with the idea of reinstalling. However,
what I want to know is what is this problem, where is it and how can I
fix it? I have the proprietary graphics driver installed for the ATI
card and have done since I installed Ubuntu in March but that has never
caused me problems. From the start Ubuntu has occasionally been crashing
due to wireless issues.

Is this a case of a bad wireless card, bad driver, proprietary graphics
card messing things up or something that I have missed along the line.

[Bug 403325] Re: drag and drop to local folders is offset

2009-08-23 Thread mac_v
@Dominik George :
Can you clarify where it is released?
I'm on Karmic 32 bit fully up-to-date and i still see this error.
[2.0.0.23+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu1]
or Was it a fix commit?

Or I think you have only one thunderbird account? and dont see the
error.

If there are multiple accounts and you drag the mail below the first account
the cursor is always positioned wrong[much higher than the pointer] ,
Whereas , while dragging into the first account , the cursor is correctly
positioned [below the pointer].

If it is not a commit , Kindly read the upstream report , this is a
nasty bug in the core, which affects both firefox and thunderbird.

[Bug 417724] [NEW] create BIOS Boot Partition on GPT

2009-08-23 Thread Colin Watson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: partman-auto

GRUB2 support for GPT without the use of blocklists requires a BIOS Boot
Partition. See http://grub.enbug.org/BIOS_Boot_Partition for details. If
we don't do this for Karmic, then we'll be stuck with a very suboptimal
bootloader arrangement, so I'm marking this as release-critical.

[Bug 267274] Re: mythtv-backend crash: memory corruption

2009-08-23 Thread MarcRandolph
Howdy! This ticket is quite old and the mythtv developers upstream have
stopped focusing on 0.21 based reports in preparation for a 0.22 release
later this year. Can you please try to see if this bug is reproducible
on 0.22? If it is, we can try to forward this bug upstream to get the
right eyes focused on it - otherwise we need to close it.

We have builds of mythtv 0.22 available on a PPA to test. Please follow
the directions at http://mythbuntu.org/auto-builds to enable them.

WARNING: If you intend to revert back to 0.21 after testing, you will
need to back up your database before upgrading.

thank you Marcus, scrolling is now disabled in the window list :)

I just had to install fakeroot before everything else.
note there's already an update proposed for libwnck22, I don't know if this

let's hope some method to disable this scrolling in the windows list will find
it's way officially in gnome desktop : to compile from source is not for
everyone.

[Bug 417717] Re: Jaunty - sound card not recognized after kernel update

2009-08-23 Thread Noel J. Bergman
If you run also-info.sh from -13, and run a diff, what do you see? I
ran alsa-info.sh against my -15, and one notable difference is that I
have snd_hda_intel loaded, and you don't.

[Bug 417719] Re: [Karmic Regression] Upgrade killed wireless network access

2009-08-23 Thread Oybon
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: network-manager

Worked perfectly till todays upgrade. (23rd Aug)

Since upgrade (last before kernel -6) Wireless network is connecting,
and reported being connected, but not providing access to the system.

The Network manager is showing the process of connection, but then
switching to the default wired port even without any connection to it.
The (supposedly) working wireless connection is completely ignored.

Switching (via physical switch) wireless on off, prompts reconnect, but
  connection is still ignored.
+
+ Wireless access can be obtained by successfully connecting to a physical
+ network, and then simply yanking out the cable. Network manager
+ instantly reverts to the pre-existing wireless connection.

[Bug 417711] Re: Firefox 3.5 64bit has trouble showing certain websites

2009-08-23 Thread Noel J. Bergman
I see the hotmail.com problem with Shiretoko (3.5.2+nobinonly-
0ubuntu0.9.04.1) on Jaunty. Will check on Karmic.

Keep in mind that Firefox-3.5 on Jaunty is NRFPT, so if you're just
looking to play, you might want to use the PPA: https://launchpad.net
/~ubuntu-mozilla-daily/+archive/ppa.

After shutting down the laptop, the battery still slowly drains, going

[Bug 417717] [NEW] Jaunty - sound card not recognized after kernel update

2009-08-23 Thread charles smee
Public bug reported:

When I updated Ubuntu 9.04 from kernel 2.6.28-13, to 2.6.28-14, I had
sound upon rebooting to complete the installation, but after shutting
down and restarting the computer, the sound card was no longer
recognized, and right-clicking on the volume control icon and selecting
"Preferences" showed only null for playback and capture. However, re-
booting to kernel "-13" restored the sound, and the volume control
preferences shows "HDA Intel (Alsamixer)", "Realtek ALC888 (OSS Mixer)",
etc. When I updated from kernel "-14" to kernel "15", I observed the
same thing -- sound after the reboot to complete the installation but,
after shutting down and restarting the computer, the sound card was not
recognized, and still isn't. But, I can get my sound back anytime by
using GRUB to boot into the "-13" kernel.

I have on-motherboard intel sound and, when I boot into kernel "-13" and went
to the !!
!!ALSA Information Script v 0.4.57
!!

page for my computer, I find:

!!Soundcards recognised by ALSA
!!-

 0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xfdff8000 irq 16

However, when I boot to the kernel "-15" and do the same thing, I find:

!!Soundcards recognised by ALSA
!!-

--- no soundcards ---

This is VERY repeatable. I hope someone can help me restore my sound
with kernel "-15" and with upcoming kernel updates as well.

Here are the complete ALSA information scripts for my computer (gotten
by typing " wget -O alsa-info.sh http://alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh &&
bash ./alsa-info.sh" into a terminal) for kernels "-15" and "-13"
respectively:

[Bug 394036] Re: MySQL 5.0.22 Crash on Ubuntu 6.06.2 LTS (SELECT 0+0+0...)

2009-08-23 Thread Andreas Olsson
I can reproduce this bug in MySQL 5.0.24a-9ubuntu2.4 (edgy)
It appears to have been fixed in MySQL 5.0.38-0ubuntu1 (feisty)

Do note that even affected MySQL versions can detect/handle ERROR 1436.
It seems as if the option thread_stack has to be within a certain range
for this bug to manifest itself.

[Bug 417715] [NEW] pptp missing from default install

2009-08-23 Thread John McCabe-Dansted
Public bug reported:

Pptp is type of VPN. As noted at
  http://plebs.com.au/?p=797
the lack of pptp in the default install leads to a catch-22. The user needs to
connect to the VPN before they can apt-get the pptp packages, but they also
have to download the pptp packages before they can connect the the VPN. As I
commented on the blog there are a couple of ways around this, never-the-less it
would be much more convenient if these packages were included in the default
install. Would it be possible to do this?

Currently there is no mention of pptp at:

[Bug 238052] Re: mythtv not queuing auto transcode job

2009-08-23 Thread MarcRandolph
Howdy, and thank you for helping to make Mythbuntu better. The mythtv
developers upstream have stopped focusing on 0.21 based reports in
preparation for a 0.22 release later this year. Can you please try to
see if this bug is reproducible on 0.22? If it is, we can try to
forward this bug upstream to get the right eyes focused on it.

We have builds of mythtv 0.22 available on a PPA to test. Please follow
the directions at http://mythbuntu.org/auto-builds to enable them.

WARNING: If you intend to revert back to 0.21 after testing, you will
need to back up your database before upgrading.

Thanks!

[Bug 417709] [NEW] Connect button would make Network Connections window easier to use.

2009-08-23 Thread John McCabe-Dansted
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

As shown in the Screenshot the Network Connections window does not have a
connect button. If everything goes well the connection will appear in the
network manager window. However some users may not know that they have to
switch focus from the edit connections window to the panel. More importantly,
what if there is some problem? The UI does not provide the use any way of
saying "I know you think the connection is unavailable, but please try to
connect and give me an error message telling me what is wrong.". As shown in
the screen shot, the "Vodafone" connection has not appeared. I can think of a
number of reasons why it might not appear:
  - Flaw in usb cable or phone
  - Blue man not correctly configured.
  - APN for vodafone incorrect.
  - Software bug
However without an error message I cannot tell which it is. Even a unhelpful
Error message like "Unknown Error" would atleast let me know it was trying to
connect and give me a phrase I could Google for.

I have heard that blueman has to be used in place of the bluetooth
utilities is required, that Ubuntu's default apn for vodafone is
incorrect, and that USB is easier to set up than bluetooth. I have tried
all that and nothing worked. But that is not what this bug report is
about.

This bug is about the lack of a button that will always either connect
or provide the user with some error message.

[Bug 117767] Re: digiKam imports images with wrong filename from EXIF

2009-08-23 Thread MartijnNL
The problem is likely a combination of a libgphoto2 and a Digikam issue.

Libgphoto2 sets a wrong file last modified time on importing, and
Digikam uses the modified time instead of the file created time. The
problem in digikam should be solved either way, as in my opinion it's
the created time which counts. The libgphoto2 problem is secondary.
Would be nice if it were solved but not critical. I'm currently using
the latest libgphoto2 from karmic (under hardy) because of the support
for my camera. And that still has the issue.

As stated above the version of libgphoto2 and digikam in jaunty have the
issue as well.

# apt-get source gnome-panel
# cd gnome-panel-2.26.0 <-- CORRECT
# cp /path/to/scroll_gui.patch debian/patches/30_scroll_gui.patch (from
http://bugzilla-attachments.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=138627)

Also note that it's two different patches, one for libwnck and one for
gnome-panel.

Also, I had to goto System->Keyboard and change keyboard model from Generic to
Logitech Internet 350 keyboard.
It didn't automatically do this for me.

[Bug 355220] Re: mythfrontend refuses to start and always quits with a segmention fault.

2009-08-23 Thread MarcRandolph
If this is not the case, please feel free to re-open, although the
mythtv developers upstream have stopped focusing on 0.21 based reports
in preparation for a 0.22 release later this year - so it would need to
be reproduced with the newer version.

We have builds of mythtv 0.22 available on a PPA to test. Please follow
the directions at http://mythbuntu.org/auto-builds to enable them.

WARNING: If you intend to revert back to 0.21 after testing, you will
need to back up your database before upgrading.

Closing on the assumption this is restricted to the upgrade of this
single installation since:

* there were not other reports of this
* originator is unable to reproduce

[Bug 417665] Re: empathy tubes no longer supported in recent karmic build

2009-08-23 Thread Guy Van Sanden
Someone on #telpathy offered a possible explanation:
nocturn, I think it's because empathy and vinagre are not coordinate
 you should wait 2_27_90 empathy
because in 2_27_90 we changed the name of the tube
 x_vnc -> rfb
so empathy creates an x_vnc service
and vinagre tries to handle an rfb service
 that's why vinagre fails
sjoerd, Zdra why we don't have 2_27_90 version for empathy?
