[Bug 296578] Re: System crash when using wireless
I've just had a major problem with Ubuntu. I'm running 9.04 with all updates as of 23rd August 2009 on an ASUS F5SL laptop. I've attached some pictures (images.zip) that can help illustrate this problem better. I have a problem that is similar to this bug where my computer freezes occasionally when connecting to a network. Usually I just hold down the power button and restart and everything is fine. Occasionally when fsck runs it finds a few inconsistencies but fixes them and I get on with my day as usual. However this time I loaded up Ubuntu (the computer had not crashed beforehand) and upon login I was greeted by an error. I didn't/couldn't take a screenshot but it was saying that an item in the gnome panel couldn't be loaded. I pressed close and then had an error saying that x or my graphics couldn't be loaded. I had to restart the computer and then the major problems began. The loadup screen would run as normal but then my screen would go all glitchy (glitchscreen.jpg) This would blink a few times and tehn my system would become unresponsive. I restarted and fsck would run at the loading screen and would stop after 13% saying that there's an error and that I must run fsck manually I tried pressing esc at the grub bootloader and running xfix. This did nothing. I tried booting in recovery mode and fsck would run automatically and stop at 13% with the same errors as above (fsck.jpg). At first I ran memtest but after 63% and an hours wait with no errors I was advised to cancel it and run fsck manually after it failed to do it automatically. I got several messages along the lines of "Inodes 92192 count wrong. Fix?[y/n]" (manualfsck.jpg) I pressed yes on all of these and then restarted. The boot screen loaded as normal and then I got the glitch screen again. Luckily I am able to load up a LiveCD and backup all of my data, which makes me feel more comfortable with the idea of reinstalling. However, what I want to know is what is this problem, where is it and how can I fix it? I have the proprietary graphics driver installed for the ATI card and have done since I installed Ubuntu in March but that has never caused me problems. From the start Ubuntu has occasionally been crashing due to wireless issues. Is this a case of a bad wireless card, bad driver, proprietary graphics card messing things up or something that I have missed along the line. ** Attachment added: "images.zip" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/30695704/images.zip -- System crash when using wireless https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/296578 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager Worked perfectly till todays upgrade. [Bug 417715] [NEW] pptp missing from default install
Public bug reported: Pptp is type of VPN. As noted at http://plebs.com.au/?p=797 the lack of pptp in the default install leads to a catch-22. The user needs to connect to the VPN before they can apt-get the pptp packages, but they also have to download the pptp packages before they can connect the the VPN. As I commented on the blog there are a couple of ways around this, never-the-less it would be much more convenient if these packages were included in the default install. [Bug 417709] [NEW] Connect button would make Network Connections window easier to use.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager As shown in the Screenshot the Network Connections window does not have a connect button. If everything goes well the connection will appear in the network manager window. However some users may not know that they have to switch focus from the edit connections window to the panel. More importantly, what if there is some problem? The UI does not provide the use any way of saying "I know you think the connection is unavailable, but please try to connect and give me an error message telling me what is wrong.". As shown in the screen shot, the "Vodafone" connection has not appeared. I can think of a number of reasons why it might not appear: - Flaw in usb cable or phone - Blue man not correctly configured. - APN for vodafone incorrect. - Software bug However without an error message I cannot tell which it is. Even a unhelpful Error message like "Unknown Error" would atleast let me know it was trying to connect and give me a phrase I could Google for. I have heard that blueman has to be used in place of the bluetooth utilities is required, that Ubuntu's default apn for vodafone is incorrect, and that USB is easier to set up than bluetooth. I have tried all that and nothing worked. But that is not what this bug report is about. This bug is about the lack of a button that will always either connect or provide the user with some error message. Howdy! This ticket is quite old and the mythtv developers upstream have stopped focusing on 0.21 based reports in preparation for a 0.22 release later this year. [Bug 117767] Re: digiKam imports images with wrong filename from EXIF
The problem is likely a combination of a libgphoto2 and a Digikam issue. Libgphoto2 sets a wrong file last modified time on importing, and Digikam uses the modified time instead of the file created time. The problem in digikam should be solved either way, as in my opinion it's the created time which counts. The libgphoto2 problem is secondary. Would be nice if it were solved but not critical. I'm currently using the latest libgphoto2 from karmic (under hardy) because of the support for my camera. And that still has the issue.
