[Bug 425092] [NEW] Kind of a bug: Seahorse won't let user create new OpenPGP key without last name

2009-09-05 Thread sgtmattbaker
Public bug reported:

Opening Seahorse through the Applications>Accessories>Passwords and
Encryption Keys seahorse will not let users create new keys. Going to
file>new>pgp key the create button is greyed out. When a user enters
information the button is not activated. If the "does not expire" box is
unticked the same still occurs. The issue is that a last name must be
entered in the name box. I don't know if this affects some people but
this may be an issue with some people.

[Bug 425088] [NEW] MSI X-Slim 340 - Front Mic not working

2009-09-05 Thread Fuchur
Public bug reported:

Dearest Developers and advanced users,

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy packagename'
or by checking in Synaptic.
Did try more then one thing to install. Like skype 2.1, pulse volume control
and more. But didn solve the problem.

3) What you expected to happen
That by changing the volume settings of front mic and front mic boost the front
mic (mic fisiclay on the screen edge next to the camera would start working on
my MSI X-slim 340 Laptop (In MS VISTA that is installed by default :-( it does
work...) This seems to make it an ubuntu bug I believe. If not please correct
me.

4) What happened instead
The front mic settings in volume control are in fact for the mic jack on the
side which works perfectly! But dont always want to run for my external mic if
someone calls me. And it seems naming in that case is wrong.

If any more info is needed please let me know exactly how to fetch it
please. No Ubuntu newbie but lets say novice user.

Many Thanks,

Frank

[Bug 253765] Re: Replace Pidgin and Ekiga with Empathy

2009-09-05 Thread Yannick Defais
Hi,

Can someone answer me why Empathy will still replace Ekiga?
Ekiga is the default client for the SIP protocol in Jaunty and AFAIK the SIP
protocol is severely broken in Karmic using Empathy:

SIP calls no longer work (Incompatibility with telepathy-sofiasip)
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/telepathy-sofiasip/+bug/409103

Empathy do not support NAT for SIP: NAT traversal for SIP using Empathy
https://bugs.launchpad.net/telepathy-sofiasip/+bug/294994

SIP/Ekiga accounts don't store contacts
https://bugs.launchpad.net/telepathy-sofiasip/+bug/294991

Best regards,
Yannick

[Bug 421318] Re: totem crashed with SIGABRT in __kernel_vsyscall()

2009-09-05 Thread Tharakan

1. Easily reproducible (In my case it was a simple MP3 file which was playing
perfectly in 9.04 (I have just upgraded to 9.10))

2. Just play an mp3 song, in my case the two times it crashed, the
Visualizations were on fullscreen. I did a third time without the
fullscreen, and it exited properly

Thank you Jacek Grzebyta,

It seems there is something wrong in the way Ekiga deals with multiple
interfaces. I'll push your report upstream.

I would like to know the reason why you have 2 network interfaces in
your setup, "wlan0" and "br0"? Do you use virtualization?

[Bug 425081] [NEW] package linux-restricted-modules-2.6.28-15-generic 2.6.28-15.20 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-removal script returned error exit status 1

[Bug 327174] Re: labyrinth crashes at startup "ImportError: No module named Numeric" : missing python-numeric dependency

2009-09-05 Thread Jay S.
OK, it would appear that /usr/bin/labyrinth uses "site-packages" in its path
definition rather than "dist-packages"; in other words, correcting only the
version number (from 2.5 to 2.6) is not enough. Make sure the line looks
exactly as shown in comment 6.
Once this error was corrected, I had no more problems except it now could not
locate Numeric - but then that was easily solved by installing python-numeric.

[Bug 425080] [NEW] Kein Audio

2009-09-05 Thread Josef Huber
Public bug reported:

Audio funktioniert nicht unter Ubuntu 9.04 Update von 8.10
weder interne Klänge noch mp3 oder zB. Kaffeine.

beim Test starten:
Audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512!
audioconvert! audioresample! gconfaudiosink: could not open aidio device for

[Bug 226165] Re: bookmarks are gone, I can not add bookmarks or import bookmarks backup, the toolbar does not work, the buttons back, then update are broken, the bar gives direction errors

2009-09-05 Thread T. Ramakrishnan
Thanks, everybody! I tried what q41 suggested
(sudo chown ...) and it worked.

Background info:
Just like osfast, my Firefox problem happened when i
  downloaded and installed Google Earth.

(There were some files in my profile that were
owned by root. This must have happened when i
   installed Google Earth.)

[Bug 330298] Re: mdadm software raid breaks on intrepid-jaunty upgrade

2009-09-05 Thread RnSC
Continuing with my 8/31 2009 post, I erased the disks and reinstalled
9.04. Still had problem. Reading the mdadm wiki, kernel detection and
assembly of arrays is considered deprecated, and only works with version
0.9 superblocks anyway. I use version 1.2 superblocks so that they are
near the start of the disk so I can zero them out in a reasonable time
when I want to reuse the disks. 8.10 did not have any problem
assembling these. I don't know if it is because it FOUND them, or if it
looked at mdadm.conf. I did not KNOW about mdadm.conf until a few days
ago, so if it assembled them from mdadm.conf, mdadm must have created
the file for me. Since arrays using version 1.2 superblocks *cannot* be
auto-assembled, my mdadm.conf in 8.10 must have been created for me.

I did a "mdadm --examine --scan >> /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf" and the system
works fine. (Well, there are other mdadm segfault problems which I just
put a bug report in for, but that is another story).

So I conclude that *whatever* is supposed to create mdadm.conf when you
create an array with command line mdadm commands worked in 8.10, and is
broken in 9.04.

[Bug 137166] Re: lvm config outputs vg freespace in 10**6, inputs in 2**20

2009-09-05 Thread RnSC
I did not go with Ubuntu in the 2007 time frame, instead staying with
Suse which I had used for years. However I have recently switched to
Ubuntu.

I don't recall where the LVM configuration WAS, but with 8.10 and 9.04 I
don't see any way to do MD or LVM through the install CD. This is very
disappointing. Suse's installer with regard to partitioning is much
better. You can specify options for disk formats, mount options, and do
MD and LVM. It is VERY nice. But they have other problems, and these
things are not hard to do by hand as long as you are not booting off of
them. So I just do mdadm and the lvm2 commands in a shell.

So I don't know if these numbers are still messed up, because I don't
SEE a GUI like MD or LVM configuration program any more!

It probably is silly to you, but I would appreciate any comments
pointing me in the right direction. This would be nice.

Thanks.

[Bug 137171] Re: re-install with md(raid) in same place uses old raid data

2009-09-05 Thread RnSC
Using the "skip=" option on dd does not help. It seems to take just as
much time as writing zeros to the whole disk. It must skip by reading
them, as opposed to issueing an appropriate command to the device.

Instead I have started using the rev 1.2 SuperBlock for mdadm. This
places the superblock very near the front of the disk, so I only have to
zero a little bit (It says in the man page, but I just do a MB since it
is quick).

Be aware that kernel-sensed auto-assembly is depricated, and only works
with superblock version 0.9 anyway. So you HAVE to keep track of your
mdadm.conf. In the past I have never worried about it - it always self
assembled, even on a clean install. Just hook up the disks and it
worked. Now you have to have the .conf file. Minor annoyance.

[Bug 425071] [NEW] Sync pyqwt3d 0.1.7~cvs20090625-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2009-09-05 Thread Scott Kitterman

Please sync pyqwt3d 0.1.7~cvs20090625-1 (universe) from Debian unstable
(main).

Should solve current installability problem with Python 2.6.

Changelog since current karmic version 0.1.6-2:

pyqwt3d (0.1.7~cvs20090625-1) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Gudjon I. Gudjonsson ]
  * New CVS version
- Builds from source (Closes: #527662)
  * Add patch 03_fix_const_char
  * Upgrade build dependencies to sip4 (4.8.1)
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.8.2 (no changes needed)
  * Hardcode DEB_UPSTREAM_VERSION, change in next release

  [ Sandro Tosi ]
  * debian/control
- switch Vcs-Browser field to viewsvn

  [ Bernd Zeimetz ]
  * Replace python-central by python-support to follow the change in
python-qt4. This would not be an issue if python-central would
create namespace packages properly. We should not need to
change the build-dependency on python-qt4 as python-support should
handle it for all versions in a sane way.
  * Depend on python-qtX-gl larger or equal than the version the package
was built against.
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.8.1, no changes needed.

  [ Piotr Ożarowski ]
  * Add get-orig-source rule
  * Prepare for Python 2.6: dh_install now recognizes files in
/usr/local/*/dist-packages/ as well
  * Add preinst maintainer scipts in -qt3 and -qt4 packages

[Bug 425067] [NEW] Current release is the wrong upstream source - surveys don't work

2009-09-05 Thread Richard Johnson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plasma-widget-kubuntu-qa-feedback

I am fixing this now, just filing the correct paperwork for the upload
:)

Anyways what happened is the wrong version from Bzr got uploaded. That
version had a hardcoded URL to a survey. I had changed it so we wouldn't
have to update the source for every release.

The new version that I am about to upload, that fixes this bug report,
utilizes a remote PHP script on the survey server. The widget passes the
version of Kubuntu that it is running on, and the remote PHP script
checks that version against the latest CD images release as well as
makes sure there is a survey available for said release. If everything
checks out then the widget is redirected to the correct survey. If there
is no survey, they will be told there is no survey.

[Bug 387562] Re: OOo F11 key brings up Style and Formatting instead of Full Screen

2009-09-05 Thread Rick Spencer
In my mind, this is not complicated. On Ubuntu, F11 is Full Screen. The
fact that Styles and Formatting is bout to this key is annoying to me as
a *heavy* user of OO.

I agree with mac_v, existing users who do not celebrate that change to a
sane and consistent key binding will adjust. If they can't, well,
keybindings remain configurable. If it's a huge mistake we can roll it
back before launch.

Great to see upstream considering this change as well. Reading the
upstream bug reports suggests to me that it would be helpful for us to
try this in Ubuntu. If it works out as well I as I expect it to, that
will be good information for them as they prioritize and plan.

I have seen this as well, probably not with this particular version, but
I've seen this. It's very unfortunate that the packages don't seem to
be properly tested before release. Installation, upgrade and
deinstallation is really the bare minimum of a test a package maintainer
should do. It's very scary to think even this doesn't happen.

2009-09-05 Thread Rolf Leggewie
I agree that Ahmed to whom we are thankful for maintaining this package
needs to be more careful when releasing packages. The official, non-PPA
Ubuntu package does not have this problem as evidenced by
http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/i386/sl-modem-source/filelist

I'm sure this ticket will be enough of a reminder for Ahmed to check
that the binary packages officially shipped do indeed contain the files
they are meant to contain and thus close as invalid.
/usr/share/man/man8/slmodemd.8.gz probably doesn't belong into the sl-

[Bug 425066] [NEW] Please remove libdc1394 and all binaries

2009-09-05 Thread Scott Kitterman
Public bug reported:

Package is obsoleted by libdc1394-22 and all rdepends have been migrated
to the newer library. The package player still carries libdc1394-dev
(which libdc1394-13-dev provides) as an alternative build-depend, but
it's primary build depend is libdc1394-22-dev, so the packages have no
unique rdepends.

Binaries to remove:

libdc1394-13
libdc1394-13-dev
libdc1394-examples

The package does not currently build and Google indicates that is
unlikely to change. This package is also blocking libraw1394-8 being

Public bug reported:

When converting number bases using the GNOME Calculator (gcalctool, command
gnome-calculator), two things occur:
- When converting a hex number to decimal, the status area on the bottom says
"No sane value to convert" and the display doesn't change - meaning that even
hex values with A-F stay the same in "Dec" mode
- When converting that number back to hex, as a result, if it has A-F in it,
the application will crash.

[Bug 325973] Re: gnome-session keeps respawning nautilus when no desktop is drawed

2009-09-05 Thread barbobot
This is also happening in karmic Koala, same exact behaviour with the
latest gnome available. Let me know if there is anything I can do to
help troubleshoot this further.

[Bug 140574] Re: gnome-mouse-properties does not switch touchpad tap-buttons

2009-09-05 Thread Jennie Petoumenou
Problem persists in 9.04.
My current work-around (for synaptics touchpad): Go to
System->Preferences->Startup Applications and add this new command:
xinput set-int-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" 275 8 2 3 0 0 3 2 1

I think this is a bug and not a wishlist item. Of course, there are very
few left-handed people who use a left-handed mouse on a laptop. But for
those of us who do use this option, tapping on our touchpad results in a
right-click instead of a left-click. Very annoying.
