[Bug 425330] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.10 alpha 5 installation error

2009-09-06 Thread Benny Källström
Public bug reported:

This is a problem that i have had since Ubuntu 9.10 alpha 4. I am using
an HP 6830s laptop. Ubuntu 9.10 alpha 4 clean install works fine. If i
update the system with update manager, and restart the sytem, ubuntu
boots and i can see the new ubuntu loading screen, the computer thinks
for a minute and then the screen goes black for one second, back to the
loading screen, goes black again, and so it repeats. I can´t do anything
when it is doing that. Only close down the computer. I have tried Ubuntu
9.10 alpha 5, and it is the same error there. Can´t boot up the live cd.

So i have no idea what could cause this. Still i do like alpha 4.

[Bug 425334] [NEW] [RV730] xorg-edgers: Desaturated windows turn into solid colored rectangles

2009-09-06 Thread marmuta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgl1-mesa-dri

Setting the saturation for a composited window to less than 100%
abruptly turns it into a solid white/grey rectangle. Its content stays
invisible until the saturation is returned to 100%. This happens in
compiz with unresponsive windows via the Fading Windows plug-in as
well as when manually setting saturation with the Opacity Brightness
Saturation plug-in. Opacity and brightness are unaffected and work as
expected.

Steps to reproduce:
$ gnome-calculator
$ killall -s STOP gnome-calculator
- wait and watch gnome-calculator become solid grey (see screen shot)

or:
$ gnome-calculator
$ ccsm
Accessibility-Opacity Brightness Saturation-Saturation
press new , Windows: class=Gnome-calculator, Window values: 99
- gnome-calculator turns solid white

[Bug 420924] Re: suspend resume fails in kubuntu

2009-09-06 Thread hasi
@Joe:

I also saw that suspend worked WITH compositing in Alpha4. And I totally
agree that it's about time to get decent compositing performance with
the Intel graphics cards. I am extremely happy about the new Intel
drivers in general; great performance!

What I was not sure about was whether kmix and knetworkmanager were also
killed in the standby/resume cycle in Alpha4 as I described in post #9.

updated into karmic.

That's the point of having development releases, to get things tested,
reported and fixed during the cycle.

IMO there's no need to worry and create patches of things that were
fixed upstream and will sure reach downstream (ubuntu) in the next
release.

[Bug 232305] Re: audacious does not play wav files correct when output is pulse audio

2009-09-06 Thread sdeziel
I have the same issue with Jaunty *and* Karmic.

Here is the packages list for my Karmic install :

audacious2.1-1ubuntu1
audacious-plugins 2.1-1ubuntu1
audacious-plugins-extra 2.1-1ubuntu1
pulseaudio 1:0.9.16~test6-3-g57e1-0ubuntu2

The ALSA Output Plugin (-ng) goes just fine.

The same problem occurs with my both of my sound cards :
- E-MU 0404 USB 2.0
- Intel 82801I (ICH9 family) HD Audio Controller

[Bug 139271] Re: Brother MFC does not allow setting 2nd tray paper size independently

2009-09-06 Thread theducks
Re-tested on 9.04 normal patches up to date.

Using Print test page: prints on Letter even though Tray 2 selected and Media
size set to Legal.
and there appears to be a scale issue with the image missing (off the page) the
top and right side
CUPS V1.3.x indicated on the test page (when set to print on Letter), truncated
after the 1 when set to Legal.

Printing from Firefox 3.0.13: (FF Page setup) US Legal, used Legal paper
but formatted on page as Letter.

The first print job to this printer after a Windows computer prints, from

[Bug 420277] Re: ldap tls refusing to initialize

2009-09-06 Thread PeterNSteinmetz
Interesting. My version also was an upgrade from
hardy-intrepid-jaunty. My /etc/ldap/ldap.conf doesn't contain a line
about TLS_RANDFILE though, and my install doesn't report the TLS:
gcry_control error, rather, there is nothing other than the main: TLS
init def ctx failed: -1 complaint. I suspect these may be related
problems, at least in the sense of hard to tell what is going wrong
during initialization.

I will likely later this weekend try to clear aside configuration and
try a local build of openldap with debugging for gdb turned on and built
against gnutls.

Select mode 'shared' and enter a manual dns.

For me it still doesn't work. It just ends up with the dhcp assigned

[Bug 351186] Re: [M76] [ubuntu 9.04] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled

2009-09-06 Thread Aaddron
I've found this is not a Ubuntu specific bug, the bug is present in
multiple distro's and like Ubuntu this bug was not present in the past
releases. In all the distro's tested the ones affected where the ones
released around or after the release of 9.04 (Mandriva 2009.1 for
example) so whatever is causing this is something lots of up to date
distro's started using in there latest releases. Couple things that come
to mind would be new kernel, new Xserver and new ATI drivers. My
uneducated guess would be it has something to do with the new Xserver or
the new drivers... maybe a little of both. Hopefully this information is
of some use to someone.

I have a HD3450 and the xserver-no-backfill patch like many before me
has fixed the issue in Ubuntu.

I am experiencing this problem with UXA mode as well. For what it's
worth, I'm running the latest Intel drivers from the swat-x ppa. If I
have UXA enabled in Xorg.conf the problem is reproduced exactly as
previously described. Disabling it causes everything to work properly.

[Bug 425347] [NEW] nntp: delisted newsgroups cant be unsubscribed

2009-09-06 Thread Fionn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

The folder subscription dialogue does not list all subscribed folders. Instead
it lists the folders that are listed as subscribable by the server.

So if you subscribe to a newsgroup and this group is being delisted on
the server then it will stay in your newsgroup list forever as a zombie
because the subscription dialogue will not list it and therefor it is
impossible uncheck its subscription status. This adds one up to the
count of unfortunate UI bugs in the subscription dialogue.

[Bug 425349] [NEW] glutKeyboardUpFunc not exported

2009-09-06 Thread Zach Morgan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libopengl-perl

My system:
Ubuntu 9.04 on a samsung nc10 netbook, with an intel graphics chip

Description:
It seems like a lot of symbols aren't being exported. glutKeyboardUpFunc, for
one, depends on GLUT_API_VERSION = 4, whereas glutKeyboardFunc does not. I
believe this is related to the cause of this bug, although GLUT_API_VERSION is
defined as 4 after the module is loaded. Undefined errors are why most of the
./examples/ in this package don't work.

On Cpan, this module is named OpenGL. The newest developer release
compiles installs, and glutKeyboardUpFunc does export, but most of the
./examples/ are still broken.

To repeat:

1) install libopengl-perl
2) run the following code:

use strict; use warnings;
use OpenGL qw/:all/;
glutInit();
glutKeyboardFunc();
glutKeyboardUpFunc();

The Error is this:
Undefined subroutine main::glutKeyboardUpFunc called at - line 5.

Thank you bugpeople :)

Public bug reported:

[Bug 425344] Re: apt-move doesn't put pidgin-themes or pidgin-plugin-pack in Packages.gz ...

2009-09-06 Thread Eric Seigne
Here is some new informations, if i manually update
/var/lib/apt/lists/fr.archive.ubuntu
.com_ubuntu_dists_jaunty_universe_binary-i386_Packages

from:

Package: pidgin-themes
Priority: optional
Section: universe/net
Installed-Size: 4792
.../...

to

Package: pidgin-themes
Priority: optional
Section: net
Installed-Size: 4792
.../...

apt-move takes pidgin-themes as a normal package. So apt-move seems to
have some problems with universe packages ?

[Bug 425358] [NEW] [karmic] realtime kernel 2.6.31 hangs on boot for several minutes, then hangs with X before login

2009-09-06 Thread David O'Toole
Public bug reported:

Upgraded a fresh Jaunty install to Karmic. New karmic generic kernel
works fine but realtime kernel does not. Hangs for about 5 minutes just
after printing some messages about the RTL8180/RTL8185 WLAN. Then it
proceeds to start Xorg and shows a spinning cursor with an Ubuntu splash
and progress bar. Screen goes black, spinning mouse cursor remains
forever. Virtual Terminal logins seem to work, but restarting Xorg
results in same behavior.

I will reboot and try to capture those messages and attach them. In the
meantime i've attached a normal boot's dmesg, and output of lshw and
cpuid.

This is a Toshiba laptop, model L505D-S5965 with 3GB ram, Athlon X2
DualCore QL-65 processors.

[Bug 425357] [NEW] Compiz freezes screen after resuming from suspend

2009-09-06 Thread Oded Arbel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I'm using Karmic and ever since about a month ago (not sure exact date)
whenever the computer returns from sleep the screen is frozen. The image
itself on the screen is frozen but the computer is still active
including the mouse cursor which works and I can hover it over screen
elements and see how the cursor reacts to them (turns to an I-beam when
over text fields etc).

When the computer resumes the screen is either frozen completely blank
(black) which is often how it is when it resumes from a closed laptop
lid or I see the previous content of the screen but its just a static
image - which often happens when I resume the laptop after it has been
sitting open for a few hours.

when that happens I can log in by positioning the mouse carefully on the
screensaver-lock input box, typing the password blindly and then blindly
using ALT-F2 and executing compiz --replace which restores my desktop
(albeit reset with all windows on the first workspace).

I can reproduce this 100%. My hardware is Thinkpad T61 with GM965.

[Bug 425360] [NEW] (2nd report: made a mistake) this is the last bug report. I didnot notice a mistake.

2009-09-06 Thread Joop
Public bug reported:

The only mistake/bug I noticed was the in the first report mentioned
broken file/package that I was not able to remove. Connected with the
Gwenview package.

I hope
A. there is an easy way to remove the broken file/package that works
B. that all the other bugs are gone when the broken file/package is removed.

Hope someone can help me. I'm very busy next 2 weeks so maybe I react
very slow.

[Bug 61570] Re: All sticky notes are erased when out of disk space

2009-09-06 Thread ryall
I have the same experience as Leo, ./gnome2/stickynotes_applet is
overwritten at logon. Notes are still retained but their contents are
blanked (also the note size is altered). File details show that it was
altered at logon.

This has just happened today, I have been using sticky notes and they
have been retained after a reboot until now.

[Bug 425362] [NEW] Alsa should show more device names in default setup

2009-09-06 Thread David Henningsson
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Jaunty and/or Karmic:

aplay, among other sound playing recording utilities, use
snd_device_name_hint() to enumerate known devices. However, with the
current (inherited from upstream) namehint policy, neither pulse or
default are shown - very valid devices if you ask me. These can be
shown if defaults.namehint.showall is changed to on in
/usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf, and possibly ~/.asoundrc.asoundconf as well.
Furthermore, the hw and plughw devices won't be shown until
defaults.namehint.extended is turned on as well.

So my suggestion is that we turn both defaults.namehint.extended and
defaults.namehint.showall on. I believe it would be better in the long
run.

[Bug 424867] Re: stalonetray crashed with SIGABRT in XPutImage()

2009-09-06 Thread kolbusa
It would be helpful if you could set debug level to 9, reproduce the
crash and post log here. I've fixed couple of bugs in background
handling code for 0.8, and I probably could backport them to 0.7.6, but
I need a log to verify that this crash is not something new.

Subscribing Andy, who originally introduced this. To be honest I don't
know what a late resume hang is either.

Any idea how to rephrase it better?

If the resume didn't work in the end and the computer is stuck, how can
it appear to have worked? Or does this mean that the resume failure
scripts didn't notice it any more?

[Bug 425368] [NEW] [karmic] alpha-5, the UI does not use translations at all

2009-09-06 Thread Tomasz Dominikowski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-selector

The gnome-language-selector UI does not make use of translations. It's
translated in jaunty, hasn't been touched since, the same template is
used for karmic, but no translation is used. This is a serious issue.

[Bug 425366] [NEW] Cannot connect to WEP 802.1x network

2009-09-06 Thread Ryan Zeigler
Public bug reported:

I am unable to connect to a wireless access point using WEP 802.1x encryption
with PEAP authentication and MSCHAPv2 inner authentication. My wireless adapter
(as given by lspci) is:
Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02).

The wireless network is in range and should be strong enough to connect as this
is what iwlist reports for the desired AP:
Quality=59/100  Signal level:-72 dBm  Noise level=-127 dBm

Following is an except from kern.log of the connection attempt:
Sep 6 14:50:55 Puck kernel: [ 472.500093] wlan0: authenticate with AP mac
addr
Sep 6 14:50:55 Puck kernel: [ 472.501069] wlan0: authenticate with AP mac

Sep 6 14:50:55 Puck kernel: [ 472.710746] wlan0: RX AssocResp from mac addr
(capab=0x11 status=0 aid=27)

choice (reason=3)
Sep 6 14:51:55 Puck kernel: [ 532.236906] wlan0: deauthenticated

Network manager spins like connecting. Both green lights pop up like
everything is working, but the connection fails and I am prompted for my
credentials again. I have attempt to connect to the AP manually using
iwconfig and wpa_supplicant with similar results.

lsb_release -r:
Ubuntu v 9.04

uname -a:
Linux Puck 2.6.28-15-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 18 19:25:34 UTC 2009 x86_64
GNU/Linux

The computer will fail to connect to the AP using a 32-bit installation
as well.

[Bug 425344] Re: apt-move doesn't put pidgin-themes or pidgin-plugin-pack in Packages.gz ...

2009-09-06 Thread Eric Seigne
Ok, i'm sorry, a lot of people have troubles with apt-move on ubuntu ...

Here is a quick and dirty solution, please copy getdist.awk file
attached to this bug in /usr/share/apt-move, then restart apt-move
localupdate ... every universe or multiverse packages will be integrated
in main local branch.

Is there some awk hackers to make a new apt-move package ?

[Bug 387900] Re: Could not create a python ScriptEngine for the Python Widget

2009-09-06 Thread 3vi1
I'm seeing the exact same issue with python plasmoids on this new karmic
install. My other system, where I upgraded from a previous version of
Kubuntu is working fine. :\

Installing the python-dev and (jaunty) python-plasma package on the new
system does not resolve the problem for me.

[Bug 106668] Re: Evince hangs on start attempting to stat non-existant file

2009-09-06 Thread sixela
I am also affected by this bug on a daily basis ; it is quite annoying,
and it's been around for a many years now ! The steps described by Ryan
Bair in comment #4 are the exact steps needed to reproduce the bug.

Reply to comment #6 Could you describe easy steps to set up a cifs
configuration ?
- you just need to install a samba server and edit smb.conf to setup a share.
