[Bug 208913] Re: aprsd crashes when someone logs in from network

2009-09-12 Thread Scott Evans
Likewise I to have suffered some ill effect of this bug and have
resorted to using a closed source alternate called javAPRSSrv. However I
believe that this issue should be reviewed...

segmentation fault on amd64 but all OK on i386

easy way to replicate is run application then attempt a connection to
any of the available ports defined and the program will terminate!

I realise that the amateur population may be small, but the use of this
program is still an important aspect for many that do.

I'm happy to do some debugging if this is an issue... but I'm by no
means a programmer myself! ;)

[Bug 427209] Re: printer will not work

2009-09-12 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your help.
Please find attached the outputs for the commands you asked to run.

It seems that also in my case the issue is with the modem driver -
disabling it from Hardware Drivers fixes the sound.

[Bug 427463] Re: FFe: Sync java-gnome 4.0.13-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2009-09-12 Thread Onkar Shinde
@Stefan,

The bug you mentioned is not actually a bug in java-gnome. The doc generation
process in java-gnome tries to take screenshots of some demo apps running with
help of xvfb. This screenshot generation triggers a problem in glib when using
old kernels (which seem to be the case on Debian buildd).
Another similar bug is http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=543587

This failure should not happen on Ubuntu buildd. In case it does, I will
simply disable screenshot generation for that arch.

[Bug 301035] Re: Place an Ubuntu icon/emblem on the system partition

2009-09-12 Thread mac_v
Marcus , the current patch upstream is not right , its a workaround. pls
read comment #20.

The work needs to be done as you have described [new naming],
If it is absolutely essential to get this done in Karmic , it is easier to edit
the gnome-dev-harddisk icon to have a logo than applying the current upstream
patch!

Also, you havent added your patch upstream, Why ?
And does upstream have a provision for feature freeze exceptions? [like Ubuntu
;) ]

commited fix when released takes care of this too...

The firmware is simply reloaded and the connection is reestablished.

So I would assume the problem never was ipw2200.

Could it be that some other kernel module eats up the precious kind of
memory that ipw2200 previously needed to reload its firmware?

I have something in mind like Bug #328232 where the values in
/proc/dri/0/gem_objects keep constantly growing. It would make sense
that machines having an ipw2200 WLAN adapter also use an Intel graphics
chipset.

At least my setup and that of the original poster match this
configuration.

Oh, and I didn't have to change my Xorg config or anything. Granted, the

[Bug 367464] Re: Jaunty freezes randomly

2009-09-12 Thread reader4
Having a similar issue on two different systems - one using NVIDIA and
the other using Intel. I don't get any flashing caps lock. When the
computer freezes, I am able to ssh to the machine from another computer
and run commands. Applications running in the X window are frozen (eg,
downloads carry the 'last modified' timestamp at the time of the freeze)
and the only solution is the kill the session from the command line.
Usually that does the trick - but everything is of course lost. Is
there something useful I could pull from the command line when this
happens?

[Bug 394500] Re: [karmic] pulseaudio: card not found - Null Output / Dummy Output

2009-09-12 Thread Shannon VanWagner
So I disabled the Hardware Drivers for the modem. So the slmodemd is not
loading now and I have sound everytime.

If you need some sort of output from the slmodemd as installed, I could
load it back in. I guess if I ever wanted to use the modem on this
machine, I would need to figure out some way to have it coexist with the
regular sound.

Also, the big problem I'm having now is that the sound is really quiet,
even though I turned up the soft/hard volume switches to the maximum
level.

I know this laptop can do much better than that - I've heard it before,
when I had use the sudo alsa force-reload before or something. Is there
some setting I can change somewhere to have the volume be louder? Like
maybe some type of pulseaudio setup wizard. Sorry if I haven't
researched pulseaudio as much as I should have already.

I appreciate your attention to the matter.

Regards,

Shannon

I'm experiencing the same bug.

I tested it with it the mainline kernel packages 2.6.31 amd64 and sound
works after resume. Unfortunately the current ATI binary drivers
provide no 3D with that kernel.

slmodemd is likely invoked from an initscript or Xsession script. You
can check which package contains it, then list the contents of said
package to see which file to inspect:

dpkg -S bin/slmodemd

[Bug 290704] Re: [fglrx]Computer freeze when switching user

There has been a new release of catalyst driver last week (9.9)
Maybe someone could try it out?. Though, I don't think the problem will
ever be solved unless to use open source driver, which is what you have
to do, even if it still missing some features, once we'll reach karmic+1
or karmic+2, it will be very interesting)

[Bug 428720] [NEW] Ristretto becomes unresponsive if you open an an image in a directory of SVGs

2009-09-12 Thread Cody A.W. Somerville
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ristretto

Ristretto becomes unresponsive if you open an an image in a directory
with more than a few SVGs. I imagine this is because SVGs are more
expensive to render and ristretto is busily trying to cache the other
images in the directory.

To test this, just open one of the SVGs in /usr/share/icons/gnome-
brave/scalable/devices/

[Bug 428721] [NEW] cooling fan not turning on while in screen saver Aspire 5100

2009-09-12 Thread stlubuntu
Public bug reported:

Cooling fan does not turn on when it should while in screen save (or powersave
screen off) causing an overheat and safety shutdown of laptop at 95 degrees C.

Acer Aspire 5100 laptop running 64-bit Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS. 1 MG RAM 2
Mhz dual core AMD processor (Turion 64-bit), acpi 0.09-3ubuntu1, acpid
1.0.4-5ubuntu9.3, acpi-support 0.109-0hardy2.

This is a new issue. This machine has been running 64-bit Ubuntu 8.04
since April 2008 and this problem only recently began to occur. I would
expect the fan to be turned on when necessary even when in screen saver
or monitor powersave off mode to keep the cpu within acceptable
operating parameters. This being a new issue is why I am not
attributing this to a hardware issue and am wondering if a recent update
caused a regression.

My temporary workaround is I installed a cpu temperature monitoring
applet which resides on my upper panel and not only displays the current
temperature but also sounds a repeating alarm whenever the cpu temp
exceed 72 C.

I can reproduce this by leaving the machine alone and allowing it to go
into screensaver and after some time the alarms will sound. Once I
wiggle the mouse the fan will then turn on and bring the temperature
back to acceptable levels.

While using the computer normally, I notice that it usually operates in
the mid 50's C and the fan will turn on when it reaches 63 C and bring
it back to the mid fifties.

I have not yet attempted a BIOS upgrade to see if that would help (I
feel like since this is a new problem that I should not have to resort
to that.)

Thanks for taking a look at this and attempting to resolve it.

Awesomethanks for the tip (see output below) - it's the slmodemd

remember "enabling" the Hardware Driver for the modem, shortly after

with the volume level set very high. Is there something I can do to fix

[Bug 428714] [NEW] hdate-applet should increment the date at nightfall, not midnight

2009-09-12 Thread toobuntu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hdate-applet

Days on the Hebrew calendar begin at nightfall, not at midnight like
they do on the Gregorian calendar. The hdate-applet should increment
dates at nightfall from Saturday night through Thursday night, and at
sundown on Friday night.

The reason for the different time on Friday night is because of the
uncertain time between sunset and nightfall, and the longstanding
tradition to err on the side of allotting extra time to the Sabbath from
Friday night to Saturday night.

If there is a desire to keep things simple and not implement the
sunset/nightfall distinction, the date should increment at sundown,
because that time is already known to and displayed by hdate-applet.

[Bug 383510] Re: virt-manager does not escape apostrophes

2009-09-12 Thread Andrew Bloxom
Thank you for posting this bug report, it saved me immense amounts of
frustration. A work around for me was to put the ISO in a path that did
not include an apostrophe.

For me the path was a CIFS share on a Windows box where spaces and
apostrophes are pretty common and are used to indicate ownership:

//server/Andrew's Files/XPInstall.ISO

I wasn't aware of the XML file though. moving the ISO to an
apostropheless path was good enough for me. :)

Re: [Bug 428523] Re: unable to update

2009-09-12 Thread Alex Lourie
Chris

As you can see from the output, you have no space left on the /boot
partition.

The operation you're trying to accomplish will not succeed until it has some
space to write to.

Check what you have on /boot, clean some space (you can ask for advice
regarding that on answers.launchpad.net) and try performing the installation
again.

[Bug 74518] Re: KDE clipboard (klipper) incompatible with lesstif

2009-09-12 Thread infolock
Just an FYI, this is not just limited to Nedit. This is an application-
wide issue. The Copy/Paste feature intermediately works and crashes.
I'm running KDE 4.2 and it happens so much it's extremely frustrating.
I not only use Nedit but also Zend Studio. The Copy/Paste issue also
happens in Konsole.

The reason is because the Klipper is not controlling the items "copied".
This is indeed only for the 4.x build as it does not happen in the 3.5
build.

I really hope this is resolved... I don't want to use Gnome, but as a
developer it's really making my life hell...
