[Bug 430393] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in free()

2009-09-16 Thread Ryan
I don't know what action triggered it. Since Nautilus will launch on
every window open, file action etc - if the stack trace from apport
isn't useful... Maybe a patch is needed to have Valgrind used on every
use of Nautilus?

[Bug 414560] Re: ath9k disassociates/reassociates a lot

2009-09-16 Thread kervel
hi,

as described in bug ... i worked around this problem by disabling two
new features in ATH9K (power management and rfkill polling) that were
described as possibly buggy in ath9k-devel.

i have put a rebuilt version of linux-backports-modules on this PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~frank-dekervel/+archive/ppa

for me it brings back jaunty-like performance.
i don't know much about ppa's and when i have to re-upload the package (on
every new linux-image ? or only when the version number increases?), but it
seems to work on my computer.

i used the package linux-backports-modules-2.6.31-10-generic (version
2.6.31-10.12kervel2)
see also my comments in bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/378156 and
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13807

sorry for the crossposting but i believe that all these bugreports are
related.

greetings,
frank

[Bug 334052] Re: Network Manager Plasmoid won't connect to WPA Enterprise AP's in Jaunty

This was using password authentication. I don't have any ways of testing
with a certificate; so might be another bug in that area.

[Bug 423767] Re: please enable rt3070sta in the imx51 kernel

2009-09-16 Thread Matt Sealey
Hi Loic,

2.6.31-100.7-imx51 with a changed config.. actually we bumped our ABI
in-house just to be safe (to the wonderfully random yet oddly apt 631)
to ensure that we do not clash with the generic Ubuntu kernel, bumped it
to 2.6.31 mainline, added a lot of our own patches, but it is mostly
2.6.31-100.7. Adding the wireless card was a matter of hitting the space
bar..

[Bug 430570] [NEW] nvi gets conversion error, truncates file

2009-09-16 Thread LukeKendall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvi

I have a large text file (that contains some non-ascii characters). The
same problem occurs on a much shorter file, of the problem lines, which
I'll attach. My Ubuntu version:

Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

If I search within my file, it says: Conversion error on line 53320
If I creep up on line 53320, I see it contains:

Dear Felicity and Patrick,
.sp
.P
~
risen to the top of the pile of
~
~
also going to be short as I am doing this at work during my lunch break!

In contrast, vim shows these lines as:

Dear Felicity and Patrick,
.sp
.P
This is a quick note because your last, very welcome sheet, hasn'92t
risen to the top of the pile of
\fILetters to Be Answered\fR yet, but it92s been so long that I am getting a
bad
conscience about it \*(EM97 it is
also going to be short as I am doing this at work during my lunch break!

If I try to write it out, it says:
+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+
Error: zzz: Invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide character.
zzz: WARNING: FILE TRUNCATED.

I fetched nvi-1.81.6 and applied nvi_1.81.6-7.diff and built it.
The problem is unchanged.

I also noticed that the make install didn't run ldconfig.
Worse, I noticed that it installs nvi as vi.

2009-09-16 Thread Oliver Grawert
rt2800usb is a completely different driver from rt3070sta ... the former
is the in-kernel driver maintained by kernel.org upstream, the latter is
from the staging branch ...

as loic mentioned, the rt3070sta definately doesnt work and only spams
dmesg atm (it also required a hack to even enable it since the config
only allows it to enable it for i386 by default atm), but we had an
explicit request to enable it for testing purposes (which is why we have
this bug)

[Bug 430583] [NEW] New GDM login screen counter-intuitive

2009-09-16 Thread Wayne McDougall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Looking at Karmic Alpha 5:

On logging on for the first time, the user only sees two buttons.
Restart or Shutdown. Many users will only look at the buttons.

Worse the login user name is already highlighted by default (only one
user after first install) - it is not at all obvious that you should
click on an already highlighted user name to bring up a password prompt.

I believe this needs some work to make it more friendly, usable and
intuitive. I'd suggest a Login button, even if all it does is act the
same as clicking on the highlighted user name. Not have the user name
highlighted, unless you also display the password box.

At the moment I know most of my family would try clicking on a button or
Other... in the hope that something would work. And I've spoken to some
other experienced Ubuntu users who admit that on first seeing this
screen they have to stop, and consider what should be done.

[Bug 430579] [NEW] When selecting part of an HTML email and replying only to that part, Evolution removes line breaks

2009-09-16 Thread Oded Arbel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution has a great feature where you can reply to a small part of an
email by selecting only the needed part and using the reply function.
This works very well for plain text emails, but for HTML emails the
selected part becomes the quoted part of a new HTML email, but all the
line breaks of the original message (new lines, br/ tags) are stripped
off so you see the original email as one long line - regardless of how
many lines or paragraphs the selected text contains.

This makes replying to long HTML messages a tedious process where I have
to debate if I rather select the text I want to reply to and then spend
time putting back the line breaks where I remember them to be, or just
reply to everything and edit away what I don't need.

2009-09-16 Thread Dirk Bins
Thanks for your reply and suggestions. I regret to have to report that,
having found an unorthodox solution already, I was unable to apply them.
Being an impatient beginner I removed the HDD from the laptop (Acer
Aspire 3630) on which the Jaunty installation failed and put it in
another laptop (HP Pavilion DV5000) where I at an earlier date succeeded
with the Jaunty installation. This time it succeeded again and when I
put back te Acer's HDD in the Acer, things worked. After starting in
recovery mode, followed bij repair of broken packeges and fsck,
everything worked perfectly.
Anyway, thanks very much for your help.

[Bug 430583] Re: New GDM login screen counter-intuitive

2009-09-16 Thread Grant Paton-Simpson
I suspect this design is much more intuitive when there are multiple
separate users. Each would have a button and the person logging in
makes a choice. But a different approach is needed when there is only
one user (a pretty common scenario). I'm not sure what the best
solution is but I agree with the original post that there is a problem.

[Bug 430598] [NEW] gvfs-fuse-daemon leaks when mounting zip files

2009-09-16 Thread circum
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs-fuse

Each time I mount a .zip archive with gvfs, 2 sockets remain opened.
This is an issue when I use scripts which regularly mount and umount
many .zip files (i.e., jars...). Note, I have to access the mounted dir

[Bug 430594] [NEW] When bug already known, set This bug affects me too to yes.

2009-09-16 Thread Janne Hyötylä
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apport

When reporting a known crash, apport will show a message box with
something like This bug is already reported. See the bug report in the
opened web page to add information

In this case, apport should set This bug affects me too to yes
automatically.

Rationale:
Before this addition, duplicate crash bug reports seemed quite important to
judge which crashes are widespread and thus important to fix. If apport now
automatically recognizes duplicates before submitting them, this information is
lost. This can be regained by setting the affects me too (although it seems
that this information is not so easily accessible when browsing or looking at
bugs, but this might change in the future).
