[Bug 460066] [NEW] The STA driver activated; no WiFi, though (LiveCD with persistence file)
Public bug reported: I use Karmic RC LiveCD; I recorded it to USB with persistence file 2 GB. I fully updated OS and installed the Broadcom STA driver. My system hung (see bug 423479), but after a reboot I don't have WiFi working. Is this somehow connected to the fact that it's still LiveCD or is this a real bug? [Bug 444495] Re: Grub 2 1.97 Beta 4 Hidden Menu No Longer Works
Yes, I've always seen the grub2 menu here, since installing the alpha, right up to date. I *do* have another OS installed; the Windows XP the machine originally came with (that I never use, but it *is* there...) Also there's a pile of menu entries for most if not all of the past kernel versions since the original install. I got the impression that the script responsible for this is in /etc/grub.d/00_header; but a quick look through there shows me that it doesn't even reference GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT. It is in 03_os_prober though, so I'm going to try the tip given above to turn that off. Presumably that means I lose the WinXP menu entry (when I do view the menu?) [Bug 449680] Re: [SHOWSTOPPER] System tries to mount encrypted partitions before they are decrypted
I think you misunderstand what I'm using. I'm using dm-crypt on the /home partition, not the auto-magic encrypted home thing. If I leave fstab setup to auto mount the /home of swap partitions it hangs during boot. The work around is to add noauto to the flags for swap and /home. Then when the system comes up I switch to the console, log in and manually run "swapon -a" and "mount /home". I reinstalled onto lvm on top of dm-crypt and it now works because there is only one dm-crypt container. I wasn't using this setup before because dm wouldn't pass barriers with multiple layers. Now it at least seems like barriers work, I don't get any warnings from JBD on ext4. -- [SHOWSTOPPER] System tries to mount encrypted partitions before they are decrypted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/449680 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 460062] [NEW] brightness autonomously toggles after increasing brightness
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager This bug is very similar to bug 456057, but there are a couple of critical differences that I think warrant a new bug: a) The user in bug 4567057 found that he couldn't change brightness without gnome-power-manager running. I can on my laptop. b) Bug 456057 could apparently be reproduced without gnome-power-manager (i.e. xubuntu/xfce), whereas I've found killing gnome-power-manager actively solves my problem. On to my bug: I have an MSI Wind U100 laptop (model MS-N011 according to the sticker on the bottom). The laptop has hot-keys to control the backlight brightness (Fn+F4/F5). If I lower the brightness this way, everything is OK. If I raise the brightness, something autonomously keeps toggling the brightness up/down one level (or some fairly small amount). I am running a standard Gnome desktop in Karmic UNR (dist-upgrade'd from Jaunty UNR). Things I have observed: 1) The toggling starts soon after the gdm login screen starts after reboot 2) The toggling starts when I increase the brightness using the keyboard 3) The toggling starts if I execute . /usr/share/acpi-support/key-constants; sudo acpi_fakekey $KEY_BRIGHTNESSUP" 4) The toggling lasts while (many seconds;maybe 10-30) and usually stops on its own. Just occasionally it doesn't ever stop on it's own. 5) The toggling stops within a few seconds if I VT-switch to a console 6) The toggling stops immediately if I "kill `pidof gnome-power-manager`" 7) The toggling doesn't start if I adjust the brightness using the keyboard whilst in a VT console 8) The toggling doesn't start if I execute the commands from (3) above in a VT console (and those commands have no effect) 9) The toggling doesn't start if I log into a "Gnome failsafe" session. 10) The toggling doesn't start if I log into an "Xterm" session. 11) I can adjust the brightness using the keyboard after having killed gnome-power-manager. 12) If I restart gnome-power-manager, the brightness immediately shoots up to full, and starts toggling between max and max-1. I have gnome-power-manager package 2.28.1-0ubuntu1. ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- brightness autonomously toggles after increasing brightness https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/460062 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 449680] Re: [SHOWSTOPPER] System tries to mount encrypted partitions before they are decrypted
This bug is a little less dramatic than is being suggested... when you log in, the home folder is successfully mounted. As you can see, it certainly looks pretty serious to many people, so this error message should be fixed. I would suggest something similar to what Fedora is doing (plymouth prompts for password earlier in the boot process) although since it is only the users home, for larger networks that could also be rather annoying (10 users all needing to enter a password? Let alone even larger networks). [Bug 460056] [NEW] After returning from fullscreen brightness goes up to maximum
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager When I run a lot of apps (like games, e.g. World Of Goo; DOSBox etc.) in fullscreen mode, when I go back to the desktop, brightness boost up to maximum (which, in my Dell Latitude E6500, is really high). Steps to reproduce: 1) run DOSBox 2) run a game (You have to mount a directory first) 3) go fullscreen (Alt+Enter) 4) turn DOSBox off (Ctrl+F9) 5) brightness is at maximum level now - if You change it just a bit, it goes down to the previous level. [Bug 460058] [NEW] Inconsistent usage of icons in gnome-panel
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel When accessing the "Application" and "Places" menu on the gnome panel, icons are shown on the left side of the menu entries, this is not the case when you access the "System" menu, icons are, however, shown within the sub menus "Preferences" and "Administration". It is however possible to turn these icons on by accessing the "Change Desktop Background" option (right click on desktop", and tick the "Show icons in menus" under the "Interface" tab. Shouldn't icons be shown under the "System" menu in gnome panel by default, for the sake of consistency within the gnome-panel? [Bug 410407] Re: flash does not recognise mouse clicks
This bug IS NOT RELATED TO Chromium, Compiz, or Mozilla Firefox. This was made perfectly clear in previous messages. The bug IS RELATED TO flashplugin-nonfree. We DO NOT need "this affects me too" posts. Unless you have something new to reports, please just subscribe to the post. There's a nifty little feature up top right next to "Nominate for release". It will let you pick "This bug affects me too". This is the correct way to say that a bug affects you instead. Alexander Sack: You can not confirm a bug you submitted as per Ubuntu bug handling rules. If you waited, this would have been invalidated because it has been confirmed to have a wider scope. I will be touching the remote bugs and suggest they invalidate the bug reports so we can can focus on what is causing the issue. I'd like to remind you guys that claws-mail had a glitch with the new GTK as well. I don't know what exactly was going on, but they did fix the issue. ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- flash does not recognise mouse clicks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410407 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 415023] Re: brightness is broken on MSI WIND U100
Guido's comment is very apt. This type of bug can create very negative perceptions for Ubuntu if it is not at least highlighted in release notes. Just a few days ago a colleague said that he was interested to test out Ubuntu on his netbook (most likely an MSI...) and I had to caution him. Note: the bug seems to appear in xfce4-power-manager also.
