it will not be fixed.

if you have an asus board you can use the 'asus_atk0110'

except that requires lm-sensors 3.1.1

see this bug for more details

[Bug 406954] Re: Sound stops playing correctly after few seconds

2009-10-26 Thread Lonnie
For me, sound plays perfectly for a while and then eventually sound
ceases.

I don't know how to reproduce this, but I have experienced it several
times. I have repeat enabled, and I'll leave my computer and come back
to see video playing without sound. That's the best I can describe this
at this point, sorry.

Re: [Bug 459990] Re: Connecting to RadioStream works only if Soundfile is opened before

2009-10-26 Thread qwertz1287
Hello Sebastien,

on my system the bug is reproducible.

Like is said in the bug report, you only have to open rhythmbox and start to
open a Internet-Radio-Stream. In this case rhythmbox won't start the stream.
Sometimes it even crashes.

When you open rhythmbox and play a song of the library before you start the
stream. The stream will work.

So, there's only the problem when you start a stream when you played nothing
before. InternetRadio is the first action of playing something.

I hope this description helps.
If you have more questions; just tell me.

Greetings
Robert

[Bug 461518] Re: hplip does not recognize printers changed from hp:// to usb:// in jaunty->karmic RC upgrade

2009-10-26 Thread kbit
Hi Aaron, thanks for your comment!

I'm not completely sure if I installed hplip manually. I'd think I did
not, but maybe I did (a few releases ago, possibly).

Do you mean I should --purge remove it and the install again? Or dpkg
--reconfigure?

What's the technical background of this matter? As far as I know all
packages are upgraded, not only automatically installed ones. So why
would I need to reinstall a package after an upgrade to make it work
again? (Please don't understand this question as sarcastic - really I
just want to understand what is going on :) )

[Bug 461701] [NEW] KDE does not set the DPI automatically to a valid value

2009-10-26 Thread Ben Kaminsky
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

On Toshiba Satellite A100-786, when running Kubuntu fonts are extremely
huge. After manually setting the DPI to 96, it is fine.

Here's the full story:
1. I tried to run Kubuntu on my laptop, but the fonts were too huge which made
me unable to do anything (it happened both in the live CD and in a
pre-installed hard disk from another computer).
2. I changed from KDM to GDM which solved part of the problem - the panel fonts
were OK but not the application fonts.
3. I opened an xterm session and tried to run only kwin - the font of the
window title was huge again.
4. I killed kwin and tried to open only plasma-desktop without a windows
manager - the fonts were still huge.
5. I opened system-settings from gnome session. In appearance>fonts I changed
"force fonts dpi" to 96.
When I then started a KDE session it was fine.

One more problem that might be related:
All this time the panel was not maximized as default and was only part of the
width of the screen. I could maximize it though.

You can see the screenshots from each stage here:
http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=3107128.0

I'm using Kubuntu 9.10 beta.

[Bug 342671] Re: Doesn't support installations which require a removal

2009-10-26 Thread Sebastian Heinlein
Previously it was not possible to install even updates which would
require additional packages. So the linux-generic package could not pull
in new kernel images. But this is fixed in Karmic.

If you are a volunteer and have got a demanding daily work an half year
isn't much time.

For the 0.5 series we have got the possibilty to preview complex
changes,but not to handle complex priviliges: If an user is only allowed
to install,but not to remove packages he/she is allowed to install
packages which remove other packages. This security issue won't be fixed
before 0.6

It would appear filter_shrink_X_MMX in ./src/fast_qimage.cpp was
compiled with the wrong instruction set options (generate code with SSE
instructions) or there is a compiler bug (it thinks pshufw is a MMX
instruction) or the source code has some poorly chosen assembler code.

[Bug 461471] Re: Nvidia X Display become 640x480, (default 1280x1024) after main power loss and restart back.

2009-10-26 Thread Hafiz, Muhammad
Updates:

This problem come back again when I start back my PC just now. And I had
to do back those crazy steps:

1) Press 'ESC' at the GRUB bootloader
2) Choose the current image but in 'Recovery Mode'
3) Pick 'xfix'
4) Resume normal boot

And then it goes as well

[Bug 461503] Re: Out of the blue my flash plugin just stopped working. I didn't change anything to my computer, idk what's wrong. I got Flash plugin 10 2 years ago, it's been working since then. Now

2009-10-26 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Sometimes Firefox profiles can
become corrupt and/or extensions can conflict. Could you please try
this with a new profile and see if the problem still exists? You do not
need to delete your old profile to test. If this helps, you might want
to try to disable all your extensions and re-enable them one by one
until you find the problematic one.

You can start the profile manager with the following command:
firefox -ProfileManager

[Bug 271771] Re: Changing properties on multiple tracks that are read-only causes error dialog to popup multiple times

2009-10-26 Thread Jesse Michael
This bug hit me pretty badly tonight when I tried to delete around 250
files from my ipod and immediately copy another 350 files onto it when
the filesystem had been inadvertently mounted as root instead of my
user.

As far as I can tell, rhythmbox tried to pop up a "permission denied"
dialog for each and every file, which caused metacity to freak out and
spin at 100% for over five minutes.

Needless to say, the desktop was totally unresponsive for that time.
Even after metacity settled down, rhythmbox was totally unusable and the
process had to be killed.

[Bug 461689] [NEW] characters of title & artist changed to be irrecognizable because different coder

2009-10-26 Thread farta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I'm using ubuntu 9.04 i386 version, locale info as following:

~$ locale
LANG=zh_CN.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="zh_CN.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="zh_CN.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="zh_CN.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="zh_CN.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="zh_CN.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="zh_CN.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="zh_CN.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="zh_CN.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="zh_CN.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="zh_CN.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="zh_CN.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="zh_CN.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=

When using totem to play music with a Chinese title/artist name,
characters may become irrecognizable. But this doesn't always take
place. I guess a UTF-8 encoding name is ok, but a GBK encoding name will
fail.

[Bug 404626] Re: Turning wifi "off" using Fn+F2 on Eee PC with Ralink rt2860 results in kernel panic (rfkill)

2009-10-26 Thread Forest
Can someone estimate how long after the Karmic release date the kernel
rebase will take place? This is a pretty awful bug to stick netbook
users with, especially those who have been waiting six months for a
release that works with WPA encryption (bug 339891).

I think this patch might warrant a kernel freeze exception. Why
advertise a netbook distribution whose net connectivity is broken for
two major releases in a row?

[Bug 461684] [NEW] Brightness keys do not work on Dell Mini 12 in Karmic

2009-10-26 Thread michael37
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

1. Karmic RC.
2. hal   0.5.13-1ubuntu8

Problem: Brightness keys (Fn-F9 and Fn-F10) do not work on Dell Mini 12
in Karmic.

To the best of my knowledge, I traced the behavior to hal packaging in Karmic.
The following two files are missing:
/usr/lib/hal/hald-addon-dell-backlight
/usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-dell-laptop-brightness.fdi

Hal in Jaunty used to have dell brightness scripts.

Hal in Karmic does not.

2009-10-26 Thread Misha Bazanov
I'm test your rdesktop-9.10 -y, russian and english keyboard layouts
works perfect (i mean rus/eng in system and rus/eng in rdp session)
thanks. -K still broken, but it is another bug and i do not understand,
why it marked as dublicate of this.

About proper way of .deb pathing:

~$ mkdir rdesktop-deb
~$ cd rdesktop-deb
~$ apt-get source rdesktop
~$ cd rdesktop-1.6.0/debian/patches
~$ ls
~$ cat 00list
~$man dpatch

you can add you own patch or replace current
02_raw_keyboard_support.dpatch by yours.

[Bug 461678] [NEW] grub-pc Xen dom0 support

2009-10-26 Thread David Brown
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 216176 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216176

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub-pc

Okay I know I'm a crazy person for trying this stuff out but I was
curious.

I'm attempting to boot Xen 3.5 unstable with a vanilla 2.6.31.4 with the
xen-pv ops dom0 support enabled.

I started by following instructions found here:
http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenParavirtOps

Everything compiled fine but this isn't what the bug is about. For some
reason grub-pc on amd64 seems to strip out the root= commandline
argument to the kernel when loading it after xen.

 GRUB-PC CONFIG
r...@uber-gamer:~# cat /etc/grub.d/40_custom
#!/bin/sh
exec tail -n +3 $0
# This file provides an easy way to add custom menu entries. Simply type the
# menu entries you want to add after this comment. Be careful not to change
# the 'exec tail' line above.

menuentry "Xen 3.5 / Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.31.4-1-xen" {
recordfail=1
if [ -n ${have_grubenv} ]; then save_env recordfail; fi
set quiet=1
insmod ext2
set root=(hd0,1)
search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 41102bda-f368-45b9-8066-fa971325b228
multiboot /xen-3.5-unstable.gz
module /vmlinuz-2.6.31.4-1-xen root=/dev/mapper/vg0-root ro quiet splash
module /initrd.img-2.6.31.4-1-xen
}
r...@uber-gamer:~#
===

After booting it eventually drops to the initramfs busybox shell and I
attempt to cat /proc/cmdline and it shows only "ro quiet splash" somehow
the root= got stripped out. I'm guessing grub-pc did this, since I'm
able to use the exact same kernel and initrd to boot without Xen (since
that works now too) and it didn't happen.

Some of the google searches on "grub2 xen" mention not having the
multiboot option completed yet. However, the dates were all the way back
in February.

Here's more stuff just in case you want it:

# lsb_release -rd

This bug isn't a big deal but I thought I'd mention it since you guys
are moving to grub-pc on amd64 systems.

[Bug 461681] [NEW] incorrect warning of no /boot on dove

2009-10-26 Thread Paul Larson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Ubiquity version 2.0.4 on Dove
Uboot has some special requirements - it needs /boot to be on ext2 or vfat in
order to read the kernel/initrd from it. Guided partitioning creates a small
/boot on ext2 and allocates the rest to / (ext4) and swap. However, another
valid disk configuration would be to have a sufficiently sized root fs using
either ext2 or vfat.

Using guided partitioning, I attempted to create / as a 20G ext2fs, and
no separate /boot.  I received a warning saying that I needed a /boot
for uboot to work properly, but it should have accepted this
configuration as valid. This is lower priority since it also lets the
user continue anyway.

[Bug 302693] Re: apt-cacher-ng hangs and corrupts packages (intrepid)

2009-10-26 Thread Poppafuze
Could you Ubuntu folks please stop attacking upstream with a threat to
pull a package? That is just assy behavior.

Upstream pointed out a flaw in the selection/release/update workflow
that is used to prevent a fix from becoming manifest. It was good
advice from upstream, for free, based on their intimate familiarity with
the code, and they don't deserve to be treated that way. They don't
have to do anything for Ubuntu, especially for some guilt-tripping
threat about ruining some perceived fame by being included in a distro.

1. Asking upstream to go into the past and bake out a special patch
just for Ubuntu by some hint about "finding a patch" is just rude. This
is an Ubuntu maintainer's job if a newer version is known to work. And
BTW, that makes Ubuntu a test pilot for some wierdo patch that wasn't
necessary in the first place.

2. Citing Ubuntu's tight release process for witholding a fix, and then
noting that the package is in universe (which is "not supported by
Ubuntu") is contradictory.

3. "I don't think" is not an answer about admittability of a patch.
"The patch was rejected by the people who decide" has actual backbone.

4. And since when does the size of the patch matter if a problem is
fixed? Really, some projects will go through a refactor, and there is
simply no way to get a small patch for situations like that. Ubuntu
does not get to choose when they get this free windfall from upstream.

5. And upstream called Ubuntu out for grabbing some bizarro version and
locking it into a stable release, when it's not. Ubuntu is famous for
this.

This thread is making Ubuntu maintainers sound like a bunch of sysadmins
instead of software developers. And the description of the release
cycles implies that using a non-LTS version implies greater stability
for all those packages that are not in main.

And BTW, I have the problem, too, over a year since 250974 was opened.
I have the 0.1.9-1 version, because it's not in main, universe,
multiverse, updates, or backports.

[Bug 461672] Re: [karmic] "initiate window resize" mouse binding only resizes 1x1 pixel maximum; resizes on mouse-up instead of while dragging.

  2. Set a mouse binding for "Initiate Window Resize" (I used alt-button2
aka: alt-middle)
  3. Be aware that "alt-button3" will pop up a window menu, just about no
matter what that's set to.
  4. Try to resize a window. Usage: imagine a 3x3 grid in your current
window... Drag any of the 3x3 grid outer boxes to resize the window. So,
alt-button2 drag near a corner basically. Notice the window resize by 1px.

[Bug 322909] Re: future gnome-volume-control has many use case regressions with move to Pulse Audio

2009-10-26 Thread Psy[H[]
This is not a bug in hardware. This is rather a weird feature: In some
soundcards PCM chanel gain range is not -X~0, but rather -X~+Y. A kind of
digital boost.
On my Realtek NVidia CK804 range of PCM chanel is -34.5~12.0. So it must not be
set on maximum in normal circumstances, but rather is to be set to 0 (74%).
I wonder why pulseaudio should mess with PCM chanel when changing master volume.
...but i do not really care, because I do not use pulseaudio, and another nasty
bug is relevant to me:

[Bug 459143] Re: FTBFS with GCC 4.4 and eglibc 2.10

2009-10-26 Thread fabrice_sp
Hi,

I was looking for a real good solution to avoid a cast in view.cpp, and
got distracted. I'll have another look now.

Sorry,
Fabrice

[Bug 461672] Re: [karmic] "initiate window resize" mouse binding only resizes 1x1 pixel maximum; resizes on mouse-up instead of while dragging.

2009-10-26 Thread Arfyness
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: compizconfig-settings-manager

  n...@whatevah:~$ lsb_release -d
  Description:Ubuntu 9.10

  n...@whatevah:~$ ccsm -v
  CCSM 0.8.2

  STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
  1. CCSM > Window Management (section) > Resize Window (button) > bindings
(tab)
  2. Set a mouse binding for "Initiate Window Resize" (I used alt-button2
aka: alt-middle)
  3. Be aware that "alt-button3" will pop up a window menu, just about no
matter what that's set to.
- 4. Try to resize a window. Usage: imagine a 3x3 grid in your current
window... Drag any of the 3x3 grid outer boxes to resize the window. So,
alt-button2 drag near a corner basically. Notice the window resize by 1px.
+ 4. Try to resize a window. Usage: imagine a 3x3 grid in your current
window... Drag any of the 3x3 grid outer boxes to resize the window. So,
alt-button2 drag near a corner basically. Notice the window resize by 1px.
  5. The resize operation happens "on-mouse-up" instead of "on-mouse-down"

- (note: i was working on typing this up, and got confused about the
- "window menu" problem, please disregard that other bug report.)
+ ADDITIONALLY: If button3 is involved with keyboard modifiers, it seems to
only deliver a window menu:
+ 1. Set mouse binding for "Initiate Window Resize" ... use Shift-Alt-Button3.
+ 2. Use that binding, and get a Window Menu. Same for
Ctrl-Shift-Alt-Button3, Ctrl-Alt-Button3, etc.
+ 3. Possibly related to another bug, cannot change mouse binding for CCSM >
General Options > Bindings > Window Menu.
